Readers for Playbook 2.0

What I am trying to find is a reader other than Adobe that will read ebooks as well as pdf files.  The reader will allow me to mark pages and thumbnail where I finish so that I can easily pick-up where I finished reading.  Adobe is difficult to get to pages.  You have to page after page after page.  You can't go to the page you finished without getting weary from thumbing pages.
Also is there a way to highlight areas in the reading area to help you to focus on important areas and also to tag where those highlights are?
Any help will be very helpful.

This app will read EPUBS (without DRM):

This app will download library ebooks (if you have a library card at a participating library):

  • Sayit App for Playbook doesn't work

I cannot get Sayit for the BB Playbook to work. The program states to allow permissions for mic but I don't have any settings to do so After numerous reinstalls (3 different playbooks) still doesn't work. The company doesn't respond to my emails so It leaves me with the impression they are a bogus outfit. Anyone else stuck with apps from BB App world for Playbook that don't work ? Be nice if someone could set up a thread that says which ones work and which don't. This would save time and money for people who pay for an app and then don;t get support ,.At $5.00 per app and maybe thousands of user who download it !!!

Apple doesn't vet or test apps. those apps meet certain requirements and they're in the app store. Look through there, you'll see plenty of 0 or 1 star apps.
There are millions of apps and Apple doesn't vet them.
the facebook app hasn't worked right in years, Apple doesn't care, it's up to Facebook to make their app work. Same applies to Charter
they will not make a developer make their app work well, they let 'survival of the fittest' rule...good apps get good ratings, bad apps get poor ratings, well rated apps rise to the top, poorly rated apps fall to the bottom.

  • Arabic language for PlayBook os 2

I'm from egypt and i use Arabic language and i heard that there are Arabic language for PlayBook but i can't git or fiend it
Please help me to install Arabic language for my PlayBook
    Thank you

    Dear Sir or Madam
I recently bought one of your products, the Blackberry Playbook. It is a great tablet and powerful. I speak English but my mother tongue is Arabic. Because I had a Blackberry phone and the Arabic language is fully supported in all blackberry phones so I thought that there will be no problem with the Playbook regarding Arabic language support.
However, unfortunately, my guess was wrong. The tablet does not support Arabic language. When using the bridge feature the Arabic letters are displayed unconnected and in the wrong direction (from the left to right instead from right to left).
This makes the Playbook useless for me in many situations, for example when presenting documents for conference.
I am writing to you to know if there is a fix for this or if you are updating the language support for the playbook in short coming time.
Please do not use the word soon, as this word lost its meaning when Google abused its use. The life of an electronic gadget is very short these days, so the full support should be available for the user to benefit from the gadget.
In addition, Blackberry phones are very popular in the Middle East and many people, which I know, said to me they will never buy the Playbook if there is no Arabic language support, (I discovered this after I bought the playbook).
If you are aiming high and looking to compete with the leading producer in the tablet market, then just look at how it is easy to change the interface language in the Apple iPad.

Downloading/Updating to BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0
If you purchase a new BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, the first time you set up the tablet you’ll automatically get updated to BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 during the initial setup process. For an overview of how the setup process on a new BlackBerry tablet works, check out our post on How to Set Up a BlackBerry PlayBook. (Make sure you come back to this post so you can learn more about the new BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 home screen when you are finished setting up your tablet!)
For those that already own a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, when BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 is released, you will receive a Software Update notification that appears on the status bar. When this appears, tap “Update” to start downloading the Software Update. You’ll need to restart the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet when the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 update is complete, so make sure you save any files you might be working on.
Tip: Whenever you are applying Software Updates or setting up a new BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, leave it plugged in so it has a sufficient charge. To learn more on how to check for a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet Software Upgrade manually, click here.

  • Adobe Reader for Playbook

Just another voice about the Adobe Reader for Playbook.
I plan on using Playbook for meetings where  I need to flip through large files rapidly and back and forth.
The version of Adobe Reader on my Playbook is very slow to load the pages, flipping is difficult and frequently ends up closing the App ,and it does not allow the rapid selection of a particular set of pages to return to without flipping through the 25 preceding pages -  not useful for the type of work I am doing.
Is there a newer version of the Reader for Playbook that will let me do what I need to do?
    Halafi

Agreed, Reader for PlayBook should have all the regular reader features.

Has anyone here or at Adobe seen this thread to consider if it is an AIR issue?
Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post in.

    Hi SR,
I wanted to let you know that while we typically don't handle Playbook issues on this forum (the RIM forum you linked to is the correct place for these discussions) I have forwarded this question along to the team to see if anyone has encountered this.  I'll post more info when I hear back.
    Thanks,

  • Where to find apps for Playbook only?

I do not own a Playbook yet, but likes te buy one. First I want to see which apps are available for the Playbook. It is hard to find apps in the http://appworld.blackberry.com because most of them are for BB-phones, not foor tablets.
Is there a way to filter apps only for Playbook?
I like Evernote, but it is not for Playbook available. ( http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/1700/?countrycode=NL )
Or is there an app-store for Playbook only? Where I, as an interested customer, can look around?
    A To-do-list app like MyTasks?  I can't find one.
    Thanks

  • Cannot build for PlayBook

I'm trying to install an AIR mobile (flex) application on BlackBerry Playbook.
I managed to publish many successful builds of my app for all Blackberry devices EXCEPT Playbook.
The application failed to installed with this following error message "failure 821 Application-requires-system :unrecognized system name "BlackBerry10".
I am using FlashBuilder 4.7 with AIR 3.1 SDK and I am using Adobe and Blackberry ANEs to build the app.
Is the AIR SDK I am using (3.1) is correct for Playbook ? It DOES work for all other BlackBerry device.. ? Any ideas what might cause this ?
    Thanks !

  • Free download Pdf/Doc/Excel Readers for Nokia 500

I look forward for the free download readers for documents in pdf/doc/excel. Please, post a links for these, in here. Thank you.

Your best bet is to look for such apps on the Nokia Store. There is an excellent alternative to the built-in QuickOffice (or Microsoft Office Suite) called Picsel Smart Office. It is not free, but is well worth a look.

  • How do you contact the people at App World (for PlayBook)...

Does anybody know who I need to talk to regarding App World (for the playbook). It really gripes me when you write a constructive review for an app, but the vender then removes it - surely, this should not be allowed (as it can lead to customers being mislead). I wrote the following review for the UK on-device GPS Map app, and guess what, it was removed!
Not as impressed as i thought it would be for the following reasons:1. Incomplete maps - I've lived in my house for over ten years, yet my housing estate doesn't show up on the map (I wonder if this is the case elsewhere???)!
    2. Map scale - When I'm out and about, and zoom into the map, it doesn't always rescale itself; rendering the map useless.
    3. GPS Location - Once the App finds your location, and you then move, it doesn't then replot your movement on the map; to re-establish your position, you have keep repressing the button - very poor!
    4. Finally, the App just keeps crashing! Your using it, then it just switches off.
Considering all the above, and the price of this App (£9.99!), I am really disapointed. Please fix the issues identified or refund asap.
    Cheers...

Possibly the best bet is simply discussing it here.  RIM tends to like such feedback to be filtered through the forum, I presume because allowing much direct contact would overwhelm them (these days, with negative feedback!).  It's also reasonable in that it gives other people here (users like you, and developers) a chance to comment, expand the discussion, correct misconceptions, and so on.  As I understand it, RIM tries to monitor these forums, and in the cases where they may not notice a particular concern, some of the long-time participants have back-channels to escalate serious concerns to their attention.  I'm pretty sure they watch the "big picture", and if enough people complain about something, I'm pretty sure they take notice and engage in internal discussions to decide what to do about it.  (My main problem with this whole process is that they almost never provide any external feedback to us, even to let us know they recognize certain problems.  For example, the PlayBook rapid charger quality problems... it's incontrovertibly a defect, but there's been no sign of any recognition of that on their part.)
That said, I sympathize with you.  I'm disgusted by that map vendor's products and behaviour, as I think they give the rest of us devs a bad name, not to mention "hogging" too much of the space in the Newest and Recently Updated lists, among other things.
I'll note one thing, however, though I don't like the idea I might actually be seen as defending them.  On the map quality topic, those maps are actually using the OpenStreetMap data, aren't they?  (Visit http://openstreetmap.org)  If so, the quality of the data isn't something that vendor has control over... OSM is basically just like Wikipedia, in that the content is almost entirely generated by volunteers, people like you and I, who have chosen to contribute.  (I've edited OSM for my own town, adding many missing roads, fixing spelling errors, etc.)
If that's true, then I think the vendor ought to have made that very clear to their customers.  I'm not too surprised they did not, however, since I believe they knew they couldn't charge people $10 for a poor quality app that was merely giving you access to map data that cost the vendor nothing to provide.
Have you tried contacting the vendor and demanding a refund?  It is possible for developers to request that RIM arrange a refund, as I understand it.

there are more free stuff for bb phone than playbook ...

Yes there are games and apps for the Playbook. However. Hardly anyone is developing apps for the Playbook anymore, though.
If they're not available now I doubt they'll ever be available.

  • Amazon support for Playbook....?

Any word on when a full version of Amazon's Kindle software will be available for Playbook?  I remember reading  quite a while back the Amazon was going to support the Playbook which I assumed meant a full featured version of Kindle software for Playbook.  Is this coming?  Is it going to come with the OS2.0 release?
It's the only thing standing in the way of the PB being the best tablet on the market in my estimation.

bestbuy.ca had an ad that showed kindle support. Tuesday will be a fun day to see what OS 2 is all about.
