Reader tries to open every program

After installation of reader 11.0.03 I cannot open or run any program but pdf. Always the reader tries to open the program and all the icons are adobe readers.Uninstall solves the problem, but then I cannot open pdf files...seems to be a "catch-22" situation...

  • Adobe Reader tries to open all files even Excel and Word docs.

When I try to open files that are sent to me, the Adobe Reader tries to open them all instead of an Excel file getting opened automatically by Excel and a .doc being opened by Word.
The message I get by the Reader says it cannot open it, of course. (I have Windows Vista on my HP computer if that is the problem.) Someone told me to take the default off of the Reader so the files open and download in the proper software program, but I am unable to find such a "default" option in the Reader program properties.
I never had this problem with any previous Windows version, so not sure if it is my computer, or the Reader. How can I fix this so when I download or open a file, it automatically opens in the right software?

This means that the file associations of the various Office programs have been muddled up somehow. Try an Office repair install; that should correct the file associations.

adobe tries to open every file i download, how do i stop this?

This is a file association problem. You can change the files Adobe Acrobat can open, but the method depends upon your version of the operating system. There used to be an entry in the Acrobat/Reader Faq on how to do this.

Installed acrobat pro but upon trying to open the program I am directed to a window to purchase on-line version of creative cloud.  What to do?

    Hi Susan,
    Please try the following:
The path listed below points to the Library folder at the root of your startup disk, not the Library folder in your user home folder.
Delete all the files from following folders:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/SL Store/
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/SL cache/
And, delete all files from following folder except cache.db
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PCD/
Then launch Acrobat, Accept EULA and enter the serial number again and check.

  • Adobe tries to open all programs and con not be uninstall

Hi, I am using Windows XP and I installed Adobe Reader X 10.1.3 But after I installed Adobe, I could not open any files except the ones on desktop. I can not use any of them from Start or Control Panel. I tried to uninstall Adobe from Control Panel>Default Programs>Program Install/Unistall but still tries to open with Adobe. Is there any other way that I can uninstall?

It seems that the file association for .exe and .cpl may have been corrupted (and are now pointing to Adobe Reader).
Can you open Windows Explorer, or does it give you the same problem?
When did this start?  Can you possibly do a System Restore to a date before it started?
This may be quite difficult to solve if you cannot open any .exe or .cpl files.

  • "Internal Error" when Reader tries to open

    Hi all,
"Internal Error" message shows up whenever a non admin user tries to open a PDF or the reader directly.

I have Adobe Reader (9.2.0 and 9.3.0, but it doesnt seem matter as prob is on either) installed on XP workstations and a windows 03 terminal server. All working dandy until recently when we switched off roming profiles and redirection of appdata to accomodate a transition to a new system shortly.
Reinstall / reboot / uninstall / reboot all brings up same prob.
My guess is i need to change something in the registry, maybe a permission or something, since Adobe Reader must be looking for something / denied access to something it think is there but isnt. If i create a new profile for a user, the problem disappears. Im reluctant to do this for everyone though.
Any of you guys clever enough to point me in the right direction?

    Hi all,
Turns out needed to edit the registry in order to get appdata pointing to the correct place using the variable %appdata% instead of the old network location.
Found this from looking at other posts, thanks.

  • Reader tries to open vnd.ms-word

    Hi,
I have created some ASP pages with a view to opening them and displaying them in Word. In order to do this I have put in the following code in the head of the Doc:
    <% Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-word"
    Response.Buffer = True %>
This has worked successfully for all 11 computers in the office, and others on other sites - now all running either Vista or Windows 7 - except for one. On a new Windows 7 machine, if I try to open up the page, Adobe Reader seems to get in the way, by coming up with a dialog box saying:
"Adobe Reader could not open 'AR905F1.tmp' because it is either not a supported file type, or because the file has been damaged (e.g. it was sent as an email attachment and not correctly decoded)"
If I uninstall Adobe Reader, then it opens up in Word OK, but Word does come up with a message saying that it can't load the CSS file - so if I OK that, it loads the page, but without any CSS styling.
All other computers have had no problem with this whatsoever, but this one machine is important to get it working. Can anyone please help?!

  • I updated Firefox, now every time I click on the Dock image my Mac reloads the disc image on my desktop and tells me this is the first time I've tried to open the program. What's going on? This is very annoying.

I contacted Sony, who spent 90 minutes trying to help me fix this, to be told it is a problem with the program, not the computer. I have deleted every trace of the program then reloaded it, three times, with the same results every time. This all started when I added a bunch of 'extras' from Mozilla. These 'add-ons' remain in the program when it is reloaded, so they may be the problem.

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the Firefox disk image (DMG) file and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.<br />
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.

  • Firefox failed to initialize upon trying to open the program

Firefox will not open, program has warning come up stating Firefox failed to initialize click ok to terminate the program. Firefox will not even open, and I updated it as well. Sill won't open. Cannot access any portion of the firefox as it keeps saying failed to initialize click ok to terminate the program, no other option is on the warning. It is just not opening. I don't know how to fix it as firefox won't open. Using internet explorer to relay the program isn't working.

  • Adobe Reader trying to open all .exe and .ink extensions

Upon installation of Adobe Reader all the programs that I have (and other files) are now trying to execute through this. Obviously this means I can no longer open the likes of my media player, skype and all other software packages. I would like to know is there a setting or something in adobe reader which I can turn off to stop it doing this.

"...Windows won't go anywhere near my Mac unless I need to access a critical application for work/business that is available for Windows only..."
Second this. I have several programs that I simply have to have for which there are no Mac versions or equivalents. For this reason, I have a windoze peecee sitting next to my Mac, taking up space that I would love to use for something else. The idea of being able to run these apps on my Mac is sufficient motivation for me to plan on replacing my beloved G5 with a new Mac Pro. I will most certainly wait until my other "critical" apps (Photoshop, inDesign, etc.) are released in stable universal versions but that's the only thing holding me back at this point. But to run windoze on my Mac for some dippy ipod thing?...NOT!

I have a program called commission killer that I have downloaded and I can't open it because it says compileBot has stopped working. It then tells me to either close the program or have Windows look for a solution and then it closes without any solution. I want to be able to use this program and yet I don't know what to do to correct this. I have deleted it closed the firewall and the security program AVG but that didn't work either when I redownloaded the program. Any suggestions>?
