Read Receipts

Read Receipts - I see the string that is required to be cut and pasted into Terminal that enables the request for read receipts in Mail. My question is exactly how do you do that?

Here it is:
defaults write com.apple.mail UserHeaders '{"Disposition-Notification-To" = "[email protected]"; }'

I use Mac Mail. How do I set up an email to get a delivery or read receipt? In other words, I want to receive automated confirmation that the email was either delivered, opened, or both -- which you can do in Outlook. I was not able to find this option in the Mail menu.

Unfortunately OS X Mail does not offer this feature as far as I know. With Apple failing to offer that feature up until now I highly doubt it'll happen in the future :/

  • How can I get Messages to show the correct time for read receipts?

Messages in Mountain Lion shows the wrong time for read receipts. For example, my iPad will show a message was read at 3:37 pm but if I open Messages on my MacBook, the read receipt shows the time that I opened the Messages app as opposed to the time the message was actually read. This is not too much of an issue if my iPad is handy, but really, shouldn't Messages on my MacBook be able to show the correct time the message was read? It syncs all the other infromation with Messages on iOs.
I should mention that if Messages is running on my MacBook when the recipient reads the message, then it does show the correct time the message was read. It's if Messages was not running and I re-launch it that the read receipt time gets mixed up.

    HI,
As far as I am aware Messages marks or time stamps an iMessage at the time of receipt rather then the time you got around to reading it.
I will admit that in most cases reading and receiving as the app opens will be near enough the same time in some conversations.
Adding Time Stamps to Chat is what iChat has always done particularly with AIM based Chats.
The "Sync" in Messages is "display on all devices"  and after that each iMessages is dealth with separately on each device.
There is no syncing of deleting/dimssing an iMessages or having read it on another device.

  • Read receipts in Receiver mail

    Hi All,
If we were sending out a mail from PI, is there any option that we can configure a read receipt?
There is an option for delivery acknowledgements, but is it possible to configure read receipts at the adapter level?
Do suggest some alternatives if any.
    Regards,

  • How to filter out inbound Read receipts but prevent prevent notification to sender

    Greetings,
For Exchange 2007, we would like to prevent external users from sending Read Receipt requests to our users.  In the Outlook client, we can easily disable this.  But for EAS users, their smartphones send a reply as soon as the email is opened.  I've
applied a Hub Transport rule to strip out the "Disposition-Notification-To" from inbound emails but this causes a different message to be sent to the sender, "Delivery to these recipients or distribution lists is complete, but delivery
notification was not sent by the destination:".   As a test, I've now also unchecked "Allow Delivery Reports" for Remote domains, but will this work?  Should both settings be applied to avoid generating the response to senders as noted
    previously?
    Thanks

    Hi,
From your description, you want to prevent the external users from receiving the read receipts of internal users.
You can create the following transport rule to achieve it. (Note: Because we use the "Read" as subject key word, it will delete the messages whose subject contain "read", please pay attention to use it.)
What's more, I have a test in my lab. If I choose "Read:" as subject key word, the transport doesn't work. When I choose "Read" as subject key word, it works.
Besides, to force an immediate update of transport rule, you can stop and start the Microsoft Exchange Transport service.
    Hope it helps.
If you need further assistance, please feel free to let me know.
    Best regards,

  • Read receipt in snow leopard mail...

I am relatively new to mac and mail.  can anyone please help me with delivery receipts and read receipts like one can get from those awful windows applications?

I think, sometimes Apple should be a little less educative. Their bossy attitude "If we don't put it in, then you don't need it...“ has proven them wrong a few times. Remember "copy/paste" on the first iOS ?
Rather then adding a lot of fancy stuff like "dialogues" in Mail, it can't be that complicated to add a little box somewhere next to signature to request a read-receipt. I just upgraded to Lion and I'm amazed that this feature (because it is a feature, never mind if receivers are confirming or not) is again missing.
Its often good to know that your mail has reached destination, especially if you attach important documents to it - in which case the receiver will accept to confirm.
Just for this feature, I'm once again obliged to keep Thunderbird next to Mail.

  • Generare e-mail status by tracking Delivery and Read Receipt?Challenge

    Hi,
I got bit confused, How can I came to know that my e-mail has been successfully sent or not without opening my inbox.
Am sending 50,000 mails per day by using java mail sending program, while sending I am enabled Delivery and Read receipt and I saved message-id in database and I got that receipt back to my inbox.
Then I am reading my Inbox using another java program based on message-id concept, And also I need to parse the body of the mail to update the reason if any message failed.
Here my Inbox received more than 1 lac mails per day as receipts. Because am sending 50,000 mails, So, I got 2 receipt mails for 1 mail, totally 50,000*2=1lac mails in Inbox. My problem is, my reading Inbox java program not able read all 1lac mails at one day. It just reading 5,000 mails per day. When my next day mail sending process started, again i am getting another 1 lac receipts.
Since I am not able to read and delete the receipts completely, mail counts in my inbox getting accumulated. So, I got stuck, How can I do this?
If anybody have any other ideas please share with me.
Already I surfed on net lot, but I can`t find solution for this concept.
    Thanks in advance.

I think the big question is why can you not read and remove the mail more quickly? What limits you to reading only 5,000 messages per day?
Also, is this about Oracle Communications Messaging Exchange Server (formerly known as Sun Java Messaging Server)?
If so, please include the output from the "imsimta version" command.
If not, you probably should ask in the JavaMail forum: JavaMail

  • How to get Read receipt in gmail app on iphone 4s?

I have gmail app on my iphone 4s but i do not get read receipt option while sending mail kindly advise

You can use 3rd party services to use read receipts with Gmail. Companies like ContactMonkey (www.contactmonkey.com) and Spypig offer email tracking for Gmail and Outlook. They're both pretty easy to use.
    Happy tracking!

  • Read-receipt of mail

how do I get the read-receipt of mail

You don't. Mail doesn't support read receipts.
You can add them to every email you send by editing the default headers:
    http://email.about.com/od/macosxmailtips/qt/et_request_recp.htm
Note that is an all or nothing modification. You can pick which messages send read receipt requests.
You can always just ask in the body of the email for the recipient to please respond as their activities are very important for you to monitor.

  • Read receipt not working in Outlook 2010

Hi.  I am having some problems with read receipt. It does not work on my computer, it works fine on my co-workers computers.  It worked fine for a couple of weeks but no I neither receive read receives from others to confirm nor do mine get sent
    with my mails.
I have looked at rules and I have no rules. I really need this to work because of my work.
can someone please help me ?
    Thanks
    Baldvin

    Hi Baldvin,
Did you tick the 'Request a Read Receipt' option when composing a new message? Or did you select the option "Read receipt confirming the recipient viewd the message" under
    File tab > Options > Mail >
    Tracking section?
Can you confirm if the recipient clicked Yes button and agreed to send the receipt?
You can send test emails with a request for read receipt to yourself to check the result.

  • Never ending story: Exchange and Outlook 2010/2013 - Read receipts (reading confirmation) implementation is buggy

OK, I try it again (for the fifth time or so), maybe anywhere in the big microsoft world there is ONE support engineer that is able to recognize a bug and hand it over to the development????
In several cases the read receipt does not contain the sending time of the original message, instead it contains (quite senseless) the time when the receipt itself has been sent.
The only information in the read receipt is the subject of the original mail which may be identical in longer mailthreads to several (dozends of) mails. So in this implementation you are not able to find out to which message a read receipt really relates.
So we cannot prove at all if a single mail in a thread has been read or not. The printout of such a receipt does not have any information that can be used in a meeting or discussion.
Since this situation obviously lasts for several years I'd like to ask
how I can get a working read-receipt-functionality for professional eMail-handling???
It seems that the problem does not lie in the content of the MDN sent by the Exchange server.
If I look into a copy of such a sent MDN with Thunderbird, it tells me for example, that my mail, sent on 15th Juli 2013 14:43:47 (UTC+1) has been read  on 15th Juli 2013 14:50:08, which is correct.
But in combination with Outlook I get the same MDN displayed like follows:
Your message at... subject... sent Monday, 15. Juli 2013 14:51:30 (UTC+01:00)... has been read on Monday, 15. Juli 2013 14:51:16 (UTC+01:00) (Text translated from German to English)
So Outlook exchanges the timestamps and falsifies the content of the MDN.
This does only appear in combination with an Exchange server. If I work with a POP3 account and Outlook and send a message to an Exchange 2010 mailbox the correct timestamps are displayed within the returned MDN-message.
All involved systems are set to German (DE-de), the timezone on all systems is UTC+1
Here a small table with my tests
I've used Outlook on all Clients, 2010 and 2013.
Sender: sends initial mail and gets the Reading Confirmation
Receiver: gets the initial mail and sends the MDN
Sender     |     Receiver     |     MDN Display
    POP3        |     Exchange   |     correct
Exchange |     Exchange   |     fail (displays wrong "sent"-time)
    POP3        |     POP3         |     correct
    Exchange |     POP3         |     fail (displays wrong "sent"-time)
It is obvious this cannot be a "feature". This is different behaviour depending on the senders Account type and one of this two scenarios must be a bug.
Could you help me further on this, please?

Almost no - the MS-Support here in this website was completely overchallenged to even understand this issue. I've tried several times to address this in this forum with no success. The "supporters" here had only one target - to quickly get this
    "complicated" case off their desks.
The Office 365 support was much more competent and able to understand the problem. They escalated this to the development team (which lasted about 3 months, dozends of telephone calls and about 20 hours working time, which I had to donate to Microsoft freely)
and located the Problem in Exchange Server.
The result was that they promised to fix it in Exchange Server 2013, but there will be no Bugfix in Exchange 2010. I am waiting for the fulfilment of this promise since over 6 months.
Microsoft seems not to have any problem to leave their (professional and very expensive) Exchange software in a buggy state.
My conclusion: If Exchange 2010 runs out of maintenance I'll switch to Linux and Zarafa Server. The Zarafa guys are able to understand and fix their bugs and I do not have to donate thousands of Euros in working time only to get them understanding their
    own bugs.
PS: You need only to press F1 in Office, especially in Access in the German language variant and you get an impressing lesson how desolate Microsoft is working today. Pressing F1 in Access 97 or XP lets you know, how much better they were some years ago.
An impressive deep fall down to the ground.

  • Exchange 2013 public folders are sending read receipts for items viewed in public folders

We have Exchange 2013 with public folders.  These public folders are used for a large amount of shared contacts.  When a user goes into the public folders and double clicks on a contact to view it, Exchange dispatches a read receipt to all users
that are configured as publishing editors to notify them that a certain contact was read.  How do I disable this option?

    hi again dear.. :)
"At first, I would like to say the
read Receipt is not sent out by the device, it is sent out by the Exchange server. This is how it works and what happens:
    1.
    E-mail with request for send
    receipt is received on the Exchange server;
    2.
E-mail is synchronized with Windows Mobile based device using Exchange
    ActiveSync;
    3.
    When e-mail is
    read on Windows Mobile based device the read status is synchronized back to the Exchange server;
    4.
The Exchange server creates and sends out the
    Read Receipt when receiving the Read status update from the device;
The above is how this is implemented and there is no functionality which allows preventing this from occurring on the Mobile device.
It seems that there is an alternative method to disable RR using transport rules. However, it will at the risk of the filtering out other messages
    with the same subject.
Towards the third party mobile clients that support RR and DR, you might consider using Flexmail 4.11. It’s impossible to deactivate ActiveSync
    RRs in Exchange server 2007/2010."
    also
One way to stop read receipts being triggered through client side configuration on the mobile is to use the option "Don't Mark Read on server".
I have tested this successfully using this option in the TouchDown mail client on Android.
Not sure if the standard or other mail clients do support this option, TouchDown certainly does and it works.
The side effect obviously is, that the read status isn't synced back to Exchange anymore:"
hope now i r clear... one way or the other... you need to send a feed back or define a transport rule... but that again may create problem with the same subject :)
Regards Shah. MCITP, MCMA, MCTS No claims (try at your own risk)

  • Sending read receipts

How can I change settings to stop my mobile from sending read receipts? I’ve turned it off in outlook (as far as I know), but when using my mobile this does not seem to work. Using intellisync and an E65.
    appreciate any advice
    E65

I logged into my Office 365 Outlook Web Access/Mail and disabled read receipts too, but believe another poster here commented that iOS devices are ignoring and/or by-passing the setting.
I'll have to see what it does for the Mail app on OS X.
But from what I've read in these forums related to the issue, if the mail.app doesn't support read receipts (which I realize is not a common standard), then why does it send a read receipt when you open/view an e-mail?  That doesn't make any sense.
I've always disabled read receipts.  I don't let email rule my day.  Just because I opened an email doesn't mean I read it and should reply to it in a certain time frame.  Your sense of urgency doesn't dictate a priority on my end.
In today's world, senders expect immediate responses, just like they do with text messages.  That is ludicrous.
Thanks for letting me ramble.  Sure wish there could be a setting or hack for OS X (at the terminal level) to disable this very annoying 'feature'.

  • How to disable read receipts

I have just realized that my iPhone responds to read receipt requests by happily confirming when I've opened the message. I find that both a privacy invasion and a security issue, as well as something that contributes to spam increase. Is there a way to turn it off?

This is a more serious issue because any junk mail using randomly generated e mail addresses is automatically getting confirmation that it has chanced upon a valid address.  This single issue has stopped me ordering over 1000 iphones for my company.
