Reader 11.0 shuts down

When I try to open a .pdf file on my pc with Win 8 a message flashes on the screen that Reader has stopped working and it immediately shuts down. How can I fix this?

Download and run the Adobe Cleaner to completely remove Reader
Download and run the Offline Installer to reinstall

  • Reader Refuses to Shut Down

I encounter a problem (not related to Adobe) and was forced to terminate the download of a file from the internet. Not only would Adobe Reader REFUSE to terminate (close via the "X"Box or Refresh the page), it refused to allow Windows Task Manager to open. As the Adobe file was quite extensive in size, I was forced to shut down the computer to solve the problem, thus loosing all of the information on the other program I was using. Eventually, AFTER I held the computer's "ON" button down for 5 seconds to shut it down, the Task Manager window appeared and informs me that it cannot open due to Computer Shutdown being in progress.

Force quit iPhoto from the -menu > Force Quit menu.
    Ten try again.

  • My reader is totally shut down.

I have had Adobe Reader for quite a few years now.  I have utilized it, mostly in my college studies.  And now, that I am attempting to go back to school, I am finding that I cannot use my reader view or create my pdf files.  I tried to uninstall the program and reinstall it.  But, it stated that I did not have the permission nor the software to do so.  I then looked through my old emails and there was a request for me to change my password because someone had infiltrated my account and corrupted the tool. I have no clue as to how to reinstate the functioning of my reader at this point.  Can you help?  ASAP?

First, Reader cannot create pdf files. Never could. Any problem with your old Reader not being able to read pdf files may be due to old formats, corruption of your Reader installation, virii, and other issues. We need information. What OS are you running? What version and what program are you using: Reader or Acrobat (commercial program that can create pdf files).
How are you trying to open pdf files (in a browser [if so which]), on your computer by double-clicking on the file, through the application itself using File -> Open menu item?

  • Cannot Download Reader 9 - IE 7 Shuts Down

Running Vista (ugh). Everytime I try and download Reader 9 - IE7 shuts down - no message other than IE is closing down. Tried downloading from cnet and the official adobe site. Tried turning off firewall, antivirus, etc. No difference. Don't have any problems downloading any other software from different sites. Is there any place to download an earlier version of adobe reader that will work? Thanks...Michelle

A simple file download should not shut down your browser; if it does, I would suspect some malware infection. Sorry, this forum is not the right place to give you advice on how to handle this.
Try downloading the installer from http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.0/enu/AdbeRdr90_en_US.exe

  • Computer shut down and restart

My HP Pavilion dv4 shuts down and restarts whenever it wants to.  The first warning is that my cd drive will engage then my screen goes black and white writing appears that says  "A problem has been detected with your computer.  Windows has shut down to prevent damage to your ......"  This is all I can read before it shuts down.  Even when the computer is in sleep mode this happens.  Help please.

    Hi @dis_computer ,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I hope you have a great experience with us.
I see that you are computer appears to be randomly shutting down. Without that error message it will be hard to determine the exact cause. If you can get that message that would be great. Even if you video the crash and then pause it when the error comes up.
We can try testing the hardware to see if that is causing the issue. Use the UEFI tools mentioned in this HP document Testing for Hardware Failures, run the System Test – Extensive Test to check all the major hardware components.
Do you notice if the computer is hot when it crashes. If so try cleaning the fan as mentioned in this HP link Reducing Heat Inside the PC to Prevent Overheating.
Also, can I get your product number so I know what we are working with.

  • Cannot shut down

I just purchased my imac last week. I am trying to shut down my computer so I can go to sleep.  Everytime I try to shut it down a window pops up and it reads "can not shut down programs are still operating go to finder."  I have no idea how to fix this so I can shut down my mac can you please help me??

There is a big difference between shutting down your iMac which requires that all applications be quit, and sleeping your computer which keeps everything in its current state with the display off and the rest of the circuitry in power saving mode.
Is there a reason you are trying to shut the system down completely instead of putting it to sleep? If you select shutdown and the system is giving you that prompt the system is indicating that there are applications open that have unsaved documents or open dialog boxes that need attention.
Since you indicated that you bought your iMac last week I am assuming that you are running Mac OS X Lion (10.7.x). If you look at the dock screenshot below some of the applications have a glowing dot below their icon. The dots indicate that the application is open. If you selected shutdown and were not successful just click on the icons with the dots and you'll be able to see whether you have an application that needs attention. My personal recommendation is to just put the iMac to sleep so that when you wake up your computer will be ready for your right where you left off simply by pressing a key on the keyboard.

  • KT3 2400XP just shuts down without any reason

    I am desperate.
My system just shuts down as soon as I try to load something in memory.
    It’s a KT7333 ultra 2. The latest bios version an one 512 Mb DDR333.
First I use memt86 to test the mem. It ran 3 times without any errors. So the
    mem is ok I presume.
I set the FSB to 133 and the bios reported a 2400 cpu.
Then I boot a Win98 boot disk en just when the ( dos) startup menu  is
    displayed, the pc shuts down.
This is not random. It happened as well with other settings. Only the
default values “last longer” I mean after a while they cause a shutdown as well..
But when I set the FSB on 133, the pc shuts down.
I have an arctic cooling Copper Silent cooler. It runs at very low RPM's so
I get the alarm of "cooler not working". But I continue, like the website
from arctic-cooling describes. I disable the CPU fan RPM in the bios and
everything works until the system shut's down. When I look in PC health,
the temp never goes above 58 °Celsius, so the cooling should be ok.
After the pc has made a shutdown, I try to restart with the on switch, but
then there is an error, a signal sounds and when I look at the "D-bracket"
It indicates an error. The memory detection test, "Testing onboard memory
size, the D-led will hang if the memory module is damaged or not installed
properly". The led effectively hangs. But when I cut the power on the power
supply, and then enable it again, press the on switch, the entire system
boots without a problem. Just until the shutdown.
Is there another specific memory setting that I can alter?
When I set the BIOS to "high performance setup" the disk doesn’t even have
time to read, the system shuts down earlier. This off course also point into
    a failsafe from the cooling.
    Please help.

    Hi,
It looks to me as your CPU cooler isn't mounted properly....
Take it off, clean everything, regrease and put it on the right way....

  • What can I try next?  Adobe Reader on Mac not working. Repair installation/"shut down running..."

I am trying to fill out a form online which will not open and it says that I should install the latest version of Adobe Reader.
I have downloaded and tried to install Adobe Reader 9.4 on my Mac Book Pro.  (computer software including Safari have been updated)
The form still does not appear on the screen, so I tried have been looking into what is wrong with Reader.  One issue is when I select "about Adobe Plug-Ins" it seems that most of them have not been loaded.  i.e. "Acrobat Accessibility"
Not sure what to do so I selected to "Repair Adobe Reader Installation" and this is what comes up:
"Select the optional components you would like to repair..."
    This is what comes up:
"Adobe PDFViewer Safari Plugin View, fill-in and collaborate on Adobe PDFs within Safari"
I select that and then this message appears:
    "Please shut down running applications
Adobe Reader requires Safari to be closed before it can install or remove the selected components. If you are running Safari, please close the application and then click OK to install selected components or remove unselected components. You may also press Cancel to install the selected components at a later time."
I have closed all running applications that I can think of and the message will not go away after I press "ok".
    What can I try next?

    I tried this:
    Manually uninstalling a plugin
If you can't use an uninstaller program to remove a plugin, you can remove it manually:
In the Location bar, type about:config and press Return.
The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
    Search for the preference: plugin.expose_full_path.
Double-click on the plugin.expose_full_path preference in the list to change the value to true.
''''''''''' '''''Enter about:plugins into the Location bar to display the About Plugins page.
Each entry in the About Plugins page will have "File name:" followed by a path. Navigate to the folder shown for the plugin you want to remove.
Rename the file to something other than its normal name - e.g. npswf32 becomes Xnpswf32''''''''''''''''
Double-click on the plugin.expose_full_path preference in the list on the about:config page to change the value back to false to avoid exposing the plugin path to websites.
    The plugin will be removed.
I can't select the file name to change it. It's just a list.

  • Reader X shuts down when trying to open more than one pdf, or when clicking certain categories in settings

Until a few weeks ago I have never had a problem opening more than one pdf at a time. Now Reader just shuts down when I try to do so. The same thing happens when I click on the yellow highlighted categories in settings. All the other categories open fine.
Appreciate the help of anyone who can help me solve this.

I guess you didn't know, but yes you can close more than one app at a time. You can close up to 3 apps at a time in the new IOS7 on the iPhone. Try opening at least 3 apps and then double click the main button to see what apps are opened. Then swipe to the left to see the three of them on your screen. Your not gonna see the ones on the side entirely but you can still put all three fingers on them, then simply swipe them up and it closes them up.
The thing is, when you have let say 10 apps open, and you start using this trick, some of them will stay open meaning you swiped them up to close them down but the bottom icon stays there. When you come back to your main IOS desktop and then go back to close the programs that you have opened, you can see that those apps are still opened. There is only like 2 or three out of all the 10 you had opened that stayed open, but none the less it's a bug in the system I presume.
You also asked about the icon at the bottom. When you are seeing what apps are opened, there is always a small icon at the bottom and on top you have a representation of what you were working on, and that is the part you swipe up. But often time the bottom icon will stay opened after swiping 2 or 3 of the apps to close them.
