Reader X and Departmental Code Printing Prompt

Hi,
We have recently installed Reader X to our client machines. We upgraded from 9.4.
Our problem we currently have relates to our Toshiba Copier and our Departmental Printing codes. The problem is that when a user selects our toshiba copier to print either in black and white or colour they are then prompted to input their departmental code, for costing purpouses.
In Reader 8 and 9 the deparmental prompt was bought to the front of the screen as the active window, the user puts in the correct code and printing continues. With Reader X the departmental prompt 'falls' behind the Reader X window and the user assumes the printing has failed. If we minimise Reader the prompt is present and also the prompt can be seen in the Taskbar.
Makes no difference if the file is open locally, from a server or from internet explorer.
These extra few steps is apparently annoying our users. I guess like every one they are not keen on change.
Is there a way to force this window to the front of the screen?
Below is what the users see. The prompt is behind the active window/s and can be seen in the taskbar as the next 'stacked' adobe icon. The image is from a Windows 7 machine. Both XP Pro and our Win 7 machines experience the same issue.
Thanks in advance.
Mick Hanna.

There's nothing you can do immediately as the z-ordering of system dialog boxes is not something the user has any control over, however the problem of print messages appearing behind the main window is a known issue, so I expect it'll be resolved in an upcoming patch. Can't give any timescales though.

  • Reader X and Windows 7 Printing Issue

We have upgraded are PC from windows xp to windows 7 64bit. When i try to print a PDF from the internet, sometimes it will print then, most of the time the PDF goes to non-responsive. I have to start the task manager and end the task, which closes the browser only thing i have found to work is if i do a resart of the PC.

    Good day,
Could you provide some additional details about both the file and your system's configuration?
What version of Adobe Reader X do you have installed? (Help > About Adobe Reader)
If you haven't updated to 10.0.3, please do so and see if the issue persists.
How was the PDF file you're searching created?  (File > Document Properties > What does the PDF Producer line say?)
Are you experiencing this with multiple files?
Have you installed SP1 for Windows 7?

  • I installed Adobe Reader X and i can't print PDF's without opening Reader first

Hi, i am using windows XP and i just installed Adobe Reader X onto a workstation within' my office. I use to have Adobe Reader 9 where i could just open a folder with my PDF's. For example, My Documents folder and right click on the PDF i want to print, without opening the file in Adobe Reader first and then clicking print. With Adobe Reader X, i can't do the right click option and print because nothing happens.
Is they an option in Adobe Reader X i need to turn on or off, to get the function of printing by right clicking on the PDF file without opening Reader X to print please ?

Is it happening all the times or happened just in the starting when you hadn't accepted EULA?
Is it still happening after accepting EULA?
Also, can you please tell what printer exactly are you using?

  • Print as Image changes between Adobe Reader ver7 and ver8+

    Hi,
We have customers that upgraded to Adobe Reader ver8+ and are now experiencing printing issues with our printer driver (operating system is Windows XP/Vista). When they use Adobe Reader ver8 and above to print their PDF files, with "Print as Image" option selected, the print output is smaller. It looks like the latest version of Adobe Reader output the images using a square DPI. Our printer (line matrix) does not handle square DPI (for example: printer resolution are 120x48, 120x72, 120x144, and 180x96).
Our printer driver just takes the output from the Microsoft print spooler and just encapsulate it with our printer language. We don't do any image manipulation. So, I would like to know was there a change in the way Adobe Reader version 8 and above create the output image? If so, is there a backward compatibility switch our driver can issue during the printing function?
I tried talking to Adobe Tech support (bronze support), but they only handle end user issues. Is there a tech support option that I can purchase that will allow me to get to the root of this driver compatibility issue? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Adobe doesn't apparently care. I get this problem all the time on our work network. There's a lot of questions in this forum and elsewhere on the internet.
The best answer I've seen is that there's something wrong with the PDF or you don't have the right font, or you did something wrong, or here try this ridiculously complicated workaround. I wish they would just fix their program!
Suggestions: go through all the "standard" things like updating printer drivers, printing the document as an image, updating Adobe (yeah, like "it works now" is a new feature in the latest version), etc. It's possible that could fix the problem. Otherwise, wait until Adobe releases a version of Reader that doesn't have this issue.

  • Print Dialog box and User Code on Reader 10

    Hello,
I recently updated to Adobe Reader 10 and when I go to print there is apparently a new adobe print dialog box. Which is ok except that it doesn't seem to get my user code info. When I print using the printer... button it prints fine. But if I push ok from the new adobe print dialog it causes an authentication error in the log on the printer. Is there anyway to put in my user code to adobe reader so I don't have to do this extra step? Can I turn off the new Adobe print dialog box and have it just go directly to the OS print dialog box like it used to?
    Thanks,
    dave

Can you tell us if you are using Windows of Mac OS? The Mac OS version of Reader has a Printer button on the bottom of the Print dialog box that brings up the standard printer dialog box.

I will attach a recent screen shot of a print window I opened and the extra code is above and below the window. There are matrix type blocks of code and then lines under the window. I get this all the time and it is getting worse.
Any help to get rid of it would be appreciated.

  • OSX, Acrobat Reader 5 and printing problems

Not sure this is in the right place (possibly should go to the Adobe Reader section) but help needed.
I have PDFs that look just fine on screen, but when they are printed out, the image is being reduced in size. It is as if there are some margins set someplace (although where, I have no idea) that are over-riding the PDF as it appears on screen. Is this behaviour typical with reader 5? Is there a setting somewhere that will cause the image to be reduced in size? If this is a bug, does anyone know if it is fixed in the Adobe reader range? Is anyone else experiencing this?
My set up is a Mac G4 sawtooth, with upgraded processor (1.5GHz) and new hard drive running 'out of the box' OSX 10.4.6 (Tiger) with Classic accessing the original OS9 installation on the original hard drive.
Range of Adobe products running in Classic (PS 5.5, AI 9.2, ID 1.2) from which some of the PDFs originate.
Old OS9 compatible printer (Epson SP1200) died recently, new printer (Epson SP1400) is only comaptible with OSX, except going via Laserwriter8.
Problem was present with old printer before it died as well, so OS/printer incompatibility is probably the issue.
Upgrading to CS3 is an option, but an expensive one, so wish to explore the Portable Document Format option first!

It cannot be a problem of the installation, because at least Windows 7
was a fresh install with nothing but Reader additionally installed.
By the way, what do you mean by "risky", I followed straight the
documentation from Adobe, where one is allowed to place function calls
    requiring a privileged context.
Have you any better idea where to place the call to save? It must be
called automatically, when the User closes the window, no additional
    interaction is possible.
One other thing is the call to exportXFAData, have you any idea why
there is a difference in behavior between reader version 7 / 10 and 9?
I wrote that in version 9 the user entered data is missing.

  • Read barcode or QR code inside image and save it in the file as metadata

Maybe someone can help me with this question...
All product photos contain a barcode or QR-code. It is visible inside the image.
The customer is looking for a way (a plug-in) that is able to find the code inside the image, read it and place the information found in a preselected Metadata field of the image it self.
Can anyone tell me if this already exists or is there anyone who can develop it? If yes, than please let me know
    Regards,
    Pieter

It would be absolutely incredibly useful to me as a volume photographer, and I suspect other photographers too.  Anybody who needs to link data to images or catalogue images would be the target market.
Let me outline a conversation that I had with a Lightroom developer at TTG recently, who unfortunately can't help me...
Original Conversation is at:  Lightroom 6 (Page 1) — General — Community @ The Turning Gate (post 17 onwards).
Automatically matching and syncing data to pictures is a huge software industry in its own right, believe me.
As a school photographer (though not solely), matching student IDs to their pictures makes everything so much easier and is vital to update student record databases with images of pupils.  But it's also very relevant to other sectors such as events and sports photographers.  Imagine if this data could be incorporated into TTG database search facility.... (Do we have a swoon smiley?)
Several pieces of commercial software is available, but most rely on the camera being permanently tethered to a laptop and using a barcode scanner to renames files as they come in.  This is a crap, restrictive system but is the one the vast majority of people use.  An example of this is the Australian Timestone software (http://timestonesoftware.com) which is very popular, but runs into the thousands of UK Pounds for a licence.
An American photographer called Mike Fulton wrote a piece of software called fotovelocity.net which does exactly what I prefer - to photograph the pupil with a barcode somewhere in the image that later gets read by the software and data appended to the metadata of the image.  This is slightly cheaper than Timestone, but still runs into the thousands and he not interested in dealing with anybody outside the US.
If Lightroom can read and guess faces to add naming data, then it must surely be an easy upgrade to read an easily scannable QR code?
    and ...
Has to be relevant to more than just me, surely?
Imagine all the events / dance meets / clubs / nurseries / schools / football photographers that would use this.  Admittedly, this is all volume 'hot-dog' photography and not the artistic side, but it puts a fairly nice roof over my head.
With schools I get a database beforehand, but for most events you don't need to know anything about the attendees to the event beforehand, as you just print out labels that have qr codes with sequenced numbers on them which the portrait subject (or their parents) then keep.  They then either visit a printing booth and type the code or take it home and type the code into their browsers and #kabam# up comes their images for purchase.  How they run it so that only the first image has the barcode visible yet all subsequent images retain the data from the first image until another barcode is detected I don't know.  I guess it must be that a numeric sequence must also be appended to the data from the barcode.
It's a wonderful system for photographers, which is why it costs megabucks.
I will admit though, that the commercial software tends to lab integrate as well, so there is more than just barcode reading.  Unfortunately, this ties you in to the system that your preferred lab uses, usually Timestone in the UK, and hence why people have to pay those silly license prices.
If you need a sample image with a QR code in just let me know.
Maybe fotoveolcity instructional videos may give you an impression of how this type of software flows and performs.

Acrobat on OSX does not use printer preset. Every single time I have to print I have to click printer and then print to load the preset and then click print again from the main dialog. I am printing to a Xerox that has the copier code in the preset so if I don't do this it will not print. This has been broken for in every version I have tried. This extra clicks are taking years off my life. Did I remember to do the extra clicks? I don't know, I guess I will run down the hall and check. Please fix this.

What operating system are you running? I assume they had you install the latest BIOS. True? If it were mine, I would suggest forcing it to use integrated graphics (in the BIOS) to rule out a problem with the NVidia driver.

  • Storing multiple PeopleSoft Job Codes and Departments in OIM

    Hello,
We are trying to set up the PeopleSoft ER connector for OIM but it seems that OIM is not able to properly receive all the data that PeopleSoft sends it. In PeopleSoft, a lot of people have multiple Job Codes and Departments. When PeopleSoft sends WORKFORCE_SYNC messages, OIM receives all of them, but discards everything but the last Job Code and Department it receives. This behavior is not surprising since OIM only has a single field for the Job Code and a single field for the Department. We would like to store all Job Codes and Departments, but are not really sure how to address this issue.
Has any of you encountered this problem and solved it?

  • Print progress bar slow in Reader 8 and 9

We have several users who recently began having issues with printing to our Xerox network printers with Reader 8. This is happening with even one-page documents... the print dialog box will appear fine, but after clicking print, it sits at the progress bar and the program seems to hang for a minute + until it's done. Some of the things I've tried include:
    -rebooted printer
    -ran all windows updates
    -upgraded to adobe 9
-tried several different print drivers (pcl, ps and global)
-tried all suggestions from knowledge base article:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=333091&sliceId=1
-toggled all options in advanced print options > font resource policy
-tested on several different machines, same issue
-tested with different printers, same issue
On one machine, I uninstalled Reader 8 and tried version 7, which seemed to work much better.
I was told this is just a bug related to an update in the newer versions that may be conflicting with our Xerox printer drivers.
I'm not sure if I want to revert everyone back to version 7, so if anyone has any other suggestions... it would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

Can you post screen shots of the signature status from Reader 8 and Reader 9 so I can have a clear understanding of what you are experiencing?

    Can anyone help me?

    I have the same problem.
It is not a matter of 'error message' nor does it have anything to do with the link provided. That link is all about scanning initiatives from the Mac. The question here is about doing the scanning initiative from the scanner control panel. That is called 'Scan to computer'.
Somehow the Mac has to be put in a receiving mode for that (makes sense). HP only provides the neccessary info for Windows, because 'This step is not necessary for Mac operating systems'. See http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/learnUseDisp lay/?sp4ts.oid=5304875&spf_p.tpst=psiContentDisplay&spf_p.prp_psiContentDisplay= wsrp-navigationalState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c03767419-7%257CdocLocale%253Den_US&ja vax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vi gnette.cachetoken
Seems the Mac is in receiving mode by default. But that is not the case. Because the printer says it sees no available computers.
So how can the Mac be put in receiving mode manually ? Or what should happen to make it in receiving mode by default ?
