Reader rendering font incorrectly

Hi,
OS : XP SP2 - SP3
Printer : Xerox dcc2200
RAM : 1 - 2 GB
At our company , we have 2 computers using Reader 8. We print documents to PDF using Acrobat Pro 7.0.
When viewing the pdf on one computer , it renders the
b Arial Narrow
in a funny font in the link below.
http://img338.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imgz03082227px7.pdf
It comes with a few conditions
b It happens intermittently
b Sometimes you close and open the document , it fixes itself
b Sometimes it shows fine onscreen, but prints in the funny font.
I also captured this rare screenshot of the doc being rendered in the funny font and the normal font as I scrolled down the page. ( see link below)
This is the original pdf culprit file ( it might show up fine/funny on your computer and print fine/funny)
http://www.badongo.com/file/12339777
Any help or direction will be appreciated.
Thank you
V

I'm not sure quite how the problem arose with XPSP3, but it probably
depended on which Office applications were installed at the time SP3
was applied. I can't remember the dodgy version number (it was
probably 2.35) and the solution was to replace any Arial fonts with
that version number, dated June 2006, I think, with version 2.30
dating from the last century. I don't know if Reader maintains lists
of fonts, but if it does, those lists should be deleted (they're
called adobefnt##.lst) and the machine rebooted.
If you look at Document > Properties > Fonts tab, you should see the
names of the fonts specified in the PDF and the 'actual' fonts used
to display the file if they're not embedded. The names are similar,
but not identical. It often doesn't matter that much, but it could
make a big difference in some circumstances.
I don't know why the file would display differently on the same
machine at different times. It sounds odd. In any case, the solution
is to embed the fonts you use. If the dll you're using can't do
that, find another that can!

Adobe Reader displays text incorrectly as a thin grainy font. How do I fix it?

I think I counted three tabbed panels in the markup, each with an ID of TabbedPanels1
You have only one constructor that makes one instance of the tabeed panels with an ID of TabbedPanels1
There are a couple of things that create the problem.
There can only be one ID with the same name in a document, thus the ID's of the TabbedPanels will need to change from TabbedPanels1 for the second and third instances to TabbedPanels2 and TabbedPanels3 (or similar) respectively.
There needs to be a constructor for each tabbed panels like
    var TabbedPanels1 = new Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("TabbedPanels1");
    var TabbedPanels2 = new Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("TabbedPanels2");
    var TabbedPanels3 = new Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("TabbedPanels3");

  • Server 2008 R2 Windows Server Backup. "Error in backup of Hyper-V.vhd during read: Error [0x80070001] Incorrect function.

    Hello,
We are currently using Windows Server Backup to backup three Hyper-V guests running on a Windows 2008 R2 host.  Two guests are running Server 2008 R2 and one is running Windows 7.  I have the backups going to a dedicated external disk drive.
WSB backs up the two 2008 R2 Hyper-V guests just fine.  However, when attempting to backup the Windows 7 Hyper-V guest, I receive the following error:
Error in backup of <Windows 7.vhd> during read: Error [0x80070001] Incorrect function.
I ran a "vssadmin list writers" and all the VSS writers showed "Stable" with no errors.  I have plenty of space on the external drive as well.  I've read this article:
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/973455?wa=wsignin1.0#workaroundissue12 except that doesn't seem to be what I'm experiencing here.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi,
As the other 2 guests could be backed up correctly, the issue should not be the Windows Server Backup feature.
First please refer to this article:
Backing Up and Restoring Virtual Machines
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd405549(v=vs.85).aspx
Please check if all following requirements are met. Specifically please check if Integration Service is installed.
Backup (volume snapshot) Integration Service is installed and running in the child VM. The service name is "Hyper-V Volume Shadow Copy Requestor".
Windows 2000:  Backup Integration Service is not supported.
The child VM must be in the running state.
The Snapshot File Location for the VM is set to be the same volume in the host operating system as the VHD files for the VM.
All volumes in the child VM are basic disks and there are no dynamic disks.
All disks in the child VM must use a file system that supports snapshots (for example, NTFS).

When opening a pdf document in Adobe Reader the font of the original document is changed....It becomes a mix of the original font and a new different font. How can i fix this

This issue occurs with most of the PDFs that I open up. I am using the latest version of adobe reader on my windows based machine and it is a general PDF. I saw a similar post online stating that if you look at the fonts used in the document and it doesn't say (Embedded) next to it, then Adobe Reader will try to pull the font(s) from your computer and if it doesn't find that font then it will replace it which makes it look funny.

  • Why is AI/ID CS5 unable to read same fonts as CS2?

I have upgraded to CS5 from CS2 and find Frutiger type created in CS2 files cannot be read by CS5. I open an existing file, click update and a dialogue box tells me Frutiger cannot be found on my system. The Frutiger is in Font Agent Pro library as both Postscript type 1 and as Open type.
FAP has verified the Frutiger, FAP displays the fonts, they are definitely switched on. Font Doctor has passed them as OK and I have smashed the font cashes. Both AI and InD CS5 fail to read the fonts. Thinking that it may be the updating process of legacy docs which was at fault, I opened new documents. In the AI Font menu, Frutiger has the black diamond next to it. With InDesign, the Frutiger is simply not listed in the font menu. I am running CS5 on Leopard 10.5.8 on a 2.8GHz intel core duo iMac.
If I go to my other volume with Tiger 10.4.11 that has CS2 which created the files, I am able to open Adobe applications and files with Frutiger displayed perfectly. So what has Adobe done!
Can anyone tell me what is going on and how this problem can be fixed?

Tried that Bob and it made no difference. I converted the PS to Open type with FontXchange but FAP did not recognise them, perhaps because they were faulty in the first place! I Ran Font Doctor again and it showed problems with the Resource Forks and requested removal. I ran FAP again to verify fonts and this time identified them as "Fonts with Errors"
Since these fonts are functioning under CS2 I conclude that OSX font refinements are making these fonts obsolete due to changes in Creator code/File type details. I cannot understand why PS fonts should be a problem but you may well know something I do not.
I shall try a Utility called Font Shuffler which allows these file types to be changed or repaired. Thank you for the quick response Bob and I shall keep this post open until I get a fix.
    Cheers.

  • ORA-27063: number of bytes read/written is incorrect

    Hello -
I am getting this error because my filesytem is at 100%:
ORA-01114: IO error writing block to file 202 (block # 423324)
ORA-27063: number of bytes read/written is incorrect
However, when I query the dba_data_files, and v$datafile views, I do not see a reference to file 202. Where can I get this information?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Mike,
Looks like you got a solution, however, just FYI, tempfiles are numbered starting w/ db_files+1, so, likely, your value of db_files is 200, the error occurred on your number 2 tempfile.

  • Preview is not rendering fonts well in PDFs

    Hi,
For some reason Preview is not rendering fonts well in PDFs.  I have created high quality PDFs using two applications (Illustrator CS5 and Numbers '09) and in both cases the fonts are not rendering correctly in Preview.  They generally look much less sharp.  I am attaching screenshots below, with the original image first and then the PDF in Preview.
When I look at the same PDFs in Acrobat Pro the fonts look fine, so I am presuming that the issue is with Preview.  Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?
    Thanks,
    Nick

It looks like, at least in the Navigation menu, that your using Palatino font, which isn't a web safe font. So Explorer is probably substituting another font when it finds fonts not installed on the viewers computer.
You may be using the default font in a particular iWeb theme. These aren't necessarily web safe fonts.
For your pages to look better on most computers, change all your fonts to web safe fonts which you can find in the "font inspector window" in iWeb. (there is a "font" button on the bottom edge of the main iWeb window) There, you will find different categories of fonts, you want to use any of the fonts listed under "Web" group of fonts.

  • Can After Effects read Opentype fonts?

I was given a PSD file that uses a font called Soho Gothic Pro. In Photoshop, the designer toggled on Stylistic Alternatives under the Opentype menu option under Fonts (see picture).
However, I can't seem to find this same option in After Effects. So in AE it appears that the font the designer used isn't available, but in Photoshop it is. Is After Effects unable to read Opentype fonts?
    Thanks for your time.

It's very much as Dave said - AE does not support any of the rule-based glyph substitution, the sad excuse behind it being that someone thought we don't need ligatures, table numbers and so on because they "break" with text animator (when half the time people don't even use this, but only basic transforms or effects). *crikey* Well, one can always hope for CS6....

  • Font Book not reading .pfm fonts

I have some .pfm PC Type 1 fonts I need to use but Font Book does not recognize them. Can they be converted to another format Font Book can read? Or do I have to repurchase the fonts?

    Kurt Lang wrote:
PC Type 1 PostScripts have never been able to be used on the Mac. Same is true trying to use a Mac Type 1 PS font on the PC. You have a few options.
    1) The Adobe applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), starting with the CS2 suite, can indeed read these fonts. Place them in the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts/ folder and you will be able to use Windows Type 1 PostScript fonts with the Adobe programs. This is the ONLY place this will work. All other Mac applications won't have a clue what to do with the paired .pfb and .pfm files.
    2) Convert them. One of the nicest is TransType. The pro version is more, but don't bother with the light version since it can't save OpenType format. Unless back out to Mac Type 1 PS is fine for you.
    3) A free method is to install Font Forge. This is an open source project. I haven't tried it myself, but others here say it works well. It's a full font editor such as FontLab or Fontographer. I would imagine you could save fonts out as Mac Type 1 PostScript or OpenType, but I can't be sure.

Just want to clarify that with CS4 the directory path /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts/ does not exist and I am still looking for a solution.
