Read only online archive

Hello
Is it possible to make an online archive read only with Exchange 2010?
Maybe making the message store read only ?
The idea is to make some PST online... but read only.
Regards,
Stephane

then add the data to an existing mailbox, in a specific folder and restrict the access/visibility to that folder only.
However, that mailbox owner will have full access...

  • Online Archive only visible in Outlook 2010 after OWA logon

    Dear.
We implemented Exchange 2010 native archiving. We created our own retention policies, applied them to the mailboxes and archiving started successfully exactly as we want it.
We’re using Outlook 2010 clients with both: cached and non-cached mode. The strange thing is that for the online archive to be visible in outlook, the user needs to logon to OWA
first and only once. Afterwards, online archive stills visible in Outlook 2010.
Is there any other way to make the online archive visible without forcing the user to do a one-time logon to OWA?
    Thanks for the feedback.
    Regards.

  • Project Online - Read Only

    Hello,
Is there a way to create permissions for Project Online users so they only have read only rights? If so, would it be possible to change this permissions to write access at a future date?
Would a different subscription be more suited for "read only" rights?
Thank you in advance for your assistance!

    Tracy,
    There are two aspects here:
    1) The license required: I think the Project Lite license part of Project Online, will be suitable for these users. Even if it is read-only, accessing Project Data requires a license, as far as I know.
    2) The second part of the equation is the permissions set up. if you are using the Project Server Permission mode, it is fairly easy to set up read-only permissions and later change them. If you are using SharePoint permission mode, you might have to use
    a non-synchronized permission level.

  • DBFS in read-only tablespace as LOB archive solution

I am trying to come up with an architecture to solve the following requirement
    1. transactions will have LOB attachments
    2. Transactions will be live for short period of time, after which they will be 'closed'
    3. all transaction details, including LOBs must be kept for minimum of 7 years
    4. want to minimise backup requirements, so that we aren't backing up large amounts of basically static data.
    Here is my proposed solution
    1. table for the LOBs will be in the 'live' part of the database.
    2. There will be a DBFS created in the database as DBFS SecureFiles Store
    3. The tablespace holding the DBFS_SFS will be read-only.
    4. Periodically (monthly?) the DBFS_SFS will be made read-write, the LOBs from closed transactions will be moved from the 'transactional LOB table' to the DBFS_SFS and replaced with DBFS Link
    5. DBFS_SFS will be made read-only, and full database backup performed
    6. subsequent backups will skip read-only, until the next iteration
have I missed anything that may prevent this from working?
    phil

    Thanks for the reply
Firstly, the app availability is expected to be 12x5, so the plan would be the full backup would be during the weekend, but I appreciate the issue re backup timing
What I would really like is if there were some way to have the DBFS SFS in a separate database, and register it as a hierarchical store, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that. Even if I was able to write the appropriate DBFS Store Provider (a la the DBFS sample store at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/application-development/522110) , you run up against the 32K limit of dealing with LOBs in a remote database (unless I have missed something somewhere)

  • Question about only new archive logs backed up in backup

    Hi,
We are taking daily two online backup. We are running database in ARCHIVELOG mode. We configure database in PRIMARY and PHYSICAL STANDBY mode. Till now, we were taking all archive logs in backup. But it was causing problem of lot of space utilization of disk.
So based on search in this forum, I am planning to take only new archive logs generated since last backed up using following command.
    BACKUP ARCHIVELOG all not backed up 1 times format '$dir/archivelogs_%s_%t' FORCE;
I am not sure about how it impact during restore and recovery when we take only new archivelogs in backup.
We restore database and then after perform always incomplete recovery till latest SCN capture in backup using following commands.
    RESTORE DATABASE;
    RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL SCN $BACKUP_LAST_SCN;
Do you see any problem/risk of implementing this solution going ahead?
Please let me provide your thoughts/inputs for this.
    Thanks.
    Shardul

    Hi,
We are not deleting archive logs from actual location after backup. We keep latest 6 days archive logs at actual location. But here we are planning to put only new archive logs in backup image which were not backed up due to disk size problem.
For your reference below is our datbase backup RMAN commands. We are taking full database backup.
    run {
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL C1 TYPE DISK;
    delete noprompt archivelog all completed before 'sysdate-5';
    SQL 'ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT';
BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL=0 CUMULATIVE format '$dir/level0_%u' DATABASE include current controlfile
    for standby force;
    SQL 'ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT';
    BACKUP ARCHIVELOG all not backed up 1 times format '$dir/archivelogs_%s_%t' FORCE;
    BACKUP CURRENT CONTROLFILE format '$dir/control_primary' FORCE;
Then in this polich do you see any problem when we restore database as PRIMARY or PHYSICAL STANDBY on server. We are using Oracle 10.2.0.3.

  • Outlook Online Archive Requesting for Authentication

I am currently performing a migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. For the new Exchange 2013 environment I have 3 servers.  Two servers are in the main site and one in the disaster site. The first server in the main site and the one in the
disaster site have both the mailbox and client access role and a set up in a DAG. The second server at the main site is to be used to host archive mailboxes for users and has only the mailbox role installed. The 2010 setup is also similar just that all the
servers are located at the main site. I migrated a couple of users from the 2010 server to the new 2013 server. I realize that when a user on the Exchange 2013 server uses Outlook(both 2010 and 2013) and tries to expand his online archive it requests for authentication
and after entering the credentials is still unable to access it. However, the same user can access the online archive when they use OWA.

    Hi Mavis,
It keeps prompting the password again and again.
The Test E-mail AutoConfiguration looks normal. Proxy authentication is also set to NTLM like in the screenshot above. The only observation is when I try to expand the Online Archive and i look at the Connection Status I see the guid of the user's archive mailbox
with a Status of Connecting like shown below:
When I cancel the authentication prompt i get the error below:

  • Online archive e-mail missing

Hi, I have encounter problem with a users online archiving email missing from Exchange 2010 Sp1
We have received over 10 complained all their online archive mail are missing the only archived e-mail they can see is after April 2013
A particular user been with the company for over 10 years all his e-mail before April 2013 are gone
Another users report they received this error message in OWA trying to read a mail from online archive "  The item you tried to access no longer exists . The item wasn't found. You or a delegate might have moved or deleted it using another computer
    or a mobile phone. "
If this happening to 1 or 2 users I would say they have accidently deleted their mail , we have received more then 10 complain so far
I am starting to worry we might have misconfigure something in Exchange
Few months ago we have moved some users mailbox to another database to balance the load. At the same time we clean up some whitespace.
We do have a Default Archive and Retention Policy included all users mailbox with in this policies . We have a policy that move users data from their inbox to online Archive after 13 months
Can anyone help me?  I've ran out of ideas at this point.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Probably you can restore the archived archive mailbox by referring to the following thread if you have backups:

  • Time Machine once worked, now external hard drive is "read only"

I have a 2005 iMac G5, running OS X 10.5. Had some power issues, and reinstalled (and archived) my OS a couple of time.
Recently purchased Western Digital 1TB external hard drive for back up. It worked once or twice, but now shows "read only" status.
Disk Utility won't do anything, because it's read only (can't repair, erase, partition or convert).
Hard drive works on PC running Windows 7, and newer Mac with Snow Leopard, just not the one computer I need it for. Any suggestions?

    This may help:
What to do if Time Machine reports you don't have permission
This was posted in the Apple Discussions by V.K. I have only modified it slightly to be more generic.
The problem seems to be that 10.5.6 changes permissions on a file so that even the root user doesn't have write peivileges. I have no idea why they did this. The workaround suggested in [an]other post will probably work, too, but i did something less drastic. Instead of deleting the file I changed permissions on it, and it worked just fine. An added benefit is that the permission change seems to stick, so you don't have to delete the file every time you change a drive.
[Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt [enter] the following command:
    sudo chmod 644 /volumes/"TM drive name"/.xxxxxxxxxxxx
The name of the file .xxxxxxxxxxxx is based on the MAC address of your computer and will be different for every computer. Put the name of the TM drive in the above and keep the quotes.
You'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see) which is normal.
This was edited by Kappy just for cleanup.
Enable Finder to Show Invisible Files and Folders
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following command line then press RETURN.
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
To turn off the display of invisible files and folders enter or paste the following command line and press RETURN.
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
Alternatively you can use one of the numerous third-party utilities such as TinkerTool or ShowHideInvisibleFiles - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Excel 2008, read-only file access from network volume

    Hi,
    Need some assistance please.
    I recently setup a Macbook Pro 17" 2.4Ghz (10.5.2) and did a migration from a Powerbook G4. Installed Office 2008.
Excel will not open ANY files from a network volume without giving a read-only access error.
Word is ok and opens files fine.
drag the file from the network to the desktop and it opens ok. drag it back and it copys ok.
so, I created a new user and the problem persists.
I fired up a Macbook running 10.5.2 and Office 2008 and it logged onto the network fine and opened the excel docs just fine.
mmm, ok must be an OS problem.
So, I have just endured waiting for the archive and install to complete on the Macbook Pro and the problem is still there !!!!!
    Help.
Is my only fix going to be a complete erase and start again from fresh ?
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

right then, as it looks like I'm talking to myself....
I have just wiped clean the Macbook Pro.
I installed Leopard from scratch, then installed Office 2008.
Logged back onto the network share, and the read-only error came up again, ONLY in Excel.
    bugger.
Did the same thing with my Macbook and all is fine.
Copy the file to the local hard drive, opens ok.
I then copied the file to another Mac on the network.
    mmmm, opens fine.
    what's the difference....
mmmm, the machine it opens fine from is running 10.4
the machine which hosts all the data is running 10.3.9
    could this be the problem.
Just done a software update check on the 10.3 machine and there are some security updates that need doing.
Going to run that now and see what happens, otherwise I think the iMac running 10.3.9 is going to need to come up to 10.4 and fingers crossed this will solve it.

  • SQL Server 2005 replaced with SQL Server 2014 trying to connect front end Access as guest (read only ODBC)

We have replaced a SQL Server 2005 with a SQL Server 2014 (new physical server.)  Have the new server set up to use SQL Server login OR Windows user login. Had old server connecting (for a particular DB) to front end Access (2010 or 2013) as guest for
anyone logged into the Windows NT Network with a read only ODBC connection. Have the DB in the new server set to include guest as db_datareader (with only SELECT permission for the securables of each table and view being linked) but when any Windows user not
specifically listed as a SQL DB user tries to use the front end they get an error of:
    Microsoft SQL Server Login
    Connection failed:
    SQL State: '28000'
    SQL Server Error: 18456
[Microsoft][OCBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Login failed for user {domain\user}.
After closing that pop-up window a server login window appears. Of course, since the guest user is not specifically listed as a user in the DB that fails also. It seems like there should be a very simple solution to this, but I can't seem to find it. I want
to allow anyone logged in on the Windows system (locally) to be able to open the MS Access file (on their work station machine) and run their own (read only; select) queries on the SQL Server database. Any suggestions?
Thanks a billion in advance ----

Thanks for the response Olaf. I have now spent weeks researching this. I realize that using the guest account in most situations is not advised. As mentioned, I have restricted the guest account to allow the db_datareader role only, and have explicitly denied
all other roles, as well as allowing select only, and still have no access for the guest account.
The suggested fix in the second link you provided, of using Windows groups is not plausible for my situation either. We are a scientific field research institution, with a few long term users and lots of users that may have Windows accounts for a few months,
and then they are gone. It would be a nightmare for the network tech to try to keep a group account up to date, and we need to give access (read only, of course) to anyone logged into the system. Realize that the ONLY access of any kind to this database is
thru MS Access ACCDB, using a (by default) read only OCDB connection.
This type of access is used particularly because researchers need to be able to set up their own queries, and the MS Access query interface is particularly convenient for people who are not themselves SQL experts, yet are trying to get some very advanced
levels of output. Putting the database online is not practical because then we are back to the need for a comprehensive query interface, and just picking up general subsets of the data online (from a basic web page search feature) would be out of the question,
since the result set would involve hundreds of thousands if not millions of records.
So - that said - what exactly would you suggest, assuming we don't have the funds to buy a whole new system, and have spent plenty of money with Microsoft's Enterprise level MS Office so that all work stations have MS Access, and Microsoft's SQL Server,
as well as running our network on Microsoft's network software.

  • How to distribute on browser a PDF form but editing it only online?

    Hi,
    this is my issue:
I need to distribute a PDF form made with InDesing or Acrobat X Pro and collect data. But...I have  some other requirements/constraints.
    1)     The final user have to edit form only online
    2)     The final user have to edit the form in more work session (also day by day…the form is very long).
    3)     I have to collect data on a database for reporting
    Optionally…
    4)     The final user could not download the final pdf (I would have avoid that he/she print the pdf).
Could you propose a technical solution to implement all this?
    Thank in advance!
    Valerio

    Hi Bernd
I saw that Adobe have web tool also to publish and edit online the PDF... (into Acrobat X Pro - trial ed. - I see that it's possible publish on "some" server).
But - after published - accessing to the form on line I could save locally the file?... will be open with a standard Acrobat Reader to fill the form?

  • I need a step-by-step plan: my WD external hard drive is 'read only'

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me, because i'm in quite a pickle. I bought a WD 500 GB external hard drive a couple of months ago. I have a MacBook Pro version OS X 10.8.5. The problem I have now is that I haven't used my external hard drive for a couple of weeks now, until today (note: I bought this hard drive and used it for the first time on my macbook pro, never on windows before or any other laptop/pc), and all of a sudden I can only 'read' my hard drive, it suddenly seemed to have changed it settings by itself to 'you can read only' whilst I never did anything to the permission settings....
So i read a couple of questions about this online, and apparently im not the only one with this problem. but all the answers i read are way too complicated for me, with too much computer jargon. Therefore i just need a simple step-by-step answer, whatever i need to install or 'configure' in order to make this thing work again!!
Please can somebody help me??? I never used this thing for more than a month and only my macbook pro....help!! It cant be that i used this hard drive once and then all of a sudden it changes it's settings??
    Thanks,
    Daphne

If you can see the hard drive in Finder, select it, do a Get Info (command - I) and see what permissions you have in Sharing and Permissions. It should be Read/Write. If it isn't, unlock the padlock, and change it. Then look towards the top to see how the drive is formatted. It normally should be Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
If it is not that format, go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. Open Disk Utility select the drive, select the erase partition, and after making sure the correct format is set, erase the drive. At the bottom the current format is shown. This will remove anything that was on the drive.

  • Permissions sticking to read-only when folders copied to local drive

Hello! So... I have a sharepoint that is read-only (archived jobs) everything works fine, but when people copy a folder to their local drive, they are forced to enter the server admin password when they try to move it to the their trash. If they copy individual files, they can erase those, but folders are retaining the server's permissions.
Everyone is on 10.5.6, I tried making the group both POSIX and ACL and it didn't make a difference.
Is there a fix? THanks - Don

Please provide a read-out of your file stricture using *ls -ela* for the directory in question, and showing a file that, when copied, becomes read-only.
Generally speaking, when a file is copied, the copy's permissions are set like this:
    * The POSIX permissions are preserved. So if they are rw-rw-r-- (0664), then they remain that way on the copy. Note that umask behavior would put those at rw-r--r-- (0644) by default.
    * The POSIX owner is changed to the action-bearing user. The action-bearing user is the one that performs the copy, so that's typically the currently logged-in user. Where the user is defined (either locally or via remote directory does not matter.)
    * The POSIX group is changed to match the POSIX group assigned to the copy's parent folder.
    * Any explicit ACLs will be preserved on the copy, if the destination filesystem supports them. (Destination filesystem ACL support is turned on in 10.5 client by default, but not in 10.4 or 10.3 client.)
    * Any inherited ACLs as defined on the original will not be set on the copy.
    * The copy will inherit any inheritable ACLs as defined on its new parent.
Now I'll take a wild guess: Since you're having this problem with 10.4 and 10.3 clients, I'm thinking that the POSIX permissions of the original file have the POSIX owner set to read-only. This would produce a read-only copy because the POSIX permissions are preserved! There is a reason for the default umask and create masks that set POSIX owner to read and write!
Of course, if this is the case, then the copy's POSIX owner can change the permissions on it and open it with read-write access.

  • Safety issue: Another user can access some read only folders of mine

    Hi,
big, serious problem: I had created a simple account user for guest access on my 10.5.7 system. Now i logged into this account, opened the finder and browsed my supervisor's home directory. Some folders i had created in there were readable (including the websites folder). Okay, they were set to readable (read only, not read write) according to the Information Window (CMD-I).
But when i browsed them i decided to delete a file. I selected the file, hit the delete button and wooosh away it was. What the f..? I wasn't even asked for my supervisor' s password. It just had deleted the file.
Crosschecking by creating a new folder and moving it into the very same directory revealed i had write access. NOT GOOD! (scream!)
Anyone had the same shocking experience of OS X being not safe?
However, after i changed the permissions of the respective folders to "no permissions" and then changed them back to "read only", they at least were read only.
But hey - how can I tell which folders of mine are really safe? I can't check up every folder if another user on my system has "by accident" write permissions to a folder which reads "read only" in the Information Window.
    Help!

    Hi,
I've created the first folder as a "Data" Folder *inside my home directory* to archive Downloads of different kinds (Programs / Utils / all this stuff). i wanted to have these Downloads accessible for all Users so that they can get the Data out of this folder. So the path is /Users/(me)/Data.
The other folder is my "Website" folder, standard OS X.
The exact Information of the Info Window:
    (Me) read&write
    admin read&write
    everyone read only
the User account in question is not an admin account.
now I'm completely confused. are you saying that you can write to this folder from a different account which is not an admin account?? that should not be possible based on these permissions. please double-check and make sure that the other account is not listed as admin in system preferences->accounts.
also, these permissions are wrong anyway. did you change them yourself? the default permissions on a newly created folder in your home directory should look quite different. log in as your main user and make a folder at the top level of your home directory. what are the permissions there?
P.S. the unknown user you see is quite normal if you upgraded to leopard from Tiger.
My account is an admin account.
    Thanks for the reply,
