Reader 10 Terminal Server 08 Font Issue

I upgraded from Adobe Reader 8 to Adobe Reader 10 on my 2008 Terminal Server and now the fonts print changed. Readable but not in the Arial font the document shows up in. This happens for all documents in Reader 10. This does not happen for other programs, only Reader 10. I use Easy Print (no specific printer drivers). Reader 10 on a local PC does not have this issue so I think its something with the way 10 and terminal server are playing. Is there a fix out for this issue or am I going to need to downgrade reader versions on my Terminal Servers?
Thanks!!!

Can you please see if launching the Preferences window from within Adobe Reader standalone application works?

  • Problem with Adobe Pro and Reader on terminal server

    Hi,
We have have a Terminal Server environment with Adobe Pro and Reader. We have security for Adobe Pro, so only certain user has access to Adobe Pro and all users has access to Adobe Reader.
Some users receive many email with pdf's attachments in Outlook and need to print these attachments. They use the Outlook function to print email and attachment automatically. The users who has access to Adobe Pro can print attachment automatically with no problem.
The problem is user who only have access to Adobe Reader. The user can't print attachment automatically with the email, only the email is printed. But, they can open attachment and print with Adobe Reader. But, it's impossible to open each attachment because there are so many.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
    So if I understand correctly,
    1. You have installed Acrobat Pro & Reader on a Terminal server.
    2. You have created a security group in your Active Directory Users & Computers for users having access to Acrobat
    3. You have set permissions on C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe and C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Acrotray.exe on the terminal server and provided access only to the security group created above.
    4. Users are accessing the Terminal server through RDWeb or connecting remotely through MSTSC (RDP) or using a .RDP file
    5. Users get emails with PDF attachments and print the mail directly without opening the PDF in Reader.
Users check the box to print the attachments with the mail (see snapshot below):
    Some questions:
    1. What is the OS and platform (x86 or x64) of the terminal server?
    2. What are the versions of Acrobat & Reader on the terminal server?
    Thanks,
    Vinod

  • Adobe Reader X - Terminal Server - Preferences

Looking for a way to force Adobe to open all pdf's in the Reader app and not in IE even when launched from IE.
Any advice on controlling process overrun?  Seeing acrord32.exe 50 times at 30MB each.

That sounds normal. And the memory overhead is probably the same if you open in IE or Reader, the same work has to be done, it's just controlled by a different process. I assume those 50 copies of Reader are 50 Terminal Server users...

  • Remote access terminal server & VOIP phone issues

I pose a question to the community. I work and manage a building that remotely accesses a terminal services server for my users to view an ERP application at our other building. Lately we have issues where those users when the let their screen idle lose their connection and have to wait with a customer on the line to reconnect to the Terminal Server. We don't have the server set to boot users off after any amount of time and the users at the other building have no issue of course since its on site. We also have a Mitel VOIP system and on regular occasion the calls go static or drop all together. Ive done trace routes from the router at both buildings and it seems to get stuck at a Level3 datacenter in Washington DC. Ive contacted my ISP's NOC asking for them to contact Level3 to look into the issue, but the responder gave me grief and...

Having them both kills being able to access the Net.Take out the gateway on your loopback adapter and network traffic should happen as normal :)
Is this configured only in TNSNAMES.ORA, and if so how? It's configured in listener.ora, but changing the port won't change the amount of traffic nor the Oracle load, it will just make everything slightly more confusing to everyone trying to help you troubleshoot your machine ;)

  • Help with Reader on terminal server

    Hi All,
When running a business system that uses LiveCycle Forms and at the end Adobe reader on Terminal Servers.
After sometime, when opening and closing the Reader, TextFields in the forms opened as autocomplete listbox with all previous data entered although the autoComplete is false.
After that only values in the textField are allowed / leading to problem that Reader is stuck.
    Thanks in Advance.

It depends upon the version of the Service pack for Windows 2000. If you
have service pack 4, then I believe Reader 9 will work. You can download
it directly from the Adobe ftp site.

  • Files don't open or will only open 'Read Only'. Server reboot resolves issue for 1 day

    Greetings!
We have a SharePoint 2010 Foundation server that I recently inherited. I'm a novice at SharePoint, but let me cut to the chase.
Users have recently (within the last week) started experiencing a problem where if they open a file, it will error either saying that the file cannot be opened, or it will only open in read only. This occurs with Excel, Word, Power Point docs. They CAN however,
open and edit these documents in the browser with web apps. After launching the full office application, if they click 'Edit Document', it will appear to switch to editable mode, but the title bar will still contain 'Read Only' and they can't save changes
directly back and are forced to do a 'Save As'. The only thing I have been able to do to remedy this is to quiesce the server and reboot it. After reboot, it will work until something magical happens overnight and it's broken again the next morning. I'm trying
to hunt down what this magical event is but could use some help.
Note that after I reboot the server, users can access and modify normally, no rebooting of workstations or closing of any applications (including the browser that's already on SharePoint) for it to start working, so I believe we can eliminate an endpoint
    issue.
    Server Specs:
VMWare VM version 9 (VMTools up-to-date)
    16GB RAM
    250GB HDD
    2x vCPU
Windows 2008 R2 (latest updates installed)
SQL DB Hosted remote on a SQL 2008 R2 server running on Windows 2008 R2. The SQL database is set up in a mirror configuration.
I'm sure I missed a lot of pertinent information but want to get something out there. Thanks in advance.

There are warnings that repeat every ~1hour and one critical that occurs daily. Under each error, I added notes of what I've done to remedy.

The SharePoint Health Analyzer detected a condition requiring your attention.  Drives are at risk of running out of free space.
Available drive space is less than five times the value of physical memory. This is dangerous because it does not provide enough room for a full memory dump with continued operation. It also could cause problems with the Virtual Memory swap file:

Examine the failing servers and delete old logs or free space on the drives. For more information about this rule, see "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=142688".

  • MS15-10 kb3013455 Feb 15 Patching Font issues

Please let us know if any one has faced issues on Terminal servers for Font issues after installing MS15-10 - KB3013455 Feb15 Patch
Resolution and font issues, is there a fix for this
We had issues after installing this patch in our environment, had to uninstall
    OS Details
    Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 Enterprise without Hyper-V
    6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002
    32 bit

There's a patch now: KB3037639.  At the moment it's only available from the download center.  Search for:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/search/Results.aspx?q=kb3013455&form=DLC
The Download link will offer two updates instead of one.  KB3013455 is the original patch; KB3037639 fixes the font problems that the other causes.  You have to download it for each version (Vista/Server
2008/x86/x64).  Thanks to the MVPs on
this thread who kept everybody posted.
NOTE:  If you uninstalled KB3013455, you'll have to reinstall it, then install KB3037639; the second patch only fixes the font problem, not the original security issue.

  • Cannot Print in IE11 on Terminal Server 2012

I am having an issue with printing with IE11 in Terminal Server 2012.
    Issue-
The print preview shows up as blank, and when I hit print, nothing happens(the print window never shows up). I can print from other applications fine. Additionally, this is only affecting one user on my terminal server. Everyone else is able to print out
of Internet Explorer fine. I have tried launching IE with add-ons disabled and the problem exists in both 64/32 bit IE. I have rebooted my terminal server. The user is still unable to print from IE. I have checked that enhanced IE security is off.
Nothing seems to be working here.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
According to your description, this just occurs to particular user profile. Please check if there is a Low folder existed in following path:
    "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Temp
If it does exist, take these steps to apply the integrity level:
1.Open a Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
2.Type following command and press ENTER:
    ICACLS "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Temp\Low" /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low
    3.Restart the computer.
4.Print or print preview a Web page in Internet Explorer.

  • Tseng - Font Issues need your help

Tseng, I am calling upon your knowledge of font issues. I read some previous threads regarding font issues relating to a validation error of the follow:
    'FOND' Font Association usability
I am attempting to install the Frutiger font which is, according to OS X ver. 10.5.6, a Post Script Type 1 Outline font.
I understand that Leopard has some issues dealing with bitmap-only type fonts, however if this is recognized as a Post Script Type 1 Outline font then where lies the issue?
Also, even stranger, is that despite the errors from validating the font in fontbook, the font works on almost every computer in my office except one... how strange is that. PS. I also did all software updates just to be sure.
If you have any suggestions or information I would be ever so thankful!

    Yes they are all present.
I compared my computer (where the font works) to the computer that the font doesn't work and the files are the exact same.
    It is an odd situation.
Even on my computer where the fonts work, if I go into Font Book and validate the font it still shows errors, but it works.

  • Issues with WebDav over SSL via Terminal Server when Accessing SharePoint 2013

    Hi All,
We have deployed a terminal server from which multiple users access and heavily use SharePoint 2013 (hosted on a separate server). The SharePoint site is published to the internet and is operating over an SSL certificate. Over the last few months we have
been encountering a randomly occurring issue where all the users become unable to use Open with Explorer or mapped drives to access the site. During this time they can still access the site through the browser OK and download files etc. This issue sometimes
reoccurs every few days, although at points it hasn't occurred for a couple of weeks before resurfacing.
    Current Terminal Server Config
    TS 2008 R2 Enterprise
Site added to Trusted Sites. (have checked during broken time and still recognized as trusted)
Using IE 11, site added as compatibility view
    Registries updated as below
    reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters /v AuthForwardServerList /t REG_MULTI_SZ /d "*.clientsite.com"
    reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters /v BasicAuthLevel /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f
    reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Internet /v BasicAuthLevel /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f
registry added for tabprocgrowth added to 2
    My test result are below:
Restarting the SharePoint server or the terminal server will resolve the behaviour
    until the issue occurs again.
Users on the terminal server can still open the
    ttps://clientsite2.harrierhc.com
URL (this url is bound to the same UCC cert) with open with explorer during this time.
While users are unable to access the ttps://clientsite.harrierhc.com
URL, if they access the same site from WebDAV with a separate binding (e.g. ttp://clientsite the behaviour works fine.
All other users not on the terminal server can still use the open with explorer behaviour during this time.
IIS reset on the SP Server & restarting the web client service on the terminal server have no impact
Reimporting the IIS certs have no impact
There are numerous errors in both server’s event logs but none at the time of the issue instigation.
Clearing the IE cached certificates has no impact
Going to IE properties for the site and clicking the ‘Install Certificate’ has no impact
Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated. If you need any more info let me know. (sorry for the ttps:// links cant be posted until my account is verified?
    Thanks again

    Hiya,
are there any load balancers involved?

  • Office 2007 + Custom template (dot/dotm files) on terminal server -- issues

We are trying to transition to a terminal server + thin-client setup.
The TS runs Server 2008 R2, and the Office version is 2007 (for compatibility reasons -- we have a lot of macros etc that won't run with Office 2010).
The normal.dotm for Office, Excel & Word are customised in order to insert custom macros, font styling etc. A batch file runs on logon, copying the custom normal.dotm files from a network share to the local computer's C: drive in a folder called "Templates".
So it'd copy the data from "\\SERVER1\share\normal.dotm" to "C:\templates\" on the machine.
Then, a GPO would re-direct the location for the normal.dotm file from the default location to the new location (i.e. C:\Templates\) from above. This allowed updating of custom macros etc to all computers on the net. It was messy, but it worked.
Now that we're wanting to transition to terminal server, we're having an issue where the script still works, however when closing Outlook / Excel / Word, users are receiving a message stating "The file normal.dotm is in use".
I'm guessing what's happening is, the first person to log on to the Terminal Server and launch their instance of Outlook/Word/Excel is getting an exclusive handle to this file; And subsequently launched instances get this error.
There is nothing _wrong_ with the system per se -- everything works, however every time an Office app is closed, the user gets the annoying message.
What is the correct solution to this? Is there a cleaner way to deploy macros/styling settings rather than modifying normal.dotm? Another solution I can think of is to create a copy of the templates/normal.dotm for every single user in their %AppData% folder
and tell Office to use the %AppData% copy -- but this would mean as many copies of the templates as there are users which doesn't seem like a very clean solution.
I'm open to suggestions and insights on the cleanest and most efficient way to solve this problem.

    Hi
update to this issue from my side:
We opened a Support call for this issue and got it solved.
The SQL script to recreate a fresh Enterprise Global (eglobal.SQL) does not exist for Project Server 2013 currently. But the support created one for us. So if someone has this issue, contact Microsoft Support, they will provide you the script.
    Kind regards

    Jason...
Make Certain that you Had the Server In "TS-Install" Mode When you Installed Acrobat. It Is In your Control Panel. I Have Pasted the MS Help File Below.
Install Programs on a Terminal Server
You should install the Terminal Server role service on the computer before you install any programs that you want to make available to users. If you install the Terminal Server role service on a computer that already has programs installed, some of the existing programs may not work correctly in a multiple user environment. Uninstalling and then reinstalling the affected programs may resolve these issues.
To ensure that an application is installed correctly to work in a multiple user environment, you must put the terminal server into a special installation mode before you install the application on the terminal server. This special installation mode ensures that the correct registry entries and .ini files that are needed to support running the application in a multiple user environment are created during the installation process.
You can put a terminal server into this special installation mode by using either of the following:
Install Application on Terminal Server tool under Programs in Control Panel. This tool will run a wizard to help install the application.
Change user /install command at a command prompt. You will have to start the installation of the application manually.
After the application is installed, you must put the terminal server into execution mode before remote users begin using the application. The Install Application on Terminal Server tool will automatically put the terminal server into execution mode when it is finished running. To put the terminal server into execution mode from a command prompt, use the change user /execute command.
    Additional considerations
Some programs may require minor setup modifications to run correctly on a terminal server.
If you have programs that are related to each other or have dependencies on each other, you should install the programs on the same terminal server. For example, you should install Microsoft Office as a suite on the same terminal server instead of installing individual Office programs on separate terminal servers.
You should consider installing individual programs on separate terminal servers in the following circumstances:
The program has compatibility issues that may affect other programs.
A single program and the number of associated users may fill server capacity.
For more information about the change user command-line tool, see the Terminal Services Command Reference (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=89674).
For more information about deploying programs on a terminal server, see the Terminal Server page on the Windows Server 2008 TechCenter (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=79608).

  • Adobe Reader 9 highlights text when scrolling in terminal server

Running a terminal server with WIndow 2003.  Have Adobe 9 Reader installed.  When a pdf is opened, it will look correct.  However, when one uses the scroll bar on the right to see more of the document, text can be highlighted and change colors constantly when scrolling.
Test it outside of terminal server and it works fine.  This issue did not happen with other versions of Reader.  I have attached two samples one clean and one highlighted.
    Any help is appreciated

Very cool. Thanks for the info!

Subject: Adobe Reader 9 highlights text when scrolling in terminal server
Okay. Here is what I found. These settings are changed\saved under the User settings in the registry. Here is the key the changes are made to:
    HKCU\Software\Adobe\Adobe Reader\9.0\Originals
When "NONE" is selected from Adobe Reader - Edit - Preferences - Page Display - Rendering, three DWORD values are added to the above mentioned registry key. These are:
    Value Name - Value Data
    *bAntialiasText - 0
    benableDDR - 0
    iAntialiasThreshold - 12*
I have added these lines to a login script that adds the necessary DWORD values to default the "Rendering" to NONE.
    *reg add "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals" /V bAntialiasText /T REG_DWORD /F /D 0
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals" /V benableDDR /T REG_DWORD /F /D 0
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals" /V iAntialiasThreshold /T REG_DWORD /F /D 12*
    Cheers!

  • Terminal Server performance issue

    Hi,
We have Acrobat Pro 11.0.07 on a Terminal Serveur ( windows server 2008 R2 standard) and got performance issue when we use acrobat. Acrobat use a complete core and this is slowing our server. Is there an other version of Acrobat to use or patch to fix that issue ?

    Hi Sean,

Did you try to login this terminal server locally ?

  • Application redraw issue over Citrix and Terminal Server

    Hi All,
We provide a client-server application which connects to a SQL Server database. The middle-tier is hosted on an application server (Windows Server 2008 R2) which in turn connects to the SQL Server database. The fat client can either be installed on user laptops/desktops
    or published using Citix/Terminal services.
We have a long standing issue which frankly I just cannot fathom. A customer has published the client via Citrix to users and using roaming profiles. If an employee is using the application in London, the roaming profile is created on a server in London and
connects to the middle-tier in London. If an employee is using the application in Glasgow, the roaming profile is created in Edinburgh and the user connects to the middle-tier in London. The customer is also using DFS
The roaming profile consists of the 'My Documents', 'My Pictures', 'My Videos', 'My Music' and 'Windows' folder. Distributed File System (DFS) is used for roaming profile folder replication between offices. See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc732863%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
The Edinburgh users are experiencing application redraw issue where the interface loads in chunks. For example, when a user scrolls up and down or left and right, the data loads immediately (from SQL Server) but the interface (GUI) loads in blocks. You can
actually see each segment of the GUI components loading. The issue also occurs if connecting via a Terminal Server where the application is also installed.
For London users, it all works fine. If an Edinburgh user comes to London, they have no issues.
The network connection is super fast between the various offices.
The application is built using C++ and Delphi and uses the GDI API to draw the objects.
    Any guidance is appreciated.

    Hello partner,
Thanks for contacting Microsoft. This is Sophia who is going to help with this issue. From your description, I learnt that users from Edinburgh have application redraw issue. However, London users worked fine. Please let me know if I misunderstand your purpose.
Based on the information, it seems that the issue located in the middle-tier in London. Could you try building a middle-tier in Edinburgh and then test how the issue goes?
Besides, based on my experience and research, by default the allocation of the bandwidth is 70 percent for graphics data and 30 percent for virtual channel data, meaning when bandwidth usage is under pressure, graphics data is guaranteed to get 70 percent
of the available bandwidth.  And we can tweak the settings a bit for some scenarios. To change the settings, we can set registry values. Please reference the information below.
    ===========================================================================================================================================
Note: For these settings to take effect, the computer must be restarted.
Following is the list of registry values that affect the bandwidth allocation behavior. These are all DWORD values under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermDD:
    ·         FlowControlDisable: When set to 1, this value disables the new flow control algorithm, making it essentially First-In-First-Out (FIFO) for all packet requests. This provides results similar to Windows Server
2003. (The default for this value is 0).
    ·         FlowControlDisplayBandwidth / FlowControlChannelBandwidth: These two values together determine the bandwidth distribution between display and virtual channels. You can set these values in the range of 0–255.
For example, setting FlowControlDisplayBandwidth = 100 and FlowControlChannelBandwidth = 100 creates an equal bandwidth distribution between video and VCs. The default is 70 for FlowControlDisplayBandwidth and 30 for FlowControlChannelBandwidth, thus making
the default distribution equal to 70–30.
    ·         FlowControlChargePostCompression: If set to 1, this value bases the bandwidth allocation on post-compression bandwidth usage. The default for this value is 0, which means that the bandwidth distribution is applied
    on pre-compressed data.
For more information about RDP Bandwidth, please reference the article below.
