Reader Version 11 - Save Toolbar Preferences

I updated to Adobe Reader version 11 and can no longer save my toolbar preferences. Why was this feature removed on the latest version of Reader? I have seen a blog that shows "Customize" button on toolbar but I do not have access to this button on the free Adobe Reader. Is this only available to those that pay for Adobe Acrobat?

I did some additional work on trying to find differences between Adobe Reader X and XI. I found this piece of information on Adobe Reader X:
"Easily access the tools you use most with the customizable Quick Tools area"
This is found at the link below:
http://blogs.adobe.com/acrolaw/files/2011/04/AcrobatXFamilyMatrixlong.pdf
It is on sheet 2 of 4. It seems to me that Reader X had customizable tools and Reader XI does not. If this is NOT the case, please let me know.
Thanks.

  • Acrobat Reader Versions and saveAs, exportXFAdata Problems

We use generate Forms with Reader Extension Save enabled.
The forms are then opened within Acrobat Reader. In the onClose Event a Script called "saveXMLData" is called. This script is install in the javascript folder of the reader installation.
    The script :
    var saveXMLData = app.trustedFunction(function(doc)
         app.beginPriv();
         doc.saveAs({cPath:"/c/windows/temp/savedForm.pdf",
              bCopy: true,
              bPromptToOverwrite: false });
         doc.exportXFAData({
              cPath:"/c/windows/temp/savedForm.xml",
              bXDP:false
         app.endPriv();
         return;
Using Acrobat Reader 7, eveything worked fine.
Using Acrobat Reader 9 "saveAs" crashes the Application after the document is saved and the filled in Data is not saved.
Without the saveAs function, at least the export File is generate but the data that where filled in are missing.
Using Acrobat Reader X "saveAs" crashes the Application as well. Leavin out the saveAs function, the export File is generated as expected. Thus the filled in data values are saved.
Using Acrobat X Pro everything works as with Acrobat Reader 7.
Our Problem is that the customer uses Acrobat Reader 9. Are there expected incompatibilities with the different versions. Does anybody know any workarounds, settings?
By the way disabling extended security does not help.
    Thanks
    Max

It cannot be a problem of the installation, because at least Windows 7
was a fresh install with nothing but Reader additionally installed.
By the way, what do you mean by "risky", I followed straight the
documentation from Adobe, where one is allowed to place function calls
    requiring a privileged context.
Have you any better idea where to place the call to save? It must be
called automatically, when the User closes the window, no additional
    interaction is possible.
One other thing is the call to exportXFAData, have you any idea why
there is a difference in behavior between reader version 7 / 10 and 9?
I wrote that in version 9 the user entered data is missing.

    No, it doesn't work.
Sorry, I don't have any ideas except for trying to repair the installation
    of Reader.
However, placing code in the WillClose event is considered risky and should
be avoided if there are alternatives available.

  • Adobe Reader Version 11.0.11 Won't allow me to save pfd after amendments

We are currently using Adobe Reader Version 11.0.10.
When we open and existing pdf file then make any changes (using the Fill & Sign Tab at the top right hand side) then click Save it won't save the file.  We have to re-name the file in order to save it.
This was working ok back in January and wondered if there has been an up-date since then that has made this error occur?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey kayh39980225,
Could you please try unchecking 'Enable Protected Mode' option under Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced) and then check again.
Let me know if this helps.

  • Why wont my yahoo toolbar save my preferences? It will on IE, just not FF

About 2 weeks ago, my Yahoo toolbar stopped saving my toolbar preferences (ie apps quick links to sites such as Facebook or Pinterest). I can sign in to Yahoo, change the TB preferences, and as long as I don't log out of FF, they will stay. As soon as I sign out they go back to default settings. After searching the Yahoo forums I see that it's not just me having this issue, but no one in the Yahoo forums can figure out what's happened and of course we get no help or answers what so ever from Yahoo as they have literally cut off email and phone communication. I noticed tonite that it does save them on the Yahoo toolbar in Internet Explorer. I really don't like IE as I have far too many problems there, have always used FF. This leads me to believe that the problem may exist in the FireFox network. PLEASE help us!

It sounds like your browser is only configured to store cookies until you close Firefox, at which point they are all deleted. Cookies allow the websites you visit to store information on your computer such as your user interface preferences, so that after you changed some setting it stays that way until the cookie is deleted (usually when it expires which is often an arbitrarily long time such as 100 years). If there is no cookie to indicate a preference, then the default settings will be used - in this case that you don't have any quick links on your toolbar and you don't wish to save any.
Here is how solve your problem:
    * Click the orange Firefox button in the top left (or 'Tools' if you don't have the button)
    * Go to 'Options' > 'Options' (or just 'Options' if you clicked 'Tools')
    * In the new window click the 'Privacy' heading/tab
    * Where it says 'Firefox will:', choose 'Use custom settings for history'
    * Make sure that 'Accept cookies form sites' is checked, and that where it says 'Keep until:', 'they expire' is selected
You may need to restart your browser for the changes to take effect.

We are currently using Adobe Reader Version 11.0.10.

Thank you.  We have tried that but it has not made any difference.  Adobe still requires a new file name to save the file.

  • Upgraded to Reader version 11.0.10, now I can not fill out a form and save as same file

I used to be able to open a template pdf file and then fill out form fields (ie customer address, etc.), then save the pdf file to the same name.  After upgrading to version 11.0.10, the reader gives an error that I need to change the name or folder.  Any suggestions  on how to get around this?  Still works with Acrobat XI Pro on this computer, and Reader version 11.0.0 on another computer.  I can't change the name or save to a different folder because the pdf file is attached to a customer in a database program.

Make sure the Preview panel in Windows Explorer is disabled.

  • Updated Firefox won't save my preferences; reverts to original settings.

A few days ago, Firefox updated itself to the 18.0.1 version. Now, each time Firefox updates itself, I tend to lose some of my preferences, those being: opening new tabs as a blank page, tabs being on the bottom, and showing my windows and tabs from last time. Usually, though, once I go and change these things back to the way I like them, they stay like that and I have no further problems.
However, this time Firefox won't save my preferences. The tabs go back to being on top, the tabs I last closed aren't there, and these tool bars I don't want keep appearing. Instead, three tabs are always there upon opening Firefox: Welcome to Firefox, Mozilla Firefox Start Page, and Yahoo! Toolbar. Also, when opening a new tab, the page says, "page does not exist" or something, and the URL is not even comprehensible, just random letters like someone bashed their head into the keyboard, something like: "jkfui87$^&%$$09."
I've tried resetting Firefox like it says in the "How to fix preferences that won't save" page, but it didn't help. As for deleting certain files from the profile folder, before I resetted Firefox, I only had "user" and "prefs" and "Invalidprefs" which weren't exactly what that self-helping page asked for so I didn't delete them. After I resetted Firefox I lost the "user" file, but I still have the other two. Should I try deleting them even if they're not exactly like the page describes? They are missing the ".js" part so I haven't felt comfortable messing with them.
Please give me some advice. I'm tired of having to go change my settings in "about:config" each time I open Firefox. But I really don't want to try anything that would delete my bookmarks or history, as I'm very dependent of them.

Obviously no one here actually READS these things, I tried all of that even did a clean install, even uninstalled all user data and THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE!
Your help is completely useless, All you people do is copy and paste the same thing over and over. If it didn't work the first 20 times it's still not going to work no matter how many times you copy and paste the same fucking link.
You have lost a die hard fan of Firefox, I am switching to another browser.
Unfortunately I tried older versions of Firefox and had to go all the way back to Firefox 4 and now the problem is fixed.

  • How do I save library preferences?

This should be simple but I cannot make it happen.  When I upgraded last night to the new version of iTunes, "podcasts" was unchecked as a category to display in my library.  I can re-check the box, but the preferences/general dialog box doesn't have an option to save my changes--and the changes aren't saved if I close the box.  How do I save these preferences?

Thanks..... However, I cannot get Firefox to come up, so I cannot find the folder that has the info.

  • Can I save different preferences with different workspaces in illustrator CS5?

    Greetings,
I am wondering if I can save different preferences through workspaces?  Or if this cannot be done I was wondering if it is possible to script a particular set of preferences for a computer.  The purpose would be to make certain all preferences are set identically on each computer.  Does anyone have any experience with this?
    Brian

I would save it as EPS (version Illustrator 3). This should be compatible to almost any  software that takes EPS.

  • I can't save my "preferences" on iTunes.

I have iTunes on my PC at work and at home. At work, I have turned off the "crossfade" preference and at the bottom of the page is an "ok" button which allows me to save my changed preference.
On my iTunes at home, all the same preference selections are there, but there is no way to save the preference. So, I deselect the "crossfade" option, but when you exit, the crossfade gets turned right back on because there is no "ok" or "save" button.
I have upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and STILL there is no option for saving my preferences.
Has anyone else run into this quirk?

Is the iTunes volume control up far enough and can you see the time elapsed indicator moving?
If both these things are okay, then check your audio settings for your computer; has the mute control been turned on (which mutes the sound)? The mute control may be different on your computer, but on mine, there is a small speaker icon in the bottom right corner (on the taskbar).
If the taskbar speaker has that red-crossed circle, then the volume is muted. Click on it to open the "speaker" bar and then click on the speaker in the speaker bar to un-mute. Also, the slider control is another volume control, separate from the iTunes one. This must be up towards the top of the scale.

  • PDF forms and how they work with different Reader versions

I'll start this off by giving a little background information and describing a workflow scenario. I work as an InHouse designer for a company that keeps the majority of the employee population always a few versions behind. Fortunately, for us designers they keep us updated, but it doesn't always play nicely when you're saving your PDFs for older versions of Acrobat Reader.
What happens is that I create a form in InDesign, export a PDF, and then create my form fields in Acrobat Pro 9 on a Mac. After saving for version 9 I then take the PDF and test within the Windows environment which our IT is enforcing Acrobat Reader 7. The PDF opens ok and I can fill out the form, but I cannot save. I then open in Acrobat Pro 7 for Windows and then it gives the option to save or make modifications.
My questions really come down to whether or not Reader 7 is doing this because of how old the technology is, or if that would change if our IT would allow Acrobat Reader 8 or 9? Now I've looked at the Acrobat Pro 9 comparison chart and it states "Enable users of Adobe Reader®   (version 8 or later) to fill in and save PDF forms locally." Does this mean that we just need version 8 or 9 and then people can save the form? What in version 7 is causing us not to be able to save? Did that change the technology in some way? I'm trying to figure out if we get IT to upgrade users to Reader 9 if this will solve the issue or will they have to install Acrobat Standard/Pro 9 to save a PDF form?
What other selling points could we make to our IT department that using Reader 9 is a lot better than using Reader 7? Any technology benefits, security or functions?
    Thanks

    ~graffiti wrote:
No version of Reader can save a filled in form unless it has been enabled first.
To enable, open the file in Acrobat then go to Advanced>Enable usage rights in Adobe Reader...
And for my standard disclaimer, if you are going to use the forms in a corporate environment, be sure to study and understand the usage limits for enabled forms (the limit is 500 uses, but there are caveats to that) in the EULA. Mostly the enabled forms are meant for very small time users. If you do not meet that requirement, Adobe sells another product that can enable files for unlimited uses but it costs in the tens of thousands of dollars and is a server side solution.
    Hey Graffii,
I enabled the usage rights and that did help with saving in Reader 7. I am a little concerned about the limit of 500 uses. Let me try and understand you a little better. I have a PDF that has a couple form fields and you're saying that the PDF can only be opened 500 times? I've never heard of restrictions on PDFs before. Does this happen after you place just 1 form field? How do I find out more information? I looked in the EULA, but found nothing.
Also, what does Adobe mean here "Enable users of Adobe Reader®   (version 8 or later) to fill in and save PDF forms locally." Are they saying that you need Reader 8 or later to read a form or that you need Acrobat Pro 8 or later to enable the form feature?
It's all very confusing because one of the features they tout in version 9 is the ability to save forms locally, but once I enable the form I could save it with Reader 7. It's hard to tell if they are referring to Reader 9 or Acrobat Pro 9.
    Thanks

  • How do I install Reader Version 8 and Version 11 on the same computer?

I have old fillable forms that will not work with the free reader above vesion 8.  I also have programs that require the free reader version or above.  I am trying to get both the free reader versions 8 and 11 on the same computer.  When I installed version 11, version 8 was removed.  When I tried to reinstall version 8 the message said I had a more up to date version and the install stopped.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion, it worked!  What I had to do was after steps 1 & 2
    3.  move the entire Version 8 folder to a flash drive
    4.  reinstall Version 11
    5.  add a new folder called Adobe 8 to the program file directory
    6.  copy Version 8 folder from flash drive file to new folder
    7.  add shortcut to desktop.
Now I can open my old forms in Version 8 and edit and save them.
    Thanks again.

  • Set default reader extened to save a pdf form using reader?

is there a way to set it so all forms created are Reader exteneded so they can be saved. why is that shut off anyway? I want them to be able to save it and send it back to me? So now I have to go in an manually open each one andclick several options save it "AND" as a new file as well.

You have to create it yourself using a folder-level JavaScript. The script would use the app.addToolButton method to create the toolbar button and app.execMenuItem to trigger the corresponding menu item (e.g., Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader or File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features.) • Adobe Reader Versions Compatible with Window 7 & I.E. 8.0

We have a few users that experience blank pages or a pop-up with no text and only an OK button when trying to open an Adobe (web) Form with Adobe Reader 9.0 or 9.4.2 or 9.4.0 on Window 7 and I.E. 8.  Adobe Reader X is not an option since it is not supported within our firm. Does anyone have a list of the compatible Adobe Reader Versions for Windows 7 and I.E. 8. I'm sure this is highly unlikely, but does Adobe have a matrix that indicates the compatible version according to O.S. and Browser?

What is your operating system and email client?  If you use web-based email, in what browser?
What exactly does "not work" mean?  I have no problems using Save As with email attachments and Reader 11.0.6.
