Reader: retry upon error copying text to clipboard

Dear Adobe,
since years I'm seeing the same behaviour on different machines: I select text in a PDF opened in Reader, hit ctrl+c and once upon maybe every 5 occasions a window pops up "an error occured while copying the data to the clipboard". I click "OK", press ctrl+c again and it works.
Here's my feature request: if such an error happens, simply try a second time for yourself before bothering the user. Obviously don't turn this into an endless loop if there's a real problem. but since it usually works the 2nd time, the error can't be severe.
BTW: I have no idea if this forum is the right place to post such product enhancement suggestions, but I failed to find any other way.

OCR - Optical Character Recognition was performed on this document, which was originally scanned as an image. Unfortunately it was originally scanned at a low resolution, and that led to many many many characters being "misread" by the OCR engine.
This is a common mistake when people scan documents. Most scanners are setup for scanning pictures, and they neglect to change the settings when scanning text documents, or just use Acrobat to scan the document and do the OCR in the process.  Unfortunately, it's "broken" from a copying standpoint, and a conversion standpoint as well, since the converter will make a Word document with the available text, which as you can see... is pure gibberish.

  • Javascript or function to copy text to clipboard in Acrobat forms

    Hello, I have a docuement that has a set of SQL procedures listed as text files. These procedures spread over many pages and there are often errors copying the text into SQL.
    Ideally, a button to copy a set of text to clipboard is the best solution - I haven't had any luck finding a Javascript to do this, nor can I see how to. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
    Thanks

    That you can't do. You need to select the text by hand.
    There is an option to select text in the document using a script, but you
    can only select one word at a time using it.

  • Append copyright text to copied text in clipboard

    Is it possible in RH6 to append a copyright string to the
    text that a user has just copied to the clipboard, so that when
    they paste it, they get the text they copied, plus the copyright
    string? The old WinHelp application that I am converting to HTML
    help had this feature - I believe the old project was authored in
    RoboHelp, but have no idea on how they included the copyright
    string. I haven't found anything in the help that references
    functionality like this, nor have I found anything online.

    Hi,
    Make use of READ_TEXT and SAVE_TEXT FM to get the additional text and add to the existing text.

  • Possible to copy text to clipboard through script?

       I'm currently creating a temporary textPath and copying that to the clipboard with the app.copy() method.  Is there a way to just simply copy the text directly to the clipboard rather than having to do it through copying an object?

    Im not a fan of scripting the clipboard what do you need to to this for?

    Once you have selected text, there will be blue circular buttons on the corners. Get the ones on the end and move them in towards the text that you want to copy. The problem that you seem to be facing where you are is that this text is a hyperlink. Because of that reason, you will have a difficult time tapping on the text without activating the link. I'm not sure you will be able to do that.

  • There is an internal Adobe Reader error while copying to the Clipboard.

    Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64 bits
    Adobe Reader Vesion: XI
    That error is very easy to reproduce: select two or more lines of a pdf document and press "cntl + C" several times in repetition. Frequently 4 ou 5 followed repetitions trigger that issue. A curious thing happens when "cntl + C" starts to fail: the copying process through "Edit > Copy" menu still works. But if you try repeated times to copying through "Edit > Copy" menu, then this method also starts to fail too, but at the same time of this failure, "cntrl + c" starts to work again (it is like a seesaw).
    My computer has no skype plugin installed, so the skype plugin + Internet Explorer is not the root cause of that issue.
    This problem occurs even if I am running only Adobe Reader XI application, i. e., without start Internet Explorer, or any office application, or windows live messenger, or skype, etc.

    in windows 7
    start-control panel-uninstall programs
    uninstall the "Skype Click to Call", this will uninstall addins from ie, firefox, you dont have to uninstall skype.
    in ie and firefox you can disable addons but can not uninstall them using ie or firefox interface, when you uninstall Skype Click to Call, it will remove it from all added browsers.
    This works me now.
    Edit 1:
    Unfortunately skype trick does not work.
    I recently switched to windows 8 and reliazed that there is no copy error any more.
    Edit2:
    This error maybe caused by Babylon dictionary which has an Adobe Acrobat or Reader addon which captures the text from pdf documnet when ctrl+right mouse click. This feature is enabled when it is copied to" C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\plug_ins " or  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\plug_ins " directory, so if it is copied such copying error appeared, if not copied it does not appear. Baylon dictionary addin is installed when you install babylon dictionary software, and it is here " C:\Program Files (x86)\Babylon\Babylon-Pro\Utils ", its name is " BabylonRPI.api "
    Edit3:06-April-2013
    My experience is that Babylon Dictionary was causing this error. With babylon version 10 acrobat does not give that kind of error anymore, on windows 7 x64, but previous version leftover files may cause this error again even if you remove previous versions and install version 10. With a clean install of windows 7 x64 with babylon dictionary version 10 there is no error anymore.

  • Reader X: Internal error when copying to clipboard

    I get an "internal error" copying to clipboard (Reader 10.1.1, Windows 7 64-bit) when TightVncviewer (V2.0.4) is running simultaneously.
    I assume TightVncviewer monitors the clipboard to copy the actual content to the remote machine.
    Closing TightVncviewer resolves the issue. However, I need to use that tool frequently so that's an annoying bug.
    As a workaround, I downgraded to Reader 9.

  • Copying text to the clipboard in AVDocDidOpen event handler causes Acrobat 9 to crash

    I'm trying to copy the filename of a document to the clipboard in a plugin with my AVDocDidOpen event handler.  It works for the first file opened; however when a second file is opened, Acrobat crashes.  The description in the application event log is: "Faulting application acrobat.exe, version 9.1.0.163, faulting module gdi32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5698, fault address 0x000074cc."
    I've confirmed that the specific WIN32 function that causes this to happen is SetClipboardData(CF_TEXT, hText);  When that line is commented out and remaining code is left unchanged, Adobe doesn't crash.
    Is there an SDK function that I should be using instead of WIN32's SetClipboardData()?  Alternately, are there other SDK functions that I need to call be before or after I call SetClipboardData()
    Bill Erickson

    Leonard,
    I tried it with both "DURING, HANDLER, END_HANDLER" and "try catch," as shown below.  However, it doesn't crash in the event handler; it crashes later, so the HANDLER/catch block is never hit.
    The string that's passed to SetClipboardData() is good, because I'm able to paste it into the filename text box of the print dialog when I try to create the "connector line" PDF.  I also got rid of all the string manipulation and tried to pass a zero-length string to the clipboard but it still crashes.
    Here's the code:
    ACCB1 void ACCB2 CFkDisposition::myAVDocDidOpenCallback(AVDoc doc, Int32 error, void *clientData)
        PDDoc pdDoc = AVDocGetPDDoc(doc);
        char* pURL = ASFileGetURL(PDDocGetFile(annotDataRec->thePDDoc));
        if (pURL)    {
            if (strstr(pURL, "file://") && strstr(pURL, "Reviewed.pdf")) {
                // Opened from file system so copy filename to clipboard for connector line report
                char myURL[1000];
                strcpy(myURL, pURL);
                ASfree(pURL);    // Do this before we allocate a Windows handle just in case Windows messes with this pointer
                pURL = NULL;
                HGLOBAL hText = GlobalAlloc(GMEM_MOVEABLE, 1000);
                if (hText)    {
                    try
                        // Skip path info and go right to filename
                        char *pText = (char *)GlobalLock(hText);
                        char *pWork = strrchr(myURL,'/');
                        if (pWork)    {
                            strcpy(pText, pWork+1);
                        } else {
                            strcpy(pText, myURL);
                        char *pEnd = pText + strlen(pText);    // Get null terminator address
                        // Replace "%20" in filename with " "
                        pWork = strstr(pText, "%20");
                        while (pWork)    {
                            *pWork = ' ';
                            memmove(pWork+1, pWork+3, (pEnd - (pWork+2)));
                            pWork = strstr(pText, "%20");
                        // Append a new file extension
                        pWork = strstr(pText, ".pdf");
                        *pWork = 0;    // truncate the string before ".pdf"
                        strcat(pWork,".Connectors.pdf");
                        GlobalUnlock(hText);     // Must do this BEFORE SetClipboardData()
                        // Write it to the clipboard
                        OpenClipboard(NULL);
                        EmptyClipboard();
                        SetClipboardData(CF_TEXT, hText);     // Here's the culprit
                        CloseClipboard();
                        GlobalFree(hText);
                    } catch (char * str) {
                        AVAlertNote(str);

  • I find that I can no longer copy text to the clipboard.

    Why can I no longer copy text to my clipboard?

    Here is a little more information.  Last week everything worked fine.  I opened the same document yesterday and tried to copy some text to the clipboard and now I get an error message saying "can not copy to clipboard, internal error.  I also find that pdf files from the internet will not load and all I get is a small black x box in the upper left corner of the screen.  Went through the steps in control panel and adobe is enabled.

  • Programatically copying text to the clipboard

    Short: I need to programatically copy a string of text from
    either a variable or a hidden control field to the clipboard.
    Long: We have a requirement to allow the user to 'pop-up' a
    list of frequently used words, select one from the list and have
    it pasted into a field on the form. What I would prefer to do
    is select the user's words into an LOV and have the chosen word
    placed into a hidden field. If I could move the contents of
    that field to the clipboard, I can place the focus back in the
    original field ('keep cursor position' = yes) and used the
    PASTE_REGION built-in to insert the text without overwriting
    anything.
    The other method I have been experimenting with is creating my
    own 'List of Values' form. I'm using a t-list to display the
    user's word list. When-List-Changed copies the word to a visible
    text field and an OK button places the focus in the text field,
    executes the SELECT-ALL built-in, then the COPY-REGION built-in
    and returns to the calling form with the word in the clipboard.
    Problems: The user can't shrink the list by typing like they can
    with an Oracle LOV. When the focus is in the t-list, the
    DEFAULT functionality of the OK button doesn't happen. I can't
    get a When-Mouse-Doubleclick trigger to fire while in the t-list.
    In the end, I prefer the first method (the LOV) BUT... I have to
    have a field visible on the form to place focus in, select all
    of the text and copy to the clipboard. This field looks silly.
    I'm sorry this question is so long winded. Thank you for
    reading it all. Does anyone know how I might accomplish this
    requirement (professionally)?
    Thank you,
    Fouad

  • Button to copy text to the clipboard

    Reading the document "Javascript for Acrobat API Reference" Page 120:
    http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/js_api_reference.pdf
    the document discusses the execMenuItem command. From all that I have researched it appears I cannot create a button that copies text from a text field to the UI clipboard.
    On page 121 the API reference says:
    To ensure a secure environment, the menu items that can be executed are limited to the following:
    ●AcroSendMail:SendMail
    ●ActualSize
    ●AddFileAttachment
    ●BookmarkShowLocation
    ●Close
    ●CropPages
    ●DeletePages.............
    ..............●ZoomViewOut
    The list is long but nowhere is "Copy" mentioned. I don't want to surreptitiously copy text or use a trusted function. I am content with the user knowing a button just copied a field of text. I just want to skip the highlighting of multiple field to get all the text. Does anyone know a way around this? I would like to copy a text field to the clipboard so the text can be entered elsewhere in another program.

    All I know is they made this impossible a long time ago, like with Acrobat 5 or 6. I recall because I took advantage of it and never discovered a workaround.

  • Copy text to Windows clipboard

    I need to copy text, either from a Flash textArea component
    or a text member, to the Windows clipboard so it can be pasted into
    a form field in a web page. I'm trying to streamline a data entry
    process and alleviating CTRL+C will be a big help. Does anyone know
    a way of doing this?
    Thanx in advance.

    If you do not need it in Shockwave, there is the free
    clipboard xtra
    from the wonderful Valentin Schmidt...
    http://staff.dasdeck.de/valentin/xtras/clipboard/
    That has a whole of of control over the clipboard and its
    contents/formats.
    If you just need a simple text to/from the clipboard routine,
    then you
    can use BuddyAPI's baCopyText() and baPasteText()

    When trying to install a digital copy, everything works including the downloading, until it is processing to iTunes then I receive "You do not have enough access privilages for this operation. Check the disk to make sure it is clean and retry." error.
    Tryed several times, Same Results. Tryied rebooting, logging out & into iTunes, Same Result. Seems to do this error with every digital copy, but works eventually. But now will not post digital copy to my iTunes at all. Just same error over and over.
    Any Thoughts??

    Oddly enough. I think I just solved it. It looks like, for some reason, my computer has about 8 different "iTunes music" folders, and I've been saving my music to the wrong one. Neat. Music now imports and plays as it should. Copying things over is going to be so fun tonight!

  • Applets and clipboard (copying text)

    I've done some small games like chess that work directly in browser as applets. During game moves are printed out to normal JTextArea component. Idea and much used feature so far have been that at the end of game players can simply copy move list to clipboard and save/use them as wanted.
    But now it seems that after Java 6 update 24 it is no longer possible to copy text from textarea to clipboard? It is possible to select all text with crtl+a but ctrl+c does nothing. Is there any way how people could get text to their clipboard from (unsigned) applet?
    Thanks!
