Read e-mail in Mail appears as unread on iPhone, and vice versa, with IMAP

My Mail accounts are configured using IMAP. When I read an e-mail on my iMac or PowerBook, it appears as read on my iPhone. And vice versa.
Yesterday I changed my e-mail passwords with my website host. I updated my passwords in Mail and my iPhone too. While I'm able to receive and send messages from both computers and my iPhone, now when I read an e-mail on one device, it does not appear as read on the others.
Any idea how to fix this problem?
Thanks!

I just noticed that moving an e-mail from one folder to another on one device will be reflected on another one (although the message still won't be marked as read).

Your messages may be synced with your email server, but whether you have read it or not is device-dependent.  That information is not synced.

  • Mails on iPhone shown as unread on Mac and vice versa - how to sync it?

    Hello dear supporters,
My question is concerning the Mail application both on Mac (Version 3.6) and on iPhone (iOS 4).
I have an e-mail account which I use on both devices.
As I am often on the road, I read many of my mails of this account on the iPhone but when I'm at my Mac I read them there so that, in effect, the status of the mails (read and unread) is different between both devices.
Now, when I'm plugging my iPhone to iTunes in order to sync contacts, apps and so on (I don't use other sync services at the moment), the status of the two mail programs is not getting synchronized, both applications seem to load, work and send the mails seperately.
The problem is that I always have to open all the mails on my iPhone manually which I already read on my Mac and vice versa in order to turn the "unread"-status (in both Mac and iPhone) off and to see which mails are really new. This is really annoying as I get a lot of mails and as my network is quite slow, it takes quite a while to tick all the mails off manually.
So the question is: how can the number of really unread mails (neither read on iPhone nor on Mac) be synchronized?
I hope you understand what I am talking about but if not, I while try to explain it other way (I'm not fluent in English but I will do my best).
    Thanks!!
P.S.: Another question (less annoying but would be also quite useful at some moments) is how I can synchronize the mails in the "sent"-folder as I want to see which mails I sent from my iPhone on the Macs' Mail application and vice versa.

More than likely with the situation you are describing, you have a POP3 account for your mail. If that is the case, they are designed to be used by a single mail client. They are not designed to be, and cannot be synced together, and if you open them on one client and leave them on the server and open the other client, they will still appear as unread.
The only alternative is to get an IMAP account, if your mail provider offers that, or look into some of the web based mail providers that have IMAP accounts available.
Attaching the iPhone to iTunes does not sync mail, even if you check off the box about mail sync, all that does is sync the mail account information (i.e. server names, etc.) but does not sync content.
    Hope that answers your questions.

  • I have the iPhone 4S and my daughter has the iPad 2, we share one Apple ID, is there anyway to stop her text messages from appearing on my iPhone and vice versa?

I have the iPhone 4S and my daughter has the iPad 2.  We share my Apple ID.  Is there any way to stop her text messages from appearing on my phone, and vice versa?  She doesn't need to be reading my texts!

no, there currently is no way of doing this. You can only create a second Apple ID.

  • Google Mail downloads on Mac, but not on iPHONE or vice-versa

If I check my google email on my Imac, it doesn't download on my iPhone later.
Is there a way to adjust settings on mac, phone or gmail so it will download to both devices?
    thanks.

sounds like your gmail account is set to use POP for handling downloads to your Mail clients. Go you your gmail account on the web, and under settings change it to IMAP. Then it will keep a copy of your mail on the server, whicher machine you use to look at it first. You will have to change the settings on your mail Clients too, and if you ever work offline, you may want your iMac client to download a copy of you mails do you have them handy when you are offline.

  • My Mac has stopped receiving mail. Mail is still coming through to my iPhone and my wife's iPad but is not appearing on my mac. I have mail from today on the phone but nothing newer than 18 Feb on the Mac. I have not touched any settings. Can anyone adv

My Mac has stopped receiving mail. I have a mac.com address. Mail is still coming through to my iphone and my wife's ipad but nothing is coming through to my imac.I have mail from half an hour ago on the phone but nothing newer than 18 Feb on the mac. Everythng was working fine until recently and I have not touched any settings! Can anyone help?

So I tried something else recently and it seems to have fixed the issue. My mail is now getting new mail again and refreshing after waking from sleep without having to restart mail. Give it a try and hopefully it will help you too.
First, make sure your Mailbox List is visible (Shift + Control + M). Then select all of your inboxes, mailboxes, and folders (not just the root folder for nested folders, make sure to select them all). Then under the "Mailbox" menu, select "Rebuild."
It may take a while to rebuild them all if you have a lot, but like I said it seems to have done the trick for me. I hope that proves to be more of a long-term solution.

  • Mail has stopped sending on my iMac, iPhone and iPad

I have been sending mail to my wife from my iMac, iPhone and iPad and it doesn't arrive. I can see it in my sent mail folder but it never arrives. I'm not sure when this started as I am travelling at the moment. I also can't send mail to myself. I know that some of my mail is getting through but mail that I send to myself disappears too.
I only became aware of it when I asked my wife about an email that I had sent which she never received. I am completely baffled but think that it has to be an iCloud problem as it happens on all devices.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Open contacts on your phone and check your groups.  Do your contacts belong to any non-iCloud groups such as On My iPhone, a Gmail, Yahoo or Exchange account, or anything else?  Also check Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section).  What is selected as your default account?

I have an iphone 5 and a Macbook pro. Since upgrading to Yosemite, when I send an email from my yahoo email account or another email account linked to my website, on my iphone, the emails don't show in the sent folder in mail on my macbook pro and vice versa.
I have deleted the accounts and re-created them on both my iphone and macbook pro but the samething keeps happening.
When last I was at the istore, they were unable to sort it out and said I needed to book it in.
Any suggestions that will prevent me from booking my macbook pro in are welcome.

    Hi,
Are you saying you are trying to synch iMessages across two iPhones ?
Or do you mean you are trying to get iMessage that were synced to one iPhone to show on another ?
Whilst the first is possible - from the date you add the second iPhone the second  is not possible.

  • Hey I just got a Mac book pro and have an I-phone how do you sync the mail on the computer with the mail in the phone?? I ask because once I delete the messages on the computer try aren't deleting on the phone and vice versa so I wind up reading 2x

    Any help?

You may already have one.  E-mail servers provide support for POP or IMAP, and sometimes both.  How you access the account depends on how you set it up on your device.  You'll need to check with your e-mail provider and see if they support accessing your account via IMAP.  If they do, you'll need to re-create the account on both the Mac and the iPhone to use the IMAP settings instead of the POP settings.  (Note that when you delete a POP account, all e-mail in the In box will be deleted.  Move any e-mail you don't want to lose into an "On My Mac" mailbox on the Mac beforehand.)
Also, if you have set the iPhone to sync e-mail messages in iTunes, turn that off.  You won't need that with IMAP.

  • My @me account has vanished off my iPad and iPhone and been replaced with @icloud. How do I get my @me mail back or how do I view it?

Can anyone give me some advice. My @me.com email account has vanished and been replaced with @icloud.com and I am at a loss how to view my email or put the account back onto my iPad/iPhone. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can manage your email accounts in
    Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars
However, you should still get all of your emails, contacts and calendars on your @icloud.com email account just as you do on your @me.com account.
But if not, you can add and remove accounts listed above.

  • Gmail: deleting mail??  (having to delete on iphone and the computer)

So my gmail works pretty seamlessly on my iphone. The only issue i have is that when i log on to my gmail account online from my computer any mail that i have deleted from the iphone is still there? Is there anyway to not have to delete twice??

    And0083,
If you are accessing GMail with the presets on the iPhone it will be using POP3 since that was the only thing available form GMail when the iPhone was released.
POP3 does not update the status of the message back to the server. IMAP does, and GMail can be configured as IMAP now. The instructions to do so are in Google's knowledge base at this link:
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77702&topic=12814
With IMAP the status of a message such as read, deleted, etc are updated back to the server.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Safari 5.1.1 Reading list is not syncing to my iPad and vice versa.

Running Lion 10.7.2, iOS5 on iPad, Safari 5.1.1, iCloud all setup propertly, everything is working except Reading list, it will not sync to the iPad or vice versa?
Any ideas? Are Apple servers just being overloaded?

Okay, it appears to be working now...
I went through the tips described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4001?viewlocale=en_US
What seems to have helped is "Turn iCloud Bookmarks off and back on"
I did that before, but without step 4: "Close System Preferences and wait about a minute."
Did that now, and it synchronized with the iOS devices.
