  • Adobe Reader for Safari, Leopard, G4 iBook - what version works?

Have an Intel iMac and a G4 iBook both using Leopard 10.5.1 & Safari 3.04 (all software latest versions). When I browse to a URL requiring Adobe Reader, I cannot successfully find a version of Adobe Reader 7.x or 8.x that works on the G4 iBook. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

Adobe Reader 8.1 should work, but maybe you should ask Adobe.

  • Best Adobe reader plugin for Safari or firefox .

    Hi Folks.
I am looking for the best plugin available for safari that will give me the functionality of adobe reader when viewing pdf documents using safari.
Am i doing something wrong but i download pdf's to the desktop, i ctrl+click on them and select 'Open With' i navigate to adobe reader and select 'always open with..'
Shouldn't that make Adobe Reader the default app for pdf's and not preview?
Is this functionality carried over to safari, as in what i want to do is when browsing the web with safari, click on a pdf and have it open in reader.
    Any help is appreciated.

If you have Adobe Reader installed, then open its preferences and select the option to install the Adobe Reader for Safari (under Internet preferences.)
To have Adobe Reader become the default reader for PDFs simply select any PDF file and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Set the default application to Adobe Reader then click on the Change All button.

  • Acrobat Reader for Macs

I just downloaded Acrobat Reader for Safari on my mac. It shows up as an application, but when I try and use it by a training program I am using it still does not recognize it. What am I doing wrong? I really need quick help with this as I have a deadline to meet.
Update, I have checked the function of adobe reader on my mac by opening a pdf file and it appears to work just fine, but the application I am trying to run which requires it still apparently does not see it as installed on my computer. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, I suspect that you'd have to ask in a forum for that other program, or their designers if they don't have one.

  • How do I make Preview the default PDF reader on Safari?

I reinstalled Adobe and somehow it has become the default PDF reader for Safari. I prefer to use Preview, but I can't figure out how to set it back to Preview.

    ... a 5-10 minute job.
in order to change the default PDF viewer in Safari from Adobee, you need to have root user access!
a bit tedious but really a easy task - see below:
How to enable the root user:
    OS X Mavericks
From the Apple menu choose System Preferences....
From the View menu choose Users & Groups.
Click the lock and authenticate as an administrator account.
    Click Login Options....
Click the "Edit..." or "Join..." button at the bottom right.
Click the "Open Directory Utility..." button.
Click the lock in the Directory Utility window.
Enter an administrator account name and password, then click OK.
Choose Enable Root User from the Edit menu.
come up with a password you wish to use in both the Password and Verify fields, then click OK. (you don't have to remember it forever)
then, log out as yourself and log back in as the root user...
at the login screen, the username will be root, and the password will be the one just made up in Step 10 above.
don't set up with icloud or anything - just cancel any popups that ask for keychain or whatever...just get to the desktop screen and then, from the menu bar at the top of the desktop screen...choose the Go menu....now hold down the option key and another choice on the menu (for the library) should show up...
    choose library.
in the search bar at the top right of the finder window for the library folder, type kind:plugin.... the two plugins should show up.   be sure the search is searching the library folder.
after you have trashed the two adobe pdfviewer plugins, empty the trash and log out as the root user ...
    now, disable root user:
    to disable the root user
    OS X Lion and Mavericks
From the Apple menu choose System Preferences....
From the View menu choose Users & Groups.
Click on the lock and authenticate with an administrator account.
    Click Login Options....
Click the "Edit..." or "Join..." button at the bottom right
Click the "Open Directory Utility..." button.
Click the lock in the Directory Utility window.
Enter an administrator account name and password, then click OK.
Choose Disable Root User from the Edit menu.
...sorry this explanation is a bit slapdash... hope you've had success... hit me off with a point if it helps!

  • Disabling Adobe Reader XI's Plug-In for Safari Does Not Require Access to OS X's 'Root' Account

Why do the instructions for disabling the Adobe Reader plug-in for Safari say that one needs to do so from OS X's root account even though one only needs to authenticate using their administrator password to do so?

  • Adobe Reader Plugin needed for Safari

How can I get the Adobe Reader plug-in for Safari?

    Hi,
Default install of Adobe Reader X package has Browser plug-in checked for install. Did you customize your installation and unchecked this option which indicates you dont want to install browser plug-in. Other possibility could be that you are using both Reader 9 and Reader X in your system and after Reader X install, you have updated Reader 9 assuming updating 9.4.0 to 9.4.1. This will change the plug-in version back to 9.4.1 (latest update).
One way to have version X is rerun Reader X installer and it will repair your plug-in to version 10.0.0. As an advise do not use both Reader 9 and Reader X in same system (though this is possible). You can simply delete version 9 application and continue working with Reader X installed.
Secondly to answer your question that Safari keeps on asking to choose Reader application, what you can do is  open com.adobe.acrobat.pdfviewer.plist in /Library/Preferences in any plist viewer. It should have a key - WebBrowserUsePath. This should be pointing to correct reader application on your system. Normally its value is something like - file://localhost/Applications/Adobe%20Reader.app/
In your case you have moved Adobe Reader.app to /Applications/Local-A/PDF Software/Adobe Reader.app
So change the value of this key to point to correct application. Here it should be - file://localhost/Applications/Local-A/PDF%20Software/Adobe%20Reader.app/
This will ensure that Safari does not prompt you again.
    Thanks,
    Karan

  • Reader for Mac 10.8.5. Downloading message is in chinese How do I stop this? Am I a victim of an Safari or Adobe vulnerability?

Reader for Mac 10.8.5. Downloading message is in chinese How do I stop this? Am I a victim of an Safari or Adobe vulnerability?

Don't know about downloading message. There seems to be a strange error in something which gives you a message in Japanese when trying to view a PDF from Safari.
The message means "To view this file, first launch (open, start) Adobe Reader (the app, from Applications) and accept the license agreement, then quit".

  • My bank (Chase) and my wife's payroll provider (ADP) say I can longer pull our statements because of incompatibilities between Adobe Reader and Safari. The Apple site says it is not responsible for for 3rd party software. Adobe says go back to Safari 5.0.

My bank (Chase) and my wife's payroll provider (ADP) say I can no longer pull our statements because of incompatibilities between Adobe Reader and Safari. The Apple site says it is not responsible for for 3rd party software. Adobe says go back to Safari 5.0. Apple dosen't let me download Safari 5.0; so what do I do. The bank had me download Chrome, and I can now download my statements. but what a pain. Any suggestios?

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Safari Extension - Google Reader for Snow Leopard Not Installing

Google Reader for Snow Leopard is not installing on my 10.6.4 system with Safari 5.01. It just claims to be "Installing"...forever.
    Anyone else have this problem?
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If you can install the Google Reader extension, move that .plist file to the Trash.

  • Adobe reader warning for safari

I keep getting a warning that i need to download adobe reader for my safari browser. So what's the best way to do this?

Visit http://www.adobe.com and select "Adobe Reader" from the "Download" drop-down menu at the top of the page. It should offer you the specific version you need for the computer and browser you are running.

  • New Mac, new software, can't open .fdf - Reader and Safari 'flicker'

My brand-new Xeon tower with OS 10.6.4 is loaded with the latest software version of everything, and when I try to open an .fdf file (Dental Claim Form from my work benefits) Reader has a conniption, booting up Safari (no matter which browser I'm using) and then 'flickering' as Reader and Safari try to take the front window from each other. Safari is Version 5.0 and Reader is 9.3.3. I tried uninstalling the Adobe PDFViewer Safari Plug-In to see if I could force it to read as a Firefox plug-in, but it still boots up Safari and has a battle for front screen. Nothing is crashing though, I can click on the File menu and whichever app is front when I click gives me a menu I can Quit from. I just want to get an address to send a claim form to, not play software games!!!

Click on View at the top of the screen
In the pull down menu click on View Toolbar
