Reader 9 prints gibberish

I currently have Reader 9 and have encountered an unusual problem I've never seen before with any Reader version.
When I view some of my pdf files on the screen, they look just fine. But when I go to print them out, all I get is gibberish. It's basic formatting is the same...keeps paragraph structure and so on...but the text is like nothing I've ever seen before. The page numbers come out wrong, too.
Only some files do this. They seem to be files that I got from the same source but unfortunately, I'm having no luck contacting the people who put out those files even though they are a seemingly reputable bunch...probably on a month long silent meditation. (it's a buddhist website)
I'm using a Canon ip4700 and have already talked to them about it and they have discounted this as a printer problem.
What I don't get is how come it shows up perfectly readable on screen but not on paper.
Anyone out there ever encounter this and might be able to clue me in on what is causing the problem...and better still...how to fix it?
Thanks

Workaround:
This is an old workaround I found searching the very same subject and tried it this morning with success!
After selecting File>Print, near the bottom of the window is an "Advanced" button.  click on this.  You will find an option to "Print as Image".  This will allow you to print the PDF exactly as you see it instead of it trying to print the individual lines of text.  An image is an image.
As to the origin of this problem, I do not believe the origination of the document is at fault.  In our office we have over 15 users.  We can have some print the EXACT same PDF without any problems, while other users/computers print the gibberish.  All systems have the same programs and updates (to the best of my knowledge) and we have the same printers.
I am sure there is some obscure Windows update that one system may have that the other do not, hard to say without a lot of time to investigate.
Let us know if this works for you!

  • Prints gibberish in headers and footers in emails or web pages.

I have an HP J4540. The headers and footers print gibberish either in email or a web page. The body of the text is fine. It prints fine in Internet Explorer but not in Firefox.

Welcome to the HP Community , I read through your post about the printing issues you have been having, and I hope to help you! Seeing how the printer will make copies and test print tells us that the printer itself is fine and there is no hardware issues. However, seeing how printing from two different computers will not work, flags a software problem on the computers. Please try out the steps below and get back to me with the results and we will go from there. If you did not install the Full Driver, run the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows to search and install the complete driver and software. This will need to run on both computers individually. Manually restart the print spoolers on the computers:1. Click Start
    2. Type "Services" in the search field.
    3. Open SERVICES
    4. At the bottom, click "Extended View"
    5. Search for Print Spooler
    6. Right-click it and choose Properties
    7. Select as Automatic in the drop down box, close the Window
    8. Right click on Print Spooler and choose "Stop", wait until it stops and then right click again and "Start".
    9. Close out of Services and try printing from Notepad.10. Try printing from a web browser now, if there is a problem with the print, try a different web browser.  Show thanks for my reply to help you today by hitting the "thumbs up" icon below!I hope to hear from you, good luck!

  • Network Printer printing Gibberish and Disconnecting

The printers are connected to the network via a switch. It goes from router -> switch -> port on wall -> switch (unmanaged) -> printer. It is on a domain and it seems that only the printers connected to an unmanaged switch are having the issue. Firmware has been updated and it has the latest device drivers on the PC. In addition, it just prints gibberish pages randomly. For example, we had a printer set up this morning and when we came back this afternoon, it had run out of 500 pages of paper because it printed out the different type of fonts that it uses. Any ideas?

Awesome, I downloaded the new drivers for the printer (there were OS 10.4 specific ones) and it worked like a charm. I guess I gave OS X more credit than it deserved in this case, thanks!

  • My L7680 intermitently prints gibberish part way through pdf documents.

My printer has recently strated to intermitently print gibberish part way through a pdf document.  It happens most often if the document is long, eg more than ~5 pages or if I send several pdf documnets to the print queue.  If I resubmit the document for printing, often it comes out OK or it goes wrong later in the document.
I'm running Windows XP and I access the printer through a BT HomeHub wireless.  I've tried reinstalling the drivers, resetting the HomeHub and running the HP Diagnostic software with no joy (the latter found no problems).  The problem does not seem to occur when printing Word documents.
    I hope someone can help.

There have been reports of Vista not working well with older networking equipment.  Here's a link to a Microsoft note on this subject.
I also have a couple of other questions:
When the printer stalls, can you ping the printer from the PC?  Can you access the printer's internal web page by browsing its IP address?
How is the PC connected to your network (wired or wireless)?
Are there other wireless devices on the network besides your PC and your printer?
When the printer stalls, can you still browse the internet from your PC?

Updated the printer firmware and it didn't help.Is there any thing that can be done from outlook side
    Hi,
We don't know if it's an issue on Outlook client side, we need more information to narrow down the issue.
So this only occurs in Outlook? Does this happpen to all emails? You have mentioned that this is an enterprise environment, so how many clients are affected by this?
First try to check for updates and install any required ones (It’s always a good idea to keep current with updates.), then check result.
Please keep us posted with any updates.

  • HP LaserJet 4300 prints gibberish for one user, but prints OK for all others on a Windows 7 32-bit

HP LaserJet 4300 printer installed via LPT1 using Universal Print Driver v5.2.6.9321 on an HP 8100 desktop running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32-bit.
For one particular user, this printer prints gibberish no matter what type of document she attempts to print.
Not sure when the problem began, the user uses a network printer to work around this issue. She can print to any of the other HP printers on our network OK, including another 4300 down the hall.
Anyone else can log on and print the same documents OK on this desktop using this printer.
Have tried rebooting the HP 8100 and power cycled off/on the 4300. Also uninstalled and re-installed the 4300.
I have updated the firmware on this 4300.
Changing the print processor in the printer properties did not help either.
Virus and malware scans have not detected any issues.
Any advice for this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • Printing gibberish

I have an HP PhotoSmart Plus B210 Printer and an HP Officejet Pro 6830. Both printers are printing "gibberish". It may print 1/2 page of what I want to print, but then it prints a bunch of random letters or symbols or black lines all over the page. Then it continually prints a few random symbols and uses a new sheet. Both printers have wasted so much paper and ink!! I'm using Windows 7. Please help.

  • Adobe Reader Printing Problem

I have a PC with Windows XP SP3. When I try to print a PDF document, I get the following message: "The document could not be printed. There were no pages selected to print." Of course, I had selected the pages to print.
Recently, I had many problems with Adobe Reader 10, so I removed it and reloaded Adobe 9. Today, when this printing problem appeared, I did a restore on my computer, taking it back a few months. I still have the printing problem.
Any idea what's wrong? Any idea how to fix it?

I have Acrobat Pro 9, but the feature I am using is listed under my
    printers.
If I go to Print, then in the drop-down list of printers, I have PDF -
which essentially creates a new PDF document.  I don't really understand
why it worked, but it did.  The Print - PDF is also available to Word,
    Publisher, etc.
    Hope tis works.

  • Slow Reader printing

All of a sudden printing a PDF has become excruciatingly slow. It has always been a little slow, but now it is much worse.
    Adobe Reader 8 - Mac G5 OS 10.4.11

If Adobe Acrobat Reader prints slowly try the following:
    1.             Open a PDF file
    2.             From the menu, select File > Print
    3.             From the dialog displayed, click on the Advanced button at the bottom
    4.             On the Advanced Print Setup dialog, make sure that “Let printer determine colors” is CHECKED.
    5.             Click OK and OK to print the document.
    This worked for me.

  • Adobe Reader - Print Dialoge box is usable

Yesterday I was running Reader ver. 10.1.3 on a Windows 2008 x64 Terminal Server.  All users Adobe Reader print dialoge boxes now open up very very large.  Any visible font is perhpas 10" tall (see screenshots below).  Drop down pick lists don't display text, and neither does any of the buttons (see screenshots below).  As long as you just want a standard print, you can press enter to activate the defaulted print button.  You can press the ESC key to exit the print dialoge form.  Printing is all being done to Networked printers and I get the same screen no matter what printer is set to be the default printer.
Sometimes (rarely) the print dialoge box will display normal size, and it will display the page your going to print, but as per above, there is no text on the buttons or drop down boxes.  The sample screenshot below took up my entire 1920x1080 screen and is just a small portion of the dialoge box size.  I have to scroll around three screen lengths to get to the other side of the dialoge box. There is no verticle scroll bars, so I can't scroll down to the bootom of the dialoge box.  Nor are there any window resize options (see last screenshot below)
Here is a closeup shot of the top LH side of the Dialoge box:
Below is a screenshot of the top RH corner (I had to scroll three window lengths to get to it):
The Word and Excel etc. Print Dialoge boxes are all working ok.  I have tested different default printers with the Reader Print Dialoge box window and get the same looking screen.
The first thing I tried was to just reboot the Terminal Server (TS).  I was supprised to find that I had the same problem.  I tried upgrading to 10.1.4  and rebooted the TS.  I still have the same problem.  I see that someone else has sort of had a similar issue to mine:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4559861 But don't really see a response on how or if it was resolved.
Anyone have an idea of whats going wrong and how to fix this?
    Thanks.

As mentioned above, every now and then people will see a normal sized dialoge box.  Here are two examples:
