Reader Extensions and Oracle

After discovering Reader Extensions I believe this is my way forward in producing interactive questionnaire from my Oracle Reports.
Has anyone any experience with integrating Reader Extensions with Oracle Forms and Reports?
Thanks

Hi Paul
Okay thanks very much for clearing this up, so basically is this correct:
Adobe Acrobat you can use it to view, save and add attachments to LiveCycle
forms.
Adobe Reader you can use it to view and save LiveCycle forms provided that
it has been Reader Extended in Adobe Acrobat.
If you want Adobe Reader to add attachments to LiveCycle forms you have to
buy a LiveCycle Server (and I wont ask how much that costs!)
Thanks
Darren

  • Reader Extension and Submit Button

    Hi,
I reader extended a form with the Reader extension web application.
The issue is when I start the process in the workspace and my form is open, the submit is not embed anymoe in the workspace.
How could I fix that ?

When a PDF Form is shown in Workspace, the LC server actually attempts to make a modification to the form (called "augmentation") in which a scripting bridge is added to the form. This happens inside the Render Service used to show the form. Workspace needs this to happen so that it can instruct Acrobat/Reader in the browser to hide the submit button, thus allowing the Workspace UI buttons to be used instead. I know that if the PDF Form is signed then LC will not attempt to make this modification in case it breaks the signature. This is what might be happening here because when you reader extend a PDF there is actually a signature applied.
If this is the cause I can think of two suggestions off hand:
    - You might consider Reader Extending the Form on demand as part of your render service by uploading your Reader Extensions Credential (the p12 / .PFX file) to Trust Store and then using it with the Reader Extensions Service in a new version of your render service.
    - You can use LC Designer to add the "Form Bridge" to your form before you reader extend it with the web application and place it in your repository.

  • Difference between LC Reader extensions and Acrobat's Extend Features

    Hello,
is there any difference between the way, how works LC's Reader Extensions service and Acrobat's Extend Features?
We have a pdf form, which we can extend (enable features like saveing filled pdf form) by Acrobat, but extending by LC ES2 service trhrows exception:
ALC-RES-001-019: The input document is not a valid document type for  this operation.
    com.adobe.internal.pdftoolkit.core.exceptions.PDFCosParseException:  Expected 'xref' : 437523
The document was not build by LC Designer nor Acrobat.
    Thanks.

If you go to adobe.com take a look at the the acrobat feature sheet, in particular the one that shows the different features available in Reader vs. Acro Standard vs. Acro Pro. Basically RE enables Reader to use features available in Acrobat Standard. There are tons of features available in Acrobat Pro beyond that, but they are more typically features used by form developers rather than end users.
Sorry Aandi, got to correct you, but RE'ing a PDF can allow it to access a DB via ODBC. However, I would personally recommend you make a web service call and let the server handle hitting the DB if needed. It is much more secure, less work to set up (don't need a local ODBC connection on each client), and easier to work with IMO.

  • Reader extensions and 2d bardcode

    Hi,
If I´m not wrong, even with the licence for 2d barcoded forms, one will always need reader extensions, right? I believe one can purchase only the part of reader extensions needed, or this funcionality is bought when we pay for the 2D barcoded forms?
    Thank you

I have a presentation that I put together on this topic:
    http://my.adobe.acrobat.com/barcodedformsandreaderextensions/
With version 7.x of LiveCycle you do not need to purchase Reader Extensions if you only require Barcoded Forms.
If you do not purchase Reader Extensions at the same time as your Barcoded Forms purchase you will be provided with a "Bundled" version of Reader Extensions that ONLY allows the plain-text decoding of the Barcode technology on your PDF form.

  • Questions regarding Adobe Reader Extensions for Adobe Livecycle.

    Hi,
I'm relatively new to Adobe products, having just started to use Adobe Livecycle over the last couple of weeks. I've produced a set of interactive forms for field engineers to use. When completed, they will submit the xml data via email. However, there will be numerous occasions where they will need to stop in the middle of data collection and come back at a later point to finish, hence the need to locally save the information before submission.
I understand this is where Adobe reader extensions would come in, unlocking this functionality.
At the moment, i'm a bit of a loss on several points regarding how reader extensions work and i was wondering if anybody could fill in the gaps:
    1. Are they seperate modules that bolt in into the main Livecycle application?
    2. As these forms will be used off line, i would like to set the permissions to the pdf locally. From what i read, Reader Extensions is a server product. Is this correct, or can i use Reader Extensions to set these permissions before publishing the adobe form?
    3. Where can i get hold of Reader Extensions and how much do they cost? I have been reading information on similar topics on this forum (dating 3-4 years ago) that say reader extensions are comparitavely expensive to a Adobe Pro/Livecycle licence. ($50,000 upwards) Is this correct? If so, is there a cheaper alternative to achieve the same outcome?
I hope someone can shed some light on these points!
    Thanks in advance.
    Rob

Reader Extensions can be bought as a module in LiveCycle. There is a subset of RE functionality that exists in Acrobat. The ability to save locally is part of Acrobat. In both cases you woudl RE the form before distributing it, hence when the user gets your form they are ready to go. You can download a trial version of the server product. As far as pricing goes you woudl be better to talk to an Adobe salesrep as there are discounts for certain situations as well as different pricing options. If you decide tp gp the Acrobat route you ar limited, by licence, to distribute your form to a max of 500 users.
    Hope that helps

  • Problem of loosing the rights after sending to Reader Extension

I am getting a strange error.
I was having a perfectly working version of Reader Extension and Forms Server. I am creating a dynamic PDF Form using the Forms Server. This form is being updated using the Adobe Reader and then submitted back to my application. I am also using ARES to enable rights for adding comments on the PDF document.
I am using Forms Server 6.0 and also ARES 6.0.
This was working fine with Adobe Reader 7.0 but recently I installed the Adobe Reader updates 7.0.1 to 7.0.3. I am not sure if this is related but suddenly I have started getting the following error:
"This document contained certain rights to enable special features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and these rights are no longer valid. Please contact the author for the original version of this document."
I am getting this error not only on the newly created forms and also for earlier forms to which I had dynamically added rights using ARES. These were the forms which were working absolutely fine earlier.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall Reader on my system and also tried to open the document on a system on which the updates had not been done but this has not solved the problem.
Does anyone have any idea of why this problem could suddenly come up into my application.

    Hi,
We are getting the same error and did not have an evaluation so not quite the same.
What it looks like here is if a computer only has Acrobat 7 Reader on it - we don't get the error but if this is a computer that has another version of Acrobat - ie. 7 professional - we do get the error. We can open up the file intially, fill in the form and do a save or save as and close. When you open up the file again to continue filling out the form - it gives you the exact error noted in this post.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • What matter with a pdf  with Reader Extensions when it's open with Acrobat profesional?

    Hi all
I'm trying to learn about the functionality of LC using Tour de LiveCycle. It is an exceptional documentation!
I'm taked the 2 examples about reader extensions functionnality:
    PurchaseOrderExtended.pdf and PurchaseOrder.pdf
I've open PurchaseOrder.pdf with acrobat profesional and...I could insert comments, save as, signed the pdf...
Opening it with  Acrobat Reader this is not possible
    Then
If the company decide to produce a PDF with the "1, 2, 3" funcionalities of reader extensions but not enabling the "4 and 5" funcionalities.....
Someone that opens this PDF with acrobat profesional has the "1,2,3,4 and 5" functionalities available
    Then
The  functionality strategy of the company based on the pdf it's not operative!
    Where is the mistake?
    TIA

There are two possible philosophies for Reader Extensions:
    1) That it is a scheme to limit the the actions that one can take on a PDF; think of this as a sort of a security profile operation
    2) To provide PDF-based access to capabilities on the PDF without having to buy the full Acrobat Standard/Pro.
Reader Extensions is much more model 2 than model 1.  The goal is to allow people to save filled-in forms, sign pdf or comment on the pdf without having to have the full Acrobat std/pro licensed for their desktop.  So two other things derive from this:
    a) That people who have the full Acrobat version should be able to do anything to the file that they desire
    b) But also that they should be aware of actions that they might take on the PDF that would change the file so substantially that it would lose its rights and the ability of downstream Reader users to act on the file.
This (2, and then a and b) is the basic philosophy of Reader Extensions and Acrobat.

  • Reader Extensions Certificate

I have the Trial certificate which I have added to LiveCycle 2.5. Sure enough, in Reader 9, I can see clearly that it has FormImportExport rights enabled for Production mode, but I get this error message whenever I try to invoke importData:
NotAllowedError: Security settings prevent access to this property or method.
    Doc.importXFAData:-1:XFA:books[0]:form1[0]:Button1[0]:click
...it also states that it has FormFillInAndSave usage rights (and others), but that too does not appear to be the case to me.
I've read quite extensively about these Reader Extensions, and the only conclusion that I have reached is that this only works by using LiveCycle Forms (Server-side); I'm only using LiveCycle ES on my own PC (Client-side). Is this the case?
    Thanks for reading my issue.
P.S. I do prefer not to download the 30day Acrobat trial (1GB), only to realise that I have the same problem, if possible that is.

Thank you for responding.  I tried the certificate from there already.  Just to be sure I re-downloaded it and tried again and got the same error.  Is there anything I might be doing wrong?  I'm not importing from the server, it's a remote workstation through the web adminUI utility.  I also read some documentation that said you could only import .cer files and the download has a .pfx file and a text file.  Any info would be appreciated.

  • Reader extensions vs Document security order

    Hi!
I need to process the document by both the Reader extensions and Document security. If I do first Reader extensions and than certify document, reader extensions becomes invalid. If I certify document first and than proceed reader extensions, big warning about invalid signature is displayed.
    How to solve this problem?
    Thank you,

    The correct order is Certify->ARES

  • Reader extensions render failed. What would be problem?

    Dear All,
The form which I created using designer is working fine with acrobat, but when it opens in adobe reader all the scripts seems to be not working! Do we need to render the form with reader extensions before proceeding with adobe reader? With that assumption I tried to apply rights to the pdf from reader extensions (http://localhost:8080/ReaderExtensions/
)  but it failed to render! What would be problem? – attached the screenshots for your review and feed back

    Hi Paul,
Save offline Script - on button click
    app.execMenuItem("SaveAs");
    and for sending email...
    Page1.btnSendToCustomer::click - (JavaScript, client)
    RealEmail.event__click.submit.target = "mailto:[email protected]?subject=Department of Environment Quality";
    //app.alert(RealEmail.event__click.submit.target);
    RealEmail.execEvent("click");
where btnSendToCustomer is the button for sending email and RealEmail is a hidden button
This is fine with acrobat, but donno why is not working with adobe reader.
Please help me, and also guide me on how to use reader extension and what is the use of that. In the screen shot i attached in the earlier post seems that the credentials are expired, so whats the next step?..do i need to purchase a new credential? if so, from where can i buy that.
I dont have much idea about this, so please help me

  • Can't install Reader Extensions

    Hello, every one!
I'm trying to install ES4 with ReaderExtensions and Barcoded Forms. And I can't access ReaderExtensions after installation, I recieve 404 error.
Here is how I've configured my ES4 installation:

so, I've tried to delete adobe-formdataintegration-jboss.ear from JBoss deploy folder and restart JBoss again.
    Now I can access adminui.
But I still can not access htttp://localhost:8080/ReaderExtensions. I recieve 404 error.
I've tried to examine my environment:

    - adobe-formdataintegration-jboss.ear is surprisingly small: only 2Kb, also, it contains only META-INF folder with application and weblogicapplication xmls. Here is a content of application.xml file:

    - Log files from [root]\configurationManager\log and [root]\jboss\server\lc_sqlserver\log does not contain any errors during ear preparation proccess state.
    - While there are a lot of messages in [root]\jboss\server\lc_sqlserver\log\server.log about deploying adobe-core-jboss, it looks like. there is no messages about any manipulations with adobe-reader-extensions-servlet.
So, how can i fix this issue? How to make reader extensions run, and what should i do to remove  adobe-formdataintegration-jboss error correctly?

Above mentioned EARs aren't the correct one. There should be only three or atleast two(first two) as below :
    adobe-livecycle-jboss.ear
    adobe-livecycle-native-jboss-x86_win32.ear
    adobe-workspace-client.ear
Based on your selection, there might be upto 7 EARs. Once you configure the EARs using configuration manager, they must be present in <LiveCycle directory>\configurationManager\export directory.
LCM also displays this message (same for ES4 as well):
Make sure you are following the correct steps.

  • Reader Extensions does not recognize Flash Player

    Hi All:
Rather new to Reader Extensions ES 2 and have installed it on a test system.  This use to work but now I am having a problem accessing the user web page.
    Environment
    Windows XP
    IE 6 or 7
    Flash player 9 or 10
    Issue:
When I access http:// localhost:8080/ReaderExtensions/welcome I recieve a page display stating "This content requires the Adobe Flash Player 9 or above." Get Flash.
    Steps taken to date:
I originally had Flash 10 but have tried downgrading to Flash 9 with no results.
Re-installed Reader extensions after changing Flash versions with no results.
uninstalled Reader Extensions and cleaned out the registry. reinstalled Reader extensions with no result
Note: the installation had no errors and was doing a Turnkey - express mode install
Upgraded IE from 6 to 7 with no results.
Searched the Internet for similar issues
Searched the Adobe forums with no results.
    Anybody with any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Hi Paul:
I am using ES2 or Reader Extensions 9.  I have tried both Flash 9 and 10.  From investigation on Web, 10 should be fine with ES2 but I downgraded it to version 9 just in case.
Regardless, it doesn't work with either Flash 9 or Flash 10.
This is only a problem when trying to access the user interface.  I can access Reader Extensions AdminUI.  I can change settings etc so there is no problem with the install or configuration, I just can't load the user interface to actually reader extend a PDF.
One thing I noticed on my production system using LC Reader Extensions 7, in IE there is the Shockwave Flash Object (version 10) under "Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer".  I do not see this on the development system with ES2.
    Thank you,
    David Chamberlin

  • Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions issue

    Hi all,
I have an issue about ARES. When I create a PDF file and use password to secure the document and “Changes Allowed” is set as “Commenting, filling in form fields, and signing existing signature fields”, the commenting doesn’t work and display the error as below:
    Warning: JavaScript Window-
This document is not enabled for review in Adobe Reader. You must use Adobe Acrobat to review this document.
Other documents which is not set password security can be commented normally. Please give me some advices.
    Any idea will be appreciated!
    Regards,
    Ryan

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for your reply! I have something unclearly. What is the “Apply Usage Rights” step do you mean? If it looks like the attachment shows, I think I can comment on the PDF file. However, after doing this, the PDF doc settings cannot be modified by Acrobat again.
If not, could you please tell me what is “Apply Usage Rights” step?
Actually, the issue occurred when I use Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions and EMC Documentum PDF Annotation Services together. Everything works fine exception password security settings. If I don’t use password settings, all commenting functionalities are work fine.

    Ryan
