"Read only" address book??

Hi there,
really hoping someone can help, because I fear I'm starting to lose the plot. Unfortunately I'm not the most tech savvy person. I had an iPhone, and then when that broke got a Curve 8520 as a work phone. One of the times I has it plugged into my laptop, all my old iPhone contacts copied over, which was brilliant.
Last week however I dropped my phone in the loo, and long story short, I have a new one (same model). When I tried to restore my settings from where I backed up my Curve v1, my address book won't copy over as it's "read only". It shows up as light grey writing.
I have no idea what to do- I've been trying for days to copy the contacts over, but to no avail. I can't say it to IT in work because, truthfully, they'll just laugh in my face.
Please help!! I just want to have my contacts back!!
Thanks,
kate

  • Need to sync only address book with exchange 2003 - Snow Leopard

    Hey everybody!
M very new to troubleshooting MAC. M a network engineer and have an employee who recently got a new MAC with snow leopard OS.
The problem is he would like ONLY his address book to sync with our Exchange 2003 to he could pull out the contacts from LDAP.
Have spent few hours and found out about DavMail from this forum.
But is there any other way to do this which I've not come across, basically a MAC or Microsoft way or application?

icloud can be turned on or off or the whole account can be deleted. You manage that all in iOS5 , under "Settings" -> "icloud".
Wifi Sync must be turned on both in iOS and on Itunes 10.5* on the Mac' settings :
in iOS : "settings" -"general"-"itunes wlan sync"
    * In Lion and itunes 10.5 there is the option, don't know about Snow.

  • Ihone 4 and itunes 10.0.1 cannot sync only address book

Having no problem syncing calenders , mail and gallery . The only problem is the address book . I have mobile me and when I try syncing in itunes the address book just loads . Itunes also says my phones has been disconnected so it couldn't sync but my phone is connected . I went to the nearest apple store here in Japan and the genius couldn't figure out what was wrong . Has there been any newer updates for this bug ? Another question is how do I use photo profile from social networks (facebook) onto my apple address book .

Good to hear things are working better for you, however I haven't noticed any change myself, my syncs have always been relatively quick.

  • Syncing only Address Book and Google Contacts - nothing happens?

I've been trying to set up Address Book/iSync to sync my contacts between Google Contacts and Address Book. I have the Google account information configured correctly in Address Book Preferences -> Synchronize with Google Account but when I go over to iSync and hit "Sync Now" as the instructions tell me to, nothing seems to happen. That is, the sync icon spins for a couple of seconds and then stops, but no changes have been made to either set of contacts.
Have I missed a setting somewhere? I used to have a palm device configured, but I deleted it because I got an iPhone - could something be screwball because of that?

Huh. Apparently I have to have my iPhone connected, then it will sync everything including the Google contacts. Funny that it wouldn't sync without it.
So I guess the moral of the story is to make sure that everything is connected and if you have an iPod/iPhone, initialize the sync through iTunes. Bizzare.
Now to go through and the duplicates...

  • Reading Personal Address Book from Forms 6i.

I need to read entries from outlook personal address book. I am using form 6i. Form should read entries in personal address book and return values back to form.
I can open a new mail message window to access outlook address book but my requirement is to read the entries of the address book.
I am planning to use DLLs (convert dlls into pll and access the functions of address book). But I did not do it yet. If anyone has done this kind before please share.
    Please post your suggestions.

    Any suggestions ?

  • Can I re-install only address book in Lion?

When I type in a name in the search field it no longer responds. If I double click on a vcf card from an email it will not add the contact. I can still scroll through the contacts but if a contact is highlighted in the list it will not appear in the preview pane on the right. If double clicked it will open in a separate window.

Downgrade Lion/Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard
      1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer
loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the
          Utilities menu.
      2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status
of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then
the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART
info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on
the Partition tab in the DU main window.
      3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions
from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS
Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on
the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • Create a window with read only address bar (no address bar) in webdynpro

    Hello All,
The client wants to open a webdynpro window in such a way that when a user clicks on the link and the new window opens up, it does not show the address bar or the address bar is uneditable. How do i do that?
    Thanks,
    Amina

    Hi,
if your client is calling window through method CREATE_EXTERNAL_WINDOW of interface IF_WD_WINDOW_MANAGER, then you have a importing parameter HAS_LOCATION which you can set to false.
If you are calling through portal and u have application PCD then you can call it  like this
    lo_portal_manager->navigate_absolute(
        navigation_target   = lv_path
        navigation_mode     = if_wd_portal_integration=>co_show_external
        window_features     = 'toolbar=no,resizable=yes,scrollbars=yes'
        business_parameters = lv_tab_wd_param
    lo_portal_manager is portal reference
here window _features parameter says no toolbar.

  • Address Book server -- any way to make an account "read-only"?

So, they'd like to incorporate Address Book Server here to work as a "group" address book.
But they only want to give certain people read-write access to the group book and read-only address to others.
As far as I know, there's no way to do this (like you could with an iCal "delegate" for comparison.)
But I was thinking -- is there some way to just set an AB Server account read-only in general?
If so, I was thinking I could set up two AB Server accounts -- the "read-write" account for some users and then script/sync the values in that account nightly to a "read-only" account.
But I can't figure out if there's a way to marke an AB server account read-only to begin with.
    Any suggestions along these lines?
    Thanks!

I'd imagine this is a question that only Apple can answer, as it would require some "behind the scenes" tinkering with Terminal etc., if it were at all possible.
Its definitely something they should think about including in a future release, as there seem to be quite a few people here who want a shared calendar, plus therefore the ability to pick who can EDIT vs. just read the info on it.
    Cheers!
    Steve

  • SL45 - read address book entries

    Hi,
perhaps someone can show an example for beginners using siemens oem extensions with the siemens sl 45.
more precisely i would like to read out address book entries...
    thanks

As far as I know the current SL45i-version doesn't offer this functionality (only access to missed calles).
In future upgrades it should be possible, but of course no examples are available at this moment.

  • Unable to access only Read Write addresses of AB Micrologix 1400 PLC using NI DSC and NI OPC server

    Hi,
I have been using NI DSC and OPC servers (NI and Kepware) to communicate with Allen Bradley Micrologix 1400 PLC (1766-L32BXB). Recently at one  site I found that I could access Process values from the PLC correctly (Read Only tags) but could not access the Read Write Tags at all. The latter are addresses to which it should be possible to write Set (i.e., references) values from MMI or PC software. I am able to do so from the MMI not from the PC software. I get communication error message on the MMI and PC, mentioning the PLC address being accessed (e.g. N7:0).
Support from the supplier is not available. Hence can anyone let me know if ladder logic could have been written to prevent PC software based access of Read/write addresses (N7:0 to 9 in this case), while permitting access to Read only addresses? Is the problem at the PLC end or OPC server end? Is there a way to get around this?
    Thanks in advance.

The OPC Server cannot force Outputs so if th registers in question are the outputs of ladder rungs you cannot write to them via the server. The controller will accept the write from the server but will not execute the write. In some cases the server event log will post an error if it is the PLC. Do you get errors when you try to write and if so what are the posted error messages.

  • Address Book entries disappear & apps not starting at login when set.

On Friday, I created an address group for a class I'm teaching. After I finished creating the group, I left Address Book. Later, I was sending out email messages and email had lost its ability to complete the email addresses of people I correspond with, regularly. When it did this for several people, I went into Address Book and discovered that only the information for the new address group I created was in my Address Book. Furthermore, iChat, Calendar, and Mail are not starting when I login, as they are set to do. I rebooted my machine and they still didn't start. I disbled and re-enabled "start at login". That also didn't work. I disabled it, rebooted, logged in and re-enabled it, then rebooted again and that also didn't fix my problem. That these three programs are affected because all three of them read the Address Book data.
Has anyone else experience this problem and how did your fix it.

  • Address Book missing from Application Support

I need to locate the unique ID from Address Book in Application Support to use on my iPhone 3G to use iCloud, only Address Book is nowhere to be found in Application Support - anywhere.
Please can someone show me how to find it, in easy terms?

Open Finder, hold down the option key while selecting Go menu. Select Library. From that window, navigate to your AddressBook folder.
You were likely looking in the main Library, not your own Library.

  • Bind Local Address Book to Server?

A priority for our firm, and a main reason we are setting ups an SLS, is to be able to use Group Address Books to share contacts across the Groups we would like to set up. The documentation says this is possible, but as I see in other posts, this doesn't actually appear to have been implemented yet. Has anyone noticed Page 11 of the Address Book Server Administration Manual, posted at Apple's SLS documentation page:
"To use Address Book Server on a client, you need to bind the client to Address Book Server. Before binding a client computer, make sure Address Book Server is running (see “Starting or Stopping Address Book Server” on page 15).
To bind Address Book on a client to Address Book Server:
1 Open Address Book on the client computer.
The only versions of the Address Book application that support using Address Book
Server are those in Mac OS X version 10.6. Earlier versions of Address Book don’t
support binding to Address Book Server.
2 Choose Address Book > Preferences, and then click Accounts.
    3 Click the Add button.
4 In the Add Account dialog, select Mac OS X Server as the Account Type.
5 Enter the user’s name and password. Enter the URL of the Address Book Server.
    6 Click Create.
An account is now added to the account list. The Address Book application now shows a new group with the user’s name and your server designated. Any groups in the shared address book are displayed below this via a disclosure triangle."
All of this sounds great: once "bound" to the server, manual appears to be saying that the local Address Book app will show the user's address book as well as any Group the user is a part of. Perfect. Only problem is that when I go to create an Address Book account with the type "Mac OS X Server", there is no such option under the pull down account type menu.
I have all the latest versions of everything on the server as well as client computers, and this option simply isn't there. Address Book Server is running, and there are no configuration choices that would appear to "turn on" this option or otherwise make it available to the client computers. Anybody have an explanation? Has Apple just not implemented this yet? If not, why Apple would put this in their current documentation? Am I missing a configuration setting of some type?

    Hi
Unfortunately for you the admin manuals are not that clear - what a surprise. It's not really your fault but you're taking the instructions too literally. By "Address Book Server" the manual means the Server the Address Book Service is running on. This would be whichever server is the Open Directory Master.
Preceeding the part you quoted is:
+"Address Book Server is integrated with Mac OS X Server’s foundation technologies. Address Book users are authenticated from Open Directory and Kerberos."+
This certainly implies an OD Master environment.
In a multiple server environment (Master/Replica or Connected Server) it's not clear if the Service can only be used/accessed on the OD Master.
To 'bind/join' clients to an OD Master (and in essence the Address Book Server) you use Directory Utility. In 10.6 client this is accessed via the Accounts tab. In 10.5 the application exists as standalone in the Utilities folder. In 10.4 the application is in the same place but is known as Directory Access. As far as the manual says only Address Book in 10.6 seems to be supported?
For LDAP Services to work as they should DNS Services must be configured correctly and resolving on both pointers. For the best experience clients must be using the Server for their DNS (assuming the Server is the only Server on the network) or a suitable DNS Server that can resolve the Server properly.
I personally don't think there is a Group Address Book feature available. If the iCal service is anything to go by you're really talking about individual address books which have then been delegated read/write access to other users in the LDAP node. If you consider carefully what it is you want there is no reason why you can't offer a 'group-type' address book with what's available?

  • Download Address Book

My Address Book application is suddenly missing after upgrading to Tiger 10.4.3. Is it possible to download address book only or do I have to revert to the Tiger disk and do a custom install of ONLY address book? Alternatively, do I have to wait for the next Tiger upgrade 10.4.4? House of Pain.
    Thanks,
    CC

I doubt if you could install Address Book singly as a custom install directly from disk. You will need a program like Pacifist to do that which allows you to select individual packets to install. It's shareware you can try without charge so look it up - but be careful only to install AddressBook - you can do anything to your system with Pacifist, including messing things up.
One more question - do you still have all your AddressBook data? In Panther, this was in Username>Library>Application support>AddressBook
