Reading a Tiff file in Photoshop CS5

OK, this might be a stupid question, but, here it goes.
How do you read a tiff file in Photoshop CS5 without it applying the alpha channel automatically ?
Everytime I read a tiff file that has a alpha channel Photoshop will apply the alpha automatically when it opens it. So when that happens I loose everything else on the image.
In CS2 Photoshop that never happened. It was up to me to apply the alpha from the alpha channel tab.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply.
When I render a tiff format image, I have a choice to either render with a alpha or not. I pick with alpha.
In CS2 Photoshop when I would open that tiff file, my image would come up and I would be able to see the whole image I rendered. The alpha would be in the channel tab where I would make active and apply to my image if I wanted to.
Now in CS5 when I open that same tiff file my image opens up with the alpha applied already. What I mean by applied is my background is gone or transparent. I have no other layer to turn on. Just my image with no background. Also in the channel tab I have no alpha I would have to create one from the original image.
I hope this explains my issue better, if not let me know I'll have to do some screen shot for you.

  • Cannot open a TIFF file with Photoshop CS5

I have enclosed the URL to a TIFF file. I am not able to open this file using Photoshop CS5, as it says unsupported file with this version. I didn't face this problem before.

    Thanks in advance.

Something must have corrupted someting in the file so newer versions of photoshop won't open it.
I was able to open it in photoshop 3, ImageReady and also paint and a couple of other non adobe image editors/viewers.
Though the transparency didn't seem to survive.
If have you some other image editors or viewers you might try those.

  • How do I resolve issues with missing layers when opening a Tiff file from Photoshop CS5.1?

I am downloading Tiff images from a partners website. After extracting the file and opening from Photoshop CS5.1 it's only displaying one of the original image layers. For example and image with two guys shaking hands in an office is only opening the clipped two guys and not showing the backgroud. The vendor says the files open fine on their end which leads me to believe its a download or photoshop issue. Any recommendations?

Thanks Curt... I don't think my explanation was clear. I'm downloading an image from an external webiste. The image downloads in a ZIP archive. After extracting from the Zip file, I go into photoshop and do file open. Only part of the image appears. It looks as if it's the top layer of a photoshop image but since I didn't build the image, I'm not certain it was built with multiple layers. Any ideas?

  • How can I process a Sony A7 RAW file into Photoshop CS5.

How can I process a Sony A7 RAW file into Photoshop CS5.  I tried the file DNG converter 8.3, but it did not work.  I was able to download it, but upon reading the memory chip from Photoshop CS5, it reads the jpg files fine, but not the RAW files.  I thought the DNG converter 8.3 was the right file, but apparently it is not.  Perhaps I need to do something in Photoshop CS5 to initiate it, or place it in a particular directory.. Please help.

First of all, you should have used the Adobe DNG Converter 8.6, not an old, obsolete version.  Always use the very latest version.  8.3 was simply the first ACR version to support your camera model, that's all.
Note that the DNG Converter works only on folders, not on individual raw files.  Put all your Sony raw files in a folder and run the Converter on that folder containing the raw files.
I have absolutely no clue as to what on Earth you mean by : "upon reading the memory chip from Photoshop CS5".
You also need to make sure that CS5 is fully updated.  You cannot rely on the highly and notoriously unreliable Adobe auto updater to tell whether you have the latest update installed or not.
I still have no idea what platform you are on, Mac or Windows. Please read the following for next time:
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster).
A screen shot could be very helpful too.

  • Is there a way to transfer Aperture files to Photoshop CS5 for editing?

Is there a way to transfer Aperture files to Photoshop CS5 for editing? I recently had a crash of CS5 Bridge. It seems to have caused a problem with Aperture. So, I reinstalled both CS5 and Aperture. Before installing CS5 I uploaded NEF (Nikon RAW) files to Aperture. Now I have reinstalled CS5 I want to use it to edit the same photos from Aperture, as I know more about editing in CS5 than Aperture. I tried to export to CS5 but, Aperture would not give me  that option. At least I could not find it.

You can set an external editor in the "Aperture Preferences -> Export " settings.
    Just set this to CS5.
The resullt of your external edit will create a new version of your image.

i've just upgraded to os 10.8.4 and now i can't open canon raw files in photoshop cs5 with camera raw plug in 6.7 which worked perfectly prior to the upgrade....anyone else encountered this issue?

Adobe's software is a mess in terms of the fact that it's sprayed all over the place and may not survive an OS upgrade.  Try reinstalling Photoshop CS5.

  • How do I open old tiff files in PS CS5

How do I open old tiff files in PS CS5?

Opening old files in new versions should never be a problem - unless they have originally been saved in other applications that don't follow the file format specifications. Or the files are corrupted.
The other way around can sometimes be tricky because of new features not present in the old version.

What do I need to process raw files in Photoshop CS5 for a Canon Rebel EOS t4i?

You would need ACR 7.x which is available in CS6.  Or as ertho said you can get the free DNG 7.3 converter and convert raw to a DNG.

  • Cannot open Nikon D4 NEF files in Photoshop CS5

Cannot open Nikon D4 NEF files in Photoshop CS5 and Camera Raw 6.6 … any suggestions?

    Thanks for your reply
.... strange? in the document you mention above the Nikon D4 is not mentioned as being newly supported and yet when I went to get info about this:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.html
It says that the D4 should be OK in Camera Raw 6.6.
I confess to being slightly confused.

  • I opened a high density .tiff file in photoshop but I cannot move the object

I opened a high density .tiff file in photoshop but I cannot move the object

Odds are the image is the same size as the document. You can either add canvas Image>Canvas Size... , use the crop tool and drag outwards to create more space, or reduce the size of the image ctrl-t or command-t then scale the image inward.

  • Large tiff file in Photoshop CS6

I have been working on a large tiff file in Photoshop CS 6 for several hours now and it has grown to over 3 GB.  I was able to save it and exit but when I tried to reopen it I got an error that said that the version of Photoshop that I was running would not recognize the file.  I downloaded CC2014 but it does not recognize it either.  Any suggestions?

If Photoshop does not recognize the file as being in a known image format you may want to search for a file recovery program to see if what you have can be processed at all.
    https://www.google.com/search?num=100&newwindow=1&safe=off&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS546US546&q=Tiff +Image+File+repair+software&oq…
Make a copy of the bad file before trying to repair it.

  • I cant load .ant file with photoshop CS5 Extended version

I need to load a .ant file into photoshop cs5 please tell me how. When I simply double click it doesn't

I just Googled .ant and it seems ANT is a file extension used by SFR Calculator (formerly CalcANT). ANT files are used when saving the calculation data. No relation to Photoshop files at all. I strongly suspect that c.pfaffenbichler caught your typo. So:
Place your .atn file on your desktop.
Open Photoshop and shift it if necessary so that you can also see the .atn file on your desktop.
Choose Windows > Action  You will see it as a panel.
Double click on the desktop's .atn. It should load to your Actions panel. If that doesn't do the job, choose Load Actions... from the Actions menu in its upper right corner.
