Reader ten trying to open XLSX files!

When I go to my directory and try to open XLSX files by double clicking on my PC, Reader X shows up and says it can't read the file. WHat can I do to stop Reader X from getting involved with my spreadsheets?

Correct your file associations.  Most likely reinstalling or repairing MS Office will do that.

  • Getting "Couldnot find Installable ISAM" error in script task in SSIS 2005 when trying to open (.xlsx files) Excel 2007-2010 files using VB script in Visual Studio 2005

    Hi Experts,
    I am trying to open .xlsx file in script task of SSIS 2005. I am using the 32-bit AccessDatabaseEngine driver with the Connection string as "Provider= Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0; Data Source=xlsx file path; Extended Properties="Excel 12.0 Xml;
    HDR=YES"" in script task.
    When we debug the VB script in Visual Studio 2005 and encounters the statement app.open() it throws the error "Couldn't find installable ISAM".
    My SQL server version is 2005 SP2 DE
    OS is Windows server 2003 EE SP2
    Could anyone please let me know what is the resolution for this error?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Adesh

    Hi Adesh,
    First, make sure the package runs in 32-bit runtime mode (set Run64BitRuntime property to False) because you are using the 32-bit ACE OLE DB Provider. If it is not the case, the issue may occur due to the corrupted drivers or registry keys. You can try to
    reinstall the 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components as Arthur suggested.

  • I am getting this response when I am trying to open a file: Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser."  What do I do?

    I am getting this response when I am trying to open a file: Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser.”  What do I do?  I have opened this up in the past without a problem.

    Back up all data.
    If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
    From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
    The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
    If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • I tried to open a file using reader 10. Now reader has taken over all my apps including explorer and live mail and nothing will open unless I uninstall reader. System is windows 7. How can I reverse this?

    I was trying to open a file, the box came up saying that windows could not open the file and choose another program to open the file, I chose reader as it was the first option offered. Reader could not open the file either but when I closed the file I fount that nearly all the desktop  icons had changed to reader icons and when I tried to open them a box comes up advising that reader cannot open that file. The only way that I can open my apps is to uninstall reader. When I uninstall reader the Icons return to normal. As soon as I re install reader all my icons change back to reader icons. How can I reverse this?

  • Some clients Can't open XLSX files in Libraries using template.dotx but can open xlsx files in libraries using template.doc

    If I create a new library using any Excel/Word template - DOC, DOTX, XLS, XLTX and then upload a XLSX document (or docx) then some of my clients experience issues opening the document.  My work around in the past has been to resave the document
    as XLS or DOC.  Interestingly Old Libraries (Libraries using template.doc) don't have a problem with xlsx or docx documents.  (This only works because most of the clients experiencing the problem only open a few documents and we only have to
    resave a few documents.  I don't know why these clients have this problem though.)
    We are now testing a new Terminal Server implementation.  One with OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office.  We can't open xlsx files on new libraries but can on old libraries.  (docx files are not a problem though)  I found a couple of
    work arounds.  One work around is to click on the down arrow by the document name and select "Edit in Excel" which fails, but then clicking on the document name after will then prompt you to Open/save the document.  Clicking on Open
    successfully opens the document in OpenOffice.  (So rather tedious for the users but nothing has to be changed to make it work.)
    The other option is to create a template from one of the libraries that is working and then use it to create a new library and save my documents to the new library.  Then I'm prompted to Open/Save the xlsx documents in the library.  This
    option is less tedious for the user but then I have to go through and recreate any libraries using template.dotx.  Creating a new library using the standard Document Library option and selecting Word or Excel 2003 does not resolve the issue - it has to
    be created from a template created from an existing library that works in the Terminal Server implementation.
    My boss is opting for the latter option unless I can come of with an alternative that doesn't mean additional steps for the users.  Training is an issue because most of the Terminal Server users are shop floor workers.
    My question is, is there a patch or fix that addresses this issue or any other work arounds that would be less work?
    Additional Info:  Our Sharepoint implementation is the Enterprise version is installed but we do not have the Excel related Features activated (and these can't be activated due to licensing).  I'm not sure if that matters or not but it is
    a different configuration from how most SharePoint installations are configured.  SP1 is installed.  I have not installed any recent CU's.  Versions I see in Patch Status screen include 14.0.6029.1 (primarily) with some additional features
    reporting 14.0.6105.5, 14.0.6107.5, 14.0.6112.5 and 14.0.6114.5.
    Nancy Forbes

    We have tried a couple of additional things.
    We uninstalled OpenOffice and are testing LibreOffice.  I also installed CMIS from the SharePoint Administrator's toolkit, added the solution, and deployed it to my sites.  The "Producer" feature is activated on the site I am testing with.
    I created a new library and posted some docx, doc, and xlsx files to it.  All files can be opened as Read-only from the Library list.  The only way I have found that I can edit the files is to Open the Library with Explorer.   I then deactivated
    the producer feature and tested opening the SharePoint documents from Explorer and it worked the same.
    So am I misunderstanding what the CMIS Producer feature is for?

    I am trying to open pptx files on my MacBook Pro and continue to get "No Text Converter is installed for this application" even though I have dowloaded several converters that were supposed to work and I just downloaded Apache Open Office 3.4.1 with no luck.  I am able to open docx files with the converters I have installed but not pptx files.

    The PPTX file type is primarily associated with 'Power Point' by Microsoft Corporation.
    This is the new format for Microsoft Office documents.
    It is a combination of XML architecture and ZIP compression for size reduction.
    To open Office 2008 for Mac documents (format .xlsx, .docx, .pptx) in Office for Mac 2004, you must download and install the Open XML File Format Converter. This article describes how to obtain and install the Open XML File Format Converter for Mac.

    Tried to open a file I created in Numbers a while ago, which I modified on 11/4/13, and got a message that I needed a newer version of Numbers.  When I went to the Mac App Store it shows that the new version is already installed and there doesn't seem to be a way to reinstall it.  When I checked "About Numbers" on my MacBook it shows "Numbers '09 version 2.3".  Any suggestions as to how I can get the new version installed?

    Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there.

  • Trying to open a file from an older version to a new version of indesign

    I'm on am mac and i am trying to open a file from the 2014 indesign with 2015 software, i am getting this error:
    what i don't understand is why a newer version can't read the file of an older version

    That is exactly the opposition of what you are trying to tell us.
    Correct is:
    You have Adobe CS6, version 8.x.
    You get a file from someone else, who has Adobe CC 2014, version 10.x.
    You are trying to open that file on your computer.
    But because that file was created in a later version, you get this message.
    Either ask to get an IDML file (with a PDF), tell them, they should go to File > Package… and check IDML and PDF export.
    Better would be, if you also subscribe to the Creative Cloud to be up to date with the latest version.
    But what you should do anyway, update your InDesign CS6, as there are updates available which will correct this error message, as from CS7 upwards no CS exists anymore.

  • My Safari quits unexpectedly while trying to open attached files or download?

    I had that problems once. My friend reinstalled My IMac for me. It worked. But now it is happening again. Safari quits unexpectedly while I am trying to open attached files or download anything. I hate that. I want that to never happen again. And I don't actually know how to reinstall the system. I am afraid of doing smthing wrong. So I have to call apple or my friend. What  is the easiest way and solution for that? What is the reason for this problem?
    Thank you.

    Try the following:
    1. Shutdown the computer and then start it up again, see if Safari repeats the problem.
    2. Consider the source file, if it is just one or the same ones all the time but other open, the files are the problem and not Safari.
    3. Run a permissions repair on the mac. Do this via Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and select the hard drive (Second Icon with the Hard Drive Name, not the one showing the drive size above it) in the left pane and in the bottom middle click on permissions repair, don'yt worry you won't break the computer.

  • Having used Distort crashes CS4 when trying to open additional files

    I have a strange problem that I've started experiencing since upgrading my PC. I was previously running CS4 and Lightroom 2 without problems on Windows XP Pro 32 bit - I recently upgraded to new hardware and Windows Vista 64 bit so that I could use more RAM as I was regularly receiving running out of RAM messages when working on large print resolution files.
    My current setup is:
    P6T Motherboard
    Intel Core i7 CPU 2.67 GHz
    12 GB RAM
    Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit
    NVIDIA GeForce 880 GTS video card
    One entire physical disk (70 GBs) solely as a scratch disk
    More than half of C drive free
    Other disks with free space in scratch disk list
    I have narrowed it down to a specific activity:
    1) From Lightroom I choose 'Edit in Photoshop' (a RAW file) I could open more than one file at this point, no problem yet
    2) Once a file or files are opened I choose to implement a Distort/Twirl (I have a very specific reason for using this command, developing elements for other creative works)
    3) Having performed a Twirl distortion, I then choose to open another RAW file from Lightroom, choose Edit in Photoshop - Photoshop then just hangs, without opening the file and I see the message that it has stopped responding. I then have to forcibly end Photoshop and reopen it
    4) This still occurs if from Lightroom, I choose 'Show in Explorer' and then try to open the RAW file by itself, Photoshop stops responding
    I seem to get very good performance on other things I've tried. For example, choosing 22 files with varying focal lengths to Merge to Panorama in Photoshop - goes without a hitch.... Again it seems specifically linked to having performed the distort effect. Also tried Distort/Wave and the same occurred, stopped responding when trying to open another file.
    Have deleted prefs files, reinstalled Lightroom etc, turned off Open GL, twiddled with the cache and RAM levels, turned off export clipboard etc... still the same.
    Any ideas?
    Can anyone replicate this?

    It hangs.... That is the application window stays up, but nothing further happens and the top information bar says the application is not responding. I don't think it has anything to do with Lightroom...
    I have narrowed this problem down to being specifically related to the 64 bit version of CS4 Photoshop Extended. I have tested the same procedure in 32 bit Photoshop without incident.
    I have to say this is pretty distressing as the procedure I am trying to carry out is at the heart of my original motivation to take the plunge and do the whole 64 bit upgrade, particularly being able to access all the RAM I now have. Using the 32 bit version in many ways plunges me back to where I started... :-(
    I have spent the whole of today uninstalling the whole Creative Suite, running the cleaning utilites etc, reinstalling, uninstalling (many, many times with various problems with the installation process) and still have the same problem (although now, I cannot install Acrobat Pro, the installation fails - but that's another issue). I currently have Lightroom2 uninstalled and am experiencing the exact same problem.
    This is it in a nutshell:
    1) Open any RAW file in Photoshop 64 bit (I am opening.RAF files)
    2) Apply a Distort/Twirl to it
    3) TRY to open another RAW file
    At this point, the file will not open and Photoshop will stop responding - requiring a forcible shut down and the loss of any unsaved work
    Could it be something related to Adobe Camera RAW? I have now found that if I open a photoshop file after performing a Distort/Twirl for example, the problem does not occur. So it perhaps points to the ACR app?

    The first error has nothing to do with Photoshop - that's some .NET application.
    The second error is most likely connected to a third party plugin or driver.
    And you're running Photoshop CC (14.x) instead of the current Photoshop CC 2014 (15.x).

  • NavigateToURL() not working when trying to open a file.

    Hi,
    I am working on an AIR Flex application running on the local Windows system.
    Following code works when accessing the file from my local system.
    I want to display a file which is present in a remote server.
    In ActionScript, The below code does NOT work.
    var url:String = "\\<RemoteServerName>\d1\abc.pdf";
    var   request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
    flash.net.navigateToURL(request,
    "_blank");
    When I am trying to open the file manually, e.g. Start -> Run -> Open (\\<RemoteServerName>\d1\abc.pdf), the document opens fine.
    Please let me know if there are any other way of opening a file from remote location.
    Thank You,
    Sway

    Thanks rkewlani,
    I think I am geting closer for a solution though I am getting a new error after changing the URL.
    My new url:String looks like
    var url:String = file:\\RemoteServerName\d1\abc.pdf;
    var  request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
    flash.net.navigateToURL(request,"_blank");
    Error I get is :
    SecurityError: Error #2121: Security sandbox violation: navigateToURL: app:/XXX.swf cannot access file:\\RemoteServerName\d1\abc.pdf;. This may be worked around by calling Security.allowDomain.
    I added Security.allowDomain("*") to the creationComplete event of the form, Now the error is
    SecurityError: Error #3207: Application-sandbox content cannot access this feature.
    at flash.system::Security$/allowDomain()
    Any help on this.
    Thanks,
