Reader 11.0.05 Mui update

Is there not a mui update for this version? The webpage only shows one for "All Languages". In the past there has been one for MUI and "All Languages". Is this update not applicable to MUI? I dont see not of it in the bullentin.

All security updates and many quarterly updates do not deliver separate MUI installers.
From the Admin Guide:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/basics.html#multilanguage-ins tallers
2.10   Multilanguage installers¶
Note:  MUI installers are only created in tandem with full MSI installers. They are not created for MSP updates and patches. For example, 10.0 and 10.1 include MUI installers while 10.0.1, 10.0.2, and 10.0.3 do not. What this means for your deployment methodology is that you simply install the generic installer over your MUI install if there is a no MUI-specific installer. If there is a MUI-specific installer, you must use that. Download the MUI installer from ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/.

  • Silent FULL install of Reader 10.1.2 (MUI) Failing to open Web Browser PDFs post

    Hello,
having major issues with a silent install to 3300 users.
I Have a vb script that runs in SCCM to install reader 10.1.0 (MUI) and the increnetal patches for 10.1.1 and 10.1.2 both MUI.  I have created a transform to not use a desktop icon, turn on protect mode and supress the eula.  The install does not load in the script unless adobe processes have ended.  The log file reports a successfull install and PDFs ope with a language prompt for the first one from the local machine fne.   3 problems.
** The script searches for old versions and completly install the mui version over all with the following command line:
    "AcroRead.msi TRANSFORMS=AcroRead.mst PATCH="AdbeRdrUpd1011_MUI.msp; AdbeRdrUpd1012_MUI.msp" ALLUSERS=1 LANG_ID=1033 PRODUCTLANGUAGE=1033 LEAVE_PDFOWNERSHIP=YES REMOVE_PREVIOUS=YES EULA_ACCEPT=YES SUPPRESS_APP_LAUNCH=YES /qn /norestart /LOG c:\progra~1\Adobe\AdobeReader10.1.2.log"

Problems on about 120 computers so far:
    1.  If the system had 10.1.1  and not the 10.1.1 MUI and 10.1.2 MUI stay in Add Remove Programs
    2. Systems that get the full uninstall and reinstall  even if adobe is closed and browser is closed and user can not read files from the web or email after the complete install to 10.1.2 mui.  Adobe works locally.
    3.  Some systems appear to upgrade fine.
    HELP PLEASE!!!!

There are a couple of things that caught my notice in the command being used which may be causing the issue:
    1. You should not be clubbing the Rdr MUI 10.1.1 patch and the Rdr MUI 10.1.2 patch, since all the Reader patches are cumulative till the last quarterly release. Hence, no need to apply the Reader 10.1.1 MUI patch in this case. The correct command would be:
    "AcroRead.msi TRANSFORMS=AcroRead.mst PATCH="AdbeRdrUpd1012_MUI.msp" ALLUSERS=1 LANG_ID=1033 PRODUCTLANGUAGE=1033 LEAVE_PDFOWNERSHIP=YES REMOVE_PREVIOUS=YES EULA_ACCEPT=YES SUPPRESS_APP_LAUNCH=YES /qn /norestart /LOG c:\progra~1\Adobe\AdobeReader10.1.2.log"
    2. The REMOVE_PREVIOUS key will work only for the same product. In your case, since a localized version of Reader 10.1.1 is already present, it will not be able to remove the same while installing Reader MUI 10.1.2. Hence, the two entries in the Control Panel.
I guess you can achieve the same by pushing the command for uninstalling any non MUI installations of Reader (msiexec /x <path to Reader 10.1.0 non MUI MSI>). This can be followed by pushing the above mentioned script for deploying the Reader 10.1.2 MUI application.
    3. Also, since you are using the No Reboot switch which must be suppressing any and all reboot prompts. But are you ensuring that the system is restarted post any update? It might be the case that some files may be locked and would be needing a restart for them to be properly updated. This may be causing the browser issue as you had stated.
Do let me know if this helps.

  • Reader 10.0.0 MUI Patch Upgrade Sequence

I wanted to confirm my understanding of the Reader MUI patch sequence is correct.Lets say I have a bootstrapper installation that contains the  base version 10.0.0.  My understanding is that in order to get Reader to the most current version I need to install the 10.1.0 patch and then the 10.1.3 patch. For example 10.0.0>10.1.0>10.1.3. Are these the correct patches that need to be installed to ensure Reader is fully up to date?

I didnt really have to pick apart the 10.1 MUI download, the only download available is a bootstrapper that looks like its just a base 10.0 install that includes the 10.1 mui patch. The setup.ini in that download contains "PATCH=AdbeRdrUpd1010_MUI.msp"  and I added the 10.1.3 mui patch to that line (aka chained them together) "PATCH=AdbeRdrUpd1010_MUI.msp;AdbeRdrUpd1013_MUI.msp". If this isnt supported then what is the supported method for installing the most current up to date version of Reader MUI? The only other option I can think of is manually executing AdbeRdrUpd1013_MUI.msp  after the bootstrapper completes, which I believe is pretty much the same thing.
Here are the details of the MUI download which may help explain what I mean when I say the 10.1 MUI installation isnt just an MSI installation, its a bootstrapper that installs the 10.1 MUI msp:

    EDIT:Adding another question
Here is something else that is throwing me off about the MUI version. The localized 10.1.3 update requires 10.1 or later to be installed, however the MUI 10.1.3 update only requires 10.0 to be installed. Does this mean the 10.1.3 MUI update is cumulative all the way to 10.0? I know the documentation states that the localized version updates are cumulative to the last msi (major)  but it says nothing about MUI updates (that I can find). Even on the non-ftp download pages it states different requirements for MUI and non MUI (see below). If the 10.1.3 MUI update is not cumulative all the way back to the base 10.0, then shouldnt there be a requirement for 10.1 MUI to be installed prior?
    10.1.3 MUI: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5359
    INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
This update requires that Adobe Reader 10.0 MUI or later is installed on your system.
    10.1.3 Localized (non-mui):http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5358
    INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
This update requires that Adobe Reader non-MUI 10.1.1 or 10.1 is installed on your system.

  • Adobe Reader 10.1.2 MUI Silent Uninstall

I am in the process of updating our entire organization to Adobe Reader XI, and am unable to remotely uninstall Adobe Reader 10.1.2 MUI from end user workstations silently. What MSIEXEC, or other, command can I use to accomplish this?

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.04 SCUP update causing SCCM 2007 SP2 R3 client to crash

When we started deploying the 11.0.0.4 update for Adobe Reader provided for System Center Updates Publisher (SCUP), we started having failures with our Operating System Deployments. When the 11.0.0.4 update installs during the Install Software Updates (via WSUS) step, it stops the SCCM client, causing the SCCM client to crash and uninstall. When the SCCM client uninstalls, it breaks the OSD process and the image process fails. Our current .wim file has Adobe Reader 11.x patched to the 11.0.0.3 level. We are using SCUP 2011. Everything was working ok until this update came out. We even tried creating an SCCM software distribution package to deploy the update and it still crashes the SCCM client when installed that way. Has anyone seen similar issues in their SCCM environments? Does Adobe have a support number available to get help with these types of issues? Thanks.

Try using the Adobe doc:  1   Introduction — Enterprise Administration Guide
Also, you'll find installing and updating via bootstrapper is easier than AIP over the long haul.

  • Adobe Reader 10.1.3 MUI error 1321

I posted this in the enterprise forum but have not had any luck getting a response so I'm reposting it here to see if I have any luck.
I am currently deploying Adobe Reader 10.1.3 MUI and I am seeing several machines fail the installation and report error 1321 (permissions issues). This is an issue because the installer removes the previous version of Reader and fails to install 10.1.3 which leaves the machine without Reader and results in impact to the end user.  If I re-run the installation there is a good chance it will report a different file with permission issues, in other words its not always the same file it reports permission issues with. Regardless, I have manually confirmed the permissions and owner on the files and all parent folders are correct but the installer will still report permission issues. I see this on Windows 7 SP1 x64  and Windows XP SP3. The easiest way to get Reader to install succesfully is by running the installation over and over until it passes (you dont even have to make any changes to the machine, just kick it off until it installs succesfully). With all of this in mind I suspect the root cause to be  Mcafee's real time scanning, my guess is that it is locking the file when its scanning and when Adobe's installer attempts to modify the file it fails because it is locked or in use by Mcafee. Usually, I would test this by disabling Mcafee and kicking off the installer however I am not able to do this due to security reasons. I have tried running procmon to see exactly whats accessing the files at that time but everytime I start procmon the installation will randomly pass and I cant reproduce the issue if procmon is running. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to help determine if it is in fact Mcafee causing the issue? Or possibly another suggestion as to what the root cause could be?

I was able to resolve this. See http://forums.adobe.com/message/4895858#4895858

  • Can't open PDFs/uninstall program Adobe Reader (11.0.08) MUI

I can't open PDFs, can't uninstall program, I have Adobe Reader (11.0.08) MUI (I don't know what MUI is...), help! I have tried numerous times to uninstall and change the program. Every time I try to do this, a window comes up saying that files are open (Adobe Reader) and to either retry or close. I can do neither, so I'm unable to uninstall the program. I've never had anything like this happen to me. I scanned my computer for viruses, malware, etc. and nothing came up. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just try to download the software from the Adobe site and see what happens?
    Thanks, Tracy

Assuming you are in Windows (which you haven't said), you can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.
And I think it is Multilanguage User Interface...

  • Vista shows Acrobat Reader 7 needs to be updated

When I go to Vista problem reports it shows that Acrobat Reader 7 needs to be updated as it is incompatible with Vista.
When I go to Uninstall Programs, it shows that I have Adobe Reader 9 installed. But at the top of the list there is an item that is called Acrobat.com. I'm wondering what that is? It appears to be a web site so why is it in my programs list?
Can anyone explain this to me?
    Thanks

The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility will not remove your remaining Flash 9 OCX file; it won't probably even see Flash 9 anymore, as it had been (partially) removed.
There seems to be some kind of ownership problem with that file, that prevents you from deleting it. There are various tools on the Internet that allow you to assume ownership over a file, also some force-delete tools. Check Google.
The best way (for future Flash Player major updates, e.g. from 10 to 11) is to uninstall the thing, then do a new install instead of an upgrade. That should get rid of all associated files.
When I started using Secunia I found Flash 6, 7, 8 remains, and also very old Shockwave stuff. I use the uninstall method now for these players.

Adobe Reader XI keeps prompting to update to version 11.0.3 even though the installed version is already 11.0.3.
How can I stop this unnecessary update prompting occurring?

Thanks for the response Stacy and Bill.
The link to disable updates is giving a 404 error and if I go to the Knowledgebase link and search for “disable automatic updates | acrobat, reader” I just get links to forum threads.
I have attached a snip of my Check for updates preference. I don’t want to go for the no notification option and I don’t trust the auto download options given that I keep getting so many notifications that the same update is available as the version I have: I fear that would simply continuously download the same update over and over.
I’ll try the link you gave me again later to see if I can reach that page.
    Thanks again,

  • Secunia Software Inspector Reporting Adobe Reader 8.1.2 Security Update 1 Missing

After deploying Adobe Reader 8.1.2 Security Update 1 to all of our managed computers, I ran a vulnerability scan using Secunia Software Inspector (http://secunia.com/software_inspector) and it is reporting that Adobe Reader is insecure (it is version 8.1.0.137) and references Secunia advisory SA30832 (http://secunia.com/SA30832). Specifically it reports that C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe is version 8.1.0.137, which it is. However, running Adobe Reader and selecting Help \ About Adobe Reader 8... from the menu reports that Adobe Reader is version 8.1.2. And selecting Help \ Check for Updates... from the menu reports "There are no updates available at this time." Shavlik NetChk also does not report Adobe Reader 8.1.2 Security Update 1 as missing.
The security bulleting from Adobe (http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb08-15.html) does not contain sufficient information to know if the security update has been correctly applied (there is no manifest of files with versions and dates to check).
It appears to me that the file C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe is not sufficient to determine the version of the installed Adobe Reader, that the update to Adobe Reader 8.1.2 does not update the version of this file, and that Adobe Security Update 1 does not update this file. Therefore, I suspect that Secunia Software Inspector is incorrectly reporting that Adobe Reader is vulnerable. However, without details from Adobe about what file are updated and what versions they should be, I cannot be sure.
How can I be sure that Adobe Reader is not vulnerable (it is fully up-to-date)?

July 9 2008 When I run secunia inspector I am still getting a message that I have an earlier version of Adobe Reader installed though I have 8.1.2 including the security update for 8.1.2 installed. Here is what I get:
    (quote)
This installation of Adobe Reader 8.x is insecure and potentially exposes your system to security threats!
The detected version installed on your system is 8.1.0.137, however, the latest secure version released by the vendor, fixing one or more vulnerabilities, is 8.1.2.215.
    Update Instructions:
Update to Adobe Reader 8.1.2.215 and apply Security Update 1.

Your problem has nothign to do with your installation of Mavericks. I assume you are referring to your SuperDrive not being able to read any discs, is that correct? If so then please advise what troubleshooting steps you have taken?

  • Why don't the Adobe Acrobat 10.1.6 and Adobe Reader 9.5.4 patches update the version on the exe file

Why don't the Adobe Acrobat 10.1.6 and Adobe Reader 9.5.4 patches update the version on the exe file ? My vulnerability reports show these installations are not patched when they really are.

    Hi All,
I also facing the same issue with Adobe reader 9.5.4 version update.
    Previous Version installed: 9.5.3
    AcroRd32.exe - File Version 9.5.3.305
    AcroRd32.dll - File version 9.5.3.305
After update installation to 9.5.4, add or remove program shows latest version but exe and dll is not updated. Vulnerability assessment tools based on file version check identifies patch is still missing. Becomes a HEAD ACHE.
Adobe Reader 9 > Help > About Adobe Reader 9 - First shows version 9.5.4, if your click on it instead of showing AGM version next it shows version 9.5.3.305.
I tested for all previous versions of 9x, works fine in each update. Seems like patch is missing codes for updating file versions.
    Waiting for an acknowledgement.

  • Adobe Reader XI 11.0.09 Update broke image signatures

I allowed my computer to download and install the latest Adobe Reader XI update, to version 11.0.09. Since doing that, I can no longer sign PDFs. Adobe Reader "forgot" my signature, and prompts me to create a new one, but gives me an error when I try to do so.
The steps I take: I click on Fill & Sign at the upper right. From the Fill & Sign Tools pane, I choose Place Signature. Since Adobe Reader has forgotten my signature, I am prompted by a dialog box that starts with How would you like to create your signature?. I tick the Use an image radio button, then click the Browse... button that appears below it. I choose my signature, which happens to be a BMP file, and click the Open button. Adobe Reader then gives me an error message: This file cannot be used to create a signature. Please select a different file and try again.
I tried converting my BMP file to a TIFF file, but that didn't help.
I need to be able to sign PDF documents again. Is this a bug waiting for a fix, or is there a work-around?
I badly need this feature back again.

Hi, thanks for your prompt responses.
I am a bit perplexed. I take it that, although I have the latest Adobe Reader XI (11.0.10) installed with the latest update 32 and I can open it  and use it to read PDF's it is not the correct version for Vista ? As I said when I used the Firefox plug in check, which triggered this whole issue for me, and clicked the red button to update it took me to an Adobe update install page which only offered the 10.1.4 English UK for Windows download (Which you say is actually the correct version for Vista) but this did not complete because it said I have a more functional version already installed which I presume is the 11.0.10 version ?
Do I now need to download the Adobe Reader 'Full Download':  Adobe Reader MUI 10.1 - Multiple Languages version 146.67 MB 6/8/2011 or just the Adobe Reader 10.1.4 update, although I may find that I just get the same result as I do using the Firefox update button, it does not complete and I am informed I have a more 'functional version' installed ? Again there are two options for these Updates on the Adobe download page 'All languages' and 'Multi lingual (MUI) installer' and I am not sure what the difference is or , more important, which to use  and the Help>About Adobe Reader offers no clue.
Further advice appreciated as I am a bit flummoxed ! Thanks  .
