Read-Only after signed.

Hello,
I am trying to make some forms that can be filled out, digitally signed and made read-only when the content is sent back to us. I have been through most of these forums and looked at a lot of samples and can't find how to do something in Live Cycle Designer that was easily done in Acrobat Pro. I have the forms done, but one problem. I want to make the local form read only once digitally signed, and/or the data submitted via e-mail.
In Acrobat, you simply go to the Digital Signatures - Properties - Signed Tab and select the box for Mark as read-only.
In live Cycle Designer though, it has me delving into java scripts (which I know a little bit about but not a programmer) and such but none of that is clear on the subject. So, I was looking to these forums to see if someone could help this old jar head out.
Thanks

Good Morning,
Derek S Jones, which Adobe Designer Version are you talking about?
I'm trying Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7.0, and I can't find any "Document Signature tab" on the Signature's field Object palette!
Have I to configurate any toolbar?
Thanks a lot.

  • Make all text fields read only after signing form

    Hello,
I have a live cycle form which needs to have all of the text fields set as read only after signing.
The java script has been placed in the post sign event of a digital signature field.
    for(var i=0;i<this.numFields;i++) {
    var cNm = this.getNthFieldName(i);
    if (cNm.type = "text") this.getField(cNm).readonly = true;
After signing the form the following console error is shown:
    this.getNthFieldName is not a function
Can anyone please advise how to revise the script so that when the form is signed all of the text fields become ready only?
Any assistance will be most appreciated.
    Thank you.

You don't need any JavaScript to do this.
In Designer you can setup the signature field in that way, that all fields will be locked after signing.

  • Is there a script for making a digital signature read-only after signing?

When the user signs a PDF Form, the user can clear his own signature. I want to disable the "Clear Signature" feature. I noticed I can run a Javascript in the digital signature's property. Is it possible to execute a Javascript to make just that signature Read-only?
    Thanks.

If the person who signed the document has Acrobat Pro, you could use the flattenPages() method, which lets you specify the page(s) to be flattened.
    For example:
    this.flattenPages(0)         //flattens page 1
    this.flattenPages(0, 2)     //flattens pages 1 - 3
But if they have only Reader, they can't use flattenPages().

  • Make a field required on record creation, read only after that

    Hello,
Does anyone know of a way to make a pick-list field required on record creation, but read-only after that? The other twist to this is that we need to allow this field to also be read-write for all the integration edits, since this field's value could change in the enterprise database.
    Thanks,
    Neal G.

    Hi !
I think you can add a validation rule for that. Something like :
    IIf(PRE('&lt;YOURFIELD&gt;') IS NULL, &lt;&gt; '', = PRE('&lt;YOURFIELD&gt;'))
This means that if the previous value of your field is null (it's a creation), so the value must be different than blank. Else, it must be equal to the previous value, so not modified.
I didn't tested it, but I let you get back to me if it works... or not !
You'll just have to add a message saying that this field is required on creation and readonly after...
Hope this will help, feel free to ask more !

  • Word 2010 document becomes Read-Only after saving it

    Hi,
My Word 2010 document is becoming "Read Only" after saving it, for information my doucment is on the desktop . I searched on this forum and find a couple of solutions (deactivating auto saving, etc.) but it does not work at all. Any other ideas?
    Thanks,
    Sylvain.

, I wonder why the docuemnt is becoming Read-Only when I am saving it on the Desktop...
I've read articles and blogs of people arguing each side of whether you should use the Desktop as a storage folder and I really
don't have anything substantial to add to either the pro or con side of the issue.
However, what I know about Word is that it behaves a bit different and seems to have issues when you’re actively editing document that are stored
on the Desktop.  I would speculate that the issue has something to do with the screen driver software.
When you’re editing a document, Word is actually using something like a dozen or more temporary hidden files and some of these are stored in the
same folder as the source document. If the source document’s folder is the Desktop, then there has to be interaction with the screen driver.
This interaction with the screen driver is one variable that makes the Desktop folder unique and possibly problematic and thus Word under certain conditions
    makes the file Read Only.

  • How to make fields read only after form is filled in

I am creating forms to be used within our company.  The customer srv representative (CSR) would fill in the form and send it to the customer for signature and initial.  There are a few issues I can't solve.
    1)  I need to make the rate & services fields read only after the CSR initials the form

Will the CSR have Acrobat or just Reader, and what type of computer will the CSR be using (Windows/Mac/mobile OS)? If just Reader (Wind/Mac), this is possible by setting the fields to read-only with JavaScript. The problem is this can't be considered secure, even if using a password as discussed here: Password-protect and hide one form field
With Acrobat you have the ability to flatten certain fields, which makes it a bit more difficult to change the "fields".

  • Changing a Record to Read-Only after an event.

I have a Developer application that needs to be modified. This
application includes several fields as well as a comments
field. I'd like to change all updatable fields (not to included
the comments field) to READ-ONLY after a certain event. Then
after a certain date, I'd like to make the comments field READ-
    ONLY.
    Do you have any suggestions?

    Dear Regina,
Have you tried to set_block_property in pre-record trigger to update allowed/not allowed depending on the event. And in post-record update not allowed. These triggers must be on block level. Also on item level to the item 'Comment' define pre-item trigger where take a new decision whether you want to open the entire block or not, the same way as on block level triggers. But in post-item trigger always make the entire block read-only again.

  • Firefox profile folder becomes read-only after closing browser

firefox profile folder becomes read-only after closing browser
It is a problem with firefox or is it this to to a virus?
How to fix? How to prevent?

Only a check mark in the Read-only box means that a folder or file is Read-only.<br />
Windows doesn't check all the files in a folder so instead displays a greenish block to indicate that it is not sure.<br />
You need to look at the files individually to see if any are read-only.<br />
Easiest to do that is to make the Attributes visible in "View > Details" mode: Choose Details in Windows Explorer.<br />

  • Is it possible to circumvent read-only after a pdf has been signed?

Hi, my pdf has a signature field.  In the signed event I have make all fields read-only.  Is it possible for someone to come along and make them not read-only anymore?  It seems the easiest way to make my document tamper-proof.  Thank you.

    goodprogramming wrote:
It's not the file that is set to read-only at the OS level.  The signature field has an event for signed.  Once that occurs I have the checkbox selected that says mark all fields as read-only.  I want to be sure it is really read-only and that there is no way to make it non-read-only.
save as does not change the read onlyness of the pdf.  I have tried this.
    It shouldn't matter.
Making changes to the file after the signature is added will invalidate the signature. You'll know someone has been messing around if the sig is invalidated.
Even if you have a reason to do what you want, you can't. At least not without a very expensive Digital Rights Management solution plus a server to run it.

  • Marking Fields as Read-Only After Digitally Signing Issues

I am creating a PDF form that contains several digital signatures.  I am selecting a signatures and am in the property options for that specific signature looking at the "Signed" tab.  I select, Mark as read only, than choose "Just these Fields.
When I select "pick" a new box opens that lists all the fields in my form with a check box next to each.  It appears that I can select the fields I want to mark as read only, however, when I attempt to check a box, nothing.  I can select "select all" and all the firlds become checked, but I cannot check individual fields.
Any thought on what might be going on?

    Hi Thomas,
Any chance you could share the PDF file if I gave you an e-mail address?

  • External Harddisk read only after the system hand during I copy some folders to my external drive.

I'm using macbook pro mid 2010.
I could not write my external HDD 1TB (WD) after I copying the folder from local folder to external folder via my parallel desktop.
During the copying, the system hang halfway and no choice i terminate the copy. SInce that, i could not write my HDD either from OSX or via parallel desktop.
When i check the infer, the HDD shown read only. I truing to use the disk utility to verify the disk but I could not click on the button.
Appreciate someone could advice me beside backup and reformat the HDD.
    Thank you!

I've got the same problem here with a Seagate external HD. I've been able to install Leopard on another Western Digital HD and boot from it to copy some files to a newly purchased external, but in Leopard I can't copy my 180GB music library because of several errors. It either says that the file names cannot be copied because they are too similar to another file name (accidental dupes in the library) or that the names are too long to be copied and neither make any sense. I'm trying to figure out how to move all of my music over without having to go through it file by file and without losing anything.
I was able to easily copy all other information from the hard drive; the music is the last remaining item I need before I reformat the external and use it in Snow Leopard as a TM backup drive.

  • Filesystem read only after kernel compilation

    Hello,
I builded my own kernel so I shouldn't need an initrd.  After a lot trial and error I finally have a booting kernel.  Funny thing is, that my root filesystem is read only.
When I boot from the standard arch kernel, everything is fine.
I thought it was because I have data=writeback in my fstab, but it isn't.
Does somebody have an idea?  My filesystem is ext4.
the only error message that is usefull, I think is something about /etc/sysinitrc line 301 /etc/mtab: mount read only.
    regards,
    Roel

it's odd, but i think it needs the initrd to mount the root properly. in my case, without an initrd, the root being ext4, is mounted ext3.

  • Signing: Empty list in "Field Selection" when picking fields to mark as read-only on signing

I have a PDF form with some signature fields. I am attempting to mark some of the fields in the document as read-only when the document is signed. This is what I did:
    1. Modify the "Signed" properties of the signature field.
    2. Choose "Mark as read-only" and "Just these fields" in the drop down list beside this option.
    3. Click on the "Pick" button to select the fields to be marked read-only when the user signs this field.
In the "Field Selection" dialog that comes up, nothing is shown in the list.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I need to do to add fields to this list, or should it be populated automatically allowing me to choose what I want?
I noticed this feature is only available for Acrobat 6.0 and later. The compatibility level for the document I created is 1.6 (Acrobat 7 and later). It is created in Acrobat X.
Just figuring my way around these things. Did a google search for any solutions, but couldn't find anything on this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Hi Ron,
It certainly sounds like you are on the right track. What version of Acrobat are you using, is it Pro or Standard, Mac or Win? I see where you mentioned the file was created in Acrobat X, but I'm not sure that the app that create the PDF file is the same version as the one you are using for editing.
