Reading a book downloaded to iTunes

I should be able to figure this out but haven't been able to find the answer anywhere.
I am running an Intel iMAC using OS 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.3.1
I just downloaded a book from the iTunes store into the iTunes library on my computer.  I can't get it to open so I can read the book.  How do I do that?
NB.  I do not have an iPod, no iPad, and no iPhone.  Just an iMAC computer.

That's an iBook. Normally, iBooks can be viewed only on an iOS device, but in the case of this one, since it's free it apparently does not contain the copy protection usually placed on commercial iBooks. Any ePub reader should be able to open that book. Sigil-Editor may work, though it appears to be intended more for editing rather than viewing, or you can try an ePub reader such as Calibre (which opened the book for me):
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30657/calibre
The book file will be in your iTunes -> iTunes Music (Media) -> Books folder, which unless you've changed it will be in your user's Music folder.
Regards.

  • Seriously? Is there not any way to view DRM-protected books downloaded from iTunes on my MacBook Pro?  I cannot believe that there is no way around this?

Seriously?  Is there not any way to view and read DRM-protected books downloaded on iTunes on my MacBook Pro?  I cannot believe that there is not any way around this!  I seem to constantly get confounded by what seems to be the most amazingly unbelievable conundrums with Apple despite having been a champion of the company for years and years.  This relates to tethering on iPhone, external Apple hard drives only being usable with MacBook Air, and now this! If anyone is aware of a hack or way around this I would appreciate some guidance.  Thanks!

    Yes.

    There is not.

    Believe it.

Okay i looked them up and YES they are compatible with macs. if it's formatted for windows then no it will not show up on the mac, you need to repartition it on windows or try and see if you can pick it up in Disk Utility on osX. The following link is for this HD but talking about a mac PowerBook, it should be the same for you even if you are using the Intel macs. http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/other-hardware-peripherals/146258-iomega-portab le-hard-drive-not-mounting.html

  • Audio book download from iTunes where is this stored on yr iPad 2

Hi all, I am trying to find where my purchased audio book has been stored by my ipad2. I have successful  purchased an podcast from iTunes and easily found how to access this. I have retraced my steps via iTunes and it is telling me it's downloaded but it's hiding and it's driving me mad. As u have guessed  Christmas present, thank u

It should have downloaded into the Music app - when you have audiobooks on an iPad you will get an Audiobooks option under the More button at the bottom of the Music app.
Note that audiobooks are currently a one-time only download from the store (so they won't appear in the Purchased tab for re-downloading), so you may want to copy it to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases so that you can take a backup copy of it - it should copy over to the Books part of your iTunes library.

  • Audio book download from iTunes

I tried to download an audio book to my 2 week old, IPOD Classic....and it won't download and I get a message "The book was not copied to IPOD because it cannot be played on this IPOD.....I don't understand, are there different audiobooks for different IPODs?

I've had 2 updates to my iTunes software since I purchased my IPOD, seems like once a week there is an update. I'm not sure how to check the authorization, I was looking in my computer settings and didn't see any authorization option. Since this is a home computer, it is not in a network or anything like that. many thanks....for any assistance on the authorization setting location

  • Do audio books downloaded from itunes play on my ipod shuffle?

I bought a book for $17.95 and it says it downloaded it but it won't play. HELP!

If you cannot get your audio books to play on your 4th gen shuffle, hit play. While songs are playing hold down your VOICE OVER button until you hear names of songs and keep holding it. When you hear the title of your audio book or podcast you wish to hear release the VOICE OVER button. Hit PLAY one time. I spent 50+ minutes with apple support & they were finally able find out about the VOICE OVER button. Wish that was on the directions in the first place.

I have a MacBook Pro with Lion OS.

    Hey Raffiecat,
Thanks for the question. If your iPod is setup to manually manage content, you can add content from multiple libraries:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
When manually managing content, you can add content from multiple libraries to your iPod or iPad. Even when manually managing music, some content may be available from only one library at time. This includes all content on iPhone and video content on iPod and iPad.
You can also learn which content you can import to your new computer from your iPod:
iTunes: Transferring media from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or iPod

Or, if you still have access to the previous computer, you can transfer your iTunes Library:

To read a book on your computer, get the Kindle app for PC, and download the book you want from the Kindle Store.

Thank you for your reply Domingo.  Your suggestion worked as far as sending me a link to buy the book at iTunes.  But it did not allow me to download the book from my wife's account.  I did finally get an answer from Apple.  It took an entire day of emailing back and forth and the final answer was relatively easy once Apple finally decided to give up the solution.  Basically, you have to open ibooks and sign out.  Then you have to sign into ibooks using the book purchaser's Apple ID and password.  Then you can download the book onto your device.  Not too bad, huh?  It only took a whole day of Apple people sending me wrong instructions before they figured it out.  Geez.  What a disappointing experience.

  • TS1424 I purchased and downloaded a book in iBooks.  I read about 16 chapters.  The next time I opened the app to read the book, no words loaded on the pages.  It would go to the table of contents, but not to pages in chapters.  Any ideas?

Try to reset your phone, hold the home/sleep buttons until it reboots and the apple logo appears, don't release the buttons till apple logo appears.  If no luck there, Resync the book.  Or delete it and redownload it.  Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
