Reader X " display PDF in browser" is checked but greyed out

Hello
   I have a user who wanted to print double sided by default when opening a PDF on a web page. I found that by downloading the PDF, not printing from a browser, the user can print double- sided. But when I go in preferences the option to uncheck " display PDF in Browser" is greyed out? I'm tried running reader as admin, logging out and logging in as admin, restarting the PC, running all updates. I was going to edit the registry next but wanted to see if anyone had been having this problem? THee is no Acrobat on this Dell laptop, only Reader X. It is a Windows 7 PC, fairly new. Any help would be appreciated.

Please update to the latest version of Adobe Reader i.e. 10.1.2 and enable the double sided printing as in the below figure:
Hope this helps.

    Hi
    Please Check the Below Registry Entry :
    Lock Path
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\(product name)\(version)\FeatureLockdown
    10.0 and later: The application checks the key corresponding to the "blessed" application that is named in the hard-coded key name at HKCR\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe. For example, if the value is "C:\Program Files\Acrobat 10\Adobe Acrobat.exe, then Acrobat 10 checks HKCU\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\10.0\Originals\bBrowserIntegration.
    11.0: deprecated.
    NOTE
    : HKLM\bBrowserIntegration = 0 locks in whatever is already set in HKCU, so set both HKLM and HKCU.

  • 'Display PDF in browser' whats the default?

    Can anyone tell me definitively what the current default setting has been for whether Preferences/Internet Options/'Display PDF in browser' is checked or unchecked?
    I'm curious to know as well if it has changed with 8, 9, and 10?

    For all three the default is "checked".

  • Display PDF in Browser Option

    I am able to open a PDF file from a particular protected Website. I can fill in the required info, but when I attempt to Save/File it back to the site, the following pops up: "For security reasons your return could not be saved. Please ensure that the 'Display PDF in Browser' option is selected under the Edit-Preferences-Internet Settings in Adobe Reader."
    Adobe Reader XI, Internet Explorer 10 & Windows 7 are loaded on my PC.
    I cannot trace 'Display PDF in Browser' under settings, but using Tools>Manage Add-ons>Toolbars and Extensions>Show>All Add-ons, I can see that 'Open PDFs in the Browser' is Enabled.
    I also used the Registry Editor: Adobe>Reader>exe to confirm the Name, Type & Data in the string value: (ab), REG_SZ, C:\Program Files\(x86)\Adobe\Reader11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe
    No help is forthcoming from the Website, despite me logging a call to their service centre
    Does the problem lie at my end, or the Website?

    Hi Ben,
    I manually added the registry setting but it made no difference.
    I uninstalled 10.1.4 and reinstalled 10.1.3 and with 10.1.3 I am able to view a PDF in IE when launched from the command line.
    I re-downloaded and reinstalled 10.1.4 and retried and now I can view a PDF in IE when launched from the command line.
    Strange.

  • Why did auto update stop working - check box greyed out!

    I suddenly realized it had been months since I had seen an update at home, but was getting them regularly on my office machine. Checking help about I found I was running 3.0.6, I tried to click the check for updates and it was greyed out. Checking options/advanced/updates I found the box was checked but greyed out.
    I had turned off checking for updates in my wife's account as she has no privilege and is not computer literate. I run my account without privileges but provide admin password when requested.
    My solution obviously was to download the current version (3.6.11) and no longer are any boxes greyed out.
    Question is - have I set up Netscape in a way that will result in the problem reoccurring?

    None taken. Firefox is built off what used to be the Netscape browser; common parentage.
    You might need to login to an admin account to update Firefox with Win7, but that's purely conjecture. 3.0.6 is so old that I wouldn't worry about it anymore; see if 3.6.11 updates automatically or from the Check for Updates menu item once 3.6.12 is released.

  • Safari won't display pdf in browser and I do not have adobe reader or ply ins

    I've been checking the posts and all the discussions/questions and answers but the only thing I have been able to find about problems displaying pdfs in browser have to do with adobe plug-ins. I never had adobe reader and checked in /library/internet plug ins and never found those plug ins. I then downloaded and installed adobe reader X and got rid of the plug ins in the library and that still has not solved the problem. Whenever I click on a link for a pdf it just automatically downloads the pdf. I just want to view the pdfs in the browser.
    Thanks for the help

    Hi,
    You probably won't have to reinstall Safari. Two things you can try. If you open Adobe Reader and go into the 'Internet' section of its preferences, you should be able to disable the browser plug-in. Some times that alone isn't enough, in which case, browse to HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ and move the Adobe plugin out of the folder. Restart Safari for the changes to take effect.

  • Adobe Reader 9.1  Disable Display PDF in browser

    Is there a registry setting I tweek to uncheck the box for Display PDF In Browser?  The only ones I could find grayed out the box but it didn't un check the box.

    I'm just confirming what anhnguyen7902 posted.
    This was tested against Acrobat Reader 9.3.1. I exported all of the registry keys from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\ with the "Display PDF in browser" setting enabled and disabled. Below are the only relevant differences when changing this setting from within Acrobat Reader.
    With the setting enabled, keys under [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals] are...
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals]
    "bHostBasedCM"=dword:00000001
    "iPSLevel"=dword:00000000
    "sProofingSpace"=hex:55,2e,53,2e,20,57,65,62,20,43,6f,61,74,65,64,20,28,53,57,4f,50,29,20, 76,32,00
    "bDisplayedSplash"=dword:00000001
    With this setting DISABLED, keys under [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals] are...
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals]
    "bHostBasedCM"=dword:00000001
    "iPSLevel"=dword:00000000
    "sProofingSpace"=hex:55,2e,53,2e,20,57,65,62,20,43,6f,61,74,65,64,20,28,53,57,4f,50,29,20, 76,32,00
    "bDisplayedSplash"=dword:00000001
    "bBrowserIntegration"=dword:00000000
    The difference being the bBrowserIntegration key being present and set to dword:00000000 when this option is DISABLED, but the key being completely removed when the setting is ENABLED.
    While writing this post, I decided to test it against Acrobat Reader v4.2.1. The results were the same.
    Hope this helps.

  • Should Display PDF in Browser be able to be checked & unchecked in Preferences

    I no longer can download Safari documents, like credit card statements,  as PDF files. I went into Preferences/Internet and found that  the "Display PDF in Browser" is not an option that can be check or unchecked.  Is that the problem?

    "Display PDF in Browser" is greyed out in Adobe Reader 10.1.2. This is by design.
    Also, There are known compatibility issues between Safari and Adobe Reader. Please see
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/908/cpsid_90885.html
    the page also includes link to an plug-in on Adobe Labs that is under development.
    You can try downloading the pdf on your computer and then open it with Adobe Reader desktop application

  • Adobe Reader X - Disable "Display PDF in Browser" via Registry

    I'm trying to configure my organization's Windows workstations so that web-based PDF files open in Adobe Reader rather than in internet browsers. I have been able to configure Adobe Reader 9 installations to open web-based PDF files in Reader rather than internet browsers by using the following registry setting:
    Hive
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Key path
    Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals
    Value name
    bBrowserIntegration
    Value type
    REG_DWORD
    Value data
    0x0 (0)
    My problem lies with Adobe Reader X: I used the following settings in attempting to prevent Adobe Reader X installations from opening web-based PDFs in internet browsers:
    Hive
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Key path
    Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\Originals
    Value name
    bBrowserIntegration
    Value type
    REG_DWORD
    Value data
    0x0 (0)
    Hive
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Key path
    Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\Originals
    Value name
    bAllowByteRangeRequests
    Value type
    REG_DWORD
    Value data
    0x0 (0)
    Hive
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Key path
    Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\AVGeneral
    Value name
    bBrowserDisplayInReadMode
    Value type
    REG_DWORD
    Value data
    0x0 (0)
    I've only had partial success, though. Internet Explorer respects the registry settings and opens web-based PDFs in Reader X. Firefox 14.0.1, though, ignores the registry settings and opens web-based PDFs in Firefox.
    Is there a different registry setting I should be using so that Firefox sees "Display PDF in Browser" unchecked and allows web-based PDFs to be opened in Reader X? Is there another method I should be following for deploying this setting to Adobe Reader X clients?

    Hi,
    We'll, you've educated yourself well. Unfortunately, Acrobat products can't control what browsers do so uniform behavior is not possible.  The setting is Adobe's best attempt and forcing some consistency.
    The ReadMode setting only controls what happens in the UI after the PDF is open.

  • I enable Display PDF in browser but still opens in Reader

    Our current client PC's are Windows XP 32-bit, IE 7, using Adobe X v.10.1.2. We have an application that opens PDF files. We have the parameter "Display PDF in browser" enabled and it opens in the browser as it should.
    However, new PC's are built with Windows 7 63-bit, IE 8, using Adobe X v.10.1.2. Using the same application with the parameter "Display PDF in browser" enabled, it always asks if you want to open in Reader or save the file. That shouldn't happen. It does this whether the paramter is enabled or disabled, it also does this using 32bit IE 8 or 64bit.
    Is this a Adobe bug, Win 7 bug, or how can we make it open in the browser? Using another browser is not an option. IE is the company standard.
    Thanks

    Does it work correctly on "normal" web pages, e.g. the PDF links near the bottom of http://forums.adobe.com/community/adobe_reader_forums ?
    In a 32-bit browser, the PDFs should open inside the browser.
    With a 64-bit browser, the PDFs will open in an external Adobe Reader window.

  • Adobe Reader XI enterprise deploy-disable display PDF in browser?

    There appears to be conflicting information about Adobe Reader XI and how to pre-configure the "disable display pdf in browser".
    The Enterprise Administration Kit/Guide says you can do this via the MSI Property:
    DISABLE_BROWSER_INTEGRATION = YES
    However, acrobat help, indicates you can ONLY do this manually via individual browser add-ons.
    I have the redestributable version from Adobe and I used the Enterprise Guide to make the AIP and used the Customization Wizard to create the package and am using the properties line when the msi is installed to disable the display
    so which one is right?

    I am out of the office until 1/22/13.
