Reader 8.1.2 and Terminal Server (2003)

I have Adobe reader 8.1.2 loaded on a terminal server. Program has been fine until today. When some (not all) users open some (not necessarily all) PDF files, the program terminates without an error being shown.
The server log shows:
Faulting application AcroRd32.exe, version 8.1.0.137, faulting module ADMPlugin.apl, version 3.16.128.32, fault address 0x000a7bf1.
I tried upgrading to Reader 9. But it seemed to do the same thing. Removed Reader, tried to make sure all traces were gone (went through the manual removal), and then reinstalled 8. Still doing this. Any ideas?

Hi jhousen1,
Please provide more information for better analyzation:
1. What error message do you receive in Internet Explorer?
2. Do we have any proxy settings configured in group policy?
Please Check the proxy settings through Internet Options in Windows 8.1, also take a look at the article below:

Is anyone running this config? I'm getting intermittent crashes, and wondering if anyone else has seen the same. We are primarily using Report Builder for non-English reports, but the server's base language is English. Prior to launching Builder, we set the NLS_LANG varaible to the target language, then launch. Most crashes seem to occur in the layout editor.

  • Terminal server 2003 and window7 printer

we have a terminal server 2003 and now added a windows 7 workstation running rdp. all printers except the new hp2025n show in session by loading the printdriver 2020 on the server. How ever on the windows 7 desktop I had to load the 2020 driver for windows 7.  The win7 driver will not load on the server, error this platform not supported. I understand that the 2 drivers have to match for the printer to be used in rdp.  The other printer that come across is a black dell printer with no problems. so the driver is what I suspect is the issue.

  • Which VMware support Windows 7 as Host and Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS

    Folks,
Hello. I need to install PeopleSoft PIA in Windows Server 2003.
Because my laptop is preinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium Editon and cannot dual boot multiple Operating systems. I have to install VMware in Host Windows 7 and then install Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS for PIA.
I have installed VMware Server 2.0.2 into Host Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS. Everything works fine for a while. But VMware Server Home Page https://mylaptop:8333/ui cannot display any more.
I have found that Windows 7 is not a supported Host Operating System for VMware Server 2 and strange thing might happen anytime. I found that "VMware Player 3" is fully supported Windows 7 as Host OS but is not supported Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS.
Does any folks know which VMware product support Windows 7 as Host OS and Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS ?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:
    1.
Ensure the printer is compatible with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 and the drivers are up-to-date.
    2.
    Try the following method:
Printers that use ports that do not begin with COM, LPT,
or USB are not redirected in a remote desktop or a terminal services session
    Hope this helps. Thanks.
    Regards,
    Nicholas Li - MSFT
That doesn't apply to Windows 7 Machines. I'm having the same problem as Acer_, I have a RDP Session from a Windows 7 Machine to a Windows XP machine and the local printer was available a few days ago but isn't anymore. The drivers are installed on both PC's
and are compatible with Windows 7.

  • Tips to install Sap Gui On Windows Terminal Server 2003

Does anybody know any method to install SapGui on Windows Terminal Server 2003 to share it to many users ?
The problem is: when I try to install Sap Gui 6.40 via Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs it tells me that I must change the mode with "change user /install". I dont know the reason why it reports me that if I do it via Control Panel. And if I do that and then I launch the installation again it reports me the warning again.
    What should I do ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    We have SAP R3 4.6C.
We want to optimize the bandwidth in a 802.11b radio. Because of that we dont want to run any application in the hand-held.
We'll intend to launch a remote desktop on a dozen hand-helds connecting the Windows 2003 Terminal Services server. In this server we could run SAP GUI, WebSapconsole or the browser.
Its important to note that the hand-held computers must only show the designed windows (sized to 16x20), removing title bars, transaction bar, menu bars, tool bars, status bars, etc. For this purpouse I think we can use WebSapconsole.
With this method we have noticed that when a error or warning is displayed it hides some part of the screen instead of presenting in the status bar.
I hope you all your doubts are clear now, if not just tell me.
    Thank you.
    PS. Sorry for my english.

  • Application redraw issue over Citrix and Terminal Server

    Hi All,
We provide a client-server application which connects to a SQL Server database. The middle-tier is hosted on an application server (Windows Server 2008 R2) which in turn connects to the SQL Server database. The fat client can either be installed on user laptops/desktops
    or published using Citix/Terminal services.
We have a long standing issue which frankly I just cannot fathom. A customer has published the client via Citrix to users and using roaming profiles. If an employee is using the application in London, the roaming profile is created on a server in London and
connects to the middle-tier in London. If an employee is using the application in Glasgow, the roaming profile is created in Edinburgh and the user connects to the middle-tier in London. The customer is also using DFS
The roaming profile consists of the 'My Documents', 'My Pictures', 'My Videos', 'My Music' and 'Windows' folder. Distributed File System (DFS) is used for roaming profile folder replication between offices. See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc732863%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
The Edinburgh users are experiencing application redraw issue where the interface loads in chunks. For example, when a user scrolls up and down or left and right, the data loads immediately (from SQL Server) but the interface (GUI) loads in blocks. You can
actually see each segment of the GUI components loading. The issue also occurs if connecting via a Terminal Server where the application is also installed.
For London users, it all works fine. If an Edinburgh user comes to London, they have no issues.
The network connection is super fast between the various offices.
The application is built using C++ and Delphi and uses the GDI API to draw the objects.
    Any guidance is appreciated.

    Hello partner,
Thanks for contacting Microsoft. This is Sophia who is going to help with this issue. From your description, I learnt that users from Edinburgh have application redraw issue. However, London users worked fine. Please let me know if I misunderstand your purpose.
Based on the information, it seems that the issue located in the middle-tier in London. Could you try building a middle-tier in Edinburgh and then test how the issue goes?
Besides, based on my experience and research, by default the allocation of the bandwidth is 70 percent for graphics data and 30 percent for virtual channel data, meaning when bandwidth usage is under pressure, graphics data is guaranteed to get 70 percent
of the available bandwidth.  And we can tweak the settings a bit for some scenarios. To change the settings, we can set registry values. Please reference the information below.
    ===========================================================================================================================================
Note: For these settings to take effect, the computer must be restarted.
Following is the list of registry values that affect the bandwidth allocation behavior. These are all DWORD values under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermDD:
    ·         FlowControlDisable: When set to 1, this value disables the new flow control algorithm, making it essentially First-In-First-Out (FIFO) for all packet requests. This provides results similar to Windows Server
2003. (The default for this value is 0).
    ·         FlowControlDisplayBandwidth / FlowControlChannelBandwidth: These two values together determine the bandwidth distribution between display and virtual channels. You can set these values in the range of 0–255.
For example, setting FlowControlDisplayBandwidth = 100 and FlowControlChannelBandwidth = 100 creates an equal bandwidth distribution between video and VCs. The default is 70 for FlowControlDisplayBandwidth and 30 for FlowControlChannelBandwidth, thus making
the default distribution equal to 70–30.
    ·         FlowControlChargePostCompression: If set to 1, this value bases the bandwidth allocation on post-compression bandwidth usage. The default for this value is 0, which means that the bandwidth distribution is applied
    on pre-compressed data.

  • Windows terminal server 2003 cluster

We have a FOG with three Solaris 10 x86 servers, SRSS 4.2, SRWC 2.3 with the latest SRSS 4.2 patches. All Sunrays have the latest firmware.
Kiosk settings points to a windows 2003 terminal server cluster. The two nodes in the windows cluster have latest SRWC 2.0.
The cluster entitles, two terminal servers and a session manager server, we use roaming profiles.
When pointing kiosk settings to the cluster FQDN the sunray sessions are routed to just one server in the windows cluster. But if we RDP to Cluster's FQDN from a regular desktop the windows cluster load balances properly.
I do need help understanding how SRSS handles sessions? specifically if nodes are behind a cluster with session manager. Could it be that the session manager it's incompatible with SRSS in kiosk mode since it tries to route sessions at the mean time SRSS is doing the same task?
    Thanks,

    Hi Estrar,
Short answer: 2003 Session Directory does not do load balancing.
Long answer (to the above and your other questions):
The Sun Ray Server doesn't do anything with regards to load balancing the windows sessions. To the Sun Ray Server, or more appropriately the windows connector, it's just making the connection you tell it to.
With regards to the windows client "working", am I correct in guessing that you ran subsequent instances of MS-RDC to "prove" that it worked?
Most likely what happened there is that the PC, thus MS-RDC, received different IP addresses back from DNS for the FQDN with each launch. This is basically round robin, not load balancing. But I'd have to understand how you've done the FQDN of the cluster in DNS.
The most common initial reaction is that the DNS server is setup incorrectly (I'll plead guilty that I've had the same reaction). It is true that some DNS servers can be configured will return the same IP on the first dns query. This is called a cyclic ordering and results in the IP address of the resolved name every client to be identical. For example, if a DNS server is set for cyclic ordering, every first request for the IP of server A for xyz.com will be the same on all clients. The second query from the same client should result in server B being resolved, if not, then you do have a DNS problem.. However, in the case of Sun Ray Server, the "second query from the same client" would be the second session coming up, since, as far as the DNS server is concerned, all the Sun Ray session are coming from the same client. Therefore, even with cyclic ordering, round robin should work even better in a Sun Ray environment then a "fat" client environment. You can check the documentation for specific DNS servers on how to set a random order for round robin (which should be the default), but chasing down cyclic ordering of RR entries as a cause to this "issue" is basically a red herring in a Sun Ray environment.
More than likely the same IP being returned everytime is a side effect of the name service caching daemon (nscd). The job of nscd is to speed up name resolution. However, ncsd will break any round robin scheme as it caches the first server returned by the first query from the caller (i.e. the host doing the name lookup, aka the Sun Ray server) and all applications on the caller will use that address for the lifetime of the cache. The default lifetime of the nscd cache is 3600 seconds (an hour). To disable the name service caching daemon, run the following command on every Sun Ray server in the host group (aka FOG): svcadm disable system/name-service-cache
An über smart colleague mentioned the possibility of another problem that could exist even if nscd is disabled and the hosts are on the same subnet as the caller . This has to do with default behavior of the Solaris resolver library putting servers that reside on the same subnet as the caller at the top of the sort order. You can read the notes in the man page for "gethostbyname" and also the man page for nss(4) for more information, but both reference how this behavior can break round robin. The fix is to edit /etc/default/nss and uncomment (or add) the statement SORT_ADDRS=FALSE
While those two things will allow a Solaris based Sun Ray server (or any Solaris client) to properly recognize round robin entries, it still holds true that 2003 Session Directory does not do load balancing. The only role of session directory is to ensure that you don't get routed to a different terminal server in case you have an existing session on another server. Round Robin + Session Directory may be all you need, but bear in mind that it is not "load balancing". Users could still connect directly to one of the IP addresses vs the round robin DNS name and that would defeat the round robin scheme in place.
Load balancing is a separate component in 2003, either using an external device like F5's BigIP or using Windows Network Load Balancing (NLB) service.
The type of load balancing solution that can be used depends on what is meant when you use the term "cluster". If the cluster is a real implementation of Windows 2003 Clustering (i.e.the type of cluster you'd use for SQL, Exchange, etc) then you can't use NLB and would have to use an external load balancer. Sun Ray Windows Connector supports either IP based or token based load balancers, though we don't certify any third party products in this regard.
"Cluster confusion" occurs because Session Directory itself is supported by Windows 2003 Clustering in order to provide a highly available directory service. Easy to see how this would be desirable with a large number of terminal servers. However, NLB does not work, nor is it supported on Windows 2003 Cluster.
To further the confusion, when NLB is enabled on the NIC that is handling RDP traffic, one of the configuration tabs is "Cluster Parameters". But it is important to realize that this has nothing to do with Windows 2003 Clustering and is in fact incompatible with it. NLB makes use of independent servers (i.e. not clustered), which the primary requirement of those servers is that they are on the same subnet.
Finally, it is easy to get confused between 2003 and 2008 session directory when it comes to load balancing, but they are very different. 2008 "session directory" does do load balancing. In fact, to underscore this distinction/feature, Microsoft has renamed Session Directory to TS Session Broker. (See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772418%28WS.10%29.aspx)
To summarize, with Windows 2003 you have two choices when it comes to load balancing and session directory.
    1) Have a HA implementation of Session Directory and use an external load balancer
    2) Have non-HA implementation of session directory and use NLB to do load balancing.

  • VPN Client and Terminal Server

We have several clients that allow us to vpn into their systems and it has come to the point that we are getting software incompatabilities. What I am trying to do is set up "compatable" connections on a Terminal server box and let our people access this from their workstations. The problem is when the acuall connection thru the vpn client is made they loose connection to the terminal server. I have tried putting in 2 nic's into the terminal server and am able to allocate one for the terminal server but can not find a way to allocate the other to the VPN CLient. Is this possable or is there another way to accomplish this?
    Thanks

    Close,
What I have is one machine with 2 nic's
NIC #1 = Terminal Server Access (local lan only) Locked in via registry settings to use ONLY this NIC
NIC #2 = I would like to "LOCK" the Client software to use ONLY this nic (has a dynamic IP for local lan and access to the Inet via a router.
Problem: When you connect to the T-Server all is fine UNTIL you start up the client software to access our clients systems via the web connection to the T-Server on the local side stops and gives the appearance of a frozen screen.
manualy disconnect person from the T-Server and kill the cisco client software then you can re-connect to the T-Server (and it all starts over again)
The Cisco software acualy makes the connection to our clients system but we can not tell because it want BOTH the NIC's for itself and stops access via NIC#1 to the T-Server.

  • SAP GUI Memory issues on Windows Terminal Server 2003!!

    Hi All
We are currently experiencing serious issues with our terminal servers and SAP GUI. It appears that SAP GUI is consuming a large amount of memory inorder to run, which in term is causing our terminal servers to page more.
I am not sure where to start with this issue so any help would be great!
    Thanks
    Phil
Loads of points if someone helps me solve this!!!

Citrix won´t help much, it´s "just" a different protocol between the client and the server, Citrix itself will use even more memory.
Why are you sure, that the reason for this is the SAPGUI and not any other Office program?
    Let´s calculate:
I´m writing this message on a TS too. My Outlook (2003) consumes ~ 32 MB memory (incl. virtual), I have 4 SAPGUI windows open which consume 64 MB and some telnet sessions (no Word, Excel etc.)
Let say roughly 128 MB all in all.
If you have 2000 users with 20 servers, means, 100 users on one server, that would be 12,8 GB memory - not caclulated other services running on that box (printserver etc.) including the operating system itself.
If your users have Internet Explorer (or other browsers) open too, you will need to add that amount too. 128 MB per user is the minimum.
If users use BEx (or other .NET based BI developer tools), that amount will doubled (at least).
SAP recommends a PC with at least 256 MB memory to run a SAPGUI with acceptable performance, do you have that much per users? How big are your single servers?

a string value is being read checkLogin() when its expecting
    an object with property loginsuccess.
maybe its a typo or something in your code.
for example you may have place:
    var.loginsuccess == "loginsuccess";
    in which it should be:
    var == "loginsuccess";

    Hi
Our customers using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional on Windows server 2003 R2 SP2. It works some period of time but then application stops working with this error and cannot start anymore:
Faulting application Acrobat.exe, version 8.1.0.137, faulting module Checkers.api, version 8.1.0.137, fault address 0x000021a2.
What can be the problem? There is nothing in the knowledgebase.

    Hello jordixip,
You can connect your Mac to Terminal Services using Remote Desktop Connection Client . You need a license, the client software, and turning on the appropriate bits on the server. It is in Micro$oft-ese, but the overview is here.
    Good Luck!

  • Adobe Reader / Internet Explorer crashes on Terminal Server

I have several Microsoft Server 2008 R2 SP1 terminal server that is used by dozens of users who use Internet Explorer(v8) to view PDF files using IE adobe reader plug-in. There are over 1000 acrord32.exe crash events in less than 60 days.
Adobe Reader version 10.1.1 is installed.
The faulting module is typically but not always Spelling.api.  Other faulting modules include: AcroRd32.dll, AcroForm.api, Annots.api

What could be causing this to crash so frequently? What can I do to fix this?

    Hi Michaeld71937612,
Try terminating the 'process Tree' using Task Manager then restart Adobe Reader, and check the CPU Usage again.
Please make sure that there are no other instances of Acrobat running on your system once you end Task.
I would also recommend you to check for malicious activity on your system using a reputed Antivirus/Security software.

  • PSUS4 and Windows 7 and Windows XP and Windows Server 2003

I have a small domain network with Windows Server 2003 , Windows 7 desktop, Windows XP desktop.  I have an HP LaserJet P3005 printer.   I need to be able to print to the HP printer from all of the computers (server, Win 7 and win XP).    I have a PSUS4 print server. Is there a way to setup the PSUS4 so that my server, Win 7 and Win XP computers could print to the HP printer?   For example, If I setup the Print Server on the XP computer with TCP/IP port, could I share it to the server and Windows 7 computers?

Do you have any router or switch?
Or all the computers are connected to windows server through a switch?
PSUS4 must be connected to the router or the DHCP server so that it will get IP address and all the computers will be able to print.

  • TCS gen 2 and Windows server 2003 support

    Hi,
I have a Cisco TelePresence Content Server v5.3 running on gen 2 hardware.
From what I can see TCS v5.3 only works in Windows server 2003, this is a concern as Windows server 2003 support is ending July 14, 2015.
Is there anything that can be done to mitigate the above problem without having to purchase the gen 3 hardware?
    Kind Regards
    Ed

The supported deployment methods right now for the virtual TCS is for it to be installed on existing TCS hardware, either 2nd or 3rd Gen server only, 1st Gen servers aren't supported, but you can migrate from a 1st Gen to either of the latter two. You'll basically be wiping the old hardware servers and installing VMWare on them to run a single instance of Windows and the virtual TCS application. As Wayne said, support for 3rd party platforms is coming, Cisco knows it's a big deal for customers and a solution needs to be provided and not just limited to existing TCS hardware.
You would migrate your existing license and option keys to the new servers by looking them up from the registry and creating a license file to be used during the install process.
Support contracts will migrate as well, the serial numbers will remain the same, but the product IDs might change to reflect you now having a virtual TCS instead of hardware. However, I'm still working out the details of the product IDs from my migration I did back in August, though that hasn't stopped me from getting TAC support.
To give you an idea of the process, take a look at the TCS 6.1 VM Install Guide.
