Reader 11.0.10: won't save file open history.

Adobe Reader 11.0.10 Windows shows a blank recently opened file list after it's closed and relaunched, every time, on the splash screen, the menu list, and on "View All".  100% repeatable.  AR 11.0.09 and before were fine, the problem started with the .10 update.
On two different machines, one W7, one W8.1, both x64, running as administrator, both machines with Acrobat Pro 11.0.10 also installed.  Pro 11 is fine, it sees the file history properly.  Both programs set to more than zero in the recently used file list preferences.  Files references are present in the registry hive, but only Pro can see them, apparently.

Sadly no. And strange thing is that only this pdf file have problem with saving sigh...even if I told him to send again still can't save this file...my classmate doesn't have this problem  :I for this pdf...but only me specifically on this pdf...it go cray cray (crazy)

I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week, Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.
The file name has no special character in it, just letters and no spaces.
I have done this in the past and it has worked, but now it will not.
I have not upgraded any software, that I am aware of.
After scanning, the Image Capture pops up the Scan Results with the file name in the window, but neither the Scan Results nor the Image Capture window responds to inputs.  The Image Capture window is frozen, with only the "Overview" and "Cancel" buttons active (but non-responsive).
Is this a software issue or a scanner hardware issue?  I am using a HP Photosmart C6200 series printer/scanner on a network using a Time Capsule airport.
    Thanks.

    I had the same problem.
Got a 90% fix.  Apparently the Mavericks preferences won't work with Yosemite, so I just deleted the Image Capture preferences.
Unfortunately, the "Scan to" folder seems to be permanently set to the Pictures folder.
    1.  Quit Image Capture
    2.  Go to Finder > Go > Home, which opens up your home folder (named after your user name)
    3.  Open Library > Preferences > com.apple.ImageCapture.plist - Drag this file to the Trash
    4.  Start "Image Capture", click "Details" and change all your settings as you prefer
    5.  Quit and restart "Image Capture".   Notice it remembers all your settings except "Scan to" folder.  It insists on saving to "Pictures".
That's as far as I was successful.  I tried changing the "Scan to" folder to "Desktop", but on launch, Image Capture always sets it back to "Pictures".
    This is what I tried:
    6.  Download and install "Pref Setter" from http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
    7.  Quit "Image Capture".  Right-click on "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist" and open with Pref Setter.
    8.  Search for "Pictures", which finds "~/Pictures" (the tilde character at the start means your home directory).
    9.  Double-click on "~/Pictures" and change it to the folder you prefer.  I like "~/Desktop"
    10. Choose File > Save then Quit from Pref Setter.  Note that re-opening the plist file still shows "~/Desktop"
    11. Start up "Image Capture" -- on startup, "Image Capture" sets "Scan to" folder to "Pictures"
    I consider this a bug.

  • Numbers 3.0 won't save files!

Numbers 3.0 suddenly won't save files on my Macbook Pro.
I opened a .csv file, made some changes in Numbers, and tried to Save to my desktop.  I get a window that says "The file '[filename].numbers' couldn't be opened".
I tried to Export to a .xls file, and also Share>Send a Copy>Email and chose Excel as the option.  Same message about not being able to open the file.
This makes Numbers totally unusable for me.  And for some reason, the old version of Numbers is suddly gone, so no fallback there anymore.
    Any tips?

And for some reason, the old version of Numbers is suddly gone, so no fallback there anymore.
    Hi Oslo,
Numbers 3 exports to Excel fine on my machine, though it uses the extension .xlsx not .xls.
    Same with Share>Send a Copy>Email. Works fine.
So maybe you should try closing Numbers 3 and reopening it, or restarting your Mac.
Your old version of Numbers should still be on your Mac, in a subfolder within Applications named iWork '09 or similar.

  • InDesign CC for Mac won't save file

I've been using InDesign CC and working on a document for over a month. Been saving it in Creative Cloud. Have had no problem opening it, making changes and then saving it. Today I opened, made changes and the file will not save. I've tried saving it down and opening in Indesign 6 and it still won't save. I also cleared InDesign preferences and reinstalled InDesign. Still won't save when I open it up. The strange part is I'm able to open on another computer through Creative Cloud and am able to work on it and save back to Creative Cloud. No matter what I do I can't open and then save on the original computer.

Finally discovered the problem. It was a PDF of an ad I received from an agency. Once I took it out of the document I was able to save as usual. Thanks for your help!

  • After AW 6.0 update to 6.2.9 won't Save files

After updating Apple Works 6.0 to 6.2.9, the updated program will not allow me to save any files. After choosing my Macintosh HD as the "save to" location, I am unable to Save. Instead, a small wndow appears stating "Cannot find volume." I had previously been running AW 6.2.9 for a long time, but had to reformat my HD recently and re-loaded AW 6.0, then tried my 6.2.9 update when this problem surfaced. I tried UNINSTALLING these and re-installing several times, but I always have the same problem now. I also have to force quit AW most of the time. However, the OS9 version runs fine and saves fine, no problems with it. Help!!

Thanks Peggy for your prompt suggestions. I went ahead and used Disk Warrier to rebuild my HD. I also used Disk Utility to repair Permissions. I also trashed preferences from AW for both systems 9 and 10. Same problems! I re-installed AW from the beginning. Same problems! I also find I cannot open any of my AW files directely- a dialog says "file is locked or in use" and "open a copy." When I open a copy, it still won't Save! I went to Get Info- all my AW files have "read only" and the owner is "unknown." I clicked the locked padlock on unknown, unlocked it, reset it to my normal owner name for the computer, changed the file to "read and write" and clicked "open all files with this application" also. It will the open that one file without asking me to open a copy. But still won't Save. And all my other AW files are still set to "unknown" and are still padlocked in the "read only" mode. What the heck do you think happened here? This was after I had the Apple Store help me to reformat a copy of my HD because it had frozen one day and couldn't be retrieved with Disk Utility or Disk Warrier. They couldn't tell me why this had happened. All of my other applications are just fine. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Mark Schubert, Phoenix, AZ

  • InDesign CC Won't Save File

    Running InDesign 9.1
    Mac 10.8.5
I have been using InDesign CC just fine with no issues. I have one file that I have edited for at least a couple of months and have had no issues. All of a suddent today, it won't save. It has all the options to save, but never will actually save. A co-worker can open and save it with no issue, but now I can't. Any thoughts?

It's a known issue that you can have problems saving an InDesign file if you've dragged and dropped from the Finder or from Adobe Bridge.  It's expected that there will be an update to fix this and other performance issues before too long.
In the meantime, using File > Place instead of drag-and-drop.

  • ACR won't save files other than in original file folder.

This has just started.  All was fine until now.  I recently was working on several files in camera raw.  Went to save files but discovered that I am unable to save the image, no matter what file format I choose -- TIFF, PSD or JPG -- unless I put it in the original folder it came from.  For example, I would choose Save Image from ACR, then Save in New Location, then Select Folder, choose another file folder (say Desktop) and then it would try to save it but would tell me the file could not be created.  If I choose Save in Same Location, everything works fine.  I AM able to open the RAW file in Photoshop and Save it from there.  As I said this is happening all of a sudden.  I am working with Vista 64 bit and with Photoshop 64 bit.  I tried using the 32 bit program but the same thing happens.  Any suggestions or should I just completely uninstall and reinstall?  I have checked and have all the latest updates for both Photoshop and ACR.  Thanks.

    Hi Gingerdee1,
    Yes strange ....
-Do you have the right privelige to save at an other location..... >>privelige-user .... or..... >>folder-protection (read-only)... >> or network privelige changed
-Is that disc full maybe at that location....
-Do you try to save a file with illegal characters in the file name...
    -Working with other RAW-files.............
-Did you change any other situation....than before...

  • Word 2007 won't save files with Acrobat Pro 9.0 Installed

Last night an issue started occurring while trying to save a document in MS Word 2007 (part of an Office Ultimate install).  After about 10 hours of trying several suggestions from a variety of forums and MS suggestions I found that the only time I cannot save a file by traditional means is when Acrobat is installed.  I tried updating Acrobate and had the same thing happen.  MS says all that's left for me to do is get an answer from Adobe (I have to wonder if it's a copout).
    Steps taken so far:
Disabled the PDF add-in - still unable to save Word files
Removed PDF add-in - still unable to save Word files
Removed entire CS4 suite - Word was able to properly save files
Installed only the parts of the suite that I use frequently (Photoshop, Soundbooth, Premiere, Acrobat) - unable to save Word files
Removed Acrobat Pro 9.0 - Word saves files properly again
When I say it will not save a file I've tried the keyboard shortcuts for Save/Save As, Choosing the Save/Save As from drop down, and even attempted to save by closing the document.  When prompted with the option to save changes I say yes and nothing will happen, I have to close the document with nothing saved.
I hate the idea of reinstalling Acrobat each time I need to use it to keep Word functional.  I've seen a ton of threads on other forums related to this issue.  Has anybody else seen this or know about a fix/work around?  Any help is appreciated.  Please let me know if additional detail is necessary.
The operating system for the affected computer is Windows 7 32-bit.

I installed each update individually (6 of them) and rebooted after each update.  Opened Word and attempted to save a document (after each update/reboot), the documents still cannot be saved (previously created documents still cannot have new detail saved).
Decided to delete the Office folder in the following path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\PDFMaker\Office
Opened up word and Acrobat went through an installation processes, to replace what was removed I assume.  After this was done I attempted to save a document and was still unable to do so.  Went back and deleted that Office folder in the above path again.  When opening Word this time I cancelled the installation process that Adobe was trying to complete.  Preventing the install of the settings and PDF add-in allowed documents to be saved again in word.
I decided to try to remove the innactive add-in from my Word Options and received the following error message:
"The connected state of Office Add-Ins registered in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE cannot be changed"
Due to my deleting that folder?
I suppose I could cancel that installation that initiates each time I open Word (or any other Office program that benefits from Acrobat Add-ins) but that will be a bit of an annoyance.
Anybody have another suggestion, know what may need to be deleted from the registry to prevent the Add-ins installation when opening Word, or know where that setting can be changed?
Hopefully getting close to a resolution

  • LT won't save files

I recently had to re-install FCP 4.5, and now LT 1.2 will not save files. I open a previous file, re-type, click "save as" and nothing happens. I am using OS 10.4.11 on a Mac Pro (intel chip).
    "open" function doesn't work either.
    Thank you.
Message was edited by: Mark Barroso

Re-installed LT and it still doesn't work. I downloaded the Pro App 4.0.2 software and installed it but when I check the software profile it says "ProKit 2" and ProKit 4.5 (Leopard)". I'm running Tiger, so should I delete the one for Leopard? Will this matter?
Can I install LT 2.0 as a standalone application to work with FCP 4.5, QT 7.2 and Tiger?
Any and all ideas on why I can't save files are appreciated.

  • Why won't .mp4 file open in QT 10.0 (or iMovie'09) and OS 10.6.8?

I'm trying to edit some .mp4 movie files, but I can't open them in Quicktime (10.0 or 7.6.6), or iMovie '09 (8.0.6) or Final Cut Express (4.0.1).  I've got a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).  When I try to open the file in QT 10, it says "The document “name.mp4” could not be opened"; whereas in QT 7 it says "The file could not be opened.  An invalid sample description was found in the movie."  In iMovie, the file is greyed out when I try to import it.
The file will open and play fine in VLC, but I can't do the editing I want there.  The Media Information pane in VLC says: the codec is "H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10)(avc1)", it is HD resolution (1920 x 1080), it has a frame rate of 59.940060, and the Decoded format is "Planar 4:2:0 YUV".  It also has an audio track (MPEG audio) and a subtitle track.  I also tried opening these .mp4 files on two Mac laptops that a friend of mine has.  Interestingly, they would not open on one (I think running Lion with QT 10.0), but they DID open on the other newer laptop (running Mountain Lion with QT 10.2).
I first assumed it was just a case of not having the right codec.  So I tried copying all the codecs from the Mac laptop that *could* open them, but that didn't work.  Then I searched for and downloaded codecs that I might be missing, such as "avc1Decoder.dmg" from MyCometG3 and http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/23875/avc1decoder, and x264Encoder 1.2.27 also from MyCometG3, and I put them in my Library/Quicktime folder and restarted Quicktime, but neither solved the problem.  I also tried opening the .mp4 files in MPEG Streamclip (1.9.2), but it says "File open error: unrecognized file type".  When I tell it to "open anyway" it tries and then says "File open error: can't find video or audio tracks".
I tried opening one of these .mp4 files in Handbrake (0.9.8) and it was able to open and convert the file to an .mp4 that is then openable in QT 10 with a format of H.264, AAC, and a reduced frame rate of 29.84.  However, this doesn't seem like a good solution because it takes about 2 hours to convert a file with 30 minutes of video.  I just want to be able to trim these big files down to some short video clips that are in an accessible format.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.  Am I missing the right codec?  Or, as I'm beginning to wonder, is this format one that is too demanding for OS 10.6.8 and QT 10 and they just cannot handle it no matter what codecs I have on my computer (because of the 60 fps frame rate?  Or is it the subtitle track?).  Or is the solution to upgrade my operating system to Mountain Lion (10.8) and QT 10.2?  My 15" MacBook Pro is about 2 years old with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 and 4 GB of RAM (1067 MHz DDR3).  Thanks.

Wow! A lot of ifs, ands, and maybes here.
To start off with, these messages and/or inability to opent/import files could stem from either security updates that see something in the file that it interprets as a possible breach of file integrity or the inclusion of data not expected in the associated file type while missing codecs are either identified and load but do not display or refuse to load but issue a message to that effect and possibly asking if you want to visit a web page containing codes you may want to add.
In the future, could you be more specific when describing the file contents. For the moment, I will assume the video is H.264 (MPEG-4/AVC) and the audio is AAC (MPEG-4) audio and not MPEG-1 layered audio. (I.e., while the former is to be expected with the MP4 file extension, some apps can "stuff" incompatible data into an MP4 container or users can manually change the file extemsion.) It also important to know if the "subtitle" track is embedded within the file or is contained in a separate file. (I.e., a screen capture of the media "info", "inspector", or "properties" window is usually the least ambiguous way to track content information.) It would also be nice to know if the VLC frame rate is for progressive or interlaced video if possible.
Basically, some apps are very touchy about file extensions and track content. iMovie '08, for instance, will not open a file containing extraneous tracks like 'tween, text, chapter, etc. embedded within the file. I assume this may also be true for "subtitle" tracks as far as your Snow Leopard players are concerned. In any case, if your version of the QT 7 player is keyed for "pro" use, I would perform a simple test here by deleting the "subtitle" track, saving the file, and then re-trying to load, open, play, and/or import the file in the various applications currently giving you problems. If this fixes the problem, then you will know the source and solution of your problem
The indiscriminant installation of additional codecs often creates more problems than it solves owing to the logrithmic increased potential for the introduction of QT codec component conflicts. The normal "rule of thumb" here is to identify a missing codec and to then install only that specific codec component. Even then, there is a possibility that there may be a conflict but at least it is more easily identified so you can better evaluate which of the conflicting codecs to leave installed and which to swap only when needed/required. As to the use of MPEG Streamclip, it basically uses your system's QT component configuration of access of most codecs as opposed to VLC and HandBrake which contain their own, built-in codec support. So if QT is having a problem, it is often likely that MPEG Streamclip will also have problems.
The HandBrake workflow forces a recompressing of the file data which is why it takse so long. That is why I suggested you try deleting any extraneous data tracks found in the source MP4 file container using QT 7 Pro and then use the "Save" or "Save As..." option to re-write the original audio and video data to a new MOV file container which takes much less time.
Probably not. The VLC reported data rate may either indicate the MP4 content is AVCHD/BD sourced or it is reading interlaced content as progressive which I have noted it can do on occasion when I compare the media info as read by various different apps and/or utilities. Since you indicate the file opens in Mountain Lion, my guess would be that your MP4 content is actually AVCHD/BD sourced since such support was only recently added to Mac OS X v10.8 software. As to moving up to Mountain Lion, as always, that is something you would have to evaluate for yourself. For instance, do you require PNG compression for video content? By default you would lose it under Mountain Lion and have to re-enable it manually if needed. Are there other pros and cons that you need to consider before upgrading to Mountain Lion? These are the types of questions and compatibility issues that only you can answer for yourself.

  • Pdf save file open file

Since firefox just recently updated, .pdf files when clicked, either on email or the web would pop open a box that says save file or open file. Firefox updated and it no longer ask this anymore, it just immediately tries to download it. I don't use any .pdf add on through Firefox, I tried one today but it still doesn't help. Is there a way to turn this basic function back on without a add-on. It has never needed one before.
    Thanks.

I was making all the changes to the Adobe Acrobat files and didn't see the one lower down called portable document format, once I changed it to ask first it now operates how it should. Thanks for the help everyone.

  • Keynote won't save file

Everything has been working great with Keynote until last night when the program would not allow me to save my file.
It actually shows up in the finder when I save as a new name, however it won't open and says the file is corrupt.
    Powerbook G4 15 Titanium DVI   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Were those red-green backgrounds a result of the crash? (Sorry very rude of me teacher, lol)
My immediate suggestion, especially if you are on a deadline is to carve the file up into a few new files. Make new blank files, assign your 'custom' theme and then drag in 1/3 of the slides from the original file. If presenting one file can link to the next with a hyperlink. If generating a DVD just make a few chapters from your few files. That's if this is an overload on system resources or Keynote's internal memory buffering from number of images. 125 slides is not a big deal, and neither is 350MB of media.
There's a ten myths of Mac problems list somewhere and repairing permissions is on it.
If trying to isolate a problem image there's an old process where you halve your test items (I used to do this with fonts but in your case it's slides or images) test both halves. Find the problem half that causes the crash and then halve it again. Repeat until you get to the problem file(s).
    Good luck for Monday.

  • Photoshop CS2 won't save files in JPEG format

I have Windows Vista and am using Photoshop CS2 Version 9.
Until today everything was working fine, but there are two problems.
    1. Only today I have a limited amount of formats to save a .PSD file in:
PSD, CIN, PDF, RAW, PNG, and TIFF.
Whereas if I want to save a JPEG file per say as another format, I get the full list to choose from.
    2. If I choose a layer on an image, not all the filters show up that I can run it through. The 'Artistic, Brush Strokes, Pixelate, Sketch, and Stylize' are not clickable.
    Thank you.

You slipped into 16 bit mode. Try going back to 8 bit.

  • Photoshop CS3 won't save files as ".png"?

I have the same problem as the creator of this thread...
    http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080417004746AAjYbui
...except, his solution did not work for me. In Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Mac, I cannot "Save For Web". The button is there, but it is disabled for some reason...
I have the image in RGB Mode as everyone says it should, and have kept it in 8bt resolution. I can save everything as ".psd", ".jpg", and many other files - but not ".png". It simply does not appear in the drop-down menu when I select "File - Save As".
Also, people have mentioned an "Alpha layer" or "Alpha channel", but I do not know what those are.
Please advise on how I can fix this without having to reinstall, if possible.
    Thanks!

Check the bit depth and color mode of the document.
And check that the plugins are installed.

  • Migrated to new lion iMac now excel won't save files?!

We got a new iMac with Lion installed. I used the migration tool to migrate everything from the older iMac, running Snow Leopard. Now when I work in Excel (2011) it will not let me save any files. I have checked permissions all over the place and there are no locks or passwords. I would toss the preferences file to start over, but for some reason I can't even see HD/user/preferences to go in and do that. InDesign CS5 just launches and quits, so I was going to trash the prefs for that since the other CS5 apps work, but again no folder to be found.
I have not been this frustrated with an Apple system upgrade, ever! I feel like I just bought a MS system. All of a sudden I see no system folder, no prefs folders, I am suddenly locked out of my own system and unable to take actions to fix things I have always been able to take. What gives? I need these things to work, and if I could go backwards to leopard I would but you can't.

Apple has been making their OS (and their pro apps) a lot like iMovie where they think you are a moron, and their system will never have problems so there is no need to go into the Library folder in your user folder, no need to have a Save/Revert (Final Cut Pro X eliminated this), etc.
    To show your Library folder:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/22/access-user-library-folder-in-os-x-lion/
Did you update your apps? Make sure you have the latest updates, besides trashing the preferences.
BTW, I hate Safari 6, so if you have Safari 5, keep it. (They eliminated the Activity Monitor and made tabs go across the entire screen instead of being...tabs)
Apple makes their dough with iPhones and iPads, now, and they want the Mac experience to be as dumbed-down as those consumer devices. I think this is a mistake.
