Reader enabled form unable to save-- PLEASE HELP!

Hi
My colleague experienced an issue that I don't know why it happened.
I created a form via Acrobat Pro 9, and reader-enabled it so that she could fill in the information.
Prior to sending her the file, I have tried it using Reader  8 and saved it, and even collecting the info with no trouble.
However my colleague did not have the same easy experience as I.
She said she tried 'saving' it and got a message saying 'she could not save the file but could print it.'  and she can't even 'attach via email' to send this form to me!
I don't know why this would be the case.  Could it be the problem with my form? Or, the version of reader that she had (I am assuming she would have the same version as I since we work at the same organization!)
Can someone please help solve this mystery? I need to send the form out to other people but must fix this before
Thanks so much!
Much appreciated!

Hi GKaiseril:
Answers to your questions:
What product and version was being used by the person who could not save the PDF?  *Not sure but likely Acrobat Reader 8.0
Did you apply Extended Reader Rights or Enabling Comments? *Yes. Extended reader rights.
Did you apply any security? *No security added.
I found out that she was 'adding' changes onto the 'filled' form that I sent her.  Perhaps that form was not reader-enabled or, she has done something that was not allowing her to save.
Is her troubles normal?

When using Adobe Acrobat X Standard and creating a fillable form that uses digital signature, selecting

Is there a way I can use Standard so users can use digital signatures in Adobe Reader?

  • Personalized reader enabled forms

HI, Here is my use case:
    1) Visitor completes an HTML form on website
    2) Info is stored in local db, some transformations are done etc
    3) Some info is then populated into fields of a PDF reader enabled form
    4) pdf saved and emailed to visitor
    5) Visitor enters additional information into the form saves it and and sends to a company rep
    6) Company rep enters additional info in form, saves it and sends back to visitor
    7) repeat 5 and 6 as neccessary.
    8) Form is printed
Where I am at implementing this
    1) I have Acrobat X and have created "reader enabled" form
    2) Using 3rd party tool (ABCpdf) I am able to populate pdf form fields via webserver script
    3) PDF is emailed to visitor
    4) Visitor is unable to enter data because form is no longer "read enabled"
This is were things fall apart.  As soon as the 3rd party tool touches the PDF it is no longer a "reader enabled" form. This is true even if all the 3rd party tool does is "open" and "save" with absolutly not other operations performed on PDF, the simple act of opening and saving disables the "read enabled".  I have spoken with the vendor of the 3rd party tool and says that there is nothing they can do about this.  I have experimented with other tool vendors and the same seems to be true.
    Questions:
    1) If instead of ABCpdf I used the Acrobat SDK would I be able to programmically populate my form while having it remain "reader enabled" ?
    2) If I installed Acrobat on my web server and used the Core API would that work?
    3) Is this what LiveCycle is for?
    4) Looking at the the LiveCycle portion of the Adobe website and it looks like there are many different products. Which is the minimum product for this use case?
    5) Is there a way to use LiveCycle that doesn't involve having the PDF submit the data to the back end directly?  I really do just want the info saved in a PDF.
    6) Since I have no need of digital signatures or some of the other features I have read about with LiveCycle, should I just drop PDF from this use case and use web forms instead?  (I would be done by now if I had started with this option).
Much thanks to anyone who can answer these questions.

Thanks Bernd,  I will look into LiveCycle Reader Extensions.
This is supposed to be a short term solution to help smooth workflow while a full web portal is being developed.  The web portal will provide access for customers, sales, partners, etc.  and emailing pdf's around won't be part of it.   So this solution is supposed to be for the next siz months so I would rater not spend more then a day or two on it and I have already burned a day
"transforming form data (FDF, XFDF, XML), which works much better with Reader, "
Can you tell me more about this?   Is this like shooting an XML file at a PDF for presentation?
    Thanks

  • Reader Enabled Forms with Acrobat 8.0

    Hi,
I am considering upgrading from 7Pro to 8Pro and need to confirm some aspects of the new features for applying reader rights to forms. I have a number of forms generated in Lifecycle Designer 7.1, where the user is using the Reader version to email the XML data.
If I reader enable these forms with Acrobat 8 Pro, will the User be able to still email the XML data and also save the completed form locally? In addition will it be possible to inport and export XML data into & out of Reader Enabled forms?
In addition do you know what the story is with "500 users of the forms"? Is is 500 per form over the lifetime of the form? Some of my forms are distributed to different Clients and I am not sure how this will work
    Any help/guidance gratefully appreciated ;-)
    Thanks, Niall

It should, yes. Can't confirm 100% as I haven't tried.

  • Settings that I need to change so no restrictions on reader enabled forms

    Hi,
I have a reader enabled form that needs to be filled in with a digital signature that needs to be added with a submit button to email to client however I don't want the restrictions. Just wondering what the settings are that I need to change so it only sends the data instead of the whole PDF form (so there are no restrictions) ?
    Cheers

    Thanks.
So I've done the doc as xfdf and even though it still only saves and sends the form data it can still be viewed as a pdf with the new filled in content and printed nicely with the content. This is fine. Is there any expiration date as to how long this data can be view for? And just to confirm there are no restrictions on this plus the designer can use their copy of Arobat to create these forms, not the client? The client can also still view all the submitted forms fine if they don't have acrobat pro?
The only limitation is that signatures will not work.
    Cheers

To get hardware interfaces and API's via hardware you
need to join the MFi program.  That info is here:
    https://developer.apple.com/programs/mfi/
To get the additional software to be able to download
and test code on any iDevice, you must join the
iOS Developer Program.  That info is here:
    https://developer.apple.com/programs/ios/
Both programs require fees and NDA agreements,
especially hardware as most vendors that supply
components development tools will not sell you any
of their tools unless you are a member of the MFi
    program.

  • Can a reader enabled form do this ... ?

I have a flowable Dynamic PDF form that pre-populates form fields based on a schema , etc. <br />It was designed using Live Cycle Designer 8.2 and Acrobat 9.0 . <br /><br />When I am using it with Acrobat - I usually go to <Forms> ... <Import Data> and select the file that I need to load using the file browser dialogue - <br /><br />Can a Reader enabled form - also do this -???????<br /><br />Can you recommend a good close alternative to this capability if tit is not available in Reader 9.0 ?<br /><br />Thanks

It's not about server use. Have you read the information on creating plug-ins for Adobe Reader?
There is a process you need to go through, called the RIKLA process ("Reader Integration Key Licensing Agreement"). Reader will not load plug-ins unless they have a specific certificate embedded in them, and Adobe will not give you this certificate until you have had your plug-in reviewed by their RIKLA team. There is also a cost involved, based on how your plug-in will be used.
It is *highly* recommended you initiate the RIKLA process before doing any development as they have very strict guidelines on what they will and won't approve for a RIKLA key. Make sure you get everything approved by them before wasting time developing something they may turn down.

  • Will a reader enabled form preserve dynamic elements after saving

    Hi there
Following on from my previous question, I began to think about the problem.  Can anyone tell me if a reader enabled form will preserve any dynamic elements once saved by the user?
    Thanks

It should - I dont see why not. What are you trying to do, specifically? Are you working with subforms, and/or the visiblity of elements?

It is 99% hacked/jailbroken iPhone to use a different carrier than intended. You have to put the sim from the original carrier or ask them to unlock the iPhone. We as well as Apple cannot help you with this.

  • Enabling form fill-in & save for Reader

I'm working with Acrobat XI (11.0.10) and created a form (questionnaire). I need others to open it with Adobe Reader, fill it out and be able to save it afterwards. It seems to work with Adobe Reader 11.0.10 but not with Version 10. So I tried to save it with "save as Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in & save)..." However, the error "This document could not be Reader Enabled." popped up. Why isn't it working? Is it since I'm using the trial version?

The trial version is not restricted. Looks like a problem of your form.

  • How do I save a reader enabled form as a "normal" form, or no longer "reader enabled?"

I made a form for my office to fill out and submit that will be used over and over again. Along the way, I got confused and thought I would need to reader enable it. Our IT guy came in and installed the full version of Acrobat on everyone's computers and now when someone tries to attach a document to this form it says they can't because it's reader enabled. How do I change this back to a normal document?

That's a very round-about way of doing it, and I don't see why it should work.
When you open a Reader-Enabled file you should see this option under the File menu:

  • FORMS: Reader Enabled forms are not saving for all users

I have created several fillable forms with both Acrobat Pro 8 & 9. All have been created with Extend Reader Rights In my testing i have success saving the forms in Reader (various versions as old as 7).
After sending the forms out via email the saving functionality is hit and miss for all of our employees. Some can save others cannot. I can't seem to find a common thread as to why this is happening.
All forms are created on a Mac OS X 10.6.1 and then sent out via email to Windows and Mac users about 50/50. Both OS users are having trouble
There is no need to collect the data on a server or anything just trying to make it easier and waste less paper. We don't mind send PDF attachments all the time.
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks!

here is one of the forms that is not working in Reader (except on my wife's PC and another Mac) it is the current PDF form i am having trouble with. If we can resolve the issue then it will help me resolve my other forms too. I have made them all using the same process. (Maybe therein lies a problem)
    Form Creation Process:
Create initial page layout in Pages (mac app for those that are not familiar)
    Export as PDF
Open PDF in Acrobat Pro 9 (started making forms in v8 now i am working in v9 - both have produced this problem)
Run Form wizard, adjust fields, save final version of form
Extend Features in Adobe Reader (via Advanced menu) - Follow steps to save a new Reader Enabled version
Email new RE version to co-workers
All can fill out the form, only a couple can actually save the partially completed / fully completed form for reference, filing, or submission.
Am I missing something? Thanks for all the help so far!
