Read from Scanner

Hi friends...
I want to build a document archiving system,
My system should read an Image from Scanner and then save it on a file server,
any one have an idea.. where I should go?
thanx in advance

Hi, I have faced a similar problem and solved it using the morena api http://www.gnome.eu/Twain/examples/studio.html
Problem is the scanner works fine with TWAIN, but with SANE, it is totally failing. There is a permanent connection refusal form the scanner ip whenever
i try to use a network scanner. I am not sure how to solve it. If anyone has solved this please revert back.
Regards,
Anthony

  • Need to read image from scanner

    Hi,
    I wnat to load image from scanner directly into forms. Then save it into table.
    Shahin

    Here we are..
    This is my "bean" for scanning over twain driver or SANE (linux)..
    I have used morena twain drivers (JNI), apache httpclient library for java (i need it for http communication between forms and database) and Itex pdf library for java.
    The bean has three options..
    1. you can select the twain device and start to scan
    2. you can view scanned images
    3. you can generate PDF from scanned images and store it to local disk or database..
    For example how the form look like:
    !http://freeweb.siol.net/peterv6i/scan1.jpg!
    On the first form you can start a new scann or just delete the temporary files in the local folder (user temporary folder).
    After you press the "scann" button the twain dialog apear
    !http://freeweb.siol.net/peterv6i/scan2.jpg!
    The dialog of twain device will startup. Here you can set everythig you can (scann area, colors, dpi ...)
    !http://freeweb.siol.net/peterv6i/scan3.jpg!
    The scanned images are transfered on local disk (temp folder). Every scanned images got timestamp value as name of the image (on the picture this are located in the select list)
    !http://freeweb.siol.net/peterv6i/scan4.jpg!
    If you click on the item the scanned image will aper on the screen
    !http://freeweb.siol.net/peterv6i/scan5.jpg!
    The last screen is for saving / generate a pdf from the array of images or image.

  • Using Scanner and FileReader to read from a file in real time

    Hi
    I would like to read continually from a text file (which is continually being appended to) and display each line as it appears in the textfile (in a text area).
    What I would like to know is do I have to continually reopen the file (using FileReader) and buffer it into a Scanner everytime I want to read the changes made to it? There must be a better way.
    Much appreciation for any help.

    Umm .. I hope you're doing that in a separate worker
    thread as otherwise you would block the EDT from
    processing events like paint (thus never showing you
    anything you append to the text area).Well that code fell under the run method of a class that is seperate to the main class, so it was called in a new thread. In desperation I've tried calling threads within threads (dangerous I know): remoteHandler's run method is called by a JButton's action listener...
    private class remoteFHandler implements Runnable {
         int lineNum;
         int  win, x, y, count, num = -999;
         remoteFHandler(){
              lineNum = 0;
         public synchronized void run() {
              while(showScreen == true){
                   readingRF = true;
                   innerHandler read = new innerHandler();
                   Thread t = new Thread(read);
                   t.start();
         //Wait 5 a seconds before checking if there is anymore text
                 try {
                         textArea.append("Waiting to reopen \n"); //DEBUG
                   t.join();
                   wait(5000);
                 } catch (InterruptedException e){
                   System.out.println("File reading interrupted");
                   return;
                }// while
              readingRF = false;
              return;
         } //run()
         private class innerHandler implements Runnable{
              innerHandler(){
              public synchronized void run(){
                   try {
                        outFile = new File("/data/wrmwind_08/testText.txt");
                        if (outFile!=null) textArea.append("File last modified: " + outFile.lastModified() + "\n"); //DEBUG
                        fs = new Scanner(new BufferedReader(new FileReader(outFile)));
                        if (fs!=null) textArea.append("File opened stream \n"); //DEBUG
                        fs.useDelimiter("\\r");
                      } catch(IOException e){
                        System.out.println("Problems opening file. IO exception: " + e.toString());
                        return;
                      if (fs!=null){
                        readAndDisplay();
                        fs.close();
                        fs = null;
                        if (fs==null) textArea.append("File closed \n"); //DEBUG
                   return;
         }//innerHandler
            private void readAndDisplay(){ //reads from a file and displays in a text field until there are no new lines  then returns
         }//readAndDisplay()
    }//remoteHandlerThe strange thing is that the when I modify the text file while the program is running, that time of last modification is detected and displayed in the text area yet I can't get to read the new line that's been added....

  • PSE 11 editor has stopped importing from scanner, no longer permits drag and drop, will not permit cropping, and other bizarre issues

    Windows 8.1, PSE 11
    I am having a number of issues including loss of import functionality from scanner, I can't drag and drop photos into the editor any more as well, or at least not after the first one. The crop function stops working after the first couple of photos.  Then some freezing.  A little added crashing.  A plethora of other bizarre issues as well.  This just stated happening a couple of days ago.
    What I have tried:
    Uninstall/Install.
    Deleted preferences both before opening Editor (crontrol-alt-delete) and after opening it.
    Kindly advise.  Thanks!

    OK! Check it, like I said in previous posts I seemed to have narrowed it down to specific mp3s not converting and playing in their native sample rate which if paired with another sample would give you the "audio midi sync" error and basically screw up your clock! It appears mp3 files converting to mp3 using iTunes would not convert to the correct sample rate if set to something other than 44 in logic and cause this. A tad peculiar Apple iTunes won't work with Apple Logic. I was able to confirm this on two mac's via my friend in Florida. He's running Tiger and tried the same experiment and Booya! Mickey Mouse! It appears this insane week long adventure has came to an end (...god willing) with a super specific unlucky shot in the dark on my part finally revealed to be an perfectly normal function of Logic (obviously one i'm not fond of..) As far as the errors / crashes / system overloads / kernal panics I think I can sort those out to the mackie onyx satellite not being a good choice and trying to add and remove firewire devices in the middle of the sample rate mayhem. Wow! all I can say is, I'm glad it's over
    Wish me a lot of luck in the future.. I'm sure i'll need it!

  • How can I change the file version for scanned PDFs to 1.4 when using the "PDF from Scanner" feature from Acrobat XI? By default it's always saved as 1.5.

    Because our IT system can only handle PDFs with versions up to 1.4, we need to "PDF from scanner" feature to store the scanned PDFs in version 1.4.
    Acrobat 9 always saved it in 1.4, but starting with Acrobat X, the PDFs are saved in 1.5.
    There must be a setting or configuration somewhere where I can change this.
    I already tried modifying the distiller's standard joboptions, but that did not work.
    Thanks for any help

    We use in our software an open-source pdf library that only supports pdf versions up to 1.4. I know it is old, but it's not that simple to exchange it.
    But I just had a look into the Actions as you suggested. This way I get it to work. It costs one additional click, so that's acceptable.
    Thanks for the support.

I am using net beans 5.0 I have placed a text file named Results.txt into the project at the root so the program can view it.
    When I use the code that you provided me with, does it matter where the file is, or will it look through everywhere on the hard drive to find a match?
    This code compiles but at run time it comes up with this error
    run-single:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: NamedFile
    Exception in thread "main"
    Java Result: 1
    BUILD SUCCESSFUL (total time: 3 seconds)
    import java.util.Scanner;
    import java.io.*;
    class NamedFileInput
      public static void main (String[] args) throws IOException
        int num, square;
        // this Scanner is used to read what the user enters
        Scanner user = new Scanner( System.in );
        String  fileName;
        System.out.print("File Name: ");
        fileName = user.nextLine().trim();
        File file = new File( fileName );     // create a File object
        // this Scanner is used to read from the file
        Scanner scan = new Scanner( file );
        while( scan.hasNextInt() )   // is there more data to process?
          num = scan.nextInt();
          square = num * num ;
          System.out.println("The square of " + num + " is " + square);
    }his is the code that i used. It is the same as the code you posted for me (on chapter 23 I/O using Scanner and PrintStream) Sorry im just really stuck on this!!

  • I have Acrobat 9.5 and when I try to create pdf from scanner, it displays an error "Adobe acrobat has stopped working". Is there any way I can use this functionality?

    I have Acrobat 9.5 and when I try to create>pdf from scanner, it displays an error "Adobe acrobat has stopped working". Is there any way I can use this functionality?

    Provide you have Acrobat 9 installed in an OS for which Acrobat 9 is compatible then you can use the functionality.
    As well, you need a scanner connected, powered up, and the software installed. Acrobat 9 "prefers" TWAIN drivers.
    Always visit the scanner vendor's site and download - install the latest greatest software.
    n.b., The Acrobat 9.x product family passed into "End of Support" mid-year 2013.
    As well the Acrobat 9.x product family is not compatible with contemporary OSs.
    Be well...

  • "Create PDF from scanner" causes Adobe 8.1 to crash

    Can anyone help us repair Acrobat 8?  Or upgrade/reinstall Acrobat 9?  We've got WinXP, running SP 3.
    When we moved our PC to our new office, the create PDF from scanner function quit working, and now makes the entire program crash.  We can still create PDFs other ways, but from scanner isn't working - the "Acrobat Scan" dialog box opens, but after about 5-10 seconds, the crash window comes up.  Repairing, updating, uninstalling, and reinstalling the software all fail.  Here are the errors for each attempt:
    Repairing: "Preparing to install" dialog pops up but immediately disappears and no further action takes place.
    Updating: It attempts to install update to 8.1.4, and the process begins, but after 5-10 seconds quits with error dialog "The installation process has encountered a problem. Please choose from the following options:" with 3 choices - run again, stop and start later, or cancel and quit.  Selecting "run update again" just causes the error dialog to come up again.  The other 2 quit the install entirely.
    Uninstalling (via add/remove programs) and reinstalling (via downloading the software from the Order ID site again) both fail independent of each other with the same error: “The installation source for this product is not available.  Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.”
    We do a lot of scanning to PDF's ... how can we fix this?  There've been no other PC problems whatsoever, otherwise ...
    My name is Scott Knowles, tech support guy for my sister's PC ... whose account this is.

    The scanner is an all-in-one printer, in perfect working order otherwise.   Good idea though - I tried scanning *outside* the Acrobat software ... that proved the scanner software *is* faulty ... I'll repair that.  Thank you !

    I am using Vista Ultimate x64.Have tried turning off UAC and also tried running as Administrator.
    No luck yet. Anyone have the same issue?

    This might be a scanner issue. Have you tried scanning using other applications?
    If not, can you try the following steps once?
    1. Download TWACKER (Twack_32.msi) from http://www.twain.org/downloads.shtm
    2. Install it.
    3. Go to <Program files>\TWAIN Working Group\Twacker 32 and invoke Twack_32.exe.
    4. Go to File menu > Select Source.
    5. Select the TWAIN driver (not the WIA driver) for HP M1212nf and Click OK.
    6. Now, invoke File > Acquire menu.
    Please update with the result.

  • Acrobat 9 Quits When Create PDF from Scanner Selected

    Hi. I wonder if anyone can advise please.
    I have recently installed Acrobat 9 on my MacBook Pro and have plenty of RAM. However, I can "Create PDF from Scanner" just the once. After that, Acrobat quits when I select Scan or quits if I cancel the scan.
    I have tried the following:
    1. Troubleshoot System Errors & Freezes
    2. New User account
    3. Recreated Preferences
    4. Booted from separate disk
    5. Repaired disk permissions
    6. Have no third party plug-ins installed
    7. Have run Repair Acrobat
    8. Changed Universal Access
    9. Defragmented disk & repaired files
    10. Safe Boot and reinstall Acrobat
    Nothing has worked except when I clean install I can scan through Acrobat once.
    I can scan from the scanner software - Lexmark 4850 - with a jpeg straight to Acrobat but want to try to solve the issue of scanning straight from the app.
    Thanks for your help people.
    Regards
    Paul

    After I discovered my problem of quitting after completing the scan of the first side of a 2-sided document and decided to go to Adobe for help, I should have known I was in real trouble after following their instructions for locating the Acrobat serial number. After bringing up the splash screen and clicking on it, instead of seeing the number the splash screen disappeared! So I had no option but to use the phone. Then their help person couldn't give me the serial number- he had to transfer me- and I chose to stay with him for help instead. He decided it was a conflict between the Acrobat & HP software and ended the help session.
    I then did some on-line research and discovered others with the same problem, and came up with the comparison test with the Windows version. Adobe's phone system didn't recognize my Case #, but the second Help person said it worked fine. At that point, I got the feeling that I was in real trouble. After another hour going over the same ground and repeated denials that their software was at fault, the Helper refused my request that they do a Windows comparison test or send me a Windows version to test myself and promised to call me back with results of their "research". That call never came.
    On the third call, again with the Case # unrecognized by the phone system, the Helper was even more unhelpful, probably after reading the record of the first two calls. He insisted on going back to the machine and over the same ground once again, and I ended the call.
    I agree that the on line approach is better, and I may have to make a double call to get the serial number (neither of the two I have, each different on the case or on the CD worked) and try that if my request for a supervisor fails. Fortunately they are so incompetent that they can't track starting over.
    I'm not a programmer, but have lots of varying experience with computers dating back to the first Atari-400. Since your Acrobat uses only the Twain driver component from your scanner software, the first place to look for a problem is in the Acrobat software, especially since the software doesn't run again after the first use without reinstalling, and the scanner continues to perform properly using it's installed software. The Windows comparison test such as Tim Whitfield was able to make, would clearly establish the Mac version of the Acrobat software to be at fault, but would still not resolve our problems. Unfortunately I hold out little hope for either you or I with Adobe, since neither their phone nor the online help has come up with a prior fix. This indicates a bug fix requirement, which for something like this looks to be a relatively long time in coming.

  • Epson all in one printer - compatible with 10.9.5? Cannot import from scanner in Preview

    Got a new Epson printer. Set up is fine; wirelessly connected.  Downloaded and updated all drivers. Still cannot import from scanner into Preview. Anyone else? Seems like this was a problem in 2013 as far as I can see from other forum discussions. Any advice?  Scanner works manually so it's the set up, compatibility or...?

    What do you mean "import from scanner to Preview?"
    Does the scanner actually scan, if so what file format (jpg, pdf, tiff, etc...) are you scanning in? Once you have successfully scanned simply open Preview and open the file. Another method is selecting the scanned file, right click and select Open With and select Preview.

  • Urgent help for processing XML stream read from a JAR file

    Hi, everyone,
         Urgently need your help!
         I am reading an XML config file from a jar file. It can print out the result well when I use the following code:
    ===============================================
    InputStream is = getClass().getResourceAsStream("conf/config.xml");
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(is));
    String line;
    while ((line = br.readLine()) != null) {
    System.out.println(line); // It works fine here, which means that the inputstream is correct
    // process the XML stream I read from above
    NodeIterator ni = processXPath("//grid/gridinfo", is);
    Below is the processXPath() function I have written:
    public static NodeIterator processXPath(String xpath, InputStream byteStream) throws Exception {
    // Set up a DOM tree to query.
    InputSource in = new InputSource(byteStream);
    DocumentBuilderFactory dfactory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    dfactory.setNamespaceAware(true);
    Document doc = dfactory.newDocumentBuilder().parse(in);
    // Use the simple XPath API to select a nodeIterator.
    System.out.println("Querying DOM using " + xpath);
    NodeIterator ni = XPathAPI.selectNodeIterator(doc, xpath);
    return ni;
    It gives me so much errors:

    org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The root element is required in a well-formed document.This often means that the parser can't find the document. You think it should be able to find the document because your test code could. However if your test code was not in the same package as your real (failing) code, your test is no good because getResourceAsStream("conf/config.xml") is looking for that file name relative to the package of the class that contains that line of code.
    If your test code wasn't in any package, put a slash before the filename and see if that works.

  • PDF's from Scanner unavailable in Acrobat 7

    I successfully downloaded and installed Free Adobe 7.1.0 Standard alongside my other registered Adobe products and all 'Make PDF' options are available except 'FRom Scanner'. My Canaon MG6150 id fully operational with my other PC apps in Windows 7. Any suggestions?

    As far as I know there is not such thing as a Free AA7. If you got it free, there would be a big question of what kind of virus might be in it. In addition, AA7 is not compatible with Win7, particularly the 64-bit version. Folks with AA8 have had trouble even getting it to work on Win7. You might be able to get it to work with some workarounds.
    As to your direct question, the scanner requires the proper twain driver to interface to the scanner. Try a graphics package and see if you can access the scanner.
