Reader 9.3 Stopped Working

Running Windows 7;
Computer came with Adobe Reader 9.1 which would not work so I uninstalled it and downloaded & installed 9.3.
When trying to open Reader 9.3, the same message appears: Adobe Reader has stopped working.
Does anyone have a methodology for getting Reader to open and work properly?
Thank you.

What I would try if I were in your situation
uninstall your current Adobe Reader;
reboot Windows to make sure that all components are removed;
download this installer http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.3/enu/AdbeRdr930_en_US.msi (save to disk);
close all browser windows, then run the downloaded installer.
If the problem reoccurs, and if no-one else in this forum has any better advice, then maybe you should try an alternate PDF reader such as Foxit Reader.  (But make sure that you don't install the bundled toolbar!)

  • Acrobat and Reader XI getting "stopped working" error message when closing

Every computer running Windows 7 and Reader or Acrobat in our office is having an issue where the Windows error message "Adobe Reader/Acrobat has stopped working" appears as the user is exiting a PDF.   It doesn't happen every time but it happens fairly often and appears to be happening on each of the 5 workstations currently running Windows 7 and either Acrobat or Reader XI.  When trying to move the PDF into another folder after this happens an error message comes up stating that the file is currently open and can't be moved.

    Hey emmaw7542582,
Could you please try installing Adobe Reader DC (the latest version) from the below mentioned link:
Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all version
Then, try opening those PDFs again and see if the same message appears.
If that does not resolve your problem, then please share the screenshot of the error message.
    Hope to get your response.

  • Will Reader and Acrobat stop working inside Chrome when google blocks NPAPI extensions

Google chrome developers are making two changes to help stop malicious plugins: one is to only allow extensions downloaded from the app store, and another is to disallow NPAPI extensions altogether.

    http://blog.chromium.org/2013/09/saying-goodbye-to-our-old-friend-npapi.html
I presume the current Acrobat integration uses NPAPI - does this mean that Acrobat and Reader will soon stop working in Chrome altogether?
    -- Tim

it seems to me like you're having a different problem - this shouldn't be broken at the moment (it works for me fine) and the fact that you can get it working by fiddling with the settings says to me that something else is going on with your PC. maybe you could reinstall acrobat and/or chrome?

    Hi,
It could be a case of a corrupt installation which could be causing the crash.
Could you please follow, ʇɐb ɹəuəllıʍ suggestion, and uninstall the current installation of Adobe Reader 10.1.2 and restart if prompted for.
Try and install Reader 10.1.0 again (from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.0/zh_CN/AdbeRdr1010_zh_CN.msi).
Now update the same to 10.1.2 using the installer from http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.2/misc/AdbeRdr1012.msp
Try and launch Adobe Reader post the successful installation.
Do ensure not to launch the application during the updating process.
    Hopefully this should fix things.
    Thanks

  • Adobe Reader XI give "Stopped Working" Error after Closing Writable PDF

I have Adobe Reader XI version 11.0.10, on a Windows 7 computer, and when a writable PDF is opened then the entire Adobe Reader program is closed it gives a "Adobe has stopped working" error. I've ran a repair with no change and Protected Mode is disabled. It doesn't generate this error when read-only PDFs are closed.
I checked the event viewer which said
Faulting application name: AcroRD32.exe, version: 11.0.10.32
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0
    (Which doesn't seem very helpful)
Any ideas to get this to stop? It's really annoying.

  • Reader for PC stops working

When I click on the SYNC button after a few secs I get this Message:
"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if there a solution is available" . As a result I cannot transfer books from my computer to my eReader  PRS-T1. My Olympus Camera software also opens that program, and the "Autoplay" box appears???? Is it interfering with the eReader? I am using Windows 7.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It’s only ReaderforPC database file that doesn’t work properly!!!
Uninstalling and reinstalling software is not useful, because the database file won’t be erased.
You have to delete (or rename or move to another position) the file “ReaderDesktopLibrary.db”. On Win 7 you’ll find this file here (folder and file are hidden):
    C:\Users\Users_Name\AppData\Local\Sony Corporation\ReaderDesktop\ReaderDesktopLibrary.db
But if you erase just only this file, you won’t have the same ebooks on PC and in reader device anymore. Then, you have even to copy ebooks from the reader device to “My Library” of the ReaderforPC software (https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/34778/c/65,66/p/73878,73935,73936/)
For me, a complete solution is this (Attention!!! All notes will be erased):
    -Backup reader’s contents
-Delete (or rename or move) ReaderforPC’s database file
-Import ebooks from backup into ReaderforPC
    -Hard or Factory Reset (reader)
    -Sync
    Here is how:
-Connect reader to the PC and copy all contents in "Removable Mass Media" named “Reader” into a PC’s folder.
-Delete (or rename or move to other position) the file “ReaderDesktopLibrary.db”.
-Find and copy all ebooks (or other reader’s contents, if there are, like photos, music, etc.) from backup, into a new folder. Open ReaderforPC and import this folder. (After importing files, DON’T move or erase or rename this folder. If so, issue will come back!!!)
-Hard or Factory Reset (Warning!!! Read carefully all notes)
    (For all Sony’s readers https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/31629)
    For PRS-T1 https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/34828
    -Syncing reader with ReaderforPC

Looks like itunes was still trying to communicate with my iphone and got confused when it couldnt find it.    Found this in another post and it worked great.
    Solution:
Make sure you are not connected to the internet and then open itunes. Sync your phone and then enable the internet again. Then stay connected to the internet and close your itunes and reopen it. Bam problem solved.

  • Adobe reader has completely stopped working

    Win7 Professional 64bit, Core i7, 4GB, Reader 10.1.4.
I have been using reader for more years than I can remember. I use it
all day, every day - there is almost never a time when Reader is
    absent from my desktop.
BUT... Today Adobe Reader completely stopped working.  I was using it
quite happily this morning, on a PDF which I have opened dozens or
even hundreds of times.  I needed to switch to another document - when
I tried to open it, (or one of about 100 others I have also opened
many times), I saw nothing appear on the screen, the cursor switched
to pointer/busy, and then cleared after about 5 seconds.  The only
indication that anything happened was a blind ACRORD32.exe process in
the task list.    I rebooted - same result. I uninstalled Reader and
reinstalled it from the Adobe download site.  Same result.  Reader is
simply no longer functioning in ANY WAY WHATSOEVER. This now happens
    EVERY time.

You can try using this tool to remove all traces of previous version(s) of Reader:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you may download the offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • Fingerprint reader / HP Simplepass Stopped Working...Again! How to fix it...again!??

Okay, so I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and I've been using a fingerprint reader to login to Windows since I've owned the notebook, back in 2012.  It's always worked fine.  Until a few months ago, when after I installed something, it stopped working.  I went through a bunch of steps and methods, and eventually it worked again.  Now, I had to uninstall/reinstall Norton Antivirus this afternoon, and after that, the fingerprint reader has stopped working again.  I tried a bunch of steps, but it just won't work.  I've downloaded/updated the drivers for the reader, everything.
I go into Simplepass, and it asks me "have you found your fingerprint sensor?"  I click yes.  Then it asks "are you ready to enroll?" again, I click yes.  It tells me to select a finger, which I select my right hand pointer finger.  Then it asks for my Windows password, which I enter.  Then it comes up and says "it looks like you're having some trouble. Would you like to try again?" and I click yes.  Again, it asks which finger, I select it, it asks for the password, I enter it, and then it says "it looks like you're having some trouble, etc".
Can someone walk me through how to fix this again?  I'll uninstall and reinstall what i have to, but everything says the "biometric device" is working, the drivers say I already have the up-to-date drivers...what else can I do?  ask me anything...

Just so you know, if you work for Norton, it ALL seems to tie into Norton.  This is how it broke down just the other day:
Computer wasn't even turning on, loading Windows, etc.  So I had to do a system restore, which is what I did.  This allowed me to get into Windows, AND the fingerprint reader/fingerprint login was working again.  Then Norton was popping up and saying there was an error of some kind (didn't write it down), and that I could use their "uninstall & reinstall" program to fix the issue.  I did that, it reinstalled Norton, and then I had to restart the computer.  And now the fingerprint reader doesn't work again.
Additionally, it's now asking me for 15+ Windows updates, but I'm scared to install anything else.
Maybe if I uninstall Norton MANUALLY, then download & reinstall it, then the fingerprint reader would continue to work?  Because right now, the only way to get it to work again seems to be to do a system restore...but then I run into the error with Norton when I do that...

What can we do to stop this from happening as we do not want to go back to Reader 9.5.
    Thanks,
    Matt

After a good bit more searching on the internet, I found the suggestion
regarding the Protected Mode.  I also discovered that I couldn't get to
the point of making that change without crashing Reader.  So, more
searching occurred with the result that I found a script that I could
execute to make the change in the Registry. That seems to have resolved
    the issue.
I have to ask, though, what gives with the download having the Protected
Mode set on if that tends to cause it to crash?

  • Adobe Reader Has Stopped Working Possible Fix

Hey, I just had a battle with the adobe program on a computer, it would go to open, then right away it would show up with the error message:
"Adobe Reader <version> Has Stopped Working" then it sends information and closes.
I fixed my issue by going into the Adobe Reader folder, finding the "Plug-Ins" folder, and there was a duplicate of every plug-in in there, so it was trying to load them.  As soon as I deleted the duplicated plug-ins it opened fine.
I just thought I would share this incase anyone else was having problems with adobe, as a Re-install did not seem to fix the problem, If you are having the problem try what I mentioned above.

It was on a Dell laptop, running Windows Vista.  But I'm sure it would work on any machine running any Windows, not sure about linux or MAC's, but if they do have duplicates of the plug-ins and it was crashing I will still suggest it as a fix

Question?  I tried to print a statement this morning with Adobe Reader XI.  A screen appeared telling me that Adobe Reader XI had stopped working and that windows was checking for a problem.  I thought I could just download a new Adobe Reader XI but it tells me that the program already exists.  I am not very good technically so if anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Try disabling Protected Mode in Adobe Reader [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
