Reader XI - View documents in PDF/A mode - document links not disabled

I am using Adobe Reader XI and I have the option PDF/A View Mode set as;
View documents in PDF/A mode: Only for PDF/A documents
My colleague has the same set up
We both see the message when opening the same pdf that the 'the file claims compliance with the PDF/A standard...'
When I open this PDF/A document the hyperlinks within the document still work for me
When my colleague opens the exact same document the links are all disabled - they are legible and you can hover to see the link, but the links will not work.
I believe that the PDF/A standard is being correctly applied to my colleague with the PDF/A view mode set as it is... but not for me.
Are there further PDF/A settings for viewing such content that could impact whether any links will work? Anything that could override the Reader preferences?
With thanks

Thanks for answering this one - so we would expect that Reader set to "View documents in PDF/A mode: Only for PDF/A documents" should not disable the links... so the question would then get flipped so that why does someone who has such a setting find that they cannot use the links?
is there any further setting in Reader which might use that setting but apply it to PDF/A-2, PDF/A-3 instead? I'm not sure I can see linking to external source mentioned in any PDF/A spec - although there is if the PDF tries to use data from a different (non PDF/A) source within the doc...
If there is no such setting within Reader then I'll haver to look at any other tech surrounding what is happening when a user opens a PDF/A... anything which could change how links are handled... been a bit of a fruitless task so far but if I find anything I'll note it here...

  • Just updated to Lion.  Didn't realize things like reading a Word document would not be supported.  How do I get these files back and how I do read them going forward?  When a PC user sends me a word document won't I be able to open it and read it?

Just updated to Lion today, 11/22/11.  I did not realize things likes reading a Word document would not be supported.  "You cannot open this because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."  How am I supposed to read and open Word documents from PC users?  Any insight is helpful, thanks!

You have Word 2004 which is PPC based. Lion is not able to execute PPC code. You have to upgrade. Or you can do as I do an open them in Pages, since I refuse to allow anything from Microsloth on my Mac.

  • Add new document link not working in upgraded sharepoint 2013?

    Hello there,
Upgraded SharePoint team sites from 2010 to 2013. add new document link not working for shared document in upgraded sharepoint 2013?. it is specially not working on machine where Office web apps set up with this sharePoint server and it
is working fine with environment  Office web apps not configured with Sharepoint.
Looking resoluion /suggestion, thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sushil

    Hi  Sushil,
According to your description, my understanding is that the add new document link was not working on machine where Office web apps set up with this SharePoint server after you upgraded SharePoint team sites
    from 2010 to 2013.
For your issue, it can be caused by integrating Office Web Apps with upgraded SharePoint Site.
Firstly please make sure claims-based authentication is used by the SharePoint web application that is used to create the new document. Only web applications that use claims-based authentication can open
files in Office Web Apps. To determine the authentication provider for a web application, follow these steps:
1.In SharePoint 2013 Central Administration, click Manage web applications.
2.Select the web application that you want to check, and click Authentication Providers on the ribbon.
The authentication provider must be displayed as Claims Based Authentication for Office Web Apps to work correctly with the web application. To resolve this issue, you can delete the web application and recreate
it using claims-based authentication, or you can change the authentication method of the web application.
Secondly, make sure the WOPI zones match on the SharePoint 2013 and the Office Web Apps Server farm.
To do this, run the following command on the SharePoint Server:
    Get-SPWopiZone
The result will be one of the following:.
    internal-https
    internal-http
    external-https
    external-http
Next, run the following command on the SharePoint Server.
    Get-SPWOPIBinding
In the output, look for WopiZone: zone. If the results from Get-SPWopiZone don’t match the zone that is returned by Get-SPWOPIBinding, run the Set-SPWOPIZone -Zone cmdlet on the SharePoint Server to change
the WOPI zone to match the result from Get-SPWOPIBinding.
If not work, you can try to disconnect SharePoint 2013 from Office Web Apps Server and re-configure Office Web Apps for SharePoint 2013.

  • PO Document (View Document) does not display Korean Characters

    Hi,
We have a situation here. In Production, the asian characters are not being displayed in PO Document
Navigation: Purchase Orders - > Inquire -> View Document
Surprisingly, a cloned environment of PROD displays the asian characters fine. Has anyone come across a similar issue?
This uses the XML Publisher template stylesheets. Both PROD and QA have the same style sheets. The template is setup with language as Korean.
It would be great if anyone can please guide me troubleshoot this issue and identify the cause.

    Thanks for your response.
I did check the fonts under $OA_JRE_TOP/jre/lib/fonts and $AF_JRE_TOP/jre/lib/fonts folders in both QA and PROD environments. They are identical and albany fonts do not exist under them. But Korean characters are visible in PDFs generated under QA but not in PROD.
Is there a profile option set to guide XMLP to a folder for fonts? Please let me know.
Also, the JDK upgrade happened a couple of weeks before and PROD is pointing to JDK 1.5 but QA is still pointing to JDK 1.4 (cloned from a copy week earlier from PROD upgrade).

  • I can view a completed PDF file, but I can not open it

I can view a completed PDF file in "view pane"  however when I open the saved file, it is blank.

Try if updating to the latest version 10.1.3 still does the same.
If it does, please tell me your display adapter, device driver version & date; see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/945765

  • Intra-pdf-document links not working

    Hello
I developed a pdf document in Acrobat 9 Pro Extended with links from a contents page to the subject pages in the publication.  I placed command 'buttons' on these pages to return to the Contents page.  Offline, these are prsent when viewed using Reader 9. Uploaded to my website, the command 'buttons' simply are not there - either visible or invisible, they have just gone.
Can you please tell me what went wrong and how do I fix it?
    David Guthrie

You need to confirm what PDF viewer is being used when viewing the documents online Firefox recently added a built-in viewer and it doesn't support forms at all, and buttons are a type of form field.

  • Why does Adobe Reader 9.5.0 open pdf created by Excel, but not with Reader X.

We have a number of pdf's that open 100% with Adobe Reader 9.5.0, but not with Reader X.
On Reader X, the message “A Number is out of range” is shown and the image is corrupted.
The image was created using “File SaveAs PDF” from Excel (Office 2007), with “Standard” optimization.
For interest, if the same “File SaveAs PDF”  from Excel (Office 2007) is used, but with “Minimum Size” optimization set, then the resulting pdf opens perfectly with both Reader 9 & X.
Distressing that a new version does not work where previous version did.

    HI
Sorry, my first time posting and I don’t seem to be able to attach the problem pdf to my posting.
Example of problem file attached. Opens in 9.5.0 but not X

  • Since installing Reader XI I have no .pdf file extension so can not open PDFs. How to fix?

    ce

For the record I fixed this problem by going into Reader and running the repair program. This brought up the .pdf extension in addition to the .pdfxml extension which was all I had before

  • .pdf from MS Publisher - links not working

    Hello!
I have converted a MS Publisher document to a .pdf document.  When I completed the conversion (using the .pdf menu bar option in Publisher), the .pdf should retain the hyperlinks.  However it doesn't.
The hyperlink is attached to a picture - does that have anything to do with it?
    Thanks!
    Jessica

First, do you have Acrobat installed?
    If so, which version?
    Second, what is your OS?
For any given OS there's only a limited choice of Acrobat versions that are compatible.
    (e.g., Acrobat 9 won't cut it in Windows 8)
Third, what version of MS Publisher is installed?
btw - depending upon what version of MS Publisher is in use the MS process to output to PDF may be available within Publisher.
Look at this Adobe web page:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/compatible-web-browsers-pdfmaker-applications.html
You will observe that while older versions of Acrobat PDFMaker could be used with older versions of Publisher this is not the case for newer versions.
Why? Anyone's guess. Business decisions made by Corporations are typically not something the Corporations bandy about with the general public.
Regardless -- IF you have Acrobat installed you have the Adobe PDF virtual printer installed.
The Adobe PDF virtual printer can be selected as the "printer" for any application that can do a "file-print" to paper.
By using the Adobe PDF printer you "print" to PDF -- neat that eh.
    Be well...

    Hi vijayk,

  • Word document links not converting to WebHelp

I have an Word 2007 document that contains hyperlinks to send
an email and to jump to another place in the same document. I
imported the document into my RoboHelp project and all looks fine.
But when I create the WebHelp the links do not work. This is my
first really using RoboHelp. I had previously did "Save As..html"
in Word and then used HTML Workshop to create chm files. The links
    in there work fine.

No, creating a chm does not work either. It seems whatever I
mark using "Hyperlink" in Word does not convert over to the
appropriate HTML tags. I looked at the html source and it basically
just has font info (underline, etc) - no link info.

  • Pages document "could not be read" bc. it "does not have a valid format"

The document in question was properly saved and Pages was not open when my computer hung as it was shutting down. MS Word would not quit or force-quit and I had to hard restart the computer. When I later tried to open this Pages document, which I had been working on before Word froze, Page would not open it and responded with the error message: "This document "document_name.pages" could not be read. This document does not have a valid format." When I looked at the document in question I noticed that its file size was 0KB. I have no idea why this happened, but I suppose it has to do with my computer not shutting down properly and perhaps with Word freezing. If I repair my drive permission, re-index it, anything, will it help? Just a note on the status of this machine: spotlight stopped working earlier this morning and I was waiting to finish this document before repairing disk permissions and trying to fix that issue with Spotlight.
In the meantime I have tried various fixes. First I tried to change the file ending to .zip, unpack it and open it. Then the same, but this time I tried to view package contents. It doesn't show up in the contextual menu as even having a package to show the contents of. The file is effectively empty, but I don't know where the contents went! The funny thing is that the MS Word doc was recovered automatically. Is it possible that Pages doesn't have an auto-recovery mechanism?
I need this file urgently, or at least the text in it. It is the bibliography of an important paper due tomorrow at 5 pm.Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, I have used a file-recovery program in the past. It is called "Stellar Phoenix" and it worked wonderfully to find a Word doc that I accidentally deleted. It can't find .pages document though. In order to do so, I would need to tell the program what the average file size is, as well as the header information as follows. "Header (in hexadecimal)" "At Offset (in decimal)". I have no idea what this means, but if I could insert it, perhaps it could find the lost data. Should I have it search for .pages, .zip, .xml? I'm at a loss, but I know that it doesn't recognize .pages. In the meantime, I sent a support email to them and will see what happens.
    Thank you for your help.
    David

    I can't respond before.
When the system say that your file size is 0KB, it means that nothing was saved. Only a file descripto exists.
So, there is nothing to recover.
Given the time the system crashed, you may have :
    (1) a simple descriptor with nothing written
    (2) a folder with every or only some of the required files.
In this case, Phoenix is useless : it's unable to revive a folder.
    (3) a flatfile (a compressed version of the folder named above). It's only this kind of file which Phoenix may revive.
With a bit of luck, Phoenix would be able to revive the index.xml file which was in the original folder created in the temporary folder.
    This file starts with :
    <?xml version="1.0"?><sl:document xmlns:sfa="http://developer.apple.com/namespaces/sfa"
    or
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <sl:document xmlns:sfa="http://developer.apple.com/namespaces/sfa"
The minimal size for a Pages index.xml file is : 520038 bytes.
If you retrieve the index.xml file, we may try to rebuild an usable package.
Ask the recovery tool to transfer the recovered file on an other media.
If the document embedded pictures, the index will give their path and their size which may be useful to recover them.

  • Saved keynote document could not be read. Error message says The document does not have a valid format.

Using Keynote '09 on an iMac OS 10.8.4. Two of my students saved a Keynote file then the next day when trying to open received an error message- The document "4b Molly.key" could not be read. The document does not have a valid format. The students are saving correctly. Any ideas how we can retrieve a working file? Why did this happen?

Just tagging on as I encounted this problem this morning.  I'm using Mavericks, on MBP (late 2013).
Have both Keynote 5 and 6 - tried to open the file in both, to no avail.   I have also tried the renaming of .key to .zip that seemed to work for others with previous OS, but does not fix now.  Also tried uploading to iCloud, renaming, redownloading - no fix there either.  I've tried to open on iPad and on a different user's iMac - again, get the same error.
It worked yesterday and the day before.  It is a large file; however, I realized that from last night to this morning the only different thing I did was that I inserted photos in the keynote deck by drag & drop verses Insert/Choose and wondering if this corrupted the file.
I'm going to hope a fix is out there somewhere and that I don't have to spend hours upon days upon weeks redoing this 98+ page deck.
    Any suggestions?

  • The document could not be read: the document does not have a valid format.

I created a 10MB document in Pages about a week ago. Around that time, I reopened the document and edited it with no problems. A week later, I've tried to open the document but Pages gives me the following error:
The document "[Document Name].pages" could not be read. The document does not have a valid format.
I created, edited, and saved this document in Pages, so I am confused as to why Pages would be unable to re-open the file, especially as I haven't done anything to it since it worked last. I was worried that my hard drive might have corrupted the file so I ran diagnostic tests but everything was fine. I was also worried that because the file is synced with my iDisk that iDisk corrupted the file while syncing it or something but I don't know what I could do to check this. Either way, it's an important file and I need to open it: I thought that by putting it on iDisk I would have a copy in case something happened to my computer but this seems not to have helped (and maybe hurt!).
Any file recovery tools or other ways that I can open this file?

No, I don’t have Pages ’08 installed, but did in the past—is this a current issue?
    Pages ’09 is registered.
I have tried dragging the file onto the app icon directly.
To recover at least the text, I did the “rename as zip, open index.xml” trick. Of course, in order to interpret that file, you do have to understand XML (thank god I do)… but if I hadn’t, man that would’ve been a major bummer.
