Reader 8.1.2 installs but will not launch

I am unable to launch any Adobe Reader above 6.0 under WINXP. My install appears to go flawlessly. When finished, there is a new Adobe reader Icon on the desktop and all pdf apps have become associated. Regardless of whether I try to launch a pdf, or try to launch reader from the shortcut or directly from its exe file, I get an hourglass for approx .2 seconds and that is it. If I monitor in task manager, reader never even makes it onto the applications or processes lists.
I completely uninstall all versions of Reader other than the one I am currently trying to use. However, v 6 is the most recent that I can install and run. v 7 and up, including 8.1.2, all exhibit the symptoms described above.
I have followed the instructions from Adobe Tech Docs: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/329444.html which appear to address the problem, but to no avail.
The computer is running XP Service Pack 2 and is on an older Athlon 2600+ w 1GB RAM. System resources are not being taxed.

I have no clue, but then you are in the Acrobat forum and not the Reader forum. The Reader forum link is listed at the top of this forum.

  • Creative Cloud Creative Cloud Photoshop installs but will not launch

Hi, my Creative Cloud Photoshop latest version installs but will not launch. When I try it opens a page with a long error code report. I uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop several times with the same result. I downloaded and tried the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, as I found as a solution in the help forum, but since I uninstalled Photoshop before I ran the Cleaner Tool there are installed applications, and AdobeCreativeCloudDriver. Should I hit the clean all CS6 button at the bottom of the window. There is nothing including Photoshop in this list.

You will have to provide system info and the exact errors. Nobody can help based on vague "This doesn't work" posts.

  • Adobe Reader XI runs as process, but will not launch

I have noticed that this question has been asked a fair amount already, but they've lead to dead ends or solutions that fail to work. Adobe Reader XI will not run. The original version present of Adobe Reader IX. That present version also failed to run, so despite the uninstall, upgrades, deletion of program files, and purge of adober reader-related registry values, the issue still persists. I am not aware as to when this issue originally manifested, only that under no circumstances, will the program launch. I have tried opening it every way possible.
    Computer Specs:
    Windows XP SP3
    2 GB RAM
    2.5 ghz processor
    Solutions I've Tried:
-run acrord32.exe as a local admin
    -protected mode registry workaround
    -uninstall a specific kb
    -uninstall/reinstall/repair program itself
-Accepting the eula in "program files"
    Additional Info:
-No related errors present in the Event Viewer
-No errors prompted when attempting to use program
-All accounts are local-admins and fails to launch on all of them
I apperciate any contribution, thank you.

  • Itunes will not open on my computer the icon on desktop  has changed to a white foldertype icon. itunes is listed in programmes on my start menu but will not launch either

    please help
itunes will not open on my computer the icon on my desktop has changed to a white folder and it is still listed in start programmes but will not launch i am concerned about losing all my downloads

You music etc should not be affected by problems with the iTunes program, nevertheless it is always a good idea to backup your data.
You haven't said if there was any error message when you tried to start iTunes. If  there was one please give it in full.
Also check to see if QuickTime works, iTunes can not work without it. If QuickTime doesn't work, it has to be fixed before worrying about iTunes.
Then restart your PC and open your Task manger and select the Processes tab.
Try to start iTunes, does iTunes.exe appear on the processes tab? If so does it disappear again or remain although the programs does not open?

  • Just purchased call of duty 4 on my macbook pro 10.6.8 4GB but will not launch or open. Any suggestions, please.

just purchased call of duty 4 on my macbook pro 10.6.8 4GB but will not launch or open. Any suggestions, please.

Installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo will reinstall the App Store for you. Restart your Mac after the combo is installed. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.8. Then try launching the app.
if that doesn't help, try contacting the developer of the app >  http://support.aspyr.com/home

The page covers BOTH hangs during startup and freezing while already running.
The page contains a link to this article on startup problems.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305491
One of the key steps is to determine if the problem is account specific or system wide, that takes you down two different paths.
The other thing you can do is to check that QUicktime works as iTunes will not work with out it and also if iTunes.exe persists on the processes tab of the task manager when you try to start iTunes, even though iTunes does not actually start.

  • I have recently purchased finale 2011, and it installs, but will not run?  Any idea what the problem is?

I have recently purchased the finale 2011 music program, and it installs without any problems, but will not run when I try to start up the program.  It acts like it is going to start, but stops when loading the plugins.  I have been talking with Finale tech support for three days, and they are coming up empty, but they are still trying.  Any ideas what the problem might be?
    Thanks,
    John

Try booting in Safe Mode (hold the shift key while booting until the grey progress bar appears).
    If you're able to log-in, then re-boot and log-in

  • PSE 12 Bundled w/ Intuos 5 Tablet Downloads Fine But Will Not Launch From Intuos Site or Disc

I bought an Intuos 5 tablet last month. It came bundled with PSE 12. The tablet works excellant and I use it with CS6 100% of the time. I did not load PSE12 from the Intuos supplied PSE disc because I use CS6.
I have another computer that I use for photo editing and I loaded the Intuos onto it but since I don't have CS6 on it, I was going to load PSE12.
    WRONG!!!!
PSE will not "Launch" via cd or Intuos website download of program.
I am running Windows XP(which is running CS6 fine), Win 7 on 2 other computers, 1 with CS6 and CS5, the other nothing...no photoediting sw at all. Hence adding PSE12.
I cannot get any phone or email support from Adobe on PSE12. Intuos engineers have no idea what is wrong either with their site download or cd version. But will not call Adobe for help.
Here are some of the errors.
After PSE is loaded and it asks "Do You Want To Launch?": I click ok and
It goes to a screen asking do I want to Uninstall PSE12?
If I go to the exe. file and click....I get numerous errors as follows:
    Dan
Why won't post allow me to add "attachment"??

In the PSE 12 folder, double click on the Setup.exe
If you get this, just click on Ignore

  • Bouncing logo icon in dock, but will not launch

For some unknown reason, both my Photoshop and Indesign CS3 programs (running on my PowerBook Titanium) will not launch. Both logo icons bounce in the dock for a few seconds, then stop without any windows diplaying...
Anone here experience the same issue?... or is this just a clever way of Adobe pushing you toward yet another upgrade?
    Thanks!

Have you tried resetting the program preferences? Hold down Ctrl+Option+Shift+Command as you launch InDesign. It's a long shot, I guess.

  • ITunes installs but will not run post install in SERVER 2003

I have MS Server 2003 as my OS. I haven't used iTunes in a long time because I never got it to work on my computer. I downloaded anapod explorer and that has worked well for me, but I really would like to try iTunes again as I have several friends that tell me how wonderful it is.
Anyways, I install iTunes and it goes through the initial setup procedure, then will not actually show up. I see iTunes.exe in my task manager for about 10 seconds then it disappears. No error message, no nothing. I've tried new versions, old versions, standalone quicktime, deleting "ipod/apple" anything out of the registry. I've force-disabled DEP.
I'm a well seasoned windows user, not so much mac stuff, but I've been messing with this for 3+ hours now, and can't seem to get it to run.
    Suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

I don't think your OS is on the list of supported operating systems, but still.
Does your Quicktime work? iTunes can't work without it and the fault seemed to relate to a Quicktime file.
Sometimes installing the stand alone QUicktime works.
First completely remove Quicktime using the method here: it is not for your OS but I expect you can adjust.
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to the system32 folder you can remove any file with Quicktime in the name.
There can also be problems with incompatible codec packs. If you have any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
Uninstall them before installing the stand alone QUicktime.
Download the version of Quicktime that does not include iTunes from here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Note that it is not the default option.

  • Software installs but will not run

The software installs but when you try to open it the window flashes on the screen for a split second and then goes away. Has anyone seen this problem before? Please help!

My anti virus was already disabled. I uninstalled Quick Time and made sure there was nothing else running like a fire wall or anything. I tried to install it again and it would install the ipod but not the itunes.
I installed everything on a second computer and it went off without a hitch.
    Any ideas??
