Reader 9 & X will not install

I am getting the below errors when trying to install Adobe Reader.  Either 9 or X.  It is also the same dll file that crashes IE9 randomly also.
I have run malwarebytes, Symantec, Hijackthis, TDDSKiller, GMER and I have no idea what is going on.
I can find NO references online to the channtui.dll at all.
Any help greatly appreciated!

Try the Reader forum. In general, you have to be logged in as an administrator and have anti-virus disabled for the installs. These conditions are common to many software packages.

  • Adobe Reader 9 will not install reporting installatiom package could not be opened

I have WIN XP PRO with SP3. This is a new machine and is running beautifully except Adobe Reader 8 or 9 will not install.
At about 94% done the Adobe Download manager stops and shows the following Windows Installer message
The installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer Package.
Of course when I click OK. I get the message from the downloader that "Installation operation completed successfully". Which of course is not true.
Can any one explain what is happening, and how I should address?

Thanks for the help. Your solution to unregister and register msiexec did not resolve the problem, but it got me thinking and I continued looking down this line of thought through the Microsoft KB articles. There I found a comment per security rights authorization. I had been using an account with administrator rights, but I tried again using the actual administrator account. This worked fine. Adobe 9 is installed and running.

  • Internal Card Reader Driver Will Not Install -- Pavilion g4-1319tu

    1. Product Name and Number: HP Pavilion g4-1319tu
    2. Operating System installed: Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit
    3. Error message: none
    4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred: none
At first my card reader did not show up at all in Device Manager until after I actually inserted an SDHC card yesterday 17 jUNE 2012. Windows recognized the card and installed its own driver, Microsoft driver version 6.1.7600.16385 dated 21/6/2006, with the device's manufacturer being listed also in Device Manager as only "(Standard disk drives)" at Location 0, with the status shown as "This device is working properly". The card reader worked (and still works) and appears -- but only with the SD card inserted, otherwise it does not appear at all -- in both in Device Manager and in Computer>Devices with Removable Storage. I went to HP's Support Wizard site to update the driver. The site detected my product correctly and offered an update, "Realtek Card Reader Driver -Version: 6.1.7601.85" (sp55030) to download. I downloaded it and installed it. The newly downloaded driver shows up in Programs and Features. However, even after many uninstall / re-install attempts, the new driver version refuses to show in Device Manager's driver properties for the device. It also does not show when in Device Manager I try to manually update by "Browse my computer for driver software>Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer". All that shows is the old generic Microsoft driver named above. If while in Device Manager, I try to update the driver manually by "Browse my computer for driver software>Search for driver software in this location (folder where it is saved on my notebook)", it shows, but still will not update / install. A message pops up saying there is no driver in that location. In addition, after I eject and physically remove the SD card from my notebook, the device and driver also disappear from Device Manager until I re-insert the card, even when Device Manager is set to "Show hidden devices". Please advise.

  • Adobe Reader update will not install?

I have a ASUS laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1/64-bit OS
I have my computer set to receive & install updates automatically for Adobe products. I have an Adobe Reader install program that will not complete it's install. The install program starts to install but
then it just gets stuck (the bottom picture is where it gets stuck) & will not complete the install. The top picture is the message that appears after 15 or more minutes of the bottom picture Any suggestions on how I can complete the install would be appreciated. I added a couple of screen shots. Thanks

  • Reader X will not install

    Hey all,
I have Vista 64bit service pack 2. I download the installer exe program fine. After trying to run it, nothing happens. It does show up under task monitor processes but with no activity. I have tried 3 browsers, IE9, Chrome and Firefox. All with the same result. I had reader 9 and kept getting a message to install 10 and it would not work so I uninstalled 9 and now have no reader. I also have no Adobe entries when using Windows Install tool. I also have tried disabling my Avast AV program and then turning it off all together with msconfig. Also when I go to the direct download link I can put in my OS but it will not let me put in language or version. The same thing happens when trying to get an older version. I also tried adjusting my IE9 security settings per this site help files.
Any sugestions on what to try from here? I do have Flash player 10 ActiveX, Flash player 10 plug in and Spelling dictionaries Support for reader 9. Maybe uninstall some or all of these?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You may want to try the following.
Remove  all traces of Reader (not only the program) from your system using  the  Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. This is no longer supported by  Microsoft because it can produce problems with Win 7, but you can still download it from from places like
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
Then, download the Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
    and perform a clean install.

  • Adobe Reader 9 will not install on MacBookPro

After downloading the proper Adobe Reader 9 for my MacBookPro (Intel processor), I get the message " Adobe Reader 9 cannot be installed on this computer. Make sure your system meets the requirements." Anyone else have the same problem? Please help.
    Suresh

OK, I just realized the mix up in my earlier posting/s :-(
The *****.ppc.pkg is the powerpc version which I had downloaded earlier and the ******.i386 is the intel version which is the correct version for my MacBookPro. I use Firefox browser, and at first I thought that since Adobe was not in its list of allowed sites, it was preventing installation. However that is not the case, since the problem persists even after I added Adobe to the list of allowed sites, and even when I downloaded using Safari!
Mike, yes, I have rebooted a number of times, but have not yet tried to reinstall the OS from the disc. I do not quite understand what you mean by different administrative user; I am the only user. I just downloaded applejack and supposedly it was installed on volume HD, but I do not see it anywhere! Another mystery.

  • Reader 9 will not install with Elements 3.0

    Running Win XP Pro SP2
Have Reader 7 and Elements 3.0 installed and running. Have successfully downloaded Reader 9 to "My Documents" however clicking to run the install brings up Elements 3.0 Install Shield Wizard. Tried running this through and it appeared to re-install Elements 3.0. At the end of the process no Reader 9 and Elements 3.0 appears to be still running OK.
Anyone any ideas on how to install Reader 9? Many thanks.

De-install Adobe Reader 7 and Elements 3.0. Install Adobe Reader 9.

    dannsfish,
We have thousand of people that participate on the forum on a given day. All have different interests and knowledge. The people that read your post may have no idea how to help. We are fellow users, not official Adobe support staff. Your original report didn't give people much to go on. As you now given us information like your OS, we can recommend the Reader/Acrobat Cleanup Tool that removes all traces of previous versions of the software for Windows users.

This frequently helps people that are having install issues on Windows. There is a separate forum where people that use FlashPlayer may be able to help you with your issue with that software.

  • Adobe reader 9 will not install

    Hi all
I need some help, I run a Vista 32 bit PC, Adobe updater has tried to update the reader from version 8.1.2 to 9, it downloads new files successfully, activates the installer almost completes to 99.9% then stops with an error! See the alert box message given below.
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package AcroRead.msi
When I close this error box I get another message saying there was an error 1714 older version of adobe 9 could not be removed.
Likewise there is a copy of adobe 8.1.2 which I am unable to uninstall from the control panel programs and features any help to this solution would be much appreciated.
    Thanks James

    Hello:
I have had trouble upgrading Adobe Reader 8.1 for many days.
So, I had never deleted previous releases (i.e Release 6/7 or versions either) so I went back and removed all Adobe Reader releases through the Control Panel.
I attempted to load Adobe Reader 8.1.2 and received the following message: Error 1316. A Network error occurred while attempting to read from the file: C:\Windows\Installer\Rdr60ENU.msi
The system backed out all changes and now I am without any Adobe Reader. I do not know what to do as I could not find this error message in the Knowledgebase Search database.
    Please advise

Try in IE select run.  Nothing!
lIke the laptop doesn't wanna take it.  Tried 9 same thing.  Tried to install the whole version of x and nothing.  Everything else works fine
No problems with my 2006 xp w/original vid drivers getting X to go in.  If I take adobe out completely I'm afraid it wont even take it back!  I've ended reader_sl.exe and still nothing.  I've tried all the links on the help page.  Tried direct from 8 and still nothing.
It's like vista doesn't like it so it just spits it right out.  Unless AVG Free 2012 deleted the installer which I can't find in pgms.  So I'm at a loss.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Unless they're having issue like the help page said...  I don't know!

I have the Mac OS 10.9.4  I am unable to read PDF's, so thought I would download the latest version of Adobe Reader.  It will not install.  Is it comparable with my Mac OS?

    More information would be good.
What do you mean by "unable to read PDF's". How are you trying to read them and what exactly happens when you try?
so thought I would download the latest version of Adobe Reader.  It will not install.
    Again, what exactly is happening?
And yes, the latest version should be compatible with your OS.

camera raw 7.2 will not install within CS5.5, but need it to read nrw files from P7700. Besides DNG Converter, what can I do to use files directly?

Your next option is to upgrade photoshop. If you can't afford the full version (less than $20/month) you could get elements, it uses the latest version of camera raw, but I think it is a stripped down version though.
