Reader 9.1 closes IE

I have two machines running XP Pro that after installing Adobe Reader for the first time, closes Iexplorer when attempting to directly open a pdf file. If I save the file first, I have no problem.  Anyone else have this issue?

Yes!  Actually I un-clicked Display PDF in browser and that solved the
crash.  Thank you, thank you.

  • Does Adobe Reader Disable window.close()?

Help! I open a window using
    onclick='javascript:MyWindow=window.open("Meeting.pdf")'
But the following fails when trying to automatically close that window
      <body onunload="MyWindow.close()">
This same code works fine when MyWindow does not have a PDF file (for instance, onclick='javascript:MyWindow=window.open("Picture.jpg")' works fine).
Almost seems as if Adobe Reader is disabling .close
    Any thoughts?

Please repost in the Acrobat Scripting forum.

  • Can TestStand open, read, write and close binary files?

From a TestStand sequence, I need to open, read, write and close binary files. Does TestStand support this capability?

    Christine -
In the past I have used the C/C++ Adapter to call directly into the CVI RTE functions. The CVI functions I have used are OpenFile, WriteFile and CloseFile. The functions are exported from the DLL as CVI_OpenFile, CVI_WriteFile, and CVI_CloseFile. I just had to make sure that on termination of the sequence, that the integer handle was properly released by calling the close function.
If you are using LabVIEW, you could call directly into the low level VIs to do a similar set of operations.

  • HT4059 Started writing a review of book after reading.  Cannot close out window to get back to library.

Started writing a review of book after reading.  Cannot close out window to go back to Library.

A few days ago I ran Onyx and it told me to repair disks from my boot up disk..
Did you do that? If not, you should follow these directions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
If you did, was the repair successful?
Basically, the 'licence' window that comes up when you open certain applications e.g. Aperture, doesn't disappear like it is supposed to and just stays put..
Sounds like those applications are crashing at startup... unless they are opening other windows behind that "splash screen" window, in which case there's something very weird going on. If they just get to the splash screen and then stop, they've crashed.
Sounds like whatever hard drive problems you had have caused some corruption to important parts of your system or those applications. I would imagine you're going to have to reinstall those applications at a minimum. Since it seems like it's happening with new apps that you have downloaded recently, though, it's more likely you're going to need to reinstall the system.
Whatever the case, if you don't have good backups, the absolute first thing you need to do before you do anything else is to make a backup. See my [Mac Backup Guide|http://www.reedcorner.net/thomas/guides/backups> for help with that. Depending on the level of damage your hard drive experienced, though, it may be too late... there may be documents somewhere that are damaged and can't be opened that you haven't discovered yet.
If you reinstall the system, I'd advise moving your data back over from a backup manually and reinstalling applications from scratch, using Migration Assistant sparingly, if at all. You don't want to move damaged settings files or applications back onto a squeaky-clean system.

  • How do I access the End User Licensing Agreement? I clicked on it and it gives me a message that I need to launch Adobe Reader, accept and close and reopen. Trouble is I can't get to an icon for file to launch. I am working on a Mac and have installed Mac

I am using a Mac and have installed Adobe Reader for Mac, latest version. I cannot access the End User Licensing Agreement. I clicked on it and it gives me a message that I must launch Adobe, check that I agree, close and reopen. The problem is I can't find any way to launch Adobe because it appears nowhere on my launch pad, nor in my document files or on the control panel. Because of this, I cannot print bank statements nor can I get into my insurance companies billing department to make a payment. HELP!

How about in your Applications folder?

  • Adobe Reader 9 automatically closes

Whenever I open Adobe Reader 9.0, whether directly from the shortcut or through opening a pdf document, the program will close after approximately 10-20 seconds, with the usual "Adobe Reader 9.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" and the choice to send an error report. I tried re-installing (the download is directly from this website) and restarting computer, but neither worked. One thing that I noticed is that the installation bar won't run to 100%, despite the fact that all steps have been completed. It will freeze at 99.90%, with the "resume" button grayed out, leaving me with either "cancel" or "pause" choices. I had no choice but to click "cancel".
    Thanks for any help.

Thank you, I have received an email answer to this query, switching browser has solved the problem.

  • Adobe Reader won't close

When I close PDF files, Adober Reader continues to run in the background and slows down my computer. I have to go into Task Manager and close Adobe Reader each time. Any suggestions?

I am having this same issue, which is frustrating.  How does Adobe not have weekend tech support?  I keep getting told to just "open the program"  well, i have tried to open it, and it doesnt show as downloaded, so i will go to download it, and it says "you already have this installed"... well okay, then i go to find it, and it doesnt exist anywhere on my computer and tells me to download it again, and annoying triangle i keep going in.

  • Reader 9.0 closes IE7

    Hi
I am a neophyte computer user
I upgraded to reader 9.0 from 7.0. Now when I attempt to open a web based PDF IE7 closes. A few minutes later I get an I/O error message that I assume closes reader.
I uninstalled 9.0 and then reloaded 7.0 same issue. I also unistalled 7.0 then installed 8.0 then unistalled 8.0 and reinstalled 9.0.
I read the thread titled "Reader 9 won't open PDF from web browser" and tried most of the proposed fixes.
Nothing works! reader 7, 8 and 9 ALL close IE7 when I attempt to open web based PDF. Please note that reader 9.0 and previous versions all open PDF files on my hard drive with absolutely no problems.
What can I do to resolve this?

  • Reader opens and closes immediately by itself when try to open PDF from windows live mail or browser

    Hi,
I'm having problems with acrobat xi since installing it on my windows 7 computer.
Every time I try to open up a pdf file from windows live mail or a browser.. it opens and closes immediately.  The only way I can view it is if I save the file onto the computer, open up acrobat reader first then open up the file in there.
How do I make it work properly again please?
I've tried several things  so far like..
-Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
-Disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
    Please help me.  Thanks.

How can I tell which one it is exactly?  I think it is Acrobat Reader.. 11.0.10...
I can only open up a PDF if I save it to my computer and then open up the Acrobat program then open up a file using file > open.
But if I try and view a pdf from an email attachment in Windows Live Mail.. or from a browser... it will open and close immediately.
How do I fix this please?  thanks.

  • Windows 7, Adobe reader starts but closes right away?

Is there a sulotion for this, i am not able to view any of the saved files I have on my computer. When i click on the acrobat file it starts to open but closes right away. I am running windows 7 and can't find any help online. It was working just fine before and i had no troubles up to this point, But i went to open a file today and started having this problem.

The End User License Agreement (eula) tends to "hang" in Windows 7 and it doesn't open as it should. This keeps Reader from opening after an update.
Go to: C/Program Files/Adobe/Reader 11.0/Reader    (it may be in Program Files (X86) if your OS is 64 bit)
Double click the eula.exe file and accept the license agreement. Reader should open after that.

  • Why does Mail mark all emails as read when I close it with an email open?

If I use Mail with say, Gmail, and I open an email in Mail and then later archive all email in Gmail, then any future email that I receive are marked as "Read" in the Mail app. This appears to be because when you open an email in Mail and then it no longer exists (because it's archived) then Mail moves on to the next email, therefore marking it as read because it's opening it.
Is this really to be expected? Is there a way for the Mail app to "reset" itself like some other apps do, once they close, rather than save the last state that the app was in?

Does the iPhone still do this, or no longer?

  • Adobe Reader Version XI closes due to "problem" a few seconds after opening

I've been reinstalling software after replacing a bad hard drive.  Downloading Adobe's latest version XI and installed but couldn't get it to work. The screen fades after a few seconds of opening, and an error message box pops up announcing that the program has experienced a "problem" and must close, and that Windows is looking for a solution and will notify me if one is found....  I installed/uninstalled several times, even tried to repair, to no avail.  Finally downloaded old version X, and it's working like a charm.  Is anyone else exeriencing this with the new XI version?

If you have a packet sniffing tool like Fiddler or Wireshark, could just see if Reader is trying to access something on network?

  • Reader won't close down, running high CPU

Hello, I've recently updated to the Reader XI thinking that it may solve my problem, but it was happening with the previous version also.  After viewing pdf files and closing the files, Reader still continues to run in the background.  CPU usage runs at 50% and if I've open multiple files, CPU usage runs up to 100%.  My computer is slow, lags, gets hot and the fan continues to run.  The only way I can seem to close the program is through the task manager.  The application shows as AcroRd32.exe*32.  When I stop the application, my system resumes to normal and the fan stops once the computer has cooled down.  Can anyone help with a solution?  I'm also running Windows 7.  Thank you kindly.

I'm having the exact same problem as cmmcaw above -- and yes, I'm running Windows 7, too (and it's completely updated).  A few days ago, my computer slowed down to a crawl, the fan was running full blast, and the machine was getting hot.  The next time my computer was on, I scanned my system thoroughly, and there was no sign of malware.  The next time my computer's fan started churning, I opened up Task Manager and discovered that Adobe Reader X was not shutting down (and yes, my CPU was running at 100%).  I have now installed Adobe Reader XI in the hopes of fixing the problem.  It appears to work all right when I'm in my Administrator account, but when I'm in my User account, I encounter the same problem that I had with Adobe Reader X -- Adobe Reader just does not shut down properly.  Reader XI opens up just fine, and then it appears to close, but in reality Reader is actually running in the background, trying to fully close down.
In order to solve the problem, I tried to download the .zip file you suggested above, but it won't download (and that's on my Admin. account).  Adobe encounters some sort of error (it won't say what kind).  I tried downloading the file with my virus scanner turned off, but still no go.  Cleaned cookies, ensured they were enabled -- still no go.
So, why does Adobe XI seem to work okay on my Administrator account, but refuse to shut down properly on my User account?  And how do I fix this problem?  I mean, I can alway just shut it down fully through Task Manager, but it's not supposed to work that way.
