Reader window doesn't resize elements between monitors

Reader 11.0.10 on Windows 8.1 x64. I have a dual monitor setup with two 80cm (30") monitors. One is an Eizo EV3237 UHD monitor running at its native 3840x2160 resolution, the other is a Dell U3011 running at its native 2560x1600 resolution. Because the monitors are the same physical size but quite different resolution, I have unchecked the Control Panel option "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays" (in Control Panel / Display), so that Windows chooses different scaling levels for each monitor to keep windows, menu text, icons etc the same size on both monitors. This works well for all applications *except* the two Adobe applications I have installed - Adobe Reader and Photoshop Elements 13. Both of these display the window elements such as menu text, icons etc at the same size as other applications on the Eizo UHD monitor, but at a ridiculously large size on the Dell monitor. For all other applications I use, when I drag a non-maximized application window between monitors, the window retains the scaling of the source monitor until half of the window is on the target monitor, at which point the scaling changes to that for the target monitor. However, both Reader and PSE13 retain the scaling of the high-res monitor even when the entire window is on the lower-res monitor, so all the window elements are too large.
Some Googling shows that Adobe have had scaling problems with their applications for years, but seem too incompetent to fix it.

Hello,
We have semiliar problems in sweden with Adobe Reader X 10.1 Swe and Internet Explorer 8.0 with streamed PDF files.
We had some issues and got them resolved by the following
Upgraded to Adobe Reader 10.1.2.45 Eng
- Print Issue:http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-wont-print-reader-10.html
- Grey box in Internet explorer: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-opens-grey-screen-browser.html
- Add site as trusted: Edit-> Preferences, unbox Enable Enhanced Security + add the host/url to site that is whitelisted to send pdf files
(the Automaticly trust sites from mu Win OS security zones doesnt work for us)
The thing is we run MUI pack on our Citrix servers and want Adobe Reader in Swe but it havent been translated yet...
So we have to wait for the swedish release on Adobe Reader X 10.1.2
Thanks,

  • Adobe Acrobat CS3 window doesn't resize

    Hello,
I'm currently using Adobe CS 3 on a Lenovo X200T with Windows 7 installed.  I have a problem with Acrobat CS3 which I have not had with prior computers.  I find that whatever size the window is when I open an acrobat document, it stays that size.  I mean, I can resize the borders and all, but the document doesn't follow it.  For example, if I open the document and it is windowed and in a corner of the page, and I maximize it, acrobat will maximize but the document stays the same just with a larger grey border to fill up the space.  The scrollbars don't move either, so when I make the window small, they just disappear sometimes and I can't navigate easily.  The only way to get the window size I want is to resize the window, close adobe, then open the document again.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
    Eric

I think that CS3 is related to AA8. If it is, you will likely have to upgrade for Win 7. AA9 is the only version currently certified for WIn 7.

  • Reader window jumps between monitors

I'm running Reader 9.5.1  on Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon. I have dual monitors setup as single X screen with the Nouveau driver. If I have Adobe Reader open on the right-hand monitor, and I open a PDF file, the Adobe Reader window jumps back to the left-hand monitor as the file is opened. This happens regardless of whether I open the file by using the File / Open menu in Acroread or by right-clicking on a PDF in Nautilus and choosing "Open with Adobe Reader".
This gets highly annoying, and it doesn't happen with any other application that I use - I can put any of them on the RH monitor and open files without the application moving. Anyone know why it happens or how to fix it?

I do the exact same thing but I have no problem.
    You should post some code.

Got the "apple firewire ntsc" choice to show up even if grayed out and "missing" under "audio/visual" menus by recreating choices in Easy Setup under "final cut pro" MENU thank GOODNESS because I was reading horror stories on here about this under another thread with someone trashing preferences, reinstalling and the works and still not getting it to show up...on my search now for an analog/digital converter up at b&h...find it odd that the s video connector wouldn't show the crt monitor when I put both displays through the 3870...I switched it back to see if it worked again when only the one dell monitor display was there and there it is again mirroring the screen display on my desktop...just can't be seen as an "external monitor" in fcp...couldn't find anything specific in the shane ross threads to this. I'm sad the program doesn't just see the s video connection though the 3870 though my computer does fine and will query up at b&h in regard to what might be affordable as far as a digital/analog converter. It's also weird in itself that when I put the two dell monitors on the one card my computer no longer could see the s video crt connection...makes no sense. Will report in later as to what I discover up at b&h as I'm sure there's a world of people out there using this sony crt monitor still even into the upgrades with computers and software so I imagine therein lies the solution. Thanks again and I'll report in as to what hardware might be suggested for me.

  • Adobe reader window resize problem on Vista 64 bits

I would like to react to this post:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c062469
When I resize an adobe reader window the text body in the window does not follow. By accident I have noticed that pressing F4 (show and hide Navigation Pane) twice solves this.
Is there a solution, so I don't need to press F4 twice?
    thank you!

History notice: Problem still reproducing with Adobe Reader 9.5.4 on Ubuntu 13.04 (April 2013).
Solution: The fix is to simply add the 32 bit version of the missing library. To be sure that you get them all consisstently, just:
        sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
Note: Solution seen on this article from the judsonsnotes.com website.

  • Tile/cascade windows doesn't work in Unix Reader

I'm running Reader 9.4.7 on Ubuntu 10.04 amd64. There are menu items on the Reader Window menu to cascade windows or tile them vertically or horizontally, but nothing happens when I select these menu items - I can still only see one of the tabbed open documents at a time. The same menu items work fine in the Windows version of Reader. Were the Adobe programmers just too lazy to either remove them or implement the code behind them when building the Unix version?
The only way to view two PDFs is to detach the tab for one of them into a completely separate window. That sort of works, but a fair bit of screen space is lost through having two separate Reader windows open, each with a tab, menu bar, and toolbar.

Not especially, I just like to be up to date with things. Whilst aware of that saying, I don't subscribe to it. I have RSS feeds for various apps and drivers so I knwo when there are new versions of them.
The card has a limitation which I think could be worked around with a driver change that to me, as an outsider, seems like it could be relatively simple. But, obviously it might not be, and there could be technical reasons this isn't done rather than an oversight. But I'd just like to keep up to date in case any changes on this front ever happen.

  • Yosemite, Boot Camp, Windows 8.1 - Resizing Partition Guide

Hey everyone, I had some success with this so I thought I would share:
    What you Need:
    0)  familiarity with the command line, HD partitioning, linux, and lots of nerve.
    1)  Yosemite
    2)  A successful installation of Windows via Boot Camp (I was using 8.1 and I did the installation after I upgraded to Yosemite, i.e., I did not have a Boot Camp partition before upgrading to Yosemite) <-- Any other type of config may not work with this guide!!
    3)  A Linux live usb/cd with gparted (I assume you're familiar with linux and gparted and things like that, I'm not going to go into too many details on how to use that OS or its tools)
    4)  patience and luck
Disclaimer:  This can really screw up your system if you fail to follow the directions or you have made the storage gods angry... use at your own risk!
So initially I created a boot camp partition to install Windows 8.1 and after the installation realized I should have allocated more space for Windows.  On the OS X side, I opened the graphical diskutil and discovered I could not resize or change either of the partitions - the only thing I could do was delete the boot camp partition which was not a handy option considering the time I put into installing Windows and its subsequent updates.
After some careful googling I found this:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/134498/unable-to-resize-partitions
Which led me to the solution.  From a terminal run:  'diskutil corestorage list' (without the quotes) to get a list of the logical volumes, groups, and physical disks that OS X created after using boot camp.  The information you will need is the UUID of the logical volume (not the logical volume group or family).  You are then going to use the undocumented command 'diskutil corestorage resizeStack' with the UUID of the logical volume in order to change the size of the volumes and physical disk.  In my case, I wanted to shrink my remaining OS X partition by 40GB and give that to Windows.  Again from the terminal run:
'diskutil corestorage resizeStack UUID XXXg'  where UUID is the 32 digit identifier of the logical volume and XXX is the desired new size of the disk (e.g., 350g for 350 GB).
After a few moments, it will finish and in diskutil you should see an amount of unallocated space.  You still can't do anything with it here, but at least it's visible.  Reboot into OS X again just to feel confident that you haven't screwed anything up, yet.  It did seem to take slightly longer to reboot into OS X this one time, but everything turned out ok
Now using a linux live usb drive, boot into your favorite brand of linux and run gparted.  You should see your unallocated space sandwiched between your OS X partition (which gparted may or may not formally 'see') and the NTFS Windows partition.  Simply move the Windows partition over to occupy the unallocated space and extend it to the end of drive and you're done.  My version of gparted warned me that Windows may not boot after I do this, but for me, it worked fine and booted into Windows properly the first time.  If Windows doesn't boot, you'll need a Windows install on a usb stick (you should have one from your boot camp installation right?) and then you'll need to repair the disk (there are many helpful guides that go through this very thing - just google it).
It worked for me flawlessly, good luck!

Everything has worked so far, I have freed up about 75GB that is in between OSX and my 8.1 Bootcamp Partition, however I can't for the life of me seem to make a working Linux USB. How can you make a BOOTABLE (from this retina macbook pro) Live CD with Gparted. What tools/ISO did you use?

  • Images Change Colors between monitors while the UI stays the same

Hey! Im having an issue where photoshop changes the colors when I move the window between my monitors, seen here: http://sta.sh/04y5s60vf3j This isnt due to the monitors themselves being different, it actually changes after a few seconds of moving it inbetween the monitors. The left one has been callibrated with a spyder 3 elite which I no longer have access to. I applied the file with windows color management instead of the spyder utility. The second one is new, and it is not callibrated by anything, but instead was done by hand with the built in brightness/contrast/custom RGB settings. Both of them are very close to eachother, enough so for my tastes. but when photoshop changes what the image looks like, it's causing problems. Interestingly enough, when I disable callibration for the monitor on the left, the image does not change colors between monitors, but instead always appears as it does on the right. but then they don't match up and the whole screen looked washed out because it's uncallibrated, so that doesnt do me any good. Another interesting thing to point out, is when this image is saved as a .JPG, and viewed with firefox the image appears exactly like the monitor on the LEFT (which is my main monitor) despite the left monitor being the one that is force changed. does anyone have any suggestions? It also appears that windows photoviewer is behaving the same way, though firefox does not. Meaning when I open an image in all 3 on the left monitor, they look the same, but when opened on the right monitor, windows photo viewer and photoshop both display the image as brighter and redder than firefox does. This is frustrating, because it seems photoshop is changing the image with my callibration on my left monitor to match what it looks like on the web, which it does. but it doesn't do this for the right monitor, or when the left is uncallibrated. Another issue I can see with this is even if the UI is the same shade of gray, the images are different between the monitors because of this change. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Alright! So I reread through all this, poked at some things on the internet, and I'm going to attempt to summarize what would be a good solution for all this (And it seems, it still won't be perfect, but to get myself into the best environment I can for not messing with images for an hour trying to make them look nice before I post them to the web. I painted something yesterday on the cintiq, popped it over to my laptop screen and it just looked washed out and terrible.)
    1. Get a X-rite EODIS3 i1 Display Pro, Callibrate laptop and cintiq. I do have the money to drop on something like this, especially if it's a time saver.
         Things I'm not sure about:
              a. There was a ton of complaints about the software not working when I checked reviews, but also a ton that said everything was great. most of them were mac users though.
              b. I'm not sure if problems would still be posed, even while calibrated, by me having a wide gamut monitor.
              c. I'm a terrible excuse for a human being and I think the colors showing up brighter on the wide gamut screen is pretty (I should just make my images this bright on a normal screen and there won't be any issues. >.>)
    2. Set Firefox to color manage (easy enough)
    3. Change my photoshop working space to sRGB (since they'll have been calibrated at this point)
    3. Accept the fact that most of the people who look at my work will be doing so on a monitor that is almost certainly uncalibrated, and I can't control what they will see on my screen, but I CAN control if the colors are -actually- what I want them to be on any properly calibrated device. which is probably the best way to go anyways.
    4. Make paintings, have fun.
Now, you two have been going on about all sorts of interesting things in here, and it seems that calibration issue run much much deeper than I ever thought. Do either of you have recommendations for how I should tweak this list of things to do or other things I can/ should do? I'm not currently a working professional, but if I have anything to say about it, I will be within a few years (I'm going to school for illustration and studying concept design on my own time) so it'd be useful for me to get into good habits now.

  • Finder window won't resize after switching spaces

I've got my mbp set up with 12 spaces and designate apps to particular spaces.
When I open a new finder window in space 2, I can move it and resize it no problem.
If I then switch to another space and then switch back to space 2, I can't resize the finder window. I can still move it, but just can't resize it.
Does anyone know a way around this bug?
    Thanks!

I can also confirm this bug.  Finder windows seem to "forget" where they are on the screen.  This is very clear when renaming a file: the highlighted, editable filename text shows up some seemingly random distance from the filename displayed in the Finder window.
This can also be seen when using Quick Look.  The file zooms to the full Quick Look preview not from the file icon, but from some random point on the screen.
Same goes for dragging and dropping.  For example, if you want to drag a file into an existing folder, you have to hover some distance from the actual folder, the same distance you see when you rename a file or use Quick Look.  The Finder window doesn't know its position on the screen after using Spaces or Expose.

  • System-wide window enhancements (snapping, resizing from any edge)

I've been looking around for a program to make all of my application windows snap to screen edges and other windows. Also it'd be handy if windows could be resized from any edge; perhaps while only holding a modifier key. I couldn't find one, but I did find many comments on forums and such that indicate some people would like one. So, it looks like I'll have to make one.
I'm not really sure where to start, but I'll be looking into the behaviour of Adium (its windows snap). I'm aware that this is likely to be significantly different though, as I want this to be a Preference Pane (probably) that affects windows on a system-wide basis and eventually a per-application basis.
So I guess I need to know some things:
Firstly, would snapping and multi-edge resizing be possible within programming guidelines set by Apple? (I've heard 'interesting' things about Unsanity's APE [http://unsanity.com/haxies/ape] - supposedly it doesn't adhere to the "don't touch the system files" guideline/policy.)
If not, how possible is it? I'm guessing that retro-fitting a system-wide window behaviour won't necessarily be easy. (I know possibility, as a concept, is boolean, but anything is possible. I just want to know if it can be done within reasonable time and effort constraints. Perhaps less than a few months equivalent of man-hours...)
If either or both of those are satisfied, where would one start? User Experience, Core Foundation, Scripting & Automation, Cocoa?
Lastly, if anyone else likes the sound of this and thinks they could do it, by all means, please do.
    Please and thank you.

Check out Mondo Mouse - It lets you resize any re-sizable window using a key shortcut and dragging your mouse. I have it set to the Left Command Key, and then the window will resize in whatever way I drag my mouse.
Mondo Mouse also lets you set a key to move your windows as well. I have my Left Shift Key set, and whenever I push it, the window that is underneath my mouse can be moved any way I want.
I would be very interested in knowing what kinds of haxies you've found yourself, and what they do to enhance your user experience on the Mac. I have found the need to apply several haxies to my system to make it operate in a productive way for me -- in a way that is pleasing to me.
From USB Overdrive, to Mighty Mouse, to Mondo Mouse, to aLunch, to Witch, to Shapeshifter -- with these installed, I can finally feel "at home" with my Mac.
I bought Leopard but I'm back to Tiger until Unsanity updates Mighty Mouse for it.

  • Command tab - window doesn't switch

I use Command+tab to switch between windows. But many a times the window doesn't switch to, rather I get the options at the toolbar.
This is exactly the problem reported here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3458920?start=0&tstart=0
How can I resolve this issue?

Just found out that FoxTab 1.4.2b is causing this problem. Solution? Disable it.

  • Finder, Icon Slider bottom doesn't resize

hi, i have a small bug with my icon slider of Finder. it doesn't resize with the small slider at right bottom of a Finder window.
as you can see: the icons in the Finder window are very small (set by the slider right), but the slider left is set to the biggest icon size.
    but
if i go to a higher Finder level, change there the size of the icons (possible), return to the old Finder window (picture above), then:
the functionaltiy is actually, that the sliderposition left and right is synchronous.
that well running disappearing after couple of clicks or minutes.

I have the same issue. If I switch from a non-icon view to the icon view, the slider doesn't work. However, if I select icon view for a folder, then close the folder and re-open again, the slider works. I think the invisible database file for the folder display isn't getting updated correctly / at the right time.
Permission repair doesn't help, so I suspect a minor Finder bug. Hopefully 10.7.2 will fix.

  • Extended desktop doesn't work with 2 monitors and Yosemite

The desktop doesn't extend across the two screens now that I've upgraded to Yosemite. How can this be fixed?

What version of OS X were you on prior to Yosemite?  I was on Maverick and a window couldn't span over two monitors on Maverick either. I haven't had a need to span a window over multiple displays in a while so I wasn't missing it.  But now that you mention it, it would be nice to have that ability back for the few times when it does come in very handy and I'd like to use it.

  • Detect WHILE a window is being resized

    Hi,
Just got back into Java again. Used it in the from time to time during the last 13 years. Can't remember my old account or I would have used that one.
This time around I am using JavaFX instead of Swing. I was wondering how to detect while (not when) a window is being resized. I want to pause all drawing threads while the window is being resized. There doesn't seam to be any answers in the JavaFX API. Anyone have any possible solutions?
    Thanks,

Assuming you do your own painting and you are not using nodes in the scene, something like that might help:

        requestRepaint();
    // same on height.
