Read Windows iTunes Libraries?

I have a MacBook connected to my home wireless network. How do I see (and play songs from) the iTunes libraries on the Windows Vista & XP machines that are also on the network? My PC notebook sees them, but my MacBook does not.
Please help. Thanks.

This appears to be a McAfee issue. I have not resolved it yet. In McAfee, Firewall/Program Permissions I have granted FULL ACCESS to any/all iTunes and Apple applications but the library is still not discoverable on other computers.
If I disable McAfee altogether, then my library is discoverable. Yeeks. I do not want to disable McAfee.
Any help here would be MOST appreciated. Thanks!

Problem solved i found the solution from another dicussions. I hope this helps because it helped me:
I'm not sure if this is new with iTunes 9, but the words you're seeing at the top of your library are the name of the folder where your "iTunes Music.itl" file is located. If it reads "Previous iTunes Libraries" then you must be using using an .itl file that is located in the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder, not the normal "iTunes" folder.
I can't tell you when your iTunes changed to this .itl file, but it could have happened before upgrading to iTunes 9 and you're just noticing now (if I'm right in that this "Title" is a new feature).
Look around your computer and see if you find another .itl file in the "iTunes" folder. Does it have a more recent date than the .itl file in the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder? If so, then you can change .itl files by closing iTunes and then re-start it while holding the Opt key (Shift for Windows) -- keep holding the Opt key until you see the prompt, at which point you should select "Choose Library" and navigate out of the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and over to the "iTunes" folder and select the .itl file there.
If the .itl file in the iTunes folder has an older date, then you've probably been using a different .itl file. Find the most recent dated copy and move that to the iTunes folder, then use the Opt-start method to change iTunes to the new file location.

Why can't Apple TV's and iOS devices see home sharing on my Windows 7 computer when iTunes libraries on other computers on the same network and connected to the same Home Sharing can?

I have never previously had any problems with Home Sharing, I have always found it to be completely reliable as advertised. I have 2 computers in the house, (one MacBook and one Windows Desktop) connected to the same Home Sharing account, connected to the same BT Home Hub 4. My situation is that I have nearly 2TB of data of which I would like to share with the home wirelessly, in my mind the desktop is the logical place for this to be shared from.
When running, iTunes on this desktop broadcasts to other iTunes libraries, but no other iOS devices or Apple TV's connected to the same Home Sharing account cannot see it.
I have tried turning Home Sharing off, and then turning it back on, closing iTunes, restarting the computer, going to Network and Sharing Centre and unticking IPv6 in the network adapter properties, even completely wiping the computer and reinstalling Windows 7.
One of the Apple TV's in the house was recently purchased by my parents with the promise from me that everything would work seamlessly... so far it isn't and I am frustrated that the Apple technology that I have come to rely on isn't working as expected.
One thing that has occurred to me upon writing this is that it is a very large amount of data, and I have not attempted to share this with another computer that is currently working and broadcasting it's Home Share fine.
I am sorry if I have ommitted any important details, any further questions don't hesitate to ask. I would be so grateful of any suggestions, my parents are depending on me.

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem. The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6. (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

Your question has probaby been answered already because it was posted a month ago but anyways what you do is you plug your phone into your computer. Next you want to open iTunes and click on File. Then you go down to "Transfer Purchases from *your name* iPhone". Then just wait for it to sync and you should be good.

I'm sorry I just saw the last post. I had two users on my hard drive, one for me and one for my daughter, but I am not sure what you mean by partioning my external????? I have heard the term before, but don't know how to do it. I am having serious crashing issues with this computer and believe I really need to do a clean install. Sharing iTunes libraries on 3 Windows 7 PCs and 3 iPads

We have iTunes on 3 Windows 7 PCs. Mine (Tom), my wife's (Mary) and my daughter's (Sue). Each of us has our own iTunes account and we each "share" our libraries (using both "Home Sharing" and the old original "Edit, Preferences, Sharing").
The 3 PCs can simultaneously see each others' iTunes libraries with out problems (in the left side Side Bar under "Shared")
We each have our own iPad. Each iPad can see the shared library for the account specified in "Settings, Videos, Home Sharing" but they can't see the other libraries on the other 2 PCs. We have to change the Apple ID in "Settings, Videos, Home Sharing" to see a different library. Thus, on an iPad, if we go to Videos, Shared we see "My iPad" and 1 shared library... not the other 2 shared libraries.
Is this normal? Can you only see 1 shared library at a time on an iPhone or an iPad?

Can you go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
type in
sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
Restart the computer if it did actually repair any files.
Start iTunes and see if it is ok.

ITunes library created on windows can't be read by iTunes on OS X

I'm running a MBP with OS X 10.5.4 and VIsta Ultimate SP1 32-bit via bootcamp. I have installed software allowing OS X to write as well as read NTFS partitions.
I have an external harddrive with my iTunes folder consolidated (using windows iTunes) on it so my library files and music are all on the hardrive in the iTunes folder.
I can access the library file fine in Vista (which I used to create the iTunes library originally) but in OS X I can't seem to select the library file. It's greyed out, even though I've removed the .itl extension etc...
What's odd is my old version (unconsolidated) iTunes library created by the windows iTunes can be accessed from OS X iTunes. Is it something to do with the consolidation.
Any ideas?

I have a MacBook running both Windows XP Pro (Boot Camp) and Mac OS 10.4.9 and I have installed iTunes on both platforms. I have my iTunes Library and songs on an external drive (which I can "see" in Windows via MacDrive), and which I wish to keep in place to save space on my MacBook. Trouble is I cannot get my Windows iTunes to recognize the song files on my Maxtor external drive, even when I point iTunes to these files in the "Advanced" pane of Preferences.
How can I utilize the one song folder by synchronizing the two sets of iTunes so I can listen to music on whichever platform I happen to be working on?
I have tried placing an alias of the iTunes song folder in my iTunes folder in "My Music" in Windows but this does not work.

I agree with Chris CA that this is the way I would *expect* iTunes to behave.
When I look at iTunes from my account (my music is in ~/Music/iTunes/ and not available to my spouse's account), I can see in my music library all my rips and my purchases, just as I would expect. I can use Store>View My Account (<myAppleID>) and all is as expected. Home sharing is NOT on.
Doing the same from the other account is not much different, actually. Nothing in the library yet, of course. Store>View My Account (<herAppleID>) also works. I CAN authorize my computer to play her music. I CAN view her iTunes purchases. When I attempt to download the purchases to HER library, though, I get the following dialog box:
Now I interpret this to mean that this computer (mine) will not download from a different AppleID (also mine) for 90 days. Is that [interpretation] correct?

My wife, daughter, and I all have ipods, each uses a different computer, my wife and I each use our laptops, and daughter uses the home desktop. Recently, the desktop has crashed and looks like we might need to re-format the drive (i.e. lose everything) and re-install Windows XP. She's got all her music on her iPod but unfortunately, no back up on a CD or DVD. Is there some way to re-create a new library for her from her iPod on to either of our laptops without causing conflicts with our existing iTunes libraries which are totally different. I.E. will the "sync" function work to recreate a library on a hard drive vs. going the other way around as usual.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. The new library will be empty until you add content to it. To get back to your original library you need to close iTunes and open it again while holding down the shift key, this time choose to open an existing library and navigate to its location: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
iTunes will only let you copy your purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. Thank you for the question. It sounds like you have two separate iTunes Libraries but would like to add the music from one to the other to have one consolidated library.
If you know where the files are for each library, I recommend opening one iTunes Library in iTunes and importing the files from the other library using the following steps:
Open iTunes
From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
MacAdd to Library
Windows
Add File to Library
Add Folder to Library
Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add

Next, you can search for duplicates:
Choose View > Show Duplicate Items to show duplicate items (matches are based on the song name and artist). If you have multiple versions of the same song (for example, live and studio versions, or versions from different albums) you can hold the Alt or Option key (for Mac OS X) or the Shift key (for Windows) and choose View > Show Exact Duplicate Items. This will show only duplicate songs having the same name, artist, and album.
