Reader x does not install the pdf ifilter on xp

Is this an oversight or is there now a separate install?

PDF IFilter 6.0 is from 2004, according to their download page.
Adobe has really left us up the creek without a paddle here.  They stopped posting the IFIlter as a separate download when they started bundling it in with Reader (except for the 64-bit version of IFilter 9 that is listed on the IFilter page above), and the installer for Reader X not only doesn't include the IFilter, but it actually removes whatever IFilter you've got installed.  So, you can't, for example, install Reader 9.4 to get the IFilter from it, and then install Reader X over top of it to have a more modern/secure version of Reader, because your IFilter will disappear.  You are stuck choosing between Reader 9.4 with a somewhat modern IFilter and probably poor security, or Reader X with no IFilter (or the last IFilter to have its own installer, version 6.0, which is 6 years old).
Dear Adobe, this is a real mess that needs to be fixed.  How many people out there have no idea that their PDF files are no longer searchable because Reader X removed their IFilter?  At least create an installer for IFilter v9.4 so people can use a modern IFilter in combination with Reader X, instead of being forced to use Reader 9.4.  There are a lot of posts in this forum about the missing IFilter, and I don't see a single reply from Adobe.

  • My iTunes installation via Windows 7 does not install the Apple Mobile Device Support file

I have followed several suggestions to resolve the problem caused because of my update of iTunes does not install the Apple Mobile Device Support folder, thus making it impossible for me to sync my iPhone 4S to my desktop version of iTunes. I have tried to install the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi file and it almost completes the installation before "rolling back" the entire process and giving me a message that there was a problem with the installation. Has anyone been able to solve this problem. I use Windows 7. I have seem some :"solutions" that seem to work for some people, but not for me, and evidently not for many others? Finally, would it matter if I installed Safari on my desktop and tried to install iTunes using Safari?

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Acrobat X does not install the Adobe PDF printer

When I try to install the Acrobat X on a Vista SP2 machine, the installation completed successfully but it does not create the Adobe PDF icon in the printers section.
This was not a problem earlier, but there were some microsoft patches and GPO updates which happened which may be causing this issue. I am not sure what change has caused this problem.
Any ideas on where to start the investigation would help.

you need to update to 8.1

  • Reader 11 does not recognize the default MAPI application Outlook 2013

I am having repeatable issues with Reader not being ablet to pop open an email from the Send File command in the File Menu.
All of the other applications such as QuickBooks and Word seem to open an email window and prepopulate it with the attachment as expected.
    Here is the screen cap:
Note that Outlook is open and that it still does not recognize.
I can get the webmail interface to work with the Office2013/Office365 combo, but it only dumps a blank email with the attachment in your Drafts folder.
This problem has been shown to exist on both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 7 and both 32 and 64 bit versions of Outlook 2013.
This is a growing issue amongst my Office365 client base, which is a growing client base. Any help would be considered a blessing!

Ok sorry I've taken so long to respond.  The reply button wouldn't pop up for me to reply!
There was never a dialog box asking for me to select the program from installed programs when I open the pdf from outlook express.  But when I opened a pdf from my desktop it asked that question and I had it "always use this program to open this type of file." So I assumed that it was would work when opening from outlook express.  But it doesn't.
I've tried unclicking the protected mode button under the preferences general section.  And finally I'm not sure how to post screenshots of the attachment thumbnail and dialog.  I'm looking all over my keyboard for a button to push I don't have a clue as to what to do!  I do have a print Scr button but when I click on it nothing happens.  I've tried holding down the shift key and the button and the alt key and print scr button but nothing happens.
Could it be that somehow it's not recognizing ARCO.EXCH.DOCUMENT as that's what it thinks the type of document is?
I've already created an association for pdf files and it'll open them on my desktop, just not in outlook express.

  • Firefox Reader Update does not install older vulnerable version 10.1.13.16

This has been a problem for at least a month
In Firefox,  when checking to see if plugins are up-to-date, Reader attempts to correct the problem by bringing up the download page, etc.
but it has installed the new version but not removed the older older vulnerable version 10.1.13.16 !

What new version has it installed? If it is 11.x you can have both 10.x and 11.x installed, and can choose to uninstall. Is it definitely the Adobe download page which comes up, there have been reports of scams and I haven't heard of this (but don't use FireFox).

  • Adobe Reader XI does not reopen saved PDF files

Reader XI will not open PDF files saved. Opens PDF saved using earlier version of Reader. Using MAC.

    Good News and bad news.
The bad news is: The PDFs are irreparably damaged and you'll need to delete them.
The good news is: you can prevent this from happening again.
Download the ollfine Reader 11 installer here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Save the DMG - DO NOT mount it or run the installer yet.
    Quit Safari.
    Go to: Mac HD/Applications
Trash the Reader 11 app from there
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
    Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin file
    Trash the AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin file
    Empty the trash
Mount the DMG and run the Reader installer.
Open Safari and go to: Safari>Preferences
Under the Security Tab, make sure "Allow all other plugins" is checked.
You can now redownload the previously "damaged" PDFs and they will open.

  • SCCM Client Push Installation Wizard does not install the client. CCMSetup folder - not created

    Hello,
I have tried running the Client Push wizard for a single computer or a pilot collection of 8 computers, the result is always
the same - no SCCM client is installed on any computer.
The computers are running 32-bit Windows XP SP2.
    The Windows firewall is disabled.
The client push installation account is setup and have domain admin and local admin privileges. Client Push automatic method
    is not enabled.
The domain is AD WIndows 2000.
The SCCM server is running Windows 2003 R2 SP2 64bit Standard.
The AD schema has been extended.
MP, and SLP are installed and published. (MP is published in DNS as well.)
    FSP is installed.
MP, SLP and FSP are running on the same server.
SQL 2005 server is running locally.
System management container is created and all rights and permissions delegated.
With the Push installation account I can access C$ share on the client computer from the SCCM server.
RPC, Remote registry, WMI services are running on the client machines.
All prerequisites are installed from the client folder on SCCM server- latest BITS 2.5, Windows installer 3.1 and MSXML6.
All computers are in the same IP subnet which is listed in the boundaries.
Yet, the client is not being installed.
No CCMSetup folder is created on the client machines in Windows\System32 folder, so it is really difficult to troubleshoot
what the is the issue. I do not see anything helpful in the ccm.log on the server.
I have tried running the CCMSetup.exe manually on one of the workstations and that was successful and reported back to the
    SCCM server / console.
What else I should check / try? I really want to push agents via the wizard.
    Thank you,
    Peter

    Hi Wally,
    I have changed 2 things:
    1. Enabed automatic push installation (so I am not usign the wizard any more)
    2. Changed the IP subnet to IP ranges in the site boundairies.
After runnignt the discovery, I was able to see some activities in the ccm.log. A ccmsetup folder is now created but the agent is still not instaleld. Here is the ccmsetup.log

  • I can not use the Acrobat DC Cloud. How do I get an Acrobat PDF Reader that does not use the Cloud?

The subject pretty much says it all.
I can not save sensitive corporate files on your Cloud.
Even for non-sensitive PDFs, I do not always have access to the cloud when I need to view or work with a PDF.
I need a non-cloud version of Acrobat Reader.
When Reader DC installed onto my system it must have blown away Reader XI.
After I uninstalled Reader DC, now I can't open/read PDFs anymore.
Also, I can't find a copy of Adobe Acrobat to install that isn't cloud dependent.
This is a problem for me.
Besides all that, NOW I get error messages every time I try to re-install Reader DC.
    See below.
So, today at work, I can no longer open PDFs.
    Thanks? NOT!
    HELP!

Here, I finally have a solution.
    Gotta love Google.
More helpful than Adobe so far.
Note: Clicking on the link below will immediately open the download dialogue box.
    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.1/en_US/AdbeRdr1011_en_US.exe
I used this download to install, and the Installer was flawless.
Thanks everyone who contributed ideas and potential solutions.

  • Reader DC does not install (blank Adobe Download Manager)

I have tried multiple times to install Reader on this Windows 7 laptop, with no luck. (edit: I finally got version 10 to install correctly, but neither 11 or DC will work).
    Things I have tried:
UAC is off, Antivirus is disabled, tried running the install program as Administrator (its an Admin account anyway). Cleaned out all the old versions, used the Reader uninstaller I found, used CCleaner to check for errors, ran SFC, etc. No trouble installing Flash, Air, or Shockwave all went fine, just Reader having the issues. This machine is Win 7 Home Premium, 64-bit
I can see the process is running, but it's just sitting there with nothing happening after 1/2 hour.
If I try to install DC version, it opens the "Adobe Download Manager" window, which is just a blank window, nothing happens.
I have tried downloading directly from the web page, the offline version (Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions  ) of both 11 and DC and still the same problem - the install IS running, but it's not doing anything.
    Any other suggestions?  Thanks!!

Hi, Is this resolved for you or do you still face issues? As suggested, (http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/) should get you going. Thanks.

  • The update to 26 does not install, the box just stays up, how do I fix it?

I keep getting reminders to update to 26, I click on the update, and the dialog box icon continues without installing anything. I have a MacBook Pro with a 2.4 chip, and am running Mac OS 10.7.5. I also can't get new Flash player installed, and assume it's because Firefox is not updated.

    Please try manually updating Firefox.<br>
To do so, please download to most recent version from [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ our website].
Do this fix the updating issue and the Flashplayer issue?

  • When I run the installation utility nothing happens. I can save the file to the desktop or run it directly within another browser but Firefox does not install--the wizard never even initiates.

Earlier this week Firefox 4.0 crashed. Unsure what happened I elected to reinstall. I downloaded a fresh copy of Firefox from the website and reinstalled. That was a disaster. Firefox was running about 1/20th the speed of Explorer.
Figuring I had some residual problem from the crash I performed a full uninstall, eliminating all personal data and customization, to again install. I have now downloaded the installation utility eight times and not one has worked. Once the program finishes extracting it closes. The installation wizard never launches. I have tried both saving to my local disk and running from within the browser and I get the same result.

Firefox is only a browser; it doesn't have the ability to install third party apps other than those specifically written for it like plugins and extensions.
So after you choose "Save file", click the "Downloads" button in the toolbar and then right click the downloaded file and choose "Open Containing Folder", or "Open File Location" to take you to the folder where it can be found. See screenshot for an example of what the Download button looks like.
From there, double click it to start the installation.
To update Firefox, click Help | Check For Updates in the version you're running right now. The upgrade will subsequently take place automatically.
N.B. If the file you downloaded didn't come from a bona fide source, always right click it and choose to scan it with your anti-virus app first before you run (double click) it. That way, you avoid installing malware which piggybacks onto another app.

  • When I try to click on a download link for a .pdf file Firefox does not recognize the MIME type and tries to download the file as "index.php"

When visiting a site I frequent I tried to download a linked .pdf file. Previously I've used Firefox 7.0.1 to download the link with no problem. Using Firefox 8 however I the browser does not recognize the .pdf link's mime type. Instead of recognizing the download link as a .pdf file Firefox 8 tries to download it as "index.php". Firefox 8 does this with .doc files and .txt files as well. When I downgrade to 7.0.1 again the problem disappears.

    Hi hakmacpace,
I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.
You could also try [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles?s=create+a+new+profile&r=2&e=es&as=s#w_creating-a-profile Creating a new profile].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Captivate 6.0 does not open linked PDF correctly

    Hi everyone
We have Captivate 6.0.0.199 and are creating a project that will be delivered OFFLINE (either as html or as exe).
Within the project there is a button that links to an external PDF file.
Result: When launching the published project, the PDF does not open.
    I have tested 2 attempts:
#1: I have entered the filename of the pdf just "naked" into the button action field ("zertifikat_de.pdf") leaving out any pathname. After publishing I have copied the pdf file into the same level as the other files (on my local harddrive).
Result: the locally started exe (or html) application does not open the pdf (nothig happens).
#2: I have used the fileselect-box to enter the file location of my pdf; so Capivate stores in the action box this:
    "C:\Users\ast\Documents\LBET\translation\43_Captivate\zertifikat_de.pdf"
When publishing Captivate telle me to copy the linked files into the publish folder.
Yes, I copy the pdf into the publish folder.
Result: The published application does open a pdf but THE WRONG ONE! It references to the original source file location where cptx and the original pdf is. When I delete the pdf there, the published application DOES NOT open a pdf.
It seems the published application expects my development filepath on the end user macnine. Thats strange.
We need to make this application run e.g. on CD or in any arbitrary folder.
How can I get Captivate to do this?
    Thx.
    Alex

If you're intending to eventually deliver this from "arbitrary folders" on a LAN or from a CD ROM, then you're also going to run into lots of issues with Flash Global Security preventing your links from working.
Read up a little on the issue here:
