Reader shuts down browser

I have Adobe Reader 8.2.4 when I am on a website and I try to open a pdf file in the browser it shuts internet explorer down and after awhile gives me this error:
A file I/O has occured. The file connection timed out"  Any advice?

Do you get this with every online PDF?

  • IE causes some PC's to shut down browser when visiting my sites

When some people using PC's visit my sites using IE, they get a message syaing that there is an error and that IE has to shut down. Sometimes they can view certain pages then others result in a browser crash. Though there are some people that can view the pages fine in IE. Does anyone know what might be triggering the shutdown? Are there any realistic solutions other than asking everyone to switch to MAC?

You probably won't convince people to switch to Mac, just because they couldn't view iWeb sites. But you probably have better luck to convince people to switch their browsers. See this thread:

  • Can't create new digital ID/certificate - Reader shutting down unexpectedly

I had Adobe Reader X (10.0.0) installed and when I went to Edit|Protection|Security Settings it would pop up a dialog then shut down immediately.
I upgraded to the latest X build (10.2.1 or something), and the same thing occured.
I turned off Protected Mode and now instead of just shutting down it showed an 'Adobe Reader has stopped working' dialog (I did save the crash dump file but then lost it unfortunately, however there was nothing obvious in it)
I then installed version XI (not sure why Update didn't tell me about this).
When I tried to start that, it shut down immediately.  I read here that this was a known problem of sorts, and ran the EULA program to allow it to at least start up.
Next I tried to find the equivalent "Security Settings" dialog in version XI in order to create a new Digital ID, and eventually found what looked like the right option under Edit|Preferences|Signatures|Identities & Trusted Certificates.
But when I click the "More" button...it just shuts down immediately.  The 'More' button for "Document Timestamping" causes the same thing, as does the 'More button' on the tab for Edit|Preferences|Security. I managed to get a screen shot and it's just the partly painted "Digital ID and Trusted Certificate Settings" shown before it disappears completely, with no other dialogs displayed or any options to capture the crash dump.  I attached a debugger to it and managed to get this stack trace:
    First-chance exception at 0x700b2a5a in AcroRd32.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x700de9f4.

  • Newly installed adobe reader shuts down immediately after opening

I just installed Adobe Reader (on a Windows 7 computer) but when trying to open it it starts up and shuts down immediately. I have another PDF generator which came with the computer (Stat Nova PDF) which could be interferring with Adobe reader.
With Adobe reader installed neither PDF software works.
Is there a setting to make Adobe the default PDF reader?
I cannot risk uninstalling the original PDF software (Stat Nova PDF), as this is for an urgent job and cannot risk having no functional PDF reader at all.
    Thanks for your help

    Thanks heaps for that Pat,
    It seems to have worked.
Just out of curiosity. Why does one have to re-accept the licence agreement when we already accept it during the installation process?
Thank you again for your help

  • Adobe Reader shuts down automatically

I work in Microsoft Office 2007 and I have downloaded Adobe Reader, but everytime I open it the program automatically shuts down.
Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Assuming that you are on Windows, three things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • Adobe reader shuts down

    Hi all,
I was completing an editable adobe PDF document (a report) and half was through completing the document, when I cut some text from another static PFD document and went to paste into the editatble PDF report which subsequently shut down and I lost all information.
Does anyone know why this happened, as it was very frustrating?
    Thanks in advance

Hi, and thanks. See attached screen capture. It is not the complete list, just top of it. The list is quite long.

  • HELP - Plug in crashes and shuts down browser

I get a problem which results in the browser which is running the plug in (and the plugin itself) close down suddenly. No error. No warning, they just vanish.
I am using IE5 and JRE1.3 for the plug in.
The code when it occurs is
    KeyPairGenerator keygen = KeyPairGenerator.getInstance(algorithm);
Trying to get an instance of the RSA key generator.
Anyone had something similar happen to them?

Did you ever figure out whet was doing this to the browser?

  • Adobe Reader does not fully shut down

After closing all PDF documets, Adobe Reader remains open. The Processes Tab in Windows Task Manager typically lists multiple instances of AcroRd32.exe after I close all PDF files. If I open a new PDF file, the PRocesses tab shows two instances of AcroRd32.exe. What causes this? What is the fix for this?

    Hi Pat,
Thank you for the information and the patches.
I installed them, one at a time, rebooted, and tested the outcomes.
10.1.5 – Adobe had run Adobe Distiller when I rebooted and checked Task Manager. This is the first I have seen Distiller listed in a long time. I opened an Adobe file. This added two instances of AcroRd32.exe to Task Manager. I closed the Adobe file. The two instances remained in Task Manager. I opened another PDF file without clearing the instances from Task Manager. This added two more instances of AcroRd32.exe to Task Manager.
With only 10.1.15 installed and after doing some other things, I retested Adobe Reader.  This time, when I closed the PDF either by the X in the upper right hand corner of the file or by File / Exit from the menu, Adobe Reader shut down completely and did not leave any instances of AcroRd32.exe in Task Manager.
10.1.16 – Could not find this patch file. Instead received this message in Firefox:
The requested URL /pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.6/misc/AdbeRdrUpd1016.msp was not found on this server.
Received a similar message in Internet Explorer
10.1.17 – Downloaded, installed, and rebooted PC. Did not see an instance of Acrobat Distiller in Task Manager after the reboot.
Opened a PDF file – two instances in AcroRd32.exe in Task Manager. Without closing the first PDF file, opened another PDF.  Momentarily saw two more instances of AcroRd.exe in Task Manager. Then they disappeared. Closed one PDF file using the X. Two instances remained. Closed the second file. Adobe Reader shut down completely and cleared both instances from Task Manager.
Not sure what had been going on. For now, things seem to operate about as they should.
Thank you, again, Pat. This will help keep my PC from hanging up after I view several PDF files. At times I have had 16 or 18 instances of the executable listed in Task Manager. That really slows down the PC.
    Kind regards,
    Jon Bergeson

  • Adobe reader shuts when trying to enter data

Any ideas why Adobe Reader shuts down when trying to enter data into a fillable form?

I have disabled the protection.  It will still close when I attempt to add data, but now comes up with an error message saying that a problem caused the program to stop working correctly, and that Windows will close the program and notify me if a solution is available.  I have not received anything from Windows regarding a solution.

  • Shut down app

Hello! I've lost all My works that i've done on a powerpoint on i pad retina because the new version of the app just shut down! Does anyone know if it's possible to found the work that i lost? And will the problem be fixing?

Unfortunately, if you were writing comments when Reader shut down you would lose what you write. I'm sorry.
It might be a good idea to press the Home button every so often to exit out of Reader every so often. I believe saving happens when you leave the app. Then return to continue making comments.
