Reader 10 and 11 keep locking up with Win 8
All of a sudden I cannot open pdf files with Reader 10 or 11. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both (separately). Reader 10 will not even start up. Reader 11 will install. I can open it up and (sometimes) open a pdf file through the reader. If I try to double click on a saved pdf file, the reader will just sit and spin until I get the "not responding" message. This happens especially when clicking on a pdf file in IE or Firefox. Any ideas?

Thank you for trying to help. I followed your instructions, it took 6 hours to download, and then said it could not solve the problem (something to do with error 9?). It will have to go back to Apple - its only 3 days since it came out of the package and its very disappointing for him. Looks like I have to hang around in the Apple store in Plymouth all tomorrow until they can fix it, or will change it. Thanks for your help.

Satellite P200 keeps locking up with a blank screen
I have P200D-127 which keeps locking up with a blank screen quite regularly - its only 3 weeks old!
Loathed to take it back to staples as its taken so long to get going again after previous laptop died.
Anyone experienced this too?I also (coincidence?) bought a p200 Toshiba from Staples in October this year, and also have exactly the same problem.
To answer the question above, there is no pattern to when the screen goes blank and lock up - it happens randomly whether I am using the machine or not.
I too am loathe to return it, as I've read that they will just take your machine away and you lose the computer for a long time, when I need it for my work.
I am not a computer expert, so it is difficult to describe the problem much more than this, but of course it is extremely problematic if you are in the middle of important work when the machine locks up.
I've read about updating BIOS, but many forums have said that this didn't solve this problem!
My other thought is that I need to take off VISTA as it seems this is the route of the problem - never had this with any machine before VISTA...grrrr.
Anybody actually know how to solve this? I find it a bit ridiculous to spend a large chunk of money updating my laptop to find it virtually unusable! -

It worked for me, any way we have to do following things now, I have seen this happens becasue of the corrupt dll for Visual C++ packages. if the following thing will not work, I am affraid we have to reinstall the windows 7

Try to remove all the Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable and Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Packages (both x86 and x64) from the Control Panel

Time Machine does not provide archival storage.
If you delete a file from your disk it will eventually be deleted from your TM backup without any notice to you.
You need a second external disk to use for archival storage.
You also need a third disk for backups of the second disk. -
I am trying to download library books onto my Nook reader and keep receiving the message that the book isn't authorized to download. Have not downloaded a book in several months but haven't had this problem in the past. Help?

You assumed right, it is e dcr hosted in a browser page and viewed via shockwave with safari.
I don't know the nature of the problem but the user get an error.
Maybe I must decide to buy a mac and do some test.

As long as the cursor is in the field it stays editable.
The problem with the pen is it's in my hand all of the time. I just flip it up under my thumb against my palm to type. So, as soon as I move the pen, the field goes away and I can't type in it. Hoping this is making sense.
My tablet does have the touch function too, and I just found out I can use my finger to tap in the text field, then type. I guess that'll be my solution since I prefer not to leave a mouse set up on this iMac.
I'm thinking now that this is just a problem with the pen itself, and nothing to do with iPhoto. So glad to have this figured out! I really like iPhoto '11! So much easier for me, a simple P&S gal, than Aperture 3. I use iPhoto Library Manager too and love it!

Reader 9.1 locks up with this PDF

was rendered using Visagesoft to PDF 1.2
It opens fine in Reader 8.
It opens fine in Acrobat Pro 9
But Reader 9.1 locks up when we try to open it in our environment.
Can anyone else open this with Reader 9?
Any thoughts?

I know with Adobe Reader, as with everything in life, you get exactly the support you pay for. That'll be nothing, then.
Anyway here's our solution to our own problem in case you get the same thing.
Process Monitor revealed the truth.
The chris.pdf file needed - for no good reason - the Korean codepage file:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Resource\TypeSupport\Unicode\Mappings\win\CP949.TXT
Installing the Korean font pack fixes the problem, as it deploys this file.
Just having a "fake" version of CP949.TXT (based on CP1250.TXT) also works. The benefit being that the real one is 790K and the fake is 10K.
It seems to fix all the issues we had with our CRM's PDFs and the Maxdata site PDFs also work.
The CRM is Lexus Nexus's InterAction 5.6 -

i am having major trouble installing itunes. i had itunes working fine and i went to update it as it told me there was an update which i thought i did. i went on my laptop the next day and it said "itunes was not installed correctly error 7 windows error 998"
i read a few articles on here but i am having no joy. i uninstalled itunes and reinstalled and that did not work. i also unistalled some other apple things cant remember the names sorry!

Clean out and uninstall all the apple programs and software thru Programs and manually.

itunes 10.5 may affect iTunes media playlists, not sure, depends on what you have.

have imac 27 inch. I plan to bootcamp the drive and install win 7 ultimate to run AutoCAD. I want to backup the imac using time machine and the boot camped drive to one device. Can time capsule be partitioned to use time machine for osx and win 7 backup for bootcamp drive.
You cannot backup a Windows partition or system using Time Machine. Nor can you partition a TC as far as I know although Airport Utility may allow that now. See:

Of course you should carefully read the documentation that came with your TC to find out what options are available. -

I myself do not use MS Access, but a PreparedStatement is in general the best option.
You can set parameters in the SQL which then get converted and even protected against SQL injection hacking. -
I'm on a really old plan...America's Choice Family Share 500, Free N&W, with 2 lines, and each line has the unlimited data feature on the line.
Neither line has a texting package.
I currently have a Droid Bionic (large SIM card) & want to get a Droid Turbo (small SIM card). It is literally cheaper for me to pay full retail for a phone (actually 2 phones) than switch to a "More Everything" plan because my plan is so old. Across the two lines, we probably only use 3-5 GB/mo, so we aren't 'heavy' data users, but we aren't using 1-2GB/mo either.
I went into a VZW Corporate store, and they said I should be able to keep my plan with unlimited data if I pay full retail, but the sales person said their system has been knocking off unlimited data for other customers, even for something as small as a SIM card change.
I tried upgrading on verizonwireless.com, and the system tried to kick me out of my America's Choice Family Share 500 plan.
What is the process to get a new phone, pay ~$600 for it, get the new SIM card assigned to the account, and keep my calling plan with unlimited data?
(I also have the option to turn on & off Mobile Hot-Spot for $30/mo at will...but probably only have it active for 1 week a year, if that)
