Reader won't launch in 64-bit linux

Reader (currently 9.3.3) tries to launch but fails with the error message : " acroread: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib32/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_malloc_n". OS is Kubuntu 10.04 x86-64 with 32-bit libs installed.

How is doing "make -l glib" supposed to help? Since there's no context (source or makefile) to run it with, it just invokes the response "make: ***No rule to make target 'glib'. Stop"

I have manually updated everything yes.
I have installed the trial version, 64 bit yes
I installed on the C drive, which is an SSD drive and has 73GB free space.
I tend to install programs on C as it is super fast, and keep data on the other drives, as they are big/slow/cheap
However i have not even got that far yet, so all on C up to this point.
I am on a network, however not sure that is "unusual", and I have upgraded many times in my life, however this is a new trial version installation on windows 7, so not really relevant.
I am also not sure why having multiple hard disks is not typical of someone who does things like video editing? I have attached the HDD infomation

Right now I am running:
Chrome (24 tabs), skype, putty (4 sessions), word (3 docs), Excel (2 docs), outlook, spark messenger, firefox (4 tabs), windows explorer (6 windows), IE9 (4 tabs), snagit, photoshop, winscp, 2 text editors, Visio (1 file), Project (1 file), dragon naturally speaking and virtual PC. My current CPU is 5% and RAM usage is 59%. so I think 4 is ok ;-)
When i try to launch Premiere i did so with all other applications closed. RAM never went above 50% in task manager.
the video cards are totally separate, no cross linking. Problem with disabling, is that I am running 5 monitors, using VGA, DVI, and Display Port. It has taken a lot of work to get them right using Catalyst and I find that any disruption tends to ruin the set up, and I might have to spend literally days getting it right again :-(
I have manually checked that I have the latest drivers. However this thing about drivers, means that you think that each time a new driver is released, Premiere will stop working. but how will it know that a new driver is released? And why would it stop working? I can understand having really out of date stuff, however running a recent install of win7 with all drivers up to date should be fine for installing a program...

It seems likely that having multiple graphics cards, with multiple screens is going to end up being the root cause, which is ironic given that a power user is more likely to do video editing, and have multiple screens...

Firefox Developer Edition won't launch (Win7 64-bit)

Hi,
I am running Windows 7 64-bit with the latest Windows updates. When I click the icon to launch Firefox Developer Edition, it will not launch and immediately open the Mozilla Crash Reporter. Details from the Crash reporter are below.
Things I have tried:
-Booting into Safe Mode by holding Shift key.
-Run Windows Memory Diagnostics (returned no errors).
-Updated Windows to latest updates.
-Perform a clean re-install (uninstall Firefox, deleting profiles, clearing keys from Windows Registry).
-Closed my antivirus (Kaspersky) before launching.
No matter what I do, FDE will crash at launch. Regular Firefox works just fine (which is odd to me). FDE works just fine with my same sync profile and same plugins on my Macbook Pro, but on my Windows 7 machine it crashes every time.
Please help! I love Firefox Developer Edition.

I have installed the latest drivers for my graphics card. I am unable to start Firefox in Safe Mode. I hold Shift and click the FirefoxDeveloperEdition and I get the Mozilla Crash Reporter just the same. Is there another way to enable Safe Mode or maybe disable hardware acceleration?

Reader won't launch for internet PDF

I have an old version of Acrobat (6) and the latest Reader 9.1. When I need to launch a PDF from the internet, it launches the Acrobat, which won't work since it is not the latest version. I do not want to delete the Acrobat since I use it for other reasons.
This problem just started when I had to reload the Acrobat. I changed all the settings in the "folder options/file types" to open with the reader, but this didn't correct the problem.
Is there a setting to open all internet PDF's with the reader?

Adobe doesn't support Reader and Acrobat on the same Windows computer. Too many problems. Open Reader on boot and don't launch Acrobat, then IE should use Reader for viewing pdfs.

I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the program 3 times. I have tried to have the installer "fix" the program through the "change" function in the Add/Remove programs area of the control panel. I have tried to update the graphics drivers like an earlier person with a similar problem had done with some success. Still no results. I never had any issues prior to upgrading to Reader XI.
Does anyone have any ideas?

64-bit Linux driver/associated SPE API for the Omnikey CardMan 3821 card reader

I am in the process of converting from a 32 bit to a 64 bit Linux machine. In the past I was able to use the SPE API for 32 bit Linux along with the 32 bit Linux ifdokccid device driver. However, using the speapi_lnx-amd64-1.0.1 along with ifdokccid_lnx_x64-3.7.0 isn't working for me. For example, when I attempt to do an SCardCCIDVerifyPIN function call, I get back a 6B80 APDU response. I noticed that the ifdokccid for 64 bit Linux requires PCSC lite 1.5.5, but the SPE API requires PCSC lite 1.2.9-beta7, which I'm guessing is not compatible. I am wondering if anybody has any ideas about how I should proceed to get my OMNIKEY 3821 reader to work in a 64-bit Linux environment?

ITunes won't launch in windows 7 64 bit

itunes used to work fine under Windows 7. Recently it stopped responding. It won't launch. I can see that the processes are running, in Task Manager. But iTunes never opens.
I have tried a dozen ideas from hardware review forums and I have done all that the Apple site suggests here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 64 bit and Quicktime and removed and re-installed the Apple Application Support.
Nothing so far has changed anything.
Can anyone help me find out why this is happening and how to correct it?

In recent times, the error-message-free iTunes and QuickTime launch failures have been indicating that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

Reader 10 X won't launch with changed thumbnail icon

I'm have an issue with getting Acrobat Reader to launch from a 3rd party program. Basically, in this program, you click 'view' and the pdf opens in Reader. However, on one of my computers, this isn't working. It looks like my computer's PDF default was set to launch in Windows Media Center, so I changed the default to launch with Adobe Reader. Now, in Windows Explorer, double clicking on any PDF file will launch Reader, but the icon is weird (see below) and the 3rd party program does nothing, as if it's confused as to what program to use.

See how the Adobe logo doesn't take up the whole icon place? Why is the logo on a white sheet of paper here? I suspect this is causing issues with the 3rd party program.
I have uninstalled Reader 10 and even reinstalled with 9... same issue.
Running Win7 32-bit.

I just downloaded Adobe Acrobat X Pro. I changed the PDF default program to X Pro and that's normal now. Normal icon and 3rd party program launches Acrobat. But when I switch the default back to the regular Reader, the icon changes to the image above and my program won't launch Reader. Any ideas other than purchasing Pro? What gives?

The only other idea I have to make sure Reader is uninstalled completely; use the Acrobat Cleaner Tool from http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Note: this tool will also uninstall Acrobat if it's installed on that computer.

Adobe Reader 9 Won't Launch

I installed Adobe Reader 9 and it won't open. Running XP Pro. Tried to open pdfs through IE9 and Google Chrome. Didn't work. Reader just won't launch. Does anyone have any solution(s)??

H20 - I solved my problem.
I can't say what exactly was the cause, because later this PM - I did everything I could think of - system restore, a FULL Virus Scan, I used Malwarebytes - nothing solved it.
Until I used Norton Power Eraser - it's advertised to find things that average virus scans can't - and in this case, I beleive it was a corrupt boot record on my machine? Anyway - I ran it, the whole thing took another 30 minutes or less - and my Acrobat is now back in business. A frustrating journey - but a statisfying end.
I am NOT endorsing this my any means - your experience may be different. I take no responsibility on what else could be affected by its use. Adobe Reader XI won't launch/read pdfs. No error message.

All of a sudden, reader xi wont launch, read pdfs, or download pdfs online. When I double click the program shortcut (or pdf I want to open) the mouse makes the "loading" animation....but nothing happens. No error message, just refuses to work. Re-installing temporarily fixed the problem. However, the next time i turn on my machine the problem returns! I'm at the point where I have to reinstall adobe everytime I turn on the computer .
Any advice would be welcome.

You can try using Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement

Photoshop CS6 won't launch and when it does it's really slow...help?

So my copy of Photoshop CS6 sometimes won't launch and when it does manage to launch fully, it's really slow. I mean ridiculously slow. The only times when I can get it to run even remotely quick is if I shut down my computer, and then restart it and then start up Photoshop CS6 as the first program. Even then it slows down after a while. (And I only have a firefox browser open usually, never more than a couple of tabs at once, so it's not a bandwidth issue)

I also did just recently install the new update Adobe had for Photoshop, so that's up to date.
It's getting really frustrating! I have another program I'm using in the meantime (Paint tool Sai), but I'd really like to use Photoshop CS6.....

Make sure you updated the drivers from AMD's website, not Microsoft.
Make sure you are running the 64 bit version of Photoshop, not 32 bit.
Disable all third party plugins, and try disabling system utilities (we've seen font managers, antivirus, disk backup software, etc. cause slowdowns due to bugs in those utilities).
