Reader 9: Smaller Fonts Are Illegible

Ever since "upgrading" to Reader 9, I find the text in smaller fonts to be nearly illegible at full screen mode, and that I must enlarge the image to at least 300x in order to read those fonts. Has anyone experienced this problem and, if so, have you been able to correct it? (I use two 19" diagonal HD monitors, and the problem is the same on both screens. Reader 8 had no such issues. The text with which I have the greatest problem is that published by Investor's Business Daily).

I can say with 100% certainty that since Reader X is now the latest release, there will be no more "fixes" for reader 9.

    I have installed ttf-ms-fonts, ttf-dejavu, ttf-liberation and ttf-tahoma.

If I zoom out a bit in Firefox I get which isn't perfect but is quite readable.  The interesting thing is that I don't have the nasty looking serif font in the text box.  Is one of us missing an installed font?

  • Why does Apple support print those "Hello" booklets that came with my new iMac in super small fonts?

Yesterday I purchased the latest available 27inch iMac from my local Apple only dealer.     ( It sure beats my very first Mac which was an LC520. )
The included in the box printed quick start guide named "Hello" was printed using a font size very close to zero.
Who are these people at Apple support that can read such small fonts with using 20X powered magnifying lenses
    Are they somewhat...
What a waste of mony Apple!

I think it's a point worth making.  It is virtually unreadable.
On reflection, I'm wondering if there is an obligation in some countries to provide such information with a device.   This could be Apple's way of complying while spending the absolute minimum.

  • 17" Small Fonts?

So i posted earlier about whether or not to go with a 17" or 15" Macbook Pro and i am still undecided. So far i love the larger display of the 17" but i like the convenience and portability of the 15". It seems that the 17" would be a hassle to lug around seeing as i am in college from class to class, not to mention it take sup more space. But it does have an 8hr battery life with 1000 charges with is impressive, not to mention 2 graphics cards and expandable to 8 GB RAM (which i don't think i will ever need in the near future) which would be awesome for my video editing i will be doing. But i keep hearing about how everything is smaller, fonts are hard to read and ti causes an even more of an eye-strain. For anyone that knows someone who owns a 17" or has one...what should I do? is it worth it? Or should i save my money a go for a 15"? What are the pros/cons of each?

lugging a 17" around to class, to me, is going to be a pain, esp. if the desks aren't very big or tight seating previals. They are also heavier on your shoulder.
I did it with a 15" powerbook, one thing I hated with that machine. Overall wasn't too bad, as the PC people always left their machines behind
the 2.66 or faster unibody 15" will take 8gb ram too & EDU price for extra battery is $119.
screen res is up to you. I actually don't care for the high res screen myself, but check out a local reseller to see if they have one in stock. even the older high res model will do for the screen test.

lookup a reseller via zip code.

  • Fonts are TOO BIG

It gripes me that when listing the podcast recordings that are in each podcast group, that the font size used by the iPhone is way too big and you cannot read very much of the description.
The phone has such great image quality that even small fonts are easy to read, and they could show much more of the description.

I have done both, doesn't fix it unfortunately
    EDIT:
I just tried AGAIN and it worked... Dont understand why but its fine now. For everyone wondering:
    - disable custom dpi
    - close appearance
    - enable again
    - restart
    is what worked for me.

  • Reader X : Wrong Fonts (was working with Reader\Pro 9 and Pro 10)

    Hi all,
First : this form pdf work with adobe Reader 9 and Acrobat Pro 9\X
i did a pdf form with scribus, i embed 2 fonts : 3of9barcode and freemono bold fonts.
    (compatibility PDF 1.5 (acrobat 6) )
My client update to Reader X and the problem is that the fonts are 'squares' and the barcode is text not barcode.
When i do look at the properties in reader X, it founds the embedded fonts. There is no error when opening it.
no console errors or Reader error.
If i open the document with Pro X , there is no problem, the fonts are good. i try to save a copy, an optimized copy, or a copy with limited rights,
but the result is the same, when i open the pdf with Reader X the fonts are bad.
i tried ton install the fonts on Windows but it does not help...
Do you have any clue ???

I have exactly the same problem!!!
I create and layout my forms in scribus and adjust them in Adobe 9 Pro. Setting the tab order and having the possibility to make fillable forms saveable are gorgeous. However, people who use ReaderX cannot work with these very forms anymore because there appears only squiggly squary rubbish in the fillable form fields instead of nice and clean Times Now Roman font. In Reader 9 everything worked fine. I cannot force everybody to go back to version 9, in order to be able to work wth the forms.
    It's so annoying, please help.

  • Problem displaying small fonts

I am working with the default font in my Flex app. When the
font is set above size 8, everything looks fine and as expected.
But when I make the font size = 8, the text goes blurry and grayed
out, looking the same as if the enabled property were set to false.
If I set the Windows smooth edging option to ClearType (Control
Panel, Display properties, Appearance tab, Effects button), the
problem goes away and small font sizes look fine. This is not the
default setting in Windows, so any user would have to set this
themselves to view the Flex app correctly, so that's out of the
    question.
Is there some sort of setting to fix the way small fonts are
displayed? I tried the fontAntiAliasing property at "normal" and at
"advanced" at the Application level, with no luck with either. I'm
currently setting the fontWeight to bold for all size 8 text, and
it does the trick, but I'd prefer not having bold text everywhere.
Any help is always much appreciated.

    Hi Nayeem,
You need to use a UNICODE font and one that is not Licensed, CR will not embed licensed fonts into PDF files. Odd that it doesn't work in Word though.
Not sure what OS you are using but in XP go into Control Panel, Regional and Language Options and click on the Advanced tab and check on the option to Apply all setting to.... in the default user account area. Then go to the Languages tab and check on the option to Install Files for east asian languages. We have a dependency on that option as of R2. It adds about 10 meg of files so you'll need your Windows CD.
    Thank you
    Don

  • HT2513 ICal works great but the fonts are small and hard to read unlike Outlook. Any suggestions?

I have a MacPro and use ICal. I loke OUtlook because I can see it better and it is frankly more pleaseng to the eye. And the fonts are large enough. Of course, other than than Outlook is a nightmare on the lack of syncing etc...
I am resigned to using ICal but is there a way to change it's look? Or an emulation program that will use ICal but present it better on the screen?

Many of your points are totally legitimate.
    This one, however, is not:
…To put it another way, the design of the site seems to be geared much more towards its regular users than those the site is supposedly trying to "help"…
The design and management of the forums for more than five years have driven literally dozens of the most valuable contributors and "regulars" away from the forums—permanently.
The only conclusion a prudent, reasonable person can draw from this state of affairs is that Adobe consciously and deliberately want to kill these forums by attrition—without a the PR hit they would otherwise take if they suddenly just shut them down.

  • After the recent update the entire browser, including menus, icons, and everything on the web page, are too small. Fonts are smaller, pics are smaller, zoom settings will not remain universal. Minimum font size will make text readable, but all pics are to

The new update has screwed up my browser settings, I cannot get them fixed and Im pissed because my computer is an eye-sore to read until this is fixed! EVERYTHING in the browser is smaller, fonts, menus, icons, web page content, pictures, tables, etc. I have set the minimum font in the settings and the text is just to a point where it is easily readable at the maximum size setting, but all the menus and icons are still tiny and hard to read. The last version I had installed worked fine with no add-ons needed. Everything fit the screen fine and was easily readable without modification. I want this version off my PC and I want the last version I had back on but I dont know what version it was!!!!!!! ARARGGGG
In fact, this stupid troubleshooting window that I am in filling out this form doesnt fit the page right at all, and edges of the text are cut off, so Im not even sure what some of these boxes are asking for!!

See [[Toolbars and page content appear too large after upgrading to Firefox 3]]
*Try to adjust the DPI setting, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/layout.css.dpi
*Try to set the pref layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to 2 on the about:config page.
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

The only way to increase the fonts on your desktop would be system wide by going down a notch on the resolution. Some people won't do it because it increases the pixel size so the fonts won't be quite as sharp; I decided I'd rather have that than having to squint continuously. Go to System Preferences > Displays > Scaled > this will give you all resolution options available. No harm in trying - just check the default (top) choice again if you don't like any of the others.
It's a b*&^ch getting old .  I still use the screen zoom instead of decreasing resolution, but maybe soon ...

  • MacBook Pro fonts are impossible to read

My Macbook Pro has a 17" screen and a default resolution of 1200x1900.
The fonts are so small that it is impossible to work with.
Leopard had a feature on its list that would fix this, I lost track of this feature (I guess Apple dumped it in the Trashbin, to release the IPhone in time). Is there a solution out there, one that enables me to work on my new Macbook?

I do agree that the zoom is not useful. And I also agree that UA is not all that it should be. Why not have a magnifier for the menu bar like you do for the dock? Why not be able to set a font size preference that would work for any window? I really hate to say this, but the much despised WIN 98 that my mother-in-law had seemed to have better settings for the visually impaired. Even my Dad's Win ME is better. He is legally blind with some remaining vision, and I was able to set up his computer so he could see it a lot better. And I think the high contrast mode that these systems had worked a lot better than the Apple slider. Maybe it's time for some Feedback to Apple.
It's little comfort, but I did find a way to make some of Finder better. Click on the Finder icon and then on View and then on View Options. You can increase some of the text to 16 point. Unfortunately, this does not work on the left column, which remains tiny. I don't know why there's no way to make it bigger.
Here's hoping they will add the solution they had in a future update!

  • JTextArea uses a small font that i cant read

I tried viewing a few examples of java swing applications but everytime i see a JTextArea on them the font on it is really small and hard to read. (I think it uses new courier, size 9 according to an application i tried to make on NetBeans)
apparently it doesn't happen on application that use the windows look and feel and look like a native program.
This also happens on two computers i own and also on my friends computers.
    I am using java 6u12.
    Windows xp sp3.
All the computers i tested this on are set to hebrew locales. but the last time i tried changing the locale thinking this was the problem it didnt help.
What is causing this, and is there any way to fix this?

something is still causing it to have a really small font. That something is in its source.... you can't change it (though you can, by changing it and compiling it once again yourself)
    1. JTextArea has small font under windows look and feelTry running following program to check the font of text area in different look and feels:

Why are the graphics/page in facebook suddenly smaller font and images? Is not happening in IE and screen resolution is correct.

I heard back from Nike+ support and they said that there will be newer pics soon and it also appears that this corrected itself for my runs, but not the user pic, I only get girly options, I wouldn't mind a picture of a guy on 'ROIDS!!! Just kidding, but something less feminine or cartoon like, I'm trying to be serious about this and the site should reflect that.
