Reader XI slipstreaming

As a rule, we roll out updates for 3rd party apps through Group Policy. I recently rolled out the latest Reader XI by slipstreaming the 11.0.01 and 11.0.02 .msp's to the original .msi. When the package is installed, Reader comes up showing that it is at the 11.0.02 level. However, when you look at the properties of AcroRd32.exe on the client machine, the file version is 11.0.0.379 and is dated 9/23/2012 instead of 11.0.2.0 dated 2/15/2013. What's more confusing is that the slipstreaming process creates a number of other folders in the installation that I'm working with, one of which is a "Program Files" folder, which contains the correct version of the AcroRd32.exe file.
Because the version shows up as 11.0.02 when viewing from within Reader, I assumed everything was OK. But we use something called "Nessus Vulnerability Scanner" to scan our network for various OS and software vulnerabilities, and that 's what caught this. So my question is, is the installed package actually at the 11.0.02 level, or is it really at the 11.0.00 level? Because I've always found the numbering convention somewhat confusing, I've always referred to the Acceptable AIP patch patterns for Windows deployments guidelines to create my install packages. But I've looked pretty extensively and I can't find the same reference for Reader XI yet. So I'm not really sure if maybe I created an "Unacceptable" package. Do these guidelines exist yet for Reader XI? One last note: I also use the Adobe Customization Wizard after slipstreaming to create a customized installation package. I've followed this process successfully going back to Reader 8, so it's not new to me. And I can't recall coming across a similar situation with the previous versions of Reader. Is there some nuance with Reader XI that I need to be aware of? Or is this just normal behaviour that we just haven't noticed before?

The scrollbar appears and works but unfortunately the dialog size is still too big therefore the print button ends up being hidden by the windows taskbar. Could you please make sure that the print dialog size is calculated against the work area (desktop size minus the taskbar, there's a win32 API to get that) rather than the whole desktop to fix the issue?
That would also fix another issue: when the taskbar is sized higher than usual whatever the resolution you have it could still end up covering the print buttons but if you calculate against the work area rather than the desktop area that issue would be fixed as well.
Please don't leave it unfixed because even if the requirements say 1024x768 if you have higher DPI settings or have a taskbar with a non-default size the print button could easily become unreacheable.

  • Slipstream 2.0  functionalities in SAP  NetWeaver 7.3  EHP 1

    Hi Experts,
i read about [slipstream 2.0|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOdlYJw7WYc]. I ask one of the developers for a demoversion,
but he told me, that SAP will inculde the funcionalities in SAP BPM. Some of it in NetWeaver 7.31 ( but he couldn't concretize).
The ramp up of 7.31 is planned in Q4 2011.
Does anybody know which are the functions that comes with NetWeaver 7.31?
Specially i'm interested in process monitoring / BAM, process analytic capabilities.
    Thanks
    Kai

    Hi Christian,
    many thanks for your answer.
Do you know whats SAPs definition of BAM, i know BAM as Business Activity Management.
But SAP writes it out as Business Activity Monitoring. I guess it's not the same.
    Did you heard more details?
    Thank you,
    Kai

  • Windows XP Professional 2002 (without SP2)

So I was reading some of the Boot Camp guidelines and I know it's required for XP to have SP2, but I'm wondering if it's safe to install it if it just says "Version 2002"?
I heard about something called "slipstreaming", but I'm not sure if that's entirely safe, anyone know? The posts where I read about slipstreaming are about 2 years old so I'm not sure if it applies with my late 08 macbook pro..
    Thanks!

    Hi Rizzice,
slipstreaming the SP2 into an existing XP is quite easy when you follow the procedure described here: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxpsp2slipstream.asp
Only downside of the slipstreaming process is, that you have to do it on a Windows PC running at least XP SP2 itself.
When you follow that procedure, the slipstreaming process is very safe.
    Hope it helps

  • Adobe Reader German 10.1.2 slipstream

We have a problem with the German Adobe Reader Slipstream.
    We have 1000 clients.
    Here's what we have done:
    - Msiexec / a AdbeRdr1010_de_DE.msi / p AdbeRdrUpd1011.msp
Then we had version 10.1.1 and you have distributed via GPO to all clients.
    Then we have today by
    First attempt
    -msiexec / a AdbeRdr1010_de_DE.msi / p AdbeRdrUpd1012.msp
The new MSI file is created.
When installing but now comes the following german error message:
"Eine Weitere Version dieses Produkts ist bereits installiert..."
    Second attempt:
I now uninstall the version of 10.1.1 and 10.1.2 install then try the following error message appears:
The 'adobearmhelper.exe' can not be installed bcause the file can not be found in cabinet file 'Data1.cab' ...
    Third attempt:
I make now an MSI from 10.1.2 thus:
    msiexec / ac: \ Adobe \ AdbeRdr1010_de_DE.msi to c: \ Adobe \ rollout
    and then
    msiexec / ac: \ Adobe \ rollout \ AdbeRdr1010_de_DE.msi / pc: \ Adobe \ AdbeRdrUpd1012.msp
will install the following error message:
Could not locate cabinet in stream file: Data1.cab
    I've read articles http://forums.adobe.com/message/4132470?tstart=0
I've already written the article in the German forum but nobody answered.

    This is not the problem.
    After I do this "msiexec /a AdbeRdr1010_de_DE.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd1011.msp"
I have the file "AdbeRdr1010_de_DE.msi" in AdbeRdr1011_de_DE.msi renamed and distributed via GPO.
Now I have the original "AdbeRdr1010_de_DE.msi" rename "AdbeRdr1011_de_DE.msi" and then run this:
    i. msiexec /a AdbeRdr1011_de_DE.msi
(When prompted for an install location enter an appropriate location on your local disk say C:\AIP)
    ii. msiexec / a C: \AIP\AdbeRdr1011_de_DE.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd1012.msp

  • Reader 10.1.1 slipstream patch to upgrade (MSP to MSI) fails

I have installed the 10.0.0 to Group Policy share and would like to slipstream the 10.1.1 QUAR to it. I have moved the MSP to the directory (E:Client App Share\AIP) which contains the MSI install and when I execute the this command from the comman line.
    E:\Client App Share\AIP>msiexec a\AdbeRdr1000_en_US.msi p\AdbeRdrUpd1011.msp
it opens a Windows Installer window for V4.5 and no slipstream patch to the MSI is completed. How do I determine what the probllem is? Thanks in advance for your help
    Steve

With Administrative Installation Points I've always found it best to remove the old version first with a script using [msiexec.exe /x {APPLICATION_GUID} ] before installing the new AIP.  You should read the documentation about 10.x AIP though.

  • Adobe Reader will not update from 11.0.0.6 to 11.0.0.7

I have tried installing the update to my Windows 8.1 machine, but it fails every time. When I right click and run as administrator from the download, it extracts, then pops up with:
"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."
From the Adobe ARM.log, there is an ERROR_SUCCESS that tells me it stayed at version 11.0.0.6.
From the AdobeSFX.log, there is a "Program finished with exit code:1642". (Which just tells me the same thing as the error pop up box.)
From the MSI Installation log there is this:

I am testing the update before doing an enterprise rollout to Win8 and Win7 machines. I have tried the standalone update on other computers (Win7 and Win8) and I cannot get it to update.
I downloaded from here:  Adobe - Adobe Reader Distribution Selecting Windows 8, English, and 11.0.0.7
    From Administrative Command Line:
    AdbeRdr11007_en_US.exe -nos_oC:\Users\$$$$$$$\Desktop\Reader -nos_ne
    msiexec /a C:\Users\$$$$$$$\Desktop\Reader\Acroread.msi        network location: \\$$$$$$$\apps\adobe\reader11_0_0_7\
    msiexec /a \\$$$$$$$\apps\adobe\reader11_0_0_7\AcroRead.msi /p C:\Users\$$$$$$$\Desktop\Reader\AdbeRdrUpd11007.msp
This is not working either - which is not surprising considering that the update itself will not run. I can only guess that somehow the 11.0.0.6 update was incorrect somehow, but I have been using the same process to update the machines for more than 5 update cycles, so I am not sure what might have changed.
The point is, I do not want to do a complete uninstall and clean install on all of the machines in the company. Can anyone give direction with this?

I disagree about corrupted install.  Every 11.0.6 pc in my enterprise also cannot upgrade to 11.0.7.  We make AIPs following the same process for each patch.   Something is not right with 11.0.7 MUI.  I can create the AIP for 11.0.7 but cannot get the GPO to upgrade previous installations.  I think something is seriously wrong with the 11.0.7 MUI msp
The upgrade cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade.
I am using the 11.0 MUI installer to create the AIP and then I patch the AIP with 11.0.7 MUI .msp file per normal practice like I always do.  I am able to sucessfully create the 11.0.7 AIP without errors but none of my 11.0.6 MUI clients will upgrade successfully and are left at 11.0.6.
Something is broken with the 11.0.7 MUI .msp file.
Like I said, we do this the same way each time depending on quarterly update or security update and it ALWAYS works fine.  This is well documented.  We are following the exact same steps and something is seriously wrong with the new 11.0.7 MUI .msp file.  It will not properly upgrade 11.0.6 MUI installations.
We are using the 11.0 MUI as the base for slipstreaming the new 11.0.7 MUI patch.
    STEPS:
    1. Download AdbeRdr11000_mui_std.zip and extract to temp directory.
    2. Run: msiexec /a c:\aip\temp\acroread.msi TARGETDIR="c:\aip\11.0.7"
    3. Copy the AdbeRdrUpd11007_MUI.msp patch to c:\aip\11.0.7\
    4. Run:  msiexec /a c:\aip\11.0.7\acroread.msi /p c:\aip\11.0.7\AdbeRdrUpd11007_MUI.msp
    5.  Choose c:\aip\11.0.7 as the installation folder
    6.  When completed Copy c:\aip\11.0.7 to \\servername\AIP\
    7.  Configure GPO to upgrade over the top of existing installation of previous GPO 11.0.6 MUI using the correct UNC folder
This has worked every time other than this 11.0.7 MUI msp file.  It will not upgrade 11.0.6 installations.

  • I have read various threads on installing Win XP on my iMac

    Hi All
I have read various threads on installing Win XP on my iMac, i have tried on 2 seperate ocations to install win XP Pro on the partition created by bootcamp but in each instance the install failed. I get to the part of the installation where you select the partition to install win xp and when i select that partition i get partition not recognised please click enter to go back and choose a different partition.
To get the install to accept the partition i need to reformat it, and after doing this when the computer reboots it says please choose any key to boot from cd but in doing so the install starts all over again, or if i don't press a key and let the installation continue as i would on a normal pc the computer just freezes and the installation fails.
The couple of times i have tried this i have ended up reinstalling my mac os again, i don't want to go through all this again so if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
    Cheers

If this is your issue, search these forums (all dates) for "Slipstreaming" to learn how to convert your CD plus a blank CD into a Win XP SP2 disk.
I tried slipstreaming following the instructions I found on this forum, with no luck. It didn't recognize it as any kind of Windows install disk.

  • Boot Camp Slipstream Says a Full Install is an Upgrade, Stalls Out?

I'm attempting to install XP on a 2.16 GHz C2D MBP with Snow Leopard. I have created a 20gb partition using the Boot Camp Assistant. I have created a slipstream CD-R from a combination of a XP SP1 disc (bought the first day XP was released!) and the FULL SP2 service pack as recommended. I followed instructions for the slipstream creation to the letter. Same for the CD.
The install starts up and I declare I want a full install and not a recovery. Then I receive an error notice telling me I have an upgrade disc and must use a FULL copy for the install. Without a way to eject the slipstreamed disc and put the full SP1 disc in, for verification, I am stuck. I see no mentions of this problem anywhere.
I have seen comments concerning similar issues suggest a problem in the disc creation. But I have done the process three times now, revealing all hidden files and ensuring the use of the same legacy burning software mentioned in the slipstream creation posts.
As Boot Camp still offers to download necessary files, a feature that apparently NEVER worked, I am interested to know if anyone can really help me. I live in China and see boot camped Macs everywhere. But they all have hacked copies of XP or 7 running. I want to use a legal copy. How?
I'm installing XP to keep access to great scanners unsupported on Mac and play older videogames.

If you've already done a search in these forums and couldn't find anything then your best bet would be a Yahoo/Google search, (or what ever is used over there.)
Unfortunately it sounds like it still didn't slipstream right, have you tried using it on a Windows machine and see it it works?
Another option is to download a non legal version ( if you can find a "clean" version) then just install your legal serial number. Or even a friends copy of a SP2 or SP3 version and use your serial number instead. From what i've read quite a few gave up and did the same.

  • How to apply Adobe Reader updates in correct sequence

I have read the update article listed below.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83709/attachments/Reader_Update_QuickKey9.x.pdf
I find it confusing. I currently have the latest MSI of Adobe Reader 9.4 installed view group policy. I want to apply the latest update of 9.4.1. It sounds like I just need to apply each .msp file in order.
I guess it will all be clear if this question can be answered.
Do the quarterly updates have anything other then all of the out of cycle patches in them?
If they are just all of the out of cycle patches put together, then I won't be missing anything by just installing the .msp files in order. I am asking this because it says not to install quarterly updates over an .msp update.
    Thanks,
    Justin

The document is confusing indeed. Here's what to do:
Since you already have Adobe Reader 9.4 installed (distributed via GPO), all you need to do is create an administrative installation point (AIP) for version 9.4.1 so you can deploy it to upgrade version 9.4.
    Here's an example:
    - Copy AdbeRdr940_en_US.msi (the 42MB MSI installation file) and AdbeRdrUpd941_all_incr.msp (the 3.24MB patch) to C:\Temp folder
    - Create a new subfolder under C:\Temp folder (let's call it AdbeRdr941)
    - Run this command:
    msiexec /a C:\Temp\AdbeRdr940_en_US.msi
    - When prompted, specify target drive C:\Temp\AdbeRdr941
    - When the above process completes, run the following command to slipstream version 9.4.1 into 9.4.0:
    msiexec /a C:\Temp\AdbeRdr941\AdbeRdr940_en_US.msi /p C:\Temp\AdbeRdrUpd941_all_incr.msp
Note: the above AdbeRdr940_en_US.msi in folder C:\Temp\AdbeRdr941 file size is about 3.8MB
    - When prompted, once again the target is C:\Temp\AdbeRdr941
When the process completes, copy C:\Temp\AdbeRdr941 folder to a shared network folder and create a new GPO to distribute the new version. Hope that helps.

  • Reader 11.0.03 Update?

We use System Center Update Publisher (SCUP) to deploy Adobe Reader updates.  We have several machines with Reader 11.0.02 that fail to install the update saying that it is the wrong version:
"Adobe Reader XI (11.0.01) - Update '{AC76BA86-7AD7-0000-2550-7A8C40011003}' could not be installed. Error code 1642."  The log shows 11.0.01, but these machines are actually 11.0.02.
I noticed a couple other threads that seemed to suggest that you must uninstall Reader 11.0.02 and 11.0.01 from client computers to then be able to install the 11.0.03 update.  I'm pretty sure that I misunderstood because security bulletin released by Adobe says "Adobe has released security updates for Adobe Reader and Acrobat XI (11.0.02) and earlier versions for Windows"
And really that would be totally ridiculous to have to uninstall previous Reader updates just to install a new update.
Also, our software update scans (through SCCM - imported into WSUS via SCUP) are showing that these Reader 11.0.02 machines don't need the 11.0.03 update.  Again, based on the bulletin, that doesn't seem right either.
    So my question is:
Am I going to have to deploy a separate script to our enterprise that uninstalls Reader 11.0.02 and 11.0.01 from client computers just so the 11.0.03 updates will install?
    -Or-
Are our computers with Reader 11.0.02 really OK without 11.0.03?
    Mike

I tried something new and it seemed to work for me this time.  So now, I think I have some more information that gets me closer to understanding the issue we are seeing.
Our packaging team has recently taken over the packaging of Adobe Reader and I noticed that they have a different AIPs for each version 11.0.x.   When I was testing, I previously uninstalled Reader, and reinstalled it from the 11.0.01 slip-streamed AIP that they created (not thinking that it would make a difference) before trying to install 11.0.02 and 11.0.03.
This time, I completely uninstalled Adobe Reader and reinstalled the base install (11.0.0) and then installed all the updates in order, and this time it worked as it should.
So... I believe the reason it failed was that I was trying to apply the update to a client that had a "slip-streamed" installation.  If the client started out with the base 11.0.0 installation to begin with, then I'm thinking we shouldn't encounter the issue.
I'm still a little currious as to why the updates won't actually update a computer with a slipstreamed Reader installation (assuming that is the issue).

  • Version mismatch after patch of Reader 10.0.0 to 10.0.1

I'm in the process of rolling out Adobe Reader 10.0.1 to roughly 100 computers via GPO.  I've created an AIP using AdbeRdr1000_en_US.msi then patched this with AdbeRdrUpd1001_Tier1.msp update.  When I ran the patch it definately notified me that it was upgrading the base installer file to version 10.0.1 so all appeared ok.
The package deploys just fine, however, when I check the version within adobe reader it displays that it is version 10.0.0 by default.  If I click on the version number, it then displays that it is version 10.0.1.434.  If I continue to click, it gives me the versions of other aspects of the program, and will display that the Core Version is 10.1.  However, if I check for updates it will find one.  All my machines are Windows 7, so the latest patch level is 10.0.1, which it's already supposed to be at.  If I look in Programs and Features it tells me Adobe Reader X is version 10.0.0.
A fresh install of version 10.0.0 shows it's versions to all be 10.0.0 (as expected), so it seems the patch did update something.   But do be sure, , what do I go by here?  Is this package 10.0.0 or 10.0.1?  Is it protected against the latest vulnerabilities?
Any information would be helpful here.
    Thanks in advance

You used the term "slipstream".  That usually means you used an Administrative Installation Point a.k.a AIP.  Your option to update/patch is pretty limited with recreating another AIP/slipstream to the latest version.
    1. This means you will need to uninstall the old AIP/slipstream first
    msiexec.exe /x {Application GUID}
    2. Reboot the machine preferably
    3. Install the new AIP/slipstream

  • Slipstream OS X Leopard Updates

Hi. I run OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro 13 Inch Unibody 2009. I would like to set up OS X Server on a second partition, and already have a copy of OS X Leopard Server, but not Snow Leopard. My install disc is the original version of 10.5 server, not a later patched version, but my mac requires 10.5.7 to boot, and will not boot off of this disc (it just freezes up at the Apple Logo.) I would like to do this without buying a copy of Snow Leopard Server, where 10.5 meets all my needs. Is there a way to slipstream OS X updates, as with Windows? This would be very helpful. Thanks In Advance!

    10.5.8 or later.

  • Slipstream Acrobat 9.2

I am doing a clean install of Acrobat 9.x Professional and would like to slipstream 9.2 into the original installer.
I have copied the contents of the installation CD (9.0 w/o patches I imagine) to my hard drive to C:\Acrobat9 and have the AcrobatUpd920_all_incr.msp file already to go...
What do I do next?  Thx!
PS: I tried this but it didn't work:
    msiexec /p AcrobatUpd920_all_incr.msp /a "C:\Acrobat9\AcroPro.msi" /qb!

    here is the solution...
This link: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/498/cpsid_49880.html  was what I needed.
    As was this one: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/507/cpsid_50757.html
    Here is the basic process:
Copy the contents of Acrobat 9 CD to a local folder.  This will be an administrative install point (you can move it later).  I copied to C:\Acrobat9
Download all the updates you need and place them in the C:\Acrobat9 folder:
To see which of the updates you actually need to download, check the first link: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/498/cpsid_49880.html
In my administrative share, I am choosing only to do "Quarterly" updates.  This will get my default install to 9.3.0, and leave me in a position to simply apply 9.4 whenever it comes out (assuming it is the  next Quarterly update).
All of the updates are most easily downloaded via a web browser at Adobe's publicly  accessible FTP servers.  You need these updates: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/9.x/
    AcroProStdUpd910_T1T2_incr.msp
    AcrobatUpd912_all_incr.msp
    AcrobatUpd920_all_incr.msp
    AcrobatUpd930_all_incr.msp
In the C:\Acrobat9 folder, open setup.ini in Notepad.  Apparently this is a "bootstrap" installation.
Add the following line under [Product] --> msi=AcroPro.msi -->PATCH=AcroProStdUpd910_T1T2_incr.msp;AcrobatUpd912_all_incr.msp;AcrobatUpd920_all_incr.msp ;AcrobatUpd930_all_incr.msp
    Save setup.ini
Run Setup.exe from within the C:\Acrobat9 folder.  That launches the install for Acrobat Pro 9.3.

  • Slipstream SharePoint 2010 and Project Server Installation

    Hello,
I have my current farm environment with the below configuration
SharePoint 2010 + Project Server which are on SP 2 + Brazil Language Pack
    2 WFE
    2 App
    1 SQL
We are planning to add more WFE and App server in the existing farm. As per my research I found that we can slipstream CU and language pack install.
Would like to know can I slipstream SP2010 + Project server with SP2 along with Brazil language pack in one single go. I did found the article http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c6f60e5e-4f07-4e92-a8de-a32924b00ce5/sharepoint-2010-and-project-server-2010-slipstream-install?forum=sharepointadminprevious
however in this case there was request to setup a new farm but I'm trying to add new server to the existing farm.
Can you please suggest the best approach that can be followed to save time to add the new server to the existing farm using slipstream.
    Thanks.

You can do the same per the old thread. Just install SharePoint server, cancel config wizard, install Project Server, cancel config wizard, install LPK, then start Config Wizard and join to farm.

  • Can I slipstream Acrobat Pro?

I want to slipstream Acrobat Pro 9.0 to 9.4.2?  Is it possible and if so what patches do I need and what is the process?
Thanks for any and all help!

    PFB the steps:
    1. Copy the Acrobat Pro 9.0 msi installer to your machine.
    2. Create a distribution point (a folder where the installer can install the uncompressed program files).
    3. Click Start, click Run, and then enter the following command:
    msiexec /a <path of Acrobat 9.0 msi>
    4. When you receive a prompt asking where to install the files, browse to the distribution point you created in step 2.
    5. Click OK. When the installer finishes, all files will be at the distribution point.
Also Acrobat 9.0 msi should be there at the distribution point.(This msi is used in step 7 below)
To add patches to the administrative installation:
    6. Copy the Acrobat msp(9.1.0 ,9.1.2 , 9.2.0 ,9.3.0, 9.3.2 ,9.3.3 ,9.4.0 , 9.4.2 patch on your machine.
    7. Click Start, then click Run, and then type CMD.
At the command prompt, type the following:
    msiexec /a <path of msi at distribution point> /p <path of Acrobat 9.1.0 msp>
after that apply patch ONE  BY ONE
    msiexec /a <path of msi at distribution point> /p <path of Acrobat 9.1.2 msp>
    msiexec /a <path of msi at distribution point> /p <path of Acrobat 9.2.0 msp>
    msiexec /a <path of msi at distribution point> /p <path of Acrobat 9.3.0 msp>
    msiexec /a <path of msi at distribution point> /p <path of Acrobat 9.3.3 msp>
    msiexec /a <path of msi at distribution point> /p <path of Acrobat 9.4.0msp>
    msiexec /a <path of msi at distribution point> /p <path of Acrobat 9.4.2msp>
After installation is successful you can copy this folder (distribution point) to any server and deploy it
    OR
manually also you can install Acrobat 9.4.2 by running the msi at the distribution point.
