Read extended File Info of a jpg-file from a digital camera (recorded date etc.)

Viewing stored digital pictures in the Windows Explorer or with Google Picasa you can get additional Informations from the picture file:
recorded date
camera name / type etc.
How can I acces the informations with Labview

Hi Eldracher,
i´m not sure if there is a function in labview, but you can load your image as binary and search for your information. See this link for more information about the JFIF (jpg file interchange format) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG_File_Interchange_Format.
Hope it helps

  • This should be easy ;O) How do I read the exif info in a JPG file?

    Hey all...
I have been googling this for awhile now with not much luck.
!st... Hi... I am a Flex AS3 newbie....  but... not a programming newbie...
My learning project is to create my photoart gallery as a Before and After gallery. Part one is a Flex/Air app to gather the images, scale them to consistant display and thumbnail sizes and build and edit XML data files for the images and galleies. I have actually gotten most of that done..
I am currently working on editing the XML files for the image information (photographer info, copywrite info, descriptions, gallery...etc.) and pulling in as much information that I can find in the image file itself. That being EXIF data.
I have found a couple of examples but for the XResolution and Yresolution I just keep getting 72dpi... now the Jpg files that I am using from my camera.. when I look at the properties with Windows XP... it say 300dpi... when I load the image in Photoshop and look at image size it says 300dpi.. in Photoshop if I look at file information the EXIF says 300dpi....
How can I access that data with Flex/AS3????? After all this is "Adobe" Flex Builder...
This just seems like it should have been solved ages ago... Please.. point to the right path  ;O)
I have searched this forum and have found one or two EXIF references, but no answers.
Thanks for any guidance on the subject.

Thanks very much for your quick response.
One last point and we should drop this in favor of other more urgent issues we both ahve to deal with.
The data is coming from a comma delimited (CSV) file using a comma ',' and optional quotes (") as field separators.
The first column of 'good' data is read as an INTEGER EXTERNAL because of course it is a number. However, the 'bad' rows I want to eliminate have character text in them where I would normally find numbers and they all start with 'D','M' or 'S'.
I don't have an actual column in the data file or resulting table definition that represents that first character that I'm trying to test on. Hence my use of (1) to reporesent the 1st character of data on the line regardless of whether its numeric or character.
As I stated, the syntax works fine in SQL*Loader when I typed the WHEN clause in manually.
I guess if there was a way to define a pseudo column that could be defined using the POSITION notation and everything else using the variable length delimited notation I could test on that psuedo column. I don't want the pseudo column to appear in my resulting table so that seems to be an issue. Enough.
Since I've worked around it using external tables for this issue I'm not going to spend any more time on it today.
As usual, many thanks for your help.
Have a great day! I'll be back soon with another issue :-)>

  • How do I get PSE to read tag info on updated jpg files?

Using PSE9 on 2 PCs. Files are stored locally on each, and updates synced via Windows Mesh.
    Use case issue:
    1) Add tag to jpg on PC1 using PSE.
    2) Execute PSE "write to file" command before closing app
    3) Confirm on PC2 via Windows Explorer that tag info is updated on local file
    4) Open PSE on PC2, bur additional tag info is not recognized by PSE.
    5) Tried to re-import test files in PSE using "Get Files" function, but tag data was still not read by PSE.
    6) Manually added new tag to tag list, reloaded PSE, but new tag info still not read on file.
    7) Ran Optimize and Repair catalog functions, but problem persisits.
How do I get PSE to read tag info on updated jpg files without rebuilding the entire catalog every time I edit a file?

    Simple : you can't.
Why ? Because the tags are stored in the database of the catalog. When you 'write' metadata to files, you can see it does work. The new tags are written to the files. But the new tags are ignored by the catalog in the second computer. You'd have to delete the file entry from the catalog and reimport it, supposing the tag is already in the tag list. Otherwise the tag would appear in the 'imported tags' category.
The Organizer is not meant to be a multi-user database.
What you can do to share media and catalogs between two computers having the same Elements version is to store the media files and the catalog on an external drive you can plug to each computer when needed. Note that the drives should be recognized with the same drive letter.

  • How do I save File Info in an MP3 file using audition 3.0

    Dear Anyone,
I am worling on a project that is time sensitive. I have been helped on the markers/mp3 scenario.
Thanks to ryanclark and jay moore.
So that is done. But I have yet another issue with the MP3 file. Here it is:
I filled in all the File Info, saved the MP3 file in audition 3.0. Then I burned the CD. When I opened
the file up from the CD in Windows Media, there was no file information at all in there.
So, I went back to the drawing board and filled out the File Info and XMP file, still the same thing.
I can't seem to get any help on the help area of the Audition so here I am.
Does anyone have the answer to this? I sure would appreciate it.
    thanks.

See the other thread - the answer, such as it is, is in there now.

  • I write both JPG and DNG files in the camera.   Camera is a Leica Monochrom.   Photo, unlike iPhoto, seems to ignore DNG files and only imports JPG files.   What am I missing here?

I write both JPG and DNG files in the camera.   Camera is a Leica Monochrom.   Photo, unlike iPhoto, seems to ignore DNG files and only imports JPG files when both are present on the SD card.  JPGs are used for quick proofing on an iPad.    DNG RAW files are edited on a Mac Pro (2013).    Other than deleting the JPGs before importing images from the SD card,  is there any way to force Photo to select and import only the DNG images?

    Thanks Larry,
I did see the J stacked in the lower left of the thumbnails but couldn't figure out how to get to whatever is below it.   How do you select R?
I use an iPad to do quick proofs of my images.   A JPG is good enough for a proof ( dust on the lens,  composition, blown out image, etc. ).   The iPad is JPG friendly and can load the images quickly.    Serious editing takes place on my Mac Pro with the DNG files.   I use the same workflow with the the Leica M 240.   iPhoto has been a quick and easy importer to the Mac capturing all of the metadata in the EXIF sidecar file ( location, date, time,  camera settings, lens type).  A quick scan in iPhoto for the "keepers" let's me export those worth editing to Lightroom/Bridge/Photoshop.  I typically shoot 50 images from three locations in a normal day.  If I'm lucky I'll get 1 worth real work to add to the portfolio.

  • Does "RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded" MATTER??

Need to buy new camera to use with my G5 and iPHoto 5. I desire (1) affordability, (2) more optical zoom than what I've had in past (want to move from 4x to 6x), and (3) compatible with my G5.
I've had 2 canon powershost (my last, the 570, but a kid dropped it). Easy to use. So maybe simliar, or something nicer.
Been studying the Canon web site about their various cameras. For the above reasons I like thePowerShot SX100 IS, about $240. 6x optical zoom.
HOWEVER, in the MAC OSX compatibility section at Canon it has this quote:
    * Mac OS X 10.1 and newer come with Image Capture drivers that support most of Canon's digital cameras with USB interfaces. When a compatible camera is connected to a compatible Mac computer running OS X 10.1 and newer, the computer detects the camera and automatically launches Image Capture. This Apple program allows JPEG images in the camera to be downloaded to the Macintosh. NOTE: RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded in OS X via Image Capture. We suggest the use of File Viewer Utility or an external card reader. Also, movie files shot with PowerShot cameras cannot be downloaded in OS X via Image Capture or iPhoto. We suggest the use of ImageBrowser or an external card reader.
Additionally, Image Capture can access JPEG images directly from a CompactFlash card using an OS X-compatible card reader or using a PC Card Adapter in the PC Card slot of an Apple PowerBook.**
This line caught me confused: *RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded*
In the past, I just plugged in the Canon Camera, and iPhoto 5 opened, and I h appily downloaded the picts and off and away I was.
Will this still happen??? And if I'm not getting the "RAW" picts (whatever that is), but just the JPEGS I'm used to, am I not getting "all" the picts, or the best that my camera could be given me for eventually printing?
    Am I worrying about nothing?
Finally, any camera suggestions? Under $300 , super picts, 5-10x zoom, and friendly with my Mac
    Thanks
    JON

    Jon
You know, because you ask the question, I'll guess that it won't really matter to you...
Every camera shoots RAW - that's the total information that the sensor on the camera sees, but mid- and lower end cameras process this RAW data into an easy to use format such as jpegs.
Many (but not all) Pros demand that the camera provide all the data to the computer, so that the photographer can process the images him/her self. For most casual and family users this is not an issue. For the serious hobbyist and the Pro it might well be.
For more on Raw have a look at this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rawimageformat
Btw, later versions of iPhoto do work with Some Raw formats.
    As to cameras:
I used a Canon S2 IS for a couple of years and found it really good. There's and S3 and an S5 now too. Currently I'm using a Panasonic FZ8. I really like it.

  • TS1315 when trying to download photos  from my digital cameras I keep getting the message that pics can't be downloaded because of an unrecognizable format. It shows that they are all jpeg files. One camera is a Canon, the other a Panasonic.

when trying to download photos  from my digital cameras I keep getting the message that pics can't be downloaded because of an "unrecognizable format". It shows that they are all jpeg files. One camera is a Canon, the other a Panasonic. I have had these cameras for a few years and have never had a problem downloading.

I am having the same problem which has happened very infrequently before. Generally it's one photo and happened when my battery died.
However today I tried to download six photos.
None would download including several others for a total of 21 that would not download.
Since I had just installed a new powered hub and added three new external 4T hard drives, I got concerned that it was the hub. Then got really worried that I'd have problems with the data I have been backing up.
However following this sequence of events, I've determined it's not the hub, but still don't know what is causing the problem.
    (1) Put a fresh battery in the camera - same results
(1.5) Used a different port in the new hub - same results
    (2) Put the card in the card slot in the back of my iMac - no problems except that one image I knew about last week. The six new images imported.
    (3) Tried again using the cable - still same error
    (4) Changed cables - my husband has the same camera - still same error
    (4) Put the card in his camera with his cable - still same error
    (5) Put the card in a card reader and used the same slot in the new hub - no problems - same one wouldn't import but message that there are no new photos to import.
    (6) Moved the offending one image to the Trash while the card was in the card reader
    (7) Put the card back into my camera and used my cable. iPhoto had no error and displayed the message there are no new photos.
    Conclusion:
    Not the camera
    Not the cable
    Not the hub
Must remove bad photo from the card
However, I have not had to do that before. I went through several imports on vacation when there was one bad image and just ignored it each time.
Any idea why this is happening now?
    Thank you

  • File Info Panel to hit web service to fill out XMP data

    Hi there,
Is there any way to use the File Info panel inside Indesign (for example) to hit a web service based info entered in a few fields which will return data to fill out the rest of the xmp data?
Or would you have to write some sort of plugin to do this?
I know Metagrove already does this, but it's a standalone plugin. We were wondering if anything can integrate directly into the File Info panel.
    Thanks,
    mark

Do you have a proxy defined in your jdev? This might prevent reading from the address you specified.
If you can access the url in a browser, you can store the WSDL on your local pc and use the local file to create the webServiceDataControl.

  • Photoshop no longer recognizes NEF files / won't open jpg files because of "missing marker segment"

I am running Photoshop CS6 on a 2013 iMac with OSX version 10.9.2.
    1) As of today, Photoshop no longer recognizes NEF files. This has never happened before, and the files are coming from the same camera I've used for the past five years.
    2) I receive the following message when I attempt to open a .jpg file "Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete)."
This is also the first time this has happened, and happens with EVERY .jpg file I attempt to open.
    3) Both of these errors ONLY happen when I am opening files located on the work server. I hit COMMAND K to connect to serveral work servers -- my work space, shared collaboration folder, and an image archive that was recently moved. If I grab the file that I want and transfer it to my desktop, and open it with Photoshop from there, it works fine.
    I have run all updates.
I'm not sure if this is a Mac issue (with regard to accessing the work servers) or a Photoshop issue.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

Photoshop does "play nice" over networks, but seems to catch more OS and server bugs than other applications (mostly because we've added more error detection code over the years after dealing with many OS and server problems).

  • Aperture 2 raw files end up iDisk jpg files

When I click and drag (as directed by the help directory) my photo files from Aperture to the picture folder in iDisk, it drags the small image file and not the Raw master file. Example: The master CR2 file for an image is 11.36 MB in the Aperture metadata, after the transfer the data size of the same image file is only 306 km and is listed as a .jpg file. That's the thumbnail size used to view the image in Aperture. I want to save the Raw CR2 master files in iDisk. I checked preferences to find an answer to this problem but no luck. These are master image files that are based in Aperture and have been tweaked with in both Aperture and/or PS CS4. What am I doing wrong. Thanks for any help.

The only way to get a master out of Aperture is to export it. Right click on on or more select images in Aperture and choose export master - this will give you the original files that were imported. Realize that there will be no adjustments - it will be exactly the same as it came out of the camera.
    RB
Ps. What exactly are you trying to do with iDisk and your CR2 files, as in for what purpose?

    Hi,
The file info item in the editor should open the XMP display and the message that you are seeing could indicate a problem with your installation. Do you recall getting any message about Shared Technologies?
The info that Jon gave you is a workaround but you may have problems with your installation. You might like to read the following

  • Mystery: How can RAW file spontaneously change to jpg file?

Although I have been using iPhoto 6 for some time I just noticed for the first time something strange when I dragged a NEF file (RAW Nikon file) from iPhoto and dropped it onto my desktop. What happened was that the NEF file suddenly transformed itself into a jpg file when I dropped it onto the desktop. Weird! I could hardly believe my eyes.
Later I noticed that the same thing happened when I dragged a NEF file from iPhoto and dropped it onto a Dock icon for Photomatix, a program for generating HDR images. The file opened up in Photomatix but it opened as a jpg file rather than as a NEF file. Holy Toledo!
What in the world is going on here? I hope that one of you iPhoto experts can tell me how NEF files can magically morph themselves into jpg files. I also need some expert advice on how to deal with this phenomenon.
By the way, I have converted many NEF files in the Adobe Camera RAW plug-in of Photoshop Elements, but to the best of my knowledge they have never changed identity from NEF files to jpg files when I handed them off from iPhoto to Photoshop Elements. In fact, in iPhoto Preferences/Advanced I have checked the "Use RAW files with external editor" box.

    Bob
    No mystery whatever,
When you import a RAW file into iPhoto it automatically creates a JPEG preview of the file. That’s what you happen to be looking at in the iPhoto Window. Drag it out and you always get the current version of the file. Want to get the Original - select the pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and select the Original in the dialogue and you’ll get your NEF.
This is all covered in the Help. Now what help do you need to “deal with this phenomenon.“?

How did you save them to iPhoto? Because you change the format from NEF to JPG then you must save them to the desktop and then import the JPEG to iPhoto.
