Reader 11.0.2 does not automatically launch upon download of .pdf file

My OS is Windows 7, my browser is Firefox 19.0.2. It used to be that when I downloaded a .pdf file, Adobe Reader would launch automatically and display the text, ready to read. Now the Reader no longer launches automatically; I have to go to the Tools > Downloads list and double-click on the desired file before the Reader will open it. I can't recall if this problem started when I upgraded the Reader to 11.0.2. I've uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled and rebooted again - no luck. Can anyone advise? Thanks.

You can control how Firefox handles each type of file by going into Firefox > Preferences > Applications.
Please find Portable Document Format from the list and select Adobe Reader as an application.

Adobe Acrobat Add-On 11.0.6.70 will not allow me to download a .pdf file. Disabling the Add-On allows me to download the .pdf.

I attempted to download a .pdf file and open it with Adobe Add-On 11.0.6.70 in FF 25.0.1 and got a message that the file was damaged and could not be repaired. I called the site's Tech Support and they requested that I try the download with another (Ugh!) browser and the download worked. I went back and disabled the Adobe Add-On in FF and the download worked in FF also. Not sure who developed the Add-On but whoever did so, left a bug in the process.

Please update to the latest version of Firefox by going to the About Firefox in the Firefox menu. If downloads hang at the last minute (just before reaching 100%), the cause might be antivirus software which tries to scan the file and during that process hangs the Firefox instance. It may also happen when the download becomes corrupt. What I want to know is in the System Requirements what " Firefox Extended Support Release" means.
In order to fix the problem, try disabling the scanning as follows:
# In the [[Location bar autocomplete|Location bar]], type '''about:config''' and press '''Enter'''. The about:config "''This might void your warranty!''" warning page may appear.
# Click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''', to continue to the about:config page. A list of settings should appear
# Filter the list by typing in the search bar at the top. Type in ''scanWhenDone''. You should now find the '''browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone''' preference.
#Double-click on that preference to set the value to ''false''.
#Next, try to download something and see if it still hangs.

Keynote presentation does not automatically play upon open when called from another keynote presentation

I have a master keynote presentation that hyperlinks to other keynote presentations. The called keynote presentations open, but do not automatically play even though I have marked them to automatically play upon open. What am I doing incorrectly?

Automatically Play on open, has the same function as pressing the play button in the tool bar.
Once the presentation is playing, it will move to the next slide depending on
how you have set the options in:
Inspector > Document > Presentation
the choices to advance to the next slide are:
normal           - requires a keyboard press or a muse click to advance
Hyperlink       - requires the mouse to click on an object with a hyperlink
Recorded      - plays back using the recorded narration sound track
Self-playing   - will advance according to the options in the delay times set in
Inspector > Document > Presentation

Adober Reader 8.1.2 will not open new page links to .pdf file

Since upgrading to version 8, I cannot open a pdf file (from IE) if it opens in a new window. It opens local files, and links on pages that go directly to the pdf file, but not if the link opens the file in a new window. This means that I cannot open such things as my VISA statement, etc. What now?
I have Windows XP on a Dell desktop. If it makes any difference, I also have Adobe Pagemaker 7.0 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 loaded on this computer.
I really need this to work.

Nothing showed in the Event Viewer log. However, just to be thorough:
1. I uninstalled reader 6.0.1 and rebooted. (all pdf became unassociated)
2. I deleted any acr*.tmp anywhere on my computer.
3. I deleted The 6.0 folder from the application updates path
4. I deleted the 6.0 folder from my install path.
5. I deleted the Adobe folder from my temp directory.
6. I ran CCleaner, cleaned app files and registry and repeated.
7. I rebooted and repeated step 6.
8. I opened Event Viewer, backed up and cleared all events from the log.
9. I installed 8.1.2 (all pdf became associated with Acrobat Reader)
10. Under Event Viewer/Application the event log displays: Product: Adobe Reader 8.1.2 -- Installation operation completed successfully.
11. Under Event Viewer/System the event log displays: The Windows Installer service entered the stopped state.
12. I tried to launch: the shortcut, a pdf and the exe file.
13. There are no additional events added to any level of the event log.
14. There is no indication of activity from Reader in the Task Manager: Applications or Processes. It never appears in either.
As a final note, I know the 8.1.2 install file is not corrupted because I copied it to another computer where it installed and runs just fine.

Search does not find text string in a PDF file

Some of the PDFs on my company's website have text that does not come up in a search of the PDF. You can see the text on the page, but it's ignored in a search. When I open the PDF and use the Select tool to copy the six-character string, then paste it into the Search field of the open PDF, the string pastes into the Search window as open boxes. While that might explain why the string is not found in the search, I'm confused about why the characters are correct on the PDF page, but not after they are copied and pasted.
Here is an example: Search for this word in the attached PDF file:
control
The search will miss the first occurrence of Control in the first bullet on the page.

Most of the fonts are embedded (except 1), but that does not mean you can search them as mentioned. The simplest way to avoid the problem is to go back to more standard fonts, like Arial, Courier, Times New Roman, and such. You may still have a problem with MAC users where they have Helvetical and Times Roman as standard. However, most of the common fonts have the same character associations and it is likely not a problem.

The Find function does not work with one of my pdf files

I uninstalled whatever version of the reader that had been my computer at installed 11.0.06. Same problem. Seems like the Find function has a problem with just one of my many pdf files.
For the problem file, the PDF Producer was IIPDFLib2.x, version 1.5. Fast Web View: Yes.

I can not select any text, either individual letters or sequences of letters. If I left-click and drag while holding the left button down, I generate a rectangular selection. I can then Ctrl-C the selection and paste it in Word.
So it is a image, with a pdf filename ending rather than jpg or something similar. That probably also explains why the image quality is much worse than with genuine PDF files.

Sandclock does not go away after download of a file

hi !
i am able to download a file properly by getting the open/save dialog box.i am doing this by calling the jsp code from an html page. I have closed all the outputstream properly.but the sandclock does not go away even after downloading of the file.
Can anybody explain why?

onething you can try -> once the file is downloaded add a redirect stat and check ( this is only to test whats happening ) ;

I notice the new version does not automoatically fire up Adobe for PDF files and hence I have had to stop using it. How can I fix this, I use Mac

Firefox will not allow me to download/display pdf files - wheres's the glitch

When I click on a pdf file to download it nothing, zero, happens and I have to switch to IE and start all over to get the pdf file - very incomvenient. I use Norton security software which does a few things to me that I don't like but can't find but since it does not interfere with IE I doubt that it's in Norton so must be fire fox. This is a phenomenon that has just arisen in the last few months or so

Reading PDF files is not Firefox, you can read file external to the browser or with a plugin.
The Download Window closes instantly the download finishes or may not even open at all bring it back with Ctrl+J
You are using Foxit Reader instead of Adobe Reader
make sure it is compatible with Firefox 5 if it is running within Firefox, check their site
or install Adobe Reader unfortunately it comes with Adobe Air
whatever that it, and being adobe you have to watch out for
crapware also being install, McAfee Security Scan, Google Chrome, Adobe Air

Opening PS CS5 does not automatically launch Bridge?

In PS CS3 there was a preference setting to automatically open Bridge when Photoshop was launched.
This setting seems to be absent in CS5.
Is there any way to get both apps to launch simultaneously?

Texting field does not automatically open upon tapping in iOS6?

Hey there,
I've noticed since I upgraded to iOS6 that the field at the bottom of my text message screen, which allows you to input the text message reply, doesn't open when you tap it. Instead, to open it up, I have to swipe from the bottom up.
Is this intentional, or is this something only applicable to my version of the operating system? It's extremely annoying, as when I'm at work it became a natural response to just tap the field and begin replying.

thanks for your work around.
I do not use a mouse click solution because I can not distinguish between a mouse click and a touch on the screen. And I prefer to not launch any on screen keyboard on a mouse click. Especially because the on screen keyboard opens anywhere on the screen and can hide the control. This is especially nasty when there is a physical keyboard (which is probably is connected when a mouse is there).
I could combine the ideas. Clicking in a control could open a VI nearby, which only shows a small keyboard icon. Clicking this icon would start an on screen keyboard (osk.exe, tabtip.exe, a keyboard written in LabVIEW).
But this is reprogramming the existing behaviour of windows, not really funny.
Placing the "Keyboard Icon Button" VI nicely would take some time, but should work because all is in LabVIEW. (It would also open when using the mouse, but only a small icon should be ok.) For not hiding the active control by the on screen keyboard, the task gets hard. (Positioning the TabTip.exe window is not easy, and creating [or adapting] an on screen keyboard in pure LabVIEW brings some other problems.)
Should we vote for Touchpanel-Control-Suite-with-Native-LabVIEW-On-screen-Keyboard or is it different from our needs? (I'd prefer to have the functionality in all control styles, not only in a special "Touch Control" set. But maybe I misunderstand the idea.)

Adobe Reader does not automatically associate with PDF files in Xp Sp3

I have reinstalled Reader (twice) and it does not automatically associate with PDF files.
How do I fix this problem?

The thing is, when I right click a pdf file, and then go to properties, change default program to open with, select browse, I select it in the correct folder, when I click open, it doesnt open and the programs stay blank, so I cant select anything. There is nothing to select. And I have re-installed. But at the end of the install there are no options what file types to associate with. Any way to do it inside Reader?
I have reader 9.2.0. and Win7 up to date. When I'm opening and closing allot of files the whole time, I don't want to do inside reader. Help please?

Adobe does NOT automatically open when attachments are 'clicked'

Thanks for reading this post. When openning a PDF file attachment within an email or a link from a website, Adobe does not automatically launch to view the documents. In fact, the file conversion screen pops up instead when I select the 'open' tab from the attachment. When I click the 'save' option, the save file type only includes HTLM and ALL Files..... this is odd why PDF is not a save type option. Anyway, any assistance to alievate this problem will be helpful. This is very frustration.... I was also wondering if this could be my Norton 360 that is causing these problems....

Bill was suggesting an alternative approach, making this the default setting in distiller. This is a preference settings in Distiller. I don't have Acrobat 9 on my Windows machine, but this is what is looks like on the Mac:
You want to check the View PDF when using Distiller Check box.

LR does not automatically load previews

I use a 5D and a MacBook Pro laptop. I have my source files (RAW files) on an external hard drive. When I return from a shoot I first copy the files to the external harddrive. Then I open LR, right click on the folder in the left panel and select "Synchronize folder". LR perfectly adds the additional images into the database. BUT...
LR does not automatically create previews from the new files. It will only do so when clicking on an image in the film strip. For me it's a problem because I like to take only the laptop with me on the commuter train to work (and leave the external hard drive at home) and then do some selecting while on the train. I cannot select files without a preview.
So... Is there a way to have LR create previews for all images in the database, e.g. by a command?

Thank you Lee and Mike. I found the command in the library menu and it works perfectly. And about using the import feature instead of the synchronise feature: I'm a bit worried about getting the files exactly where I want them and so I always copy them using the finder / file explorer to the exact location I want them in. Then I usually check if there are double instances of the files and if I copied all files from my memory card. As soon as I have it all the way I want it I use the synchronise command in LR and it never fails so far. I know I could import using LR and then I'd have the opportunity to select destination folder and such. However, sometimes I leave the files I transferred to my hard drive on my memory card (as backup) until I dock my laptop at my desk where I can back them up on external storage. So it happens a lot that my memory cards contain files I transferred before and I don't want LR to get mixed up with doubles.
Anyway the synchronise command works best for me so far, especially now you helped me find a way to get all files previewed.
