Read out loud mode for iPad?

Hey there I was wondering if you all will add to the development a read out load function for a iPad. I very much enjoy your adobe xi and it working program.
It would be very awesome for us students with dyslexia! That function for the PC has saved me and is very useful for me.
Also if there is application for that by your company I would very much love to know.
***I searched and realised that its not advailable yet. I guess i'll wait to get a ipad til that function exsists.***

Hi Tcimmiyotti,
Thanks for contacting us.
With the current version of Adobe Reader you can use basic accessibility . More can be found at http://blogs.adobe.com/readermobile/2013/02/21/feature-preview-accessibility-support/
For Read out loud we are working on this feature and you might see this as a part of our future updates, but we can't commit when it will reach to you.
Thanks

I'm trying to find a read out loud feature for Adobe that is installed on my iPad

I think the feature is called Voice Over, and I think it's now compatible with Reader:

  • Read Out Loud States Authoring for Highlights

    Hello fellow Adobe fans,
I usually Highlight my user manuals so it's easier to find things later.
Today I turned on "Read out Loud" and for each Highlighted word it says:
"Highlight Comment Christine July 31, 2012 7 hours 35 minutes and 1 sec (end link)"
The "end link" is in parentheses because I'm not positive that's what it's saying.
This is really annoying!   I've gone through the Preferences numerous times and the help files as well.  Is there a way to disable this?
Does anyone know why it's doing this and how to stop it?  Or is my excessive use of Highlights the problem; perhaps "Read Out Loud" wasn't designed for it?  Although, even if it was just a few words; it's still extremely distracting.  I could see it's use if I was collaborating with a group; but surely there must be a way to turn this off for the average user?
About the file: I saved a Microsoft web page by "printing" it to a file using my Quicken PDF Printer.  I'm using Adobe Reader v10.1.3 and Windows XP SP3.
Thanks very much for your time

Great question!!! When I travel I would like to be able to listen to some multi page documents....it would be like a book on tape.

  • Read out loud does not work on Adobe Reader XI.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Does anyone know how to repair the Read Out Loud problem with Adobe Reader XI?

    Hi thomash,
Are you running into this problem with all PDFs, or just a select few? If the PDF was created from a scan, and OCR wasn't performed (so there's no "live" text), then there wouldn't be anything to read aloud.
If the issue occurs regardless of the PDF you have open, has anything changed on your system since Read Out Loud worked for you?

    Hi,

I want to use the Read Out Load(View-> Read Out Load) feature, but none of the buttons are highlighted for any of the PDF. Irony is i have installed the same software(adobe acrobat professional 7.0) in a laptop which runs on Windows XP professional and am able to use this feature.
Would you please tell me do i have to install any other applications to use this feature(Read Out Load).

  • I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud

I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud option in Acrobat. Kindly help me to sortout this problems?

So I tried generating the same PDFs on two other computers that have Acrobat 9 Pro.  Results were reproduced.  The verdict is:
    - complex PDF files (that is, containing cross-references, tables of contents, and bookmarks) generated by Acrobat 9.x Pro are roughly 2-5x larger than the identical file generated with Acrobat 8.x Pro.
    - different PDF conversion settings make a negligable difference (less than 10% rather than 70-80%).
    - using the "Reduce File Size" or "Optimize PDF" option cuts the file size roughly in half, almost always resulting in a "image downsampling mask" warning message, which requires acknowledgement (that is a problem for batch processing or automation).
    - adding an Acrobat watermark to the file cuts the file size roughly in half.
    - just using Save As to another filename has no effect on file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 with links but no PDF bookmarks still results in the inflated file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 without any links or bookmarks results in approximately the same file size as the Acrobat 8 PDF with full links and bookmarks.
It appears that Acrobat 9's manner of adding links is what's bloating  the files, and in my case it's probably not related to images or image resolution/print quality.  It's a shame, because Acrobat 9 seems to have made some  improvements to the Review Tracker interface, and a few other bells and  whistles which I haven't really gotten around to exporing yet.  But  unless I find a way to keep my links and the PDF file sizes comparable to what I was  getting with Acrobat 8 Pro, it looks like I'm going to stay with Acrobat 8.

  • Feedback for Reader-Read Out Loud

For Adobe, I am surprised at the low level of quality of Adobe Reaader-Read Out Loud.  It cannot pronounce simple words and sounds so robotic as to make the feature painful to use.  Why read page headers instead of continuing with a paragraph?  Why read a paragraph full of references?  Why no option to skip sections of a page? I could go on, but I will just say that it is obvious that Adobe cares little for this program.  Come on Adobe, you can do way better than this.

I got the MSVCP50.dll file from a friend.  I'm not sure this was necessary, though.
However I picked up this post from another discussion:
“I thought to set my preference to a very slow speed (which I learned can't be less than 150 words a minute) and I also changed the voice to a Microsoft voice (SanSoft voices were the other choices). When I tried again, it worked. I don't know if it was the speed or the voice or both, but I never would have considered those if I hadn't been aware of the bar. It must have shown before but it was so quick and I wasn't looking for it that I must have missed it.”
I also hadn’t noticed the bar at the bottom, which is only there for a split second, and I’m not sure what significance that had.  But by changing my preferences (Edit/Preferences/ Reading) from the default, it seemed to kick the function into action.  The volume is still very low, though, even with all the volume slide controls on max.
    But progress anyway!

  • How can I get read out loud to work on MAC for adobe reader?

Having trouble getting the read out loud function to work on MAC.  It keeps says "BLANK" or "Warning Page Empty".  How can i get this resolved my the read out loud function to work properly?

    That depends.
First, be sure the pdf isn't just scanned images. Can you select individual words with the select tool? If not, you would need to use a tool to run OCR before it can be read.

  • Adobe Read Out Loud feature not working

Anyone else run into this.  We activate it, it scans the document looking for tags, then does not read it.  Any ideas?

    Hey there hdilios,
Just been trying to sort this one out myself, I noticed that you tried re-installing Adobe Reader with the same result.
Could it be that, when you installed the first time / updated and then re-installed, Adobe Reader Protected Mode was automatically re-applied by default. Read Out Loud will not function while in Protected Mode.
You must disable it to hear Read Out Loud document reader, it is quite safe to disable this additional security function, and the only way to make it work.
To disable Adobe Reader XI Protected Mode
    - Open Adobe Reader
    - Click menu item Edit
    - Select Preferences
    - Preference panel opens
    - Select Security (Enhanced) in Categories list
    - Uncheck Enable Protected Mode at Startup
    - Dialog opens Click Yes
    - Close Preferences
    - Close/Restart Adobe Reader
    - Open a document you wish to read
    - Activate Read Out Loud
    - Choose Option to read Page or Whole Document
    - or setup for Reading with the Accessability Assistant.
Hope this is the answer you are looking for, my Read Out Loud feature is functioning fine now it had me baffled for a while, thought my sound card was malfunctioning.

  • Read out loud, recognizing PDF tags?

Hello. I see that v 11.2 includes read out loud and UI navigation with accessibility mode. Thank you.
Looking at my Android phone Adobe Reader, "What's new" states that PDF tags are not recognized. When will the Adobe Readers for mobile devices recognize PDF tags? This is very important. - Bill

Is there real text within the tagged area that will not read-aloud?

  • Cannot read out loud special characters when text is french

    Hi everyone,
First of all, I hope my english is on par for your understanding. I speak french as first language and we use the French installation of our Adobe products.
Working in the IT department, our clients working in the communications department currently use Acrobat pro X on Mac 10.8 to make accessible PDFs. Before I reinstalled their iMacs with a fresh copy of 10.8, they were working on OSX 10.6, also with Acrobat Pro X. They didn't have the following issue.
Since the fresh 10.8 install, they cannot use the read out loud function properly. As you may know, with french language comes the use of special characters. Lots of them. But Acrobat will not read out loud any sentence or paragraph having special characters like " é, à, ù, è" and such.
I first contacted Adobe, a few weeks ago, through their Live chat function, about this problem. They addressed the issue by stating that they do not support Acrobat X on 10.8. I had to reinstall Acrobat using version XI in order to receive support. Fortunately, I was able to download the correct version and use it in trial mode. Unfortunatly though, I still had the same issue. It seems that I no longer have access to Live chat, so I turn to you all for help.
Also, I have a French voice pack in OSX and when I use the Voiceover function in OSX, outside of Acrobat, the system reads out loud any accents or special characters like it should. This is mainly why I associated the issue with Acrobat and not OSX.
If you need clarifications, ask away and I will get back as soon as possible.
    Thank you for your time.

Used your sentence "TTS is closed October 9th." in a Word file and output a tagged PDF via PDFMaker.
Added Alt Text for the tag that was the parent for the container holding the text string.
ROL with Acrobat 9 Pro and Acrobat X Pro spoke the entered Alt Text.
In short, could not duplicate what you've described.
Perhaps an Acrobat repair or processing any outstanding updates could resolve things.
Or a return to the structure tree may be in order. Look for what is amiss there.
    Be well...

  • Adobe Reader's Read Out Loud is glitched.

When I use the r-o-l feature to read my textbooks, the program does not read words with the letter "F" in them correctly.  At first, I believed it was just something weird with the book I was attempting to have it read, so I changed it.  But now I've bought a completely different computer, and have a new class with new text books, and it's still doing it.  For example, the word fire.  It'll read fee-are-ee.  Influence is pronounced in-flamabluence.  Flesh is 'florida-esh'.  It's highly distracting, and I don't know what to do about it.  Any suggestions?
I am using Windows 8, on a pc.
    Best,
    Dawn

I do not have Reader installed, but in Acrobat, there is a Read Out Loud menu item under the View menu.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro can't read out loud

I've always been able to use Acrobat's "Read Out Loud" feature to help me proof complex documents by having Acrobat read the PDF aloud while I read the original to check for discrepancies. Since upgrading to Acrobat 9 Pro Extended version 9.4.6 on Windows 7, I can't get the Read Out Loud feature to work. The document is fully tagged, the sound and speakers are working correctly. After activating the Read Out Loud feature (View->Read Out Loud->Activate Read Out Loud), when I select any of the options (e.g., Read This Page Only or Read to End of Document), Acrobat crashes. It doesn't matter if I'm using a PDF generated from Framemaker or one downloaded from Adobe's site.
I've read through Adobe's Help forums and can't find a solution. Has anyone had and successfully resolved this problem?:
    Carol

    Just some nattering -
Maybe a "Repair" of Acrobat 9 will resolve the issue.
May have to move into Acrobat X (first fully "made for Win 7").
    Be well...
