Read email getting remarked unread

I have a user that has her email getting remarked unread after reading the email. I went in a set the Reading Pane to mark emails as read after being selected for 2 seconds. After looking in help that was all I found. Couldn't find anything relevant in

I'm having the same problem for some users. Seems to be a synchronisation issue.
"I suspect that you read the mail, it is marked as read but then some time later the mailinformation is transfered again from the mailserver to the client. So the client shows the mails as unread because the information that the mail was read wasn´t
transfered to the Server."
This would make some sense, but how do you fix it?
I'm on Office 365, Exchange, using Outlook 2010 in cached exchange mode, and the problem is only happening in public folder favourites. (Outlook is set to download public folder favourites)

As Munas said, if the email account isn't using IMAP it won't work.
Here in the States, Comcast is the main culprit for this happening.
If you are with them, there is not much you can do. At least nothing that I can think of off the top of my head.

Imap email messages keep getting remarked unread after reading them?

I have a specific email address, which is accessed through Imap services. Whenever I read them, or mark them read, a few minutes or hours later, I will see that they have been marked unread again. The messages that seem to get automatically remarked unread all seem to be messages that had arrived during that day only.
Any idea how to fix this?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (step 1 should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
1) Register HRT

Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive
2) Reboot
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your configurations for the affected email accounts. Otherwise, you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.

IOS 8 causing older read email to become unread

Ever since "upgrading" to IOS 8 I have noticed a few issues. Some more troublesome than others.
The first is texting, there are either delays with receiving texts from another iPhone user on the same
carrier (Verizon) or mine refuse to be sent. This seems prevalent while on wi-fi yet the wi-fi connection
seems stable as I can search with Safari.
The second is the native email app, since installing IOS 8 I am seeing older email, as in from the beginning
of 2014 being duplicated and the duplicates are being tagged as unread. This first happened and it showed
500 emails in my hotmail account. I've experienced something with previous versions of the IOS when a new
email account was added that all mail, read or otherwise was treated as new so I mistook this (the 500 emails)
as that and just applied a read status to all of them. When it continued to happen with 8 or 17 or 22 emails
suddenly showing as new but nothing was at the top, since it sorts by date, I scrolled through and found
all of them were duplicates of months old emails.
If I delete them or tag them as read, it just does the same thing with other messages and now it is doing it
with all of my email accounts. Very annoying. I can no longer reply on the little digit near the mail icon to
truly be representative of whether I have email or not.

I have this issue as well, and it is very annoying as it clutters the screen a lot... I also have the email refresh issue, it seems the Push is not working entirely while in lock mode (phone in standby): the new emails arrive on the lock screen but the Mail app is not updated (nor the count badges). Can someone please confirm if this is an issue and will be fixed or if it's the new behaviour for iOS 8 ?

Using an iMac 2011 with Mavericks 10.9.4. Been having issues with the Mail client leaving mail that has been read in the 'unread' smart box. The account is an IMAP, and I have done the empty the whole thing and start over routine, and that works. However I don't want to keep having to do this over and over, since some of my boxes are large.
Instead of a fix, is there a solution to this problem? Or is there something that I need to do on the other end of the IMAP, since the email is on a domain I own, not gmail or yahoo.

Outlook 2013 - Read emails keep switching back to Unread

I have this weird problem with 2013 Outlook client and Exchange 2010 where on random some of read emails will switch back to unread state. Its very annoying specially when you have executives sending you emails and you can't tell if this is a new one or
one that you read and took action on.
Company's desktop support folks say that there is nothing wrong with my exchange account. I told them it has to be my account/maillbox or some setting on exchange as this is happening on two different machines. One is a windows 7 pro laptop, the other one
is windows 7 pro desktop. both 64bit version of windows but 32bit version of outlook/msoffice 2013.
I only installed outlook on the desktop to see if my outlook on laptop was the culprit. but since both clients are behaving the same way.. it has to be something on the exchange side.

The issue could occur if the sync between the Outlook client and OWA is not completed or the Outlook data file in the Outlook client is corrupted, every time when syncing to OWA, it will change the status back to “Unread”. To narrow down the issue, please
try the steps below:
Disconnect all the clients connected to the account except OWA.
Make the message as read in OWA, then check if the status will be changed back.
If not, open Outlook, then check if the status will be synced to Outlook.
If the status changes to unread again in OWA, it could be related to Outlook.
In addition, you can also try to re-create outlook profile and check if any helps.

So scrolling through other forums this issue was posed in september, and apple was apparently fixing it. I haven't had a problem with my email switching read emails to unread and sending 1600 "unread" messages to my phone until today. I updated to IOS7 when it came out which was weeks ago, and haven't had an available update. I have tried all posted "solutions" and nothing works. Any other suggestions? or time when this bug will be fixed?

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

Unread Emails in Outlook 2010 Clients shows both UNREAD AND READ emails when connected to Exchange 2013 Server SP1

We recently upgraded to Exchange 2013 SP1 with a client user-base of Office 2010 Professional Plus / Outlook 2010 SP3.
All Unread Email favorites folders show both Unread and Read emails, just like the inbox. Removal of the folder and recreating yields the same results, as does creating a custom folder. However, in Outlook 2013 there is no problem.
Is there a patch or hot fix for this issue? Or does anyone know how to fix this issue so that the UNREAD EMAILS SHOW UP IN THE UNREAD FOLDER AND NOT INCLUDE THE READ EMAILS?

Go down to Search Folders
- Right click on Search Folders and create New Search Folder leave default "Unread Mail1" and click OK
- Right click on the new “Unread Mail1” folder and choose “Customize this search folder”
- Click on Browse
- Select the checkbox for “Search subfolders”
- Press OK and OK again.
- Right click on old "Unread Mail" Folder and delete.

Opened emails marked as unread when I have read them?

I have an ipad mini. Why are all of my emails marked as unread when I have read them all. This has only happened in the last two days!

On my iPad with OS7 I had a red dot showing 1 unread email which would not go away. I cleared it using this procedure: Open Mail - Inbox - Edit - Mark All - Mark as unread. Then straight back to: Edit - Mark All - Mark as Read. Works for me; see how it goes. Best of luck!

this is a follow up from the profane post earlier....
i have done this twice in two other posts..
here is my problem.. i started off trying to update itunes, it failed twice and said i needed to install manually via tools.
the only place to get to tools is the pop up box that appears when you click check for updates.. if there is an available update then the pop up shows up with the quick time and itunes files to download. so i finally figured that out. i clicked on tools and manual update, four files were saved to a file. Apple mobile device support, another one similar, itunes, and another one i cant remember. I only downloaded the itunes file seeing as though thats all i needed to accomplish in the first place.
so then i restarted my computer bc you need to reboot and then reopen itunes for update to take effect. once i have itunes back open i plugged in my new 5s which i am trying to sync to my computer to get all my stuff back bc i lost my previous phone over the weekend.. once i plugged the phone in an error stating i needed to unistall the apple mobile device support and itunes and then reinstall. well i dont know where those files were originally stored on my computer AND since my itunes was updated, just not the other 3 associated files, when i click check for updates it says its up to date and then pop up containing the quick time and itunes does not pop up thus i cant get back to the tools tab to manually save the 4 files again.
so i was just going to uninstall itunes all together and then i thought well what happens if it erases all my photos apps songs etc... which would defeat the whole purpose in the first place of me trying to sync my new phone to get all my stuff back.
so i literally have no idea what to do at this point.. if you have read this you are probably just as confused as me...

Generally I check my email on the go on my iphone. When I go on my iMac and open up mail all the emails I have read pop up as unread and this is very annoying especially when I have lots of emails. This is through an email account which is @live.co.uk

If that's the case, sounds like you have POP accounts set up (or 1 device may be set up as POP). Is that correct? If so, see if they have any preference setting you can make to mark message as read when downloaded to any device, but not remove from the server per your timeframe settings. You would need to set that on both devices if possible. I don't have any POP account set up, so I cant verify the setting.

Read email turns unread again

I am experiencing strange behavior while reading email: a read email after being moved to an email folder turns unread again after a while. It happens equally on my business IMAP and .Mac server.
Does anybody else observe the same? I guess it started with the 10.4.5 update but I am not sure.

I had the same issue, called Apple Care and a nice rep helped me fix the problem. My issue was not with the .mac account but rather with an IMAP account. Out of the blue one day, the read emails started to come back as unread, but not the entire list, just the top 10 or 15 of them.
So, the fix..
Go into your home directory --> Library and move the Preferences folder to your Desktop. Yes I know this will nuke every setting that you had saved for other apps, etc. Log out of your system, log back in and you will see a a brand new Desktop look and feel. Now copy things back from the original Preferences into the newly created Preferences folder, but DON'T copy anything related to mail, once you see the list you will figure out what is Mail related and what is not.
Launch Mac OS X Mail and configure your account from scratch, let it sync and it should solve the issue, well at least for me it did.
