Reader 9 Signature

Under the document tab the first option is Signature, but when selected is is greyed out.  Under the Security Settings, I was able to create a signature.  Under Security, Show Security Properties it shows that Signing is not Allowed.
I have the same result with a scanned file or a file converted from word to pdf.
What do I need to do to have Signing Allowed?
Thanks,
MII

In my quest to find out what's wrong, I also discovered that when I try to save any changes, a box appears saying: "Data typed into this form will not be saved. Adobe Reader can only save a blank copy of this form." Might the two issues be related?

    How can I find the location of the signature used in the Adobe Reader signature feature? I've been using the signature feature for a while now and it works great and I'd like to use it on another computer. However, I forgot where I stored the signature. Adobe finds it with no problems (the signature pops up when I click "Place Signature"), but I have no idea where it is.

    Hey guys,
    So this is follow up from my debarkle with the EDD. I found out my problem with copying files from Mac to EDD and vice versa was a result of a not so good EDD ( i had an apollo hard drive from imation) that was not very compatible with macs. So i did my research and found out that the best hard drives were Western Digital and Seagate. I bought the newest western digital EDD 1TB and formated it to FAT32 and guess what...no problems so far. The only problem is that FAT32 format doesn't copy files larger than about 4 gigs so i couldnt copy a movie from my brothers computer onto my EDD that was 1080p. You could probably resolve that by partitioning a small part of your hard drive in ExFAT? but yeah, hopefully that helped guys.

  • Save for reader signature

    I was just informed Acrobat pro 10 has a feature where you can save a pdf in a format that allows you to digitally sign a pdf with reader, is this possible with Acrobat Pro 9? This is something we want to do just haven"t much time to look into it.
    Thanks, any info on digital signatures would be helpful
    Mark S

    In Acrobat Pro, open the document and select: Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader
    You may also want to add a digital signature field to a page. To do so, select "Forms > Add or Edit Fields", which will bring you to forms editing mode where you can add a signature field.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader Signature Field not Accessible

    I created a form using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. It has a signature field. The security settings are off, and according to Pro, all abilities including adding a signature are allowed. When I open the document in Reader XI, I cannot sign it. The Sign tab is available, but all options in that tab are grayed out. I cannot double click on the field or click the signature icon. What settings am I missing?

  • Read signature as plain text

    Hi,
    when reading the (default) signature of a mailbox, the result comes as
    HTML text. But I need the signature as plain text only. Is there a way to
    read it in plain text directly or to have it converted from html to plain
    text?
    Thanks in advance,
    Frank

    I've used gwAccount.Signatures.GetDefault.Body, which is a byte-array in
    fact.
    In my case it looks like a a multi-part MIME message, one of the parts
    being of content type "text/html". Within this part I can see the
    signature text in HTML format.
    I could now try to find some code to transfer HTML to plain text, but on
    the other hand Groupwise is doing this for a signature anyway, therefor
    it would be straight forward to have Groupwise doing the work.

  • Adobe Reader signature

    I have to digitally sign a document and I am using adobe reader. Everything under the sign tab is grayed out so what can I do?

    I am having the same issue. I saw the Sign Pane when I first upgraded to Reader XI, but as of late it has disappeared on me. I changed some of my security settings, but I cannot see as to where that may have effected anything with signing. I am not sure what the issue is...did you ever resolve this? If so, please help.

  • How Can I stop signature fields disappearing on my IPAD Adobe Reader 11

    Hi, I am using trial version of Adobe Acrobat XI pro. I have converted a Word document to PDF. I have added text fields, Java scripts to automatically add Todays date as default, Form Reset buttons and Signature fields. File is saved as standard save. All of the above is done in Windows 7 environment. On same computer, In Adobe Reader signature fields are visible although I do not have the means to test it. When the same  File is emailed and opened on an IPAD using Adobe Reader 11.2, the signature fields are missing. I intend to have my users access the file (and 30 others like this)  on an IPAD. Can someone advise how to resolve the missing signature field issue. It appears that Adobe do not help with such issues as it is not considered an installation issue.

    Digital signatures are not supported on mobile versions of Adobe Reader. Other PDF viewers like Readdle's PDF Expert treat them like e-signature fields, allowing the user to draw/apply their drawn signature, but this is not the same as a digital signature. Adobe Reader for iOS allows you to add an e-signature, but it doesn't use digital signature fields for this feature. Instead, you tap the screen, choose the annotations icon, and then the signature icon.

  • Adding digital signature field with LC Designer vs. LC Digital Signatures

    Hi All,
    When digital signature field named "SignatureField1" is added to PDF document using LC Designer it appears as "form1[0].#subform[0].SignatureField1[0]" in Adobe Reader signatures tree.
    Same field added by LC Digital Signatures service appears as "SignatureField1" in the same tree.
    Why? What is the difference between those objects?
    LC Digital signatures ES2
    Adobe Reader 9.3.0
    Thanks, Yan

    Yan
    First off, there is no difference between the two signature field objects.
    I'll do my best to explain why there is a difference in how the signature objects are named in the Signature pane of Reader\Acrobat.  When you add the signature field using LC Designer, the object is defined in the underlying XML (XFA) that defines the form.  The  (SOM expression) you see in Reader (via the signature pane) matches the structure of the form.
    When you add a signature field to a form using LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES2, you are appending a signature field "on top" of a PDF form (the underlying XML has been rendered into PDF).  The signature field is not defined in the XML, therefore Reader\Acrobat do not display the same naming syntax.
    Does this help?
    Thanks

  • Fault in adobe digital signature revocation checking schema

    Hello,
    I have found some fault in adobe digital signature revocation checking schema. If OCSP response signing certificate contains CRL distribution point (in my case CDP (CRL) and AIA (OCSP)), online OCSP check executes, but after getting all chain certificate OCSP responses, validating signature against CRL (it’s looks from Local cache). It means you never get OCSP validation data in Adobe Acrobat or Reader signature revocation tab.
    Adobe Revocation Checking Quick Key schema is following:
    Check      Embedded revocation responses
    Check      local CRL cache C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application      Data\Adobe\Acrobat\9.0\Security\CRLCache
    Check      Online OCSP response
    Check      Online CRL response
    LAB environment:
    Certificate      chain E-ME SSI      (RCA) (Root Certificate) -> E-ME PSI (PCA) (Policy Certificate) -> E-ME IS (CA1) (Issuer certificate) -> User      certificate (Document signing certificate)
    Sign      PDF document (Ocsp-CHECK.pdf)      using Adobe Acrobat 9 with User certificate (Don’t add revocation information in signature)
    Test steps:
    Sign      PDF document using Adobe Acrobat 9 with User certificate (Don’t add revocation      information in signature)
    Clear      Local CRL cache under C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application      Data\Adobe\Acrobat\9.0\Security\CRLCache
    Open      signed file using Adobe Acrobat 9 or Reader 9
    Verify      signature. Verification process finishes successfully. Under signature      properties in certificate windows and user certificate revocation tab you      can see that revocation information data comes from CRL. The same for all      chain certificates. But if we look in chain and user certificate its holds      AIA record for OCSP service.
    After      a couple of tests I tried to disable access for Acrobat to local CRL cache      folder (Everyone – Full control deny).
    After      disabling access to local CRL cache folder - verify the same signed PDF      file. Opening document you can see OCSP checking progress and verification      process finishes successfully. Under signature properties in certificate      windows and user certificate revocation tab you can see that revocation      information data comes from OCSP. The same for all chain certificates.
    Resolution:
    Its looks when Adobe starts online OCSP checking and receives OCSP response they start parsing OCSP response signer certificate and check OCSP signer certificates revocation information. In this process CRL for OCSP signer certificate is downloaded and placed in Local CRL cache C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\9.0\Security\CRLCache
    Somehow when Adobe gets all chain certificate OCSP responses and have verified also all OCSP signer certificates, online OCSP check is no more continued and revocation information are taken from Local CRL cache.
    Can you please help me to clear how to deal with this problem, to make sure that procedure works correctly?

  • Attempting to verify a digital signature in JSSE

    Situation: In a nutshell I cannot get signature verification to work, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
    Background: I'm trying to recreate functionality in Java that currently exists in C/C++, using the OpenSSL vxcrypto library. I've written code to demonstrate the problem. The code below demonstrates what works in C, and what doesn't work in Java. In both cases, I read all of the input data (the public key, the SHA-1 hashed data that was previously signed by my private key, and the signature) as raw bytes from binary files. As you can see in the code, the Java program is reading this data from the exact same files as is the C program.
    Signature: 128 bytes
    Signed data: SHA-1 hashed to produce 20 bytes, with those 20 bytes being what was signed by my private key.
    Public key: 162 bytes
    This works fine:
    * OpenSSLDemo.cpp
    #include "stdafx.h"
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <openssl/rsa.h>
    #include <openssl/x509.h>
    #define HASHED_DATA_SIZE   20
    #define SIGNATURE_SIZE     128
    #define PUBLIC_KEY_SIZE    162
    * Proper error-checking and buffer guarding omitted for simplicity.
    int main(int argc, char * argv[])
         * Allocate arrays to store the raw input bytes.
        unsigned char hashed_data[HASHED_DATA_SIZE];
        unsigned char signature[SIGNATURE_SIZE];
        unsigned char public_key[PUBLIC_KEY_SIZE];
         * Read the binary files into their respective arrays.
        FILE * fp = fopen("c:\\hasheddata.bin", "rb");
        if (HASHED_DATA_SIZE != fread(hashed_data, 1, HASHED_DATA_SIZE + 1, fp))
            printf("Read of hashed data was NOT exactly 20 bytes.\n");
        fclose(fp);
        fp = fopen("c:\\signature.bin", "rb");
        if (SIGNATURE_SIZE != fread(signature, 1, SIGNATURE_SIZE + 1, fp))
            printf("Read of hashed data was NOT exactly 128 bytes.\n");
        fclose(fp);
        fp = fopen("c:\\pubkey.bin", "rb");
        if (PUBLIC_KEY_SIZE != fread(public_key, 1, PUBLIC_KEY_SIZE + 1, fp))
            printf("Read of hashed data was NOT exactly 162 bytes.\n");
        fclose(fp);
         * Create OpenSSL RSA public key structure from my raw public key
         * bytes.
        RSA * rsa_struct_ptr = NULL;
        const unsigned char * public_key_pointer = public_key;
        if (NULL == d2i_RSA_PUBKEY(&rsa_struct_ptr, &public_key_pointer,
                                   PUBLIC_KEY_SIZE))
            printf("Creation of RSA public key structure FAILED!\n");
            return -1;
         * Verify the signature against the hashed data that was previously
         * signed with my private key.
        if (!RSA_verify(NID_sha1, hashed_data, HASHED_DATA_SIZE,
                        signature, SIGNATURE_SIZE, rsa_struct_ptr))
            printf("Signature verification FAILED!\n");
            return 1;
        printf("Signature successfully verified.\n");
        return 0;
    I have translated the above program to Java as follows:
    import java.io.File;
    import java.io.RandomAccessFile;
    import java.security.KeyFactory;
    import java.security.Signature;
    import java.security.PublicKey;
    import java.security.spec.X509EncodedKeySpec;
    public class JSSEDemo
        public JSSEDemo()
        public static final void main(String [] args)
            // Thorough exception handling omitted for simplicity.
            try
                // Read raw data from files into respective byte arrays
                byte[] hashedData =
                    new byte[(int) (new File("c:\\hasheddata.bin").length())];
                new RandomAccessFile("c:\\hasheddata.bin",
                                                     "rw").readFully(hashedData);
                assert(hashedData.length == 20);
                byte[] signature =
                    new byte[(int) (new File("c:\\signature.bin").length())];
                new RandomAccessFile("c:\\signature.bin",
                                                    "rw").readFully(signature);
                assert(signature.length == 128);
                byte[] publicKey =
                    new byte[(int) (new File("c:\\pubkey.bin").length())];
                new RandomAccessFile("c:\\pubkey.bin", "rw").readFully(publicKey);
                assert(publicKey.length == 162);
                // Create java.security.PublicKey object from the publicKey
                // byte array.
                X509EncodedKeySpec x509PublicKeySpec =
                                               new X509EncodedKeySpec(publicKey);
                KeyFactory keyFactory = KeyFactory.getInstance("RSA");
                PublicKey pubKey = keyFactory.generatePublic(x509PublicKeySpec);
                assert(pubKey.getEncoded().length == 162);
                // Create java.security.Signature object and verify signature.
                Signature sig = Signature.getInstance("SHA1withRSA");
                sig.initVerify(pubKey);
                sig.update(hashedData);
                if (sig.verify(signature))
                    System.out.println("Signature successfully verified.");
                else
                    System.out.println("Signature verification FAILED!");
            catch(Exception exception)
                System.out.println(exception.toString());
    And this Java one does not work, as the call to sig.verify() always returns false. Can anyone tell what I'm doing wrong?
    - Michael

    OK, I thought I'd post the answer in case anyone (most likely, OpenSSL users) ever has a similar problem and comes across this thread while searching the web or something:
    Note that in the code samples I used the variable name hashed_data/hashedData to describe the actual data against which my signature needs to be verified. I called them that because the data in that variable is not the original text string, but rather the 20-byte result of SHA1 hashing that original text string. Of course, it is this 20-byte hash result that is the thing that actually gets signed, and then against which the signature is later verified.
    Because of that, when you call RSA_verify in OpenSSL, you pass it not the original text string bytes, but rather the 20-byte SHA1 hash of that text string. That hash is what is actually going to be checked in the end, so that's what it expects as input. I was (erroneously) expecting the same thing in JSSE. Thus, when I called Signature.update() to give it the data to be verified, I gave it not the original text string bytes, but rather the 20-byte SHA1 hash of that text string, paralleling what I do in OpenSSL.
    However, in JSSE, since you create your Signature object with "SHA1withRSA", it's smart enough to be able to accept the actual original text bytes and know to do the SHA1 hash on that for you. So since I had SHA1 hashed my string myself first, then passed that hash result into update(), my data ultimately got hashed twice, and that's why the signature verification didn't work.
    I don't see anything in the Signature javadoc that makes it explicitly clear that the SHA1 hash will be taken care of for you. However, I'll grant that this may simply be because doing it that way is actually what is intuitive. Had I not been coming out of a "this is how I did it in OpenSSL" background, I probably would have fully expected it to work exactly the way it does in JSSE, and never would have had a problem.
    Oh well, at least the problem is solved. So I can say that I did get my $50 worth from Sun's paid support service.

  • Reading each keystroke from a console app?

    I'm using Sun JDK 1.3.0_02 on RedHat Linux 7.1.
    I've written a console application (no GUI, no Swing), from which I need to read each keystroke from the keyboard as it is typed.
    My loop basically waits (blocks) on System.in.read(), and disposes of each byte as it is read.
    Unfortunately, the way the app executes, my Java app doesn't seem to be given any keyboard input until the user presses ENTER. In addition, each keystroke is echoed to the console display, which I don't want.
    Can anyone point me in the right direction to solve this? I can't use any GUI components as this needs to be a console app.
    Thank you,
    Bryan

    This can be fixed with a tiny JNI program. As long as the 'c' call getch() works the same on all platforms:

    Has anyone a clue where I should look? Are there features in the 9.0.3 Mapping Workbench not yet supported in 10.0.3?
    Do I need to make settings in 10g before attempting the import/conversion?
    Could there be a wrongly set Classpath?
    When attempting to have the 9.0.3 generated deployment-xml file for this application interpreted using the 10g toplink.jar, I receive the following error:

  • NT security problems with file I/O

    I have 2 problems with file I/O. When I read from a file I use the getAbsolutePath() method that is part of the File class to find what directory the files are currenlty. The problem is that the returned path says that the file is on the desktop no matter what directory the file really is in. The second problem is that I am unable to save files anywhere but the desktop. I must run the class files from the desktop too to get it to work.
    I am using NT 4.0 for development. I'm guessing that these problems might be NT security related. Could someone help me?

    I doesn't seem that anyone here really knows the answer. I moved my question to this post here:

    I have some images posted so you can see what I am talking about.

  • Scanner input  VS keyboard input

    Dear all,
    We have a webdynpro application that receives it's input from a usb barcode scanner. The screens are working fine, but now there's an extra requirement, that for some input fields, it's mandatory that the input is coming from the scanner, and not from manual input with the keyboard.
    Is it possible?
    The barcode scanner behaves as an input device, without triggering events or so, so at this moment, we don't really know if the input is coming from a scanned barcode or from manual input with the keyboard.
    Kind regards,
    J.
    PS: the scenario is where the web dynpro application runs on a desktop or laptop, so the alternative for handheld with barcodereader UIElement is not an option to solve this.

    Hi
    Please explain this point again :  the scenario is where the web dynpro application runs on a desktop or laptop, so the alternative for handheld with barcodereader UIElement is not an option to solve this.
    With external hardware device(Thumb print reader , Signature pad  ) it has set of API which we  can incorporate inside our application , challenging part is whether
    such sort of solution is there in webdynpro or not , alternatively we can use JSP with java script to handle this  with using IFRAME UI (which is deprecated) or webwidgetUI element (might available in 7.2 ).
    further with your point
    The barcode scanner behaves as an input device : Yes by default is get its place to write , we have to highlight that input field with current cursor position.
    Hope you get some help?
    Best Regards
    Satish Kumar
