Reader 10 X won't launch with changed thumbnail icon

Hey guys,
I'm have an issue with getting Acrobat Reader to launch from a 3rd party program. Basically, in this program, you click 'view' and the pdf opens in Reader. However, on one of my computers, this isn't working. It looks like my computer's PDF default was set to launch in Windows Media Center, so I changed the default to launch with Adobe Reader. Now, in Windows Explorer, double clicking on any PDF file will launch Reader, but the icon is weird (see below) and the 3rd party program does nothing, as if it's confused as to what program to use.

See how the Adobe logo doesn't take up the whole icon place? Why is the logo on a white sheet of paper here? I suspect this is causing issues with the 3rd party program.
I have uninstalled Reader 10 and even reinstalled with 9... same issue.
Running Win7 32-bit.

I just downloaded Adobe Acrobat X Pro. I changed the PDF default program to X Pro and that's normal now. Normal icon and 3rd party program launches Acrobat. But when I switch the default back to the regular Reader, the icon changes to the image above and my program won't launch Reader. Any ideas other than purchasing Pro? What gives?

The only other idea I have to make sure Reader is uninstalled completely; use the Acrobat Cleaner Tool from http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Note: this tool will also uninstall Acrobat if it's installed on that computer.

I posted the post you reference on June 11, 2013.
Since then a lot of things have happened. We released 9.5.4 several weeks ago, which seems to work fine for everybody under Mavericks.
We also posted an update for version 10 that makes it Mavericks compatible and afterwards released an update that fixes most issues reported.

It would have been lovely if they let us know (Important Notice that the New LR5 is compatible only with MAC LION 10.7 and newer Mac versions of operating systems and older, not previous Mac operating systems versions) on the main page before purchasing LR5. I've never had a LR product that didn't work with the old operating system, and I've owned all of them. I think I just trusted Adobe would continue on with the same process . So basically, we'd have to upgrade our operating system and risk the change of now having a situation with all of our current programs that work perfectly with LR5.
Is it possible that Adobe could make sure that they inform trusting customers like us, similar to when trying to market their new products campaigns, they tell us how fabulous the upcoming product are in a variety of ways.... luring us in... You know most of us are Artists.
Just make sure you make it known other than looking at the tech spec page... say like on the page where the shopping cart option is? Epson's printer wouldn't calibrate with the Adobe PS4 a few years ago. It took us months to figure out that, it had nothing to do with our calibration process. Finally....after speaking to Epson, they walked us through varies steps etc... hundreds of dollars later, we were able to get a good print, it turns out the Adobe 4 software was not compatible at that time with the new Epson software. So here we go again...

Itunes upgraded but won't launch with Windows 7

I upgraded to the most recent version of iTunes 2 days ago (5 April 2010) and now iTunes simply won't launch at all. I have tried some of the remedies in the posts and have even tried a complete reinstall but iTunes still will ot launch.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

I had the same problem: after updating to iTunes 9.1 (no errors) I just couldn't launch it. In Task Manager I saw that the iTunes process was running but it never really opened.
After nights of frustration of scanning the net for solutions I finally managed to get iTunes to run again.
1) Firstly I deleted the new iTunes 9.1 and all programmes associated with it according to the directions given here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
It also mentions you should remove the Bonjour service but I could never make that work (no privileges or something like that).
2) After that I reinstalled a previous version of iTunes. In this case 9.0.3.15. I got the download here: http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php
3) Then I disabled the Bonjour service with the MSCONFIG method mentioned at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292?viewlocale=en_US
There they state that you should check which service clashes with Windows by trying to disable one service at a time. I found out pretty quickly that it was just the Bonjour service that caused the problems. All other services could run normally.
After the reboot iTunes finally started up again and I was able to restore my library.
Only thing is that I can not use the Remote App on my iPod Touch. That apparently required the use of Bonjour.
I hope this method helps for some of you!

ITunes won't launch with Leopard

I recently purchashed and installed Leopard on my MacBook, and ever since the OS upgrade I cannot launch iTunes. At first I kept getting an annoying error message (8791) with an older version of iTunes (v7.4.2). I asked for help here in the discussions forum, and was advised according to this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1207611&tstart=0 - which unfortunately left me at a dead end. Then I figured an updated version might do the trick, but after installing v7.5 iTunes still will not launch - with the updated version I don't even get an error message - it just ignores the launch command all together...
Anyone - please help!

I am having the same problem and have followed the same advice with the same results. In addition my finder is missing the searchlight field and reboots every time I try to open finder preferences. I also can't open photoshop. I get the message "Could not initialize Photoshop because there is not enough memory (RAM). I'm running a macbook pro. I don't know if this additional info helps but I am desperate.

LE 9 won't launch with 10.7.2 after installing on 2nd iMac

I installed the LE 9 Upgrade onto a 2nd iMac running 10.7.2 but it won't launch.
I get an error message saying something along the lines of "This version of Logic Express (9) will not run on this version of OX S"
OS X 10.7.2 is installed.
I tried launching it unconnected from network but still no luck.
The EULA allows for installtion on up to 2 computers owned by me - which both are.

After updating to 9.1.5 it now works.
Did so before seeing the above suggestion but forgot to post that the problem was fixed.

Cold Hard Disk - iPod won't boot with bad folder icon.

I have a 5G iPod, and after a couple months of use, I found that the iPod will start to refuse to boot if it's anything less than 60ºF. I use it a lot, and right now it's cold out, around 40ºF.
We're a poor little white family up in costal Maine where the temperatures are low in the winter, around 20-40ºF. When I drive around in my Jeep Grand Cherokee, I have the heat turned up so that I'm comfortably warm, but my iPod isn't. It will play music fine when it's warmer than room temperature, but I will notice when driving, sometimes the music will just stop -- I look at the iPod and notice that the whole thing is just frozen up - no controls work, the lock doesn't show/disappear when i turn on/off the hold switch, and when I reboot it it will show that silver apple, then light the screen with a grayscale image of a 'Folder with exclamation point' icon, seemingly not finding the iPod Operating System on its hard disk. The unit will refuse to work again unless i bring it to higher temperatures. When it does work, I have to keep it under my leg when I'm driving, and that sometimes doesn't work.
It will work fine indoors, unless it's been in my bedroom overnight, which gets down to 55-60º at night (i have a room thermometer in here), which is normal for us.
Also, if I hook up the iPod to my computer, even if I force it into Disk Mode (grayscale DO NOT DISCONNECT logo), the computer has a hard time mounting it.
I can't imagine that the hard disk wasn't designed to operate in such a normal temperature range for us distant poor Maine residents. There must be something wrong with it. Will I need to send it away?

Openoffice 2.3.1 won't launch with X11 2.1.1 under Leopard 10.5.2

I have noticed that with every version of X11 > 2.1.1, Openoffice won't start.
It does launch, but nothing happens.
Removing the X11 versions 2.1.2, 2.1.3 or 2.1.4 in a "clean manner" via Appdelete and then re-installing X11 2.1.1 makes Openoffice starting and working again.
GIMP and Inkscape are not affected since they fully work with all X11 versions mentionned.
Don't know the reason for this problem.
However, since it is related to the version of X11, this must be a X11 bug.

I've just tested the following thing :
Clean deinstall X11 2.1.1 and Openoffice 2.3.1 with Appdelete.
Install X11 2.1.4 (latest)
Reboot
Install Openoffice 2.4.0RC4
Same problem.
X11 works fine with GIMP or Inkscape.
OOo launches, but does not start at all.
So this is truly a X11 problem.
Worse : the supposely fixed "Command timed out" window error that shows up at OOo launch is still here...

Itunes 7.6 won't launch with 10.4.11

I've been trying to launch itunes for months now with the new update. I'm running 10.4.11. Does anyone have a solution? I'm really thinking of switching over to PC because this issue is really getting to me. I have all these songs purchased and I can't burn them to disk. Help please

hmm.. I think 10.4.11 is a potential iTunes killer. You'll need to Archive and Install from the original system discs and this should solve the problem without losing any tracks or playlists.
Additionally, my iPhone would then not sync with iTunes once I had done this so I had to download the latest iTunes and install over my existing copy (no need to de-install iTunes). Now all problems solved.
Worth also mentioning that if you are running QuarkXpress 7 you will need to re-install after an Archive and Install as it won't open.

Aperture Won't Launch With 2 Video Cards

I use 3 monitors with my G5 Dual 2.5GHz for running a number of programs simultaneously and also for Final Cut Pro editing. In the center is an Apple 23" HD Cinema Display. On the left is an Apple 15" DVI flat screen and on the right is an Apple 15" VGA flat screen.
Aperture will not launch at all. It gives me an error stating that the video card is not supported. The main card is a GeForce 6800 GT DDR that has the 23" and the 15" DVI connected. The problem is the Radeon 7000 that has the 15" VGA hooked up. I took the Radeon out and Aperture ran fine so I know where the problem lies.
Obviously I cannot keep taking the Radeon in an out of the G5 whenever I want to use different programs. Does anyone have any suggestions? I hope Apple will have an update where you can tell Aperture what monitors to use or video card to ignore. That should alleviate the problem. Is there a way of using Terminal to turn off the Radeon which would allow Aperture to run? I just bought this program and was all excited to start using it. Now I'm bummed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Maybe there is a way to turn the Radeon 7000 on and off through Terminal? Some process I can quit to run Aperture on the 2 monitors connected to the nVidia GeForce 6800GT and then restart that process when I'm done so I can go back to using 3 monitors?

Since the upgrade to 1.6 Sonata won't take --profile for an option. It will spit python errors at me (I don't like python errors).

I had two profiles - one for the laptop (on which Sonata runs) and one for the server (which hosts my music). Both would error out. Sonata starts counting at 1 it seems, so I tried specifying profile 1 and 2, both give this error. I removed the ~/.config/sonata dir to make sure it wasn't some weird configuration error and reconfigured, but the problem remains. Sonata starts up fine without any arguments and I can connect to the profiles just fine.

I have the current version (sonata-1.6.2.1-7) and get a similar error:

I Upgraded to iOS 8.3 and now mail won't start on my iPad 2

I Am having similar issues with both IPad Air 2 and IPhone 6 since 8.3 upgrade
i also have a hotmail.co.uk email address
i also have issues with outlook iOS app version 1.1.4 since this update
prior to update I would get mails to both Apple Mail app and also Outlook App and could manage them in either and the files would delete or move in the opposite app.
since 8.3 I am definitely having sync issues with what I want to do.
it is either a hotmail issue or an 8.3 issue however the fact my gmail app and apple mail app still sync correctly I am leaning toward it being a Microsoft mail issue but I could be wrong.
I Have uninstalled and reinstalled outlook app and have deleted hotmail address and reinstalled but made no difference.
the only thing left would be to reset iPad and iPhone but hoping I won't have to do that.

Fennec won't launch with Weave installed without toggling "safe-mode"

I'm having a strange problem with fennec and weave on my Nokia n810. Once i have run fennec with weave installed (and waited for the sync to finish), I can no longer launch fennec. Launching fennec from xterm just returns me to the command prompt.
If I then launch fennec in safe-mode, close, then start in "normal" mode, everything works. But I have to launch fennec in safe-mode once before it will run again with weave installed. This is definitely repeatable.
I've done clean installs of fennec, I've completely deleted my profile, but the problem persists.
Hoping somebody here might have some ideas...

App store apps won't update with changed account name...

I switched my account name about 3 months ago as the email that I was using as my account name I was going to get rid of. The switch over seemed fine and itunes accepted the editing of my account name. Now itunes will not allow me to update any apps that were purchased prior to the user name change for the account. I try to get apple to reset my password but I do not get anything via email with the reset instructions.
So what has happened since the change? I know I did not open a new account, merely edited the name on the account, but even if I opened a new account it still won't let me log into the old account or reset the password so now I am stuck with all these apps that need updating and there is nothing I can do.

IMovie HD won't launch with mytv.pvr pluged in to the USB bus

I recently purchased te Eskape mytv.pvr. After installing it the iMovie HD would crash when launched. If I unplug the mytv.pvr, iMovie launched and works fine. When the mytv.pvr plugin, iMovie quit the the "The application iMove HD quit unexpectedly." error Has anyone else had this problem, or know a solution?

I do not have any personal experience with Eskape mytv.pvr, but I have not been able to find any positive feedback regarding it in conjunction with imovie, iDVD, QuickTime or even iSight. i just do not think it will work.
Looks like your best bet it is take it back and get EyeTV or you could send the file into Toast Titanium, control-click and save the file to your HD.
Toast will convert the movie into a DV file for imovie. to use.
