Reader drop-down menus have invisible content

I'm running 9.4.7 on Ubuntu 11.10. The Reader drop-down menus either have no text in them or the text is the same colour as the background. I've tried changing the Ubuntu theme but the problem remains.

Found an option to make the workaround permanent.
Run Terminal.
Paste this "cd /etc/X11/Xsession.d" (no quotes).
A edit file would open separately.
Paste this "export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY="acroread":$UBUNTU_MENUPROXY" in the Editor window.
Save the File.
Exit Terminal.
Do a fresh Login.
The menu option would appear below the Taskbar but would be working.
Tested in Ubuntu 11.10 with Reader 9.4.7

  • ITunes opens but without any text showing.  Drop down menus have text but not the app itself. I have a Mac Powerbook Pro running Windows XP under Boot Camp.

Running under Windows XP,  a few upgrades ago iTunes started opening without any text showing in the application.  Clicking on PLAY will play music but no text shows to indicate what's playing and no text to show music library. Drop down windows show text but not the app itself.
Subsequent upgrades and reinstalls have not corrected the problem, When I run under iOS (Snow Leopard), iTunes opens with text and runs correctly.
    Help!

Because I created FAT32 partition using Boot Camp tool few days ago I installed my custom copy of Windows XP with SP3, IE7 and WMP10 integrated using nLite (for WMP10 integration use RVM Integrator). I did not use Boot Camp tool this time - I just booted CD using Option key. Then I installed Boot Camp 2.0 drivers you can find on Mac Disk 1. After this I installed Boot Camp drivers 2.1 update. In Add or remove Programs I checked drivers - I uninstalled old drivers which call identical, but you can skip this. Everything works fine BTW it is better to format your partition to NTFS - you have much less disk errors, you do not waste time for disk errors scans during Windows startup, your data are much more safe. If you need NTFS write permissions use great tool Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX or open source NTFS driver.

  • Double Drop-down Menus

Suddenly, on my 17" MBP, the drop down menus have doubled the choices. What I mean is that when I click on the Apple on the upper left for example, instead of the menu showing "About this Mac", "Force Quit" etc., or when clicking on Safari instead of "Preferences", "Private Browsing", "Quit", etc. I see each of these choices twice! If I click on one, the chack mark appears on both.
And on the screen, whenever anything pops up that gives me an opportunity to click it, a black box appears around the button I am supposed to click. The box stays there until I click somewhere else on the screen.
I do not notice any performance issues, but wondering what the heck this could be about. I've rebooted, turn off & back on, etc., and that didn't change things.
    Thanks

OK, the problem is most likely isolated to your main User Library then. It's probably a corrupt preference file. Read this for troubleshooting it.

  • Drop down menus not working

Hi, I am using DVDSP2.0.0 - it has been working fine for ages then suddenly about half of the drop down menus have stopped working - for example if I go to the "First Play" drop down menu in the "Disc" window and click on it - it goes blank. Any help on this would be much appreciated. NB: I recently did a software update including going up to OSX 10.11.4 and also a Pro application support update.

No-one from Apple, apart from the moderators, reads this forum. If you need to send feedback about a product there are alternative places to do so, which will be more effective than ranting here.
V2 has been quite a long time outdated now, and I don't think it is unreasonable to update your software to keep up with the developments in the OS. The software depends on Quicktime for a lot of the things it does, but changes to the QT architecture with successive OS updates are not backwardly compatible with older QT releases. QT6 is a different beast to QT7, for example. The only way to reliably keep older software running is to not update the OS.
That said, I do still occasionally see if DVDSP v1 still runs and the machine I have that on has 10.4.x on it... yet I installed it at 10.0.x, I believe. Amazing really, but then it is a different set of code to v2.
The other thing to consider when menu entries go AWOL is whether or not you have any font management software running, and if you have inadvertently turned off any fonts which the software uses.
Finally, if you have the older OS on a disc, can you not simply downgrade until such time as you get to a point where the upgraded FC Suite makes sense for you?

  • IMac freezing on drop down menus

Hey all, odd behavior from my generally-solid iMac. It's a 2007 aluminum and still chugging along nicely, only it's started behaving oddly over say the past week.
On 3 occassions, drop down menus have siezed it completely, forcing a hard restart:
    • Once when control-clicking a file on the desktop to try to select "move to trash."
    • Once (today actually) in an email message when clicking the attachment icon (froze as the finder/select menu started to come down)
    • Once when control-clicking a file for "open with"
I've run repair disk. There were issues there, but completed the repair. Not sure what's causing this or how to alleviate it. It is odd that it's happened 3 times in a week having never exhibited this problem before. Any ideas for why, or better, a solution? Thanks.

I'm having a similar problem but within the Adobe Suite CS6. Everything works fine except for the small drop-down panel menus - no problems with menus in any other programs.
Like Cory mentioned, perhaps there is a .plist or something we need to trash - any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • How do I get spry drop down menus to display infront of my content?

    Hi,
I am currently using DW CS4 to create a website for a uni project. I have created a Spry Menu bar which displays correctly when I preview it however I have uploaded a few pages to my site to test them and the drop down menus disappear behind my content. Is there any way I can fix this?
My web address is www.nataliemiddlemore.110mb.com if you want to have a look. There is currently only 3 pages uploaded.
Also the drop down menus do accross the page horizontally rather than drop down underneath each other. Is there a way to fix this?
I would be very grateful for any help and am only a beginner so keep it as simple as possible for me.
    Thankyou in advance.

You have used Absolutely Positioned Divs for your primary content. AP Divs are (by definition) taken out of the normal flow of the page. When they are in the code after the menus, they might show in front of them. I did not experience that on my system, however.
I don't see any overriding reason...beyond the thought that AP Divs are easy to make and place...for using AP Divs. Your page structure is very stable, and normal relatively-positioned Divs should work just fine.
As to the drop down menus trailing horizontally across the page, control the width of this: ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul to contain the left-floating list items. That style selector shows up in the SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css stylesheet. The submenus should then fall vertically.

  • My 27 inch imac has just started acting weird, the thumbnail images and folder on the desktop have disappeared although the titles are still visible. When I open a programme the programme windows are all black and the drop down menus just show random

When I tried to open the web browser the browser flashed black and white at start up, then all the applications when i open a new window are completely black, I am unable to view the drop down menus as the come out as random pixels. This happens to all new applications i have been able to open. The document window opens as plain white but if you click on it  it opens a document even though you cant see any thumb nails. Some of the documents are open as normal images/files. Having been a mac user for 10 years i have never seen anything like this before, any ideas or suggestions

I have started running a virus check.
There are no viruses for OSX.  Uninstall the software, repair permissions and restart your computer.  Especially if it's Norton's.  It's known to cause problems.
To rule out a hardware problem, run the hardware test:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11342 OS X Mountain Lion: Use Apple Hardware Test and zapp the PRAM:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11342 OS X Mountain Lion: Use Apple Hardware Test.
In the end you may need to lug your iMac down to your local AASP or an AS.  Diagnostic testing is FREE!
i have had a mac in fact it is 17 years.
You got me beat by 3 yrs.

  • How to stop Ad. Reader XI erroneously opening copy of working file on top of original when cursor nears drop down menus, covering them?

Over the last two days, after opening any document in A R XI, as soon as the cursor nears the drop-down menus, another unwanted copy of the original document opens on top (but slightly offset from) that completely obscures the menu options. The original file is partially visible at the foot of the window but cannot be accessed by clicking.
On occasion a file opens from new without the drop-down menu options being visible. The above happens when I click in the empty space.
There have been slight variations of the above problem but at the moment I have not found a way to work with any pdf file
I can only close the document (and simultaneously the program) via the task bar.
I replaced the 'troublesome' program with a newly downloaded copy but the problem persists. I have scanned for viruses.
Any one with similar experiences find a solution?
    Thanks.

  • 10g Skins and Content HTML - Drop down menus not displaying correctly

Have constructed an HTML Skin with horizontal drop down menu.
Also constructed an HTML Content area with left, middle and right columns (constructed in CSS).
When I activate drop down menus they fall behind the content in the Content area and also has become see-through!
Any suggestions on how to bring them to the front again using the skin/content structure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated (and I am not programmer so please be very clear in your instructions).
    Thanks

  • Have the drop-down menus in Muse been fixed?

I recently had a problem with Adobe Muse (Case #0183888983). I was emailed the information that the problem, malfunctioning drop-down menus in my site, had now been fixed. In the meantime I decided on my own to access an earlier version of Muse through Time Machine and then re-save and publish the Muse site with this earlier version. I'm afraid I don't dare open up the Muse site in this fixed version in case it doesn't work as described, and then I have to go through the tedious process again. So there's no way I can tell if my site would function with the new fixed Muse. The next time I create a new site, I'll be able to determine whether the bug has been fixed.

Muse 3.1 did fix a couple of issues with menu bars.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/muse/release-note/adobe-muse-release-notes.html
If you could be more specific about the problem you were seeing, someone could probably confirm if 3.1 fixes it.

  • I have created a Fireworks nav bar with drop down menus. Can't get the weblinks to save.

I have been trying to add the web addresses in my Fireworks nav bar drop down menus. I can't get them to "take". I add the address, click done and some of them save and some don't. I am pulling my hair out! HELP!

the easiest way is constructing your menu with frame labels
now i have no way of knowing how you are constructing it ..so
this may not work for you ...i assume that you have created a main
button ...that has been converted into a symbol & then
duplicated to create all other buttons
okay here it goes ..i hope i dont confuse you
i will explain how to create 1 button with 4 submenu items
with the trems that i mentioned above
but iam not going to explain all the details of creating a
    whole nav bar
because it just takes too much typing ...i assume you already
    know this
sooo ! ...lets say this is the Portfoio button ...inside the
    symbol now
create 8 layers ...the order is going from top to bottom
    actions
    labels
    submenu Logos
    submenu Illustration
    submenu Animation
submenu Coolstuff ."you will name your button items how you
    like" ...
main button....lets just say Portfolio !
    invisible btn for main button
so now on with the hard stuff
create 20 frames ...stop action on frame 1 ...frame 9
    ...frame 20
on the labels layer now ....name frame1 "Closed" ...frame 10
    "Open"
on the submenu Logos layer ...create a keyframe on frame 10
all frames before the 10th frame will be blank frames
repeat that for the rest of the submenu items
on the main button layer you will just place the main
    Portfolio button on frame 1
& on the invisible button layer ..the inv btn is going to
    be placed on frame 10
all this is iam hoping your have converted everything into1
    symbol
all you need to do know is attach code to the main Portfolio
    button & the invisible button
so click on the Portfolio button
    on (rollOver) {
    gotoAndStop("open");
    invisible button
    on (rollOver){
    gotoAndPlay("closed");
& that should be good ...very simple !
then just repeat this process for every button that makes up
your nav bar ....& it doesn't matter if your inv buttons
overlap each other or your main nav buttons are touching each other
    peace John

  • Invisible menus in firefox drop-down menus e right-click menus

When I do a right click at the address bar, the menu doesn't appear, he stay invisible, and I don't see the options. The same occurs with firefox menu (print menu) and in the options (drop-down menus).

Thanks a bunch! This worked for me, unlike the other solution I've seen floating around which is to disable context menus in your advanced Javascript settings.
