Reader extended form

Hi,
We have a PDF which was created and javascripted in Designer 7.0
The 1st page of the document has a docReady event which calls a function to display a welcome message box. When the form is opened, this message box is displayed only once.
We sent the document to ADOBE to get certified and apply reader extension. The file we receive is 100 times the original size and when the document is opened in Reader 7.0.1, the welcome message box displays twice (one after the other).
Any ideas on why this happens?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Problem 1: File increasing 100 times after ARES (i.e. Reader extension applied to file).
Solution: Our logo image was bigger than actual size. Making the logo actual size and a static image kept the file size normal.
Problem 2: Opening alert is executed in docReady event. This alert was being shown twice as we have a PRD417 barcode on our forms.
Solution: Bug with Reader and will be fixed in 7.0.5
Thanks

  • Java runtime requirements for clients of Reader Extended forms

    I need to know if there is a minimum Java (JRE) requirement on the client machines to properly interact with a Reader Extended form created with Adobe LiveCycle Designer 9?
    Thank you,

    Thank you Paul and Steve for your quick responses.  I was concerned that the JRE might have been an issue causing some odd behaviors within the form at a certain client.  I guess that I will now have to pursue a different path.

  • Completed reader extended forms coming up blank

    I have an issue with one of my Reader Extended forms (dynamic form created in LCD ES 8.2) and it's compatibility with different versions of Reader.  The problem occurs when the person completing the form has a different version of Reader than the person receiving the completed form.  When the completed form is opened in a different version, the form appears in it's original, incomplete state.  However, the completed form opens correctly if opened with the same version as was used to complete the form.
    All workstations here have either Reader 8.1 or Reader 9.  The order does not seem to make a difference - the Reader 9 completed form cannot be viewed correctly in Reader 8, and vice versa.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Niall,
    Changing the binding to "normal" worked. I was having some issues with the performance speed a few months ago, and one of the tips I read in an article was to turn off subform binding. It didn't have any negative effects on the form, but I did not have the opportunity to test it across multiple versions of reader. Even if I had the opportunity, it wouldn't have occurred to me that it might cause an issue such as this because the form data is not bound to an external data source.
    Thanks for your help!

  • LiveCycle Designer how make full Reader Extended Form

  • Reader Extended form rights issues in Reader X

    Hi all
    I have a form which is reader extended, which is submit to a SOAP message service(just the form XML) after the form has been filled out. This all takes place over an internal network. When we clicked on the submit button in Reader 9, it would ask if you wanted to allow the connection to the webservice, and would send it through once we click "Allow".
    In Reader X however, the gold bar at the top of the form pops up when we click submit, and after choosing to trust the form, it reloads the whole form, and all of the changes made are lost.
    Is there any way to programatically tell Reader X to allow the form to make webservice calls(even if theres a security popup) when the form is first opened?
    Regards
    Ross Malan

    Yes, it can, especially if you are using Reader 8 or 9.  There were some issues with earlier reader versions that required the positive confirmation of the Reader Extensions credential with the certificate revocation list (CRL), which required that it had to go out to the web to fetch the CRL.
    Depending on how deep you want your testing methodology to go, I'd take a virgin windows machine that does not even have reader installed, download or otherwise transfer the RE installer and your form and take it offline.  Then install Reader and open your form.  It should open with the additional rights with no problem.
    But the bottom line is that it is designed to work for your use case.

  • Reader Extended forms are broken in Adobe Reader XI

    We use Livecycle Server 11.0 to enable saving of forms data in our forms. We are receiveing complaints from people using Reader XI that if they reopen a form they are working on, they get the following message. "This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no loner available".
    Is this a known bug with Redaer XI. We have a lot of Licecycle licences and cannot guarantee that users will not use Reader XI.

    is the problem specific to Reader 11 ? not experienced on reader 10 ?
    you could compare the settings of a working Reader 10.x with Reader 11.x where it throws the exception.
    Also ensure that while creating form in designer > File > Form properties> Default PDF render format is set as: Dynamic XML Form.

  • Reader Extending Designer Form in Acrobat Pro 8

    Dear All,
    Last year I managed to put together an organisational survey where users fill in a form created in Designer 7.0 and then hit a submit button which spits all entered data out to an MS Database. It worked great.
    I reader extended this survey to work on adobe reader 7.0 as that was what was installed on most of the client machines at the time.
    Now I am revising the survey for 2008 but running into a problem which has just about got the better of me.
    No matter what I do, running the reader extended form in adobe reader ver x.x does not submit the entered data to the database. Yet if I run it in Acrobat Pro or the preview tab through Designer, it works fine.
    For simplicity, I have created a test form.
    It only has a text field which is linked to a field within an MS database. The MS database only has 1 field.
    The form then has a submit button which contains the following java code for the click event.
    xfa.sourceSet.test.update();
    xfa.sourceSet.test.close();
    app.alert("Worked!!!!");
    Another button (which is set to invisible) contains the following java code
    xfa.sourceSet.test.open();
    xfa.sourceSet.test.addNew();
    which is triggered on the initialize event.
    All works fine until I have to open the form in Acrobat Pro 8 to reader extend it. The saved reader extended version when opened in any reader version, does nothing when clicking the submit button. Yet I know it has been successfully reader extended because when opening in reader 7.0 it says you can save data entered in this form.
    I have tried with Designer 7.0 but same thing.
    When I open the form I created in early 2007 in Reader 7.0 and it works I sit mystified and say "How?"
    The issue is definetly with the reader extending.
    Any guidance will be greatly appreciated as I have exhausted all avenues I can think of.
    Thanking You in advance.
    Daniel

    Acrobat 8 Professional includes LiveCycle Designer 8, so if the form was created with LiveCycle Designer 8 or older, the yes should have the option to edit the form. Acrobat 8 Professional under the menu option 'Forms' will have an option to open the form in LiveCycle Designer. If the form was created with a newer version, there could be some issues with newer features not available in version 8.

  • Is it possible to import data into a Reader Extended PDF created in Livecycle?

    Hi there,
    I make a lot of Reader Extended forms for my company. When I issue form updates, sometimes staff have to re-copy or re-type records into forms with repeating subforms.  I'd like to be able to jumpstart their process by importing from an old, filled-out form, into my new updated form.
    I've found I can do this by making an XML data file of the data from the old form, but I can't import into an Extended from using Adobe Reader. Most of our staff don't have Acrobat, so they aren't able to save data into non-extended forms.
    Is this clear, what I'm asking? Import XML data into Reader Extended form.
    Thanks for any help you can give,
    Laura

    Hi,

  • Importing XML Data into a Reader Extended PDF

    I'm using designer 9 to create a PDF that will import an XML document on initialization and will use that document to populated multiple dependent dropdown lists.
    That's working fine in preview when I use xfa.datasets.data.mydataset to access the XML document and proceed to manipulate the XML with e4x.
    Now I have the form working correctly in designer preview and I want to reader extend the form and configure the data connection to access the XML file dynamically instead of using the preview data.
    I've tried a few methods of accessing the data via a reader extended form and they have all failed.
    I've tried to call importData("local filename") and access the XML file that way. That appears to fail silently.
    I've also tried to embed the XML in a hidden form field and the XML document length apparently exceeds the max character limit so I can't do that.
    So how can I import the XML document on form initialization either through a) importing the data(ideally through a web URL)  or b) embedding the XML document directly in the form somewhere?  Thanks.

  • 500 Limits on Reader Extended Documents

    I would like to post a fillable PDF form to website to collect information from more than 1000 clients.  Is the restriction of 500 unique instances applied if the fillable PDF form I created is not enabled with "reader extension features" (i.e. "Reader Extended PDF" is not enabled when creating and saving the PDF form") but the form is created with fillable fields only?  Can I then collect the filled and saved PDF forms from my 1000 clients who all use Adobe Reader XI (Adobe Reader XI has the new features to fill and save the non-reader extended form)?
    I am very confused because Adobe EULA mentions "Extended Document means a PDF file manipulated by the Software to enable the ability to locally save documents with fill-in PDF forms" and the 500 limited recipients is applied for the "extended document".  So what is "extended document"? Does "extended document" include form without reader extended but with fillable fields?

    Thanks, Dave and George.  I have raised two questions to Adobe to clarify the "500-limit" understanding.  After more than two weeks' routing and explaining my questions, I finally get the clarifications - there is no 500 limit on "non-extended rights but fillable" form.  My questions, and the answers from Adobe "program manager":
    1. Can I collect more than 500 unique instances for the fillable PDF form I created - even though I have not enabled the fillable PDF form with "reader extension features" (i.e. "Reader Extended PDF" is not enabled when creating and saving the PDF form)?
    Answer : Yes, The Acrobat and Reader XI help indicate that the 500 limit applies to Reader-extended forms.
    2. Is the "extended document" mentioned in Acrobat 11 EULA including "form without reader extended but with fillable fields"?
    Answer : No,  Extended document means the document on which extended rights have been applied.

  • Duplicate Pages When Reader Extended?

    I've created a form in live cycle designer es.  It's a 5 page form and 3 of the pages have an "insert page" button in order for the user to add duplicate pages if required.  This functionality seems to work fine until I "Reader Extend" the document.  Once I extend reader rights it creates 6 duplicate pages of the first page.  I can't figure out why.  I've set the "Repeat Subform" to an initial count = 1 and am not sure what other setting could be causing this.  Any assistance is appreciated.

    I woudl need to see the form to figure out what is happening. Can you send the form to non Reader Extended form to [email protected] Also indicate how you are Reader Extending, what version you are using  and what rights you are adding.

    Hello,
    When I try to save a form as “Reader Extended PDF” in Acrobat Pro, I get an error message “This document could not be reader enabled”.
    The steps I’m following are described below:
    1.    Insert electronic signatures
    - In Tasks, click on “Add New Field -> Digital Signature”.
    - Move the square to the place where you want to put the signature and click.
    - Fill in the “field name” with the name of the person who has to sign here.
    - When it is done, click anywhere on the screen.
    - In Tasks, click on “Close Form editing”.
    - Go to menu “File -> Save as -> Reader Extended PDF ->Enable additional features”, click on “Save now”.
    - Fill in the file name and click on “Save”.
    2.    Save the Form
    - In Tasks, click on “Close Form editing”.
    - Go to menu “File -> Save as -> Reader Extended PDF ->Enable additional features”, click on “Save now”.
    - Fill in the file name and click on “Save”.
    I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.0.0 on a W7 workstation
    Here's a screenshot of the problem.
    Thanks a lot.

  • Why can't I save the form I created in Acrobat XI as a Reader Extended PDF?

    I created and saved the document just like I have always done, with form and signature fields.  When I click file>save as>reader extended, it let's me go through and name a new verison of the file, but then says "This document cannot be saved as reader enable."  It gives no reason.  If I can't save it as reader enabled, as I've done in the past with every single form, I'd like to know WHY so that I can fix it.

    I have run into this issue at times too. If you have the original document that you used to create the form saved in a folder in Windows Explorer, try closing Windows Explorer before saving the document with reader extended properties enabled. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesnt. . .

  • Problem trying to make a LC Designer ES4 form "Reader Extended" in Acrobat XI Pro

    I have a form that I created in LC Designer ES4 that I was able to successfully "Reader Extend" using Acrobat XI Pro.  I added a script to the form to allow for the deselecting of radio buttons (which I found on this forum), and now I cannot Reader Extend the form.
    Here are the specifics of my environment:
    Acrobat XI Pro - Ver. 11.0.10
    Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES4 - Ver.  11.0.20130826.2.901444
    Windows 7 Professional, SP1
    Here's the error I am getting in the Acrobat debugger:
    Exception in line 1 of function top_level, script Document-Level:!ADBE::0100_VersChkStrings
    InvalidGetError: Get not possible, invalid or unknown.  Doc.layout:1:Document-Level:!ADBE::0100_VersChkStrings
    This error message appears at the very bottom of the debugger window:
    Unable to find source for Document-Level:!ADBE::0100_VersChkStrings
    Acrobat XI Pro does not allow me to save the new file, and gives this error:
    This document could not be Reader enabled.
    I used the chat support for Acrobat XI Pro, and was told that this is a LC Designer issue.  Since there's no phone support for LC (at least not free), I came to this forum for help.
    Here's the script object (JavaScript) that I inserted into the main subform:
    form1.Main.#variables[0].RBClear_Script_Object - (JavaScript, client)
    var rbs = new Object();
    function handleRBClick(o)
        if (rbs[o.name]==null)
            rbs[o.name]=o.rawValue;
        else{
            if (rbs[o.name] == o.rawValue)
                o.selectedMember().rawValue = 0;
                o.execEvent('change');
            rbs[o.name] = o.rawValue;
    I then call the above function from within a radio button's group list object (not individual items).
    form1.Main.Subform_Stock_Detail.Table2.Row3.Subform_Responsibility.RadioButtonList::click - (JavaScript, client)
    RBClear_Script_Object.handleRBClick(this);
    This all works fine when I preview the form from within LC Designer ES4.  I then open the dynamic PDF form in Acrobat XI Pro, click File, Save as Other..., Reader Extended PDF, then Enable More Tools.
    Acrobat shows the errors at the top of this post within the Acrobat debugger window.  When I close debugger, Acrobat does not allow me to save the new file, and gives this error:
        This document could not be Reader enabled.
    I've been searching for days and cannot find any resolution to this issue.  It appears to me that this is a security related issue, and Acrobat does not like the running of a function within the form.  Just a guess.  I can't think of anything else.
    Anyone come across this issue, and how were you able to fix it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dean

    Although I did not find a cause for the errors, I did find a workaround in my case.
    This only happens when running the Javascript Debugger in Acrobat XI Pro.  If you turn it off, you can Reader Extend the document.  If you turn it on, you have to cycle through all of the debugger errors/warnings using the arrow button in the top left corner of the debugger window, then close that window.  Still not sure what the errors are for, but at least I got the form to work.
