Reading ASP Session Variables in CF

We have an old ASP application that we would like to
integrate some CF Reporting reports into. There are a couple of
seession variables stored in ASP that I would like to get. Is there
a way/workaround to reading these variables into CF?

What about writing a gateway web service for passing session
info between
application server platforms (I've not tried this sort of
thing between CF
and ASP, but have done so CF->CF and it worked OK)? This
would be a bit
more foolproof than using form submissions or URLs.

Do NOT try to access the variables stored in a scope in a view controller project directly in the Model layer. It breaks the MVC paradigm.
For your use-case,
1) Create a View Object with a View Criteria that has a single bind variable.
2) Have a method in AMImpl that takes a single parameter and applies the View criteria for the View Object Instance in 1) by setting the value for the bind variable with the input parameter and execute the View Object and expose this method through client interface.
3) Use this method in ViewController project and Invoke the method.

Read asp-session or cookie

hi!
there's an asp-login page that holds a session with login information.
this asp page then calls my jsp page.
the problem is that i wanna access this login information stored in the asp-session from my jsp.
how can i archieve this?
is there a way to access to the asp-session or the cookie?

easiest way is to forward response from ASP (these ASP has to be invoked after the login form is submitted - post method) to JSP and get the required parameter
there are two possibilities
1) directly u get values of by request.getParameter("username")
0r
2) pass parameter and values from ASP page as myjsppage?username=test

Reading a session variable from a dynamic action

I have a select list on a page and a button next to the select list. The button calls a dynamic action which opens a page and sends the value in the select list. The page is not submitted. The DA has a step with a dummy PL/SQL block that submits the select list item. Then the page is called with the select list in the URL.
The value is not being sent. If I go into edit mode then run the page again then the correct value is sent.
When I look at session in Administration the select list is in session and set properly but is not sent unless the page is submitted.
Why if it is in session is it not being passed correctly? What does submitting the page do other than update session?

Unable to fetch session variables in my application page code behind

hi,
my env: 1 WFE server which hosts the central admin and my web appln, 1 sql server box
i am having a custom web part[ listviewbyquery web part] which populates the site collection/ sub site's document library contents . also it reads some query string values and pushes these values into session variables.
and i am having another application page in this application which reads this session variables and perform some operation in a custom sql db. But i am unable to read these session variables on page load of this application page.
am unable to debug also. so, would like to know is there any way i can see, what values are getting passed to this page and verify the session variables are accessed correctly.
or
is this by design, that its not possible to read session variables in the application page ?
if i am not having a visual studio env. to debug, how to test these session variable existence / to find the root cause of this issue.
note: already configured session state in IIS , http modules section. am using Page.Session["myvariable1"].tostring() to fetch the session variables.

i have found out myself. i have put page.response.write(mysessionvariables) in the code and deployed and tested in my env. and i was able to find out the reason and i have fixed it with proper validation check.

Session Variables Disappearing

This issue of disappearing session variables keeps coming up
again and again. I am reading about session variables work from

In order for session variables to
work, the visitor's browser must be set to accept cookies.
The pages for
the site all must be located within a single directory on the web
server.
Information stored in session
variables is site visitor specific. Different site visitors cannot
access each other's session variable information.
My question is this (about the highlighted). since my
application.cfm is located in the root directory and the session
variables are set from different directories under the root, will
this be the problem? Users login into the site from the members
directory and the sessions for that user are set after successful
login. when the user tries any other link from a different
directory the session disappears. Is this a recurring problem with
CFMX (6.1)or am I the only one experiencing this. I wish someone
from ADOBE should also respond to this.

The session variables are good for the entire application.
And the application is defined as any file at the same level or
beneath the application.cfm. If you are trying to access files that
do not fall under or at the same level as application.cfm then your
session variables would be invalid.

Reading Session Variables in Abstract Portal Component/ JSP Dynpage or Java

I have a web dynpro for Java component which passes parameters in a session and also navigates to a Java application.
Now when I try to read the session parameters in the Java application (JSPDynpage or Abstract Portal Component) I cannot retrieve the values.
Can someone throw light on how I can achieve this within a Java application.

Session variable causing ADODB.Field error '800a0bcd'

i have a page that before the session variable was added,

Now i have a session variable on the same page and if the

I use one of the list positions as the text for a link in two different spots. For now, lets only talk about the line:

Since I am generating these controls at pageLoad, I can't make them <asp:Linkbutton>s. And since they are anchor elements, I don't have access to an onCommand attribute or onservercommand attribute.
All I want to do is access the content from inside the specific link tags that I generate on link click and set it as a session variable. That's what I would like my UserProfile_Click function to do. I cant commandargs it in like i can with a linkbutton's
OnCommnad attribute, however.
My fear is that the onserverclick attribute resolves so something else on pageLoad normally and since I am generating it the way I am similar to the way a <asp:linkButton> resolves to a generated JavaScript.
Any help?

I am trying to filter a recordset based on a session

username which is their email address. This has been successful.
However when I want to filter the users table - tbl_users to
show their first name it doesn't work.

wrong.

there's no session object... that creates a method in the class separate from the main JSP method. So you need to either pass the session object in, or just pass the attribute value..

Alternate method to writing filter for recordset using session variable

I'm not sure if this can be done. I have a user page which I'd like to return database info based upon a userid entered on another page. So far, the session variable (userid) is captured on the user page however it is supposed to return the user's name rather than displaying the session variable.
My problem is this. Within dreamweaver, I am able to create recordsets however I cannot create a filter. The connection works. At this point, I am searching for a workaround where I can tie in the session variable to recordsets. I should make mention that whenever I update the sql statement using the recordset widget, my recordset disappears. ? At any rate, heres a sample of the code sans connection strings, etc.

Sounds like a possible problem with your installation. You may need to try reinstalling DW. How are you "inserting" this recordset and when does the error occur?

The select statement you quoted is obviously not complete. If you are refering to the select in your OP:

I see nothing wrong with that syntax and the string appears to be terminated correctly. If there is a different statement causing the error, please post the entire line and include a line above and below.

Can i use session variable VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.USER) in write back report?

Hi All,
I have created a write back report and successfully inserted records into a table.
Now i want to capture the user who has inserted in to the table.
Till now i have given edit option to the users on USERNAME column.
But now i want to capture the user automatically.
when i user VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.USER), i can capture the Logged in user in USERNAME col and the moment i execute the report it is throwing an error.
What i observed is....
In the advanced tab USERNAME col is changed to VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.USER).
is there any workaround for this?

assign the Record ID to the session variable.
Place the Record id in the repeat region.
Then you could assign that record id to a session variable
when the button is click, capture the button click event. Then
redirect to the EMPLOYEEMessageDELETE1.asp page, which will read in
the session variable (record id) to be deleted.

Creating a session variable with PHP

Can anyone offer me a PHP script that creates a session
variable? The Dreamweaver CS3 Help documentation offers coding
samples for ColdFusion and ASP but not for PHP. I tried this
without success:
"$_SESSION['usermail']= $_POST['sub_email'];" in which I am
trying to capture an email address from a form and save it to use
in a confirmation email to a new subscriber. Any help would be
sincerely appreciated.

at the top of the page, and then this within the code block
where you are
processing the form's data -
$_SESSION['usermail']= $_POST['sub_email'];

Setting & Retrieving Session Variables

Hi,
I’m new at session variables and having trouble
understanding the basics.
I have a form with two dropdowns. I want to store the
selections from both in session variables. Then pass those to
another page where I want to display the selected values in my
headline such as “You searched for [value1] and [value2]." I
can’t get this to work right. I’ve gone through DW Help
and tutorials and still can’t figure it out.
Any help would be much appreciated.

On your form action page, put this in:
<%
Session("varOne") = Request.Form("dropdown1")
Session("varTwo") = Request.Form("dropdown2")
%>
To write the sessions to the page, put this:
You searched for <%=varOne%> and <%=varTwo%>.
