Reading Books on Color Ipod

I take a big reference book to work with me everyday. It would be cool if I could somehow download and organize by chapter the text in the book to my ipod. Does anyone know if this can be done?

You mean you want to put the contents of a physical book onto iPod? If so, you will need to scan the text with one of those fancy pen reader things, and then save each chapter as a .txt file. Then add these files one by one to the iPod notes folder. Or manually type up all those words. Is there no eBook on the web?
Hey, maybe the new iPods will come with an attachment which inhales a book, and then reads it to us through some headphones.

  • HT4059 I can no longer read books using ibooks, i have the second gen ipod touch

what other app can i use to read books other than ibooks this app is no longer compatible with my ipod

So if you spent money on one of these two devices, its just a poke in the eye? No solution to simply wanting to read books you paid for? Is it being suggested that old ipods can't handle books?  There's no possible way to make them compatible?  Is Apple's solution "just buy the newer one" like everyone just has that kind of disposable income.
EDIT: my mother has this issue, and she asked me "What is the solution to problems like this?" and I replied, "Android"

  • HT4059 I have a 2nd generation ipod touch that I am trying to download ibooks onto.  It is version 4.2.1.  The app says it requires 5.0.   Is there an older version I can put on the ipod so I can read books?  And same with the kindle app.

How can I get the ibooks onto a 2nd generation ipod touch since it requires 5.0 and the version on the ipod is only 4.2.1?   Surely, I should be able to read books on the 2nd generation ipod, right?

    "Really?  "
    Yes.
"Is there any other way to access books on the ipod 2nd generation? "
    No ibooks.
You can try a kindle reader.

  • Can you read books on Mac laptop that were purchased on iPod touch?

I bought a few books through ibooks on my Ipod touch, but there are some forms that I want to print and recipes that I would like to see in the bigger screen of my laptop, but although they show as purchased on my laptop I cannot open them to read them.

If you wish to read books on your Mac, get the Kindle App for Mac, and purchase books from the Amazon Kindle Store.
In contrast to the restrictive iBook format, Kindle books can be read on Mac, iOS devices, and many other platforms.

How do you read a book on your iPod touch 4th generation??? Help please!!!!

iBooks, Kindle for iOS, Nook for iOS, several other options. If you'll be more explicit about what it is you're asking or trying to accomplish, we can probably provide more specific advice. Referring to this other post from you:

See same topic (almost) next to this one. You need Acrobat Reader and the iPod is not equipped at this time to run that application.

  • How to Play Overdrive Media Books on an iPod Shuffle 4th Gen

    Hi,
Many libraries use Overdrive Media to manage audio books in various formats.  Once you have downloaded the book to the Overdrive Media Console on your computer, you can then choose to transfer it to a device (such as an iPod or other mp3 player).  When transferring WMA files with an iPod shuffle 4th Gen (I'm not sure about other gens) this creates a number of files with bizzare titles.  When you go to the book section on the iPod it will play the first section and then it will just continually loop and you never go on to the next section.  After working with this for a while I've figured out how to make this work.  This is not what I consider a satisfactory solution but more of a work-around.  I hope that Apple will produce a fix that will remedy this situation as a lot of people download audio books from the library.
    1.  When you transfer WMA audiobook content to your iPod, Overdrive Media does it via iTunes.  I believe it usese iTunes to perform a file conversion.  Once the conversion is complete, it transfers the converted file to your shuffle.  If you watch this occur, you will notice that while it is converting the file, it assigns it a strange number like 10347.  As each part of the book is transferred, write down its number.  You have to catch it during the conversion as once the part is converted it reverts to its title (something like "Where the Red Fern Grows Part 01").  But that title is never transferred to the iPod.  It retains the strange number.
    2.  You will notice that as each file is converted, the number goes up.  So as you write them down, they will look like 10347, 11671, 12003, 12865... etc.  I have no idea what these numbers mean but they become your section titles on the audio when the Voiceover button is pressed.  One other thing, sometimes the numbers restart like so:  18567, 19325, 345, 907... Again, not sure why but you must keep the order they were converted and transferred as this is the order in which you'll want to play them back.
    3.  Now you will have a list of numbers indicating the different parts of the book.  Turn on your iPod and use the Skip Forward button to until you hear the book start.  Listen to the fist section until you hear it start to repeat.  There will be no pause or anything so sometimes it is hard to pick up where the part ended.  Once the part has ended, hold the Voiceover button and listen to the strange number.  Next press the Skip Back button and listen to the other strange numbers which will be in order, last-to-first.  When you get to the number indicating the next part, press the Play button and you will now be on the next part.
NOTE: if you press the play button on the wrong part (strange number), it will shuffle that part to the end of the playlist.  But if you have the part numbers written down in order this won't be a problem.  Also, if you hit the forward skip or backwards skip while playing a part, it will skip to some place in that part.  You can get back to your original spot by skipping again a few times more in the same direction.
    EXAMPLE:
Let's say you are transferring a 4 part book to the iPod.  During this transfer you note the strange numbers during conversion like so:
    Part 1 = 11278
    Part 2 = 11942
    Part 3 = 12512
    Part 4 = 13398
Now your book is on the Shuffle.  Turn on the Shuffle and listen for the start of the book.  If it is playing something else like music or a podcast, press the Skip Forward button until you hear the audiobook begin.  This is usually accompanied by music and has the title of the book, etc.  At this point you can press and hold the Voiceover button and you will hear "11278" pronounced.  Release the Voiceover button and let this part of the book play to the end.
You will then at some point hear that part of the book start over.  Press and hold the Voiceover button and start using the Skip Back button.  You will hear in this order: "11278, 13398, 12512, 11942".  When you hear "11942" press the Play button and Part 2 of the book will begin.  Continue this process for each part until you reach the end of the book.
I've listened to several books using this method and it has worked fine.  It is sort of fiddly and you have to do some things that I think iTunes or the Shuffle should do but until Apple does something about this, it is the only way that it will work that I've been able to find.

It sounds like the Windows Media security update in Para x, below, may not have been done and your music setting may have been on Repeat.  As a review, here is a list of steps that may help clear the problems up.
Many libraries worldwide now use Overdrive Media Console, which comes in Mac an Windows versions http://www.overdrive.com/Software/omc .  Some find the mobile device transfer process confusing.  To load or delete a WMA or MP3 (Macs can only download MP3 books) audiobook onto an Apple mobile device see the "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" video in the guides at Step 7, then do the following.
    1. For Windows versions, you must first do a security update of Windows Media Player (even though you won't be using it) using Internet Explorer at http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite .
    2.  Open iTunes, plug the mobile device into the computer USB port and open the Overdrive Media Console.
    3. Highlight the mobile device in the left hand menu of iTunes and insure the "Manually manage music and videos" box is checked in the Summary Tab. If the mobile device storage is full, transfering will delete that portion of music necessary for the ebook.
    4. Highlight the book you want to transfer in the Overdrive Media Console and click the Transfer Button.   A window opens permitting you to click the boxes for parts of the book you wish to transfer.
    5. After the book has been transfered, when you click the disclosure triangle (arrow) to the left of the iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes, MP3 books will show up under the Music subsection and WMA books will show up in the Books subsection.  Once the mobile device is disconnected from iTunes, MP3 books will show up in the Songs list of the mobile device and WMA books will show up in the Books list.
    6. To remove a book from a mobile device plug the device into the USB port and open iTunes. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes so that you can see the device’s subcontents. For an MP3 book select the Music subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.  For a WMA book, select the Book subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.
    7. The Overdrive Media Console Guided Tour (videos) is at http://www.overdrive.com/Solutions/Libraries/tour/MenuWelcome.html .  The "Portable Devices" and "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" videos are there.
    8. To find a nearby library for ebooks search http://search.overdrive.com .  You can download the software, search for books and see tutorials without an account at the website of any library that uses Overdrive, however, you need a library card to download books.  At this library site, for example, the software and guided tour are at the bottom of the left hand menu.

  • HT1386 I can no longer sync my books to my iPod touch.

Okay someone help me out, PLEASE!
My daughter and I bought new e-books and wanted to put them on our iPods to read with iBooks. First I tried with my daughter's. I added her books to her iTunes account. Her settings are set to sync all books, rather than selected books. I clicked "apply" then clicked "sync". Then I got an error message saying it could not add the 4 files (the four new books) because they could not be found. I double-checked and they were still showing up in her iTunes library where I'd put them but kept saying they could not be found when I went to sync. I also kept getting the message "cannot connect to iTunes store" which was odd but my daughter's had lots of issues with her iTunes before so before I pulled out anymore of my hair I decided to switch over to my account and put my new books on my iPod.
Umm yeah that wasn't happening either. I have mine set up to only sync selected items. I added all my new books into my iTunes. I opened up my iPod settings and went into the book section, found the new books I wanted to add, checked them all and clicked "apply" then "sync". I never got an error message, however I also didn't see the little writing during the sync that would say "adding [book title]" either. So I checked my iBooks account and sure enough they aren't in there. I tried several dozen more times, I even tried switching my settings to sync ALL the books in my iTunes and it would not add any new books at all. And before it's suggested YES, I had the room/space on my iPod for the files (same with my daughter).
This happend to me once before and I got totally frustrated and annoyed and ended up deleting every single book out of my iTunes, as well as deleting my iBooks app altogether. Then I readded iBooks and re-added a few books at a time to my iTunes account and synced and it worked fine. The next time I had a few books to add I held my breath sure it wouldn't work but it did. And the next few times was fine. Then today this happened again! I really don't want to have to take all my books off again (as I'm in the middle of reading one) and delete the app, etc. so I really hope someone can suggest something else. I'm about to just say screw it and sell my iPod and get a kindle or a kobo or something.

Well, I can see a potential problem with that, although you must have made it work before.
I had a set up on a Windows computer like that, but the iTunes accounts couldn't communicate or share content.  We consolidated, after much fuss, to one Library, one location.
This may be why your daughter has problems connecting to the iTunes store.  The "server" is serving 2 accounts.
I am sure it is why the books didn't sync and can't be found on her iTunes account.  If you look on her iTunes on the computer, are the book titles pale gray?  is there an ! point on them?   This means that while the computer knows they were there, they can't connect with the actual content.   After all they can't be in two places at once.   iTunes can sometimes offer to "rebuild the path" to lost files, I don't know it that would work here.
As for why they come and go from your device, I can only guess it is because they are not iTunes purchases.  Just like my PDFs, iTunes tolerates them, but really doesn't know what they are, or what to do with them, so it does nothing. (unless you make it!)  Not that iTunes treated the iBooks I did get from iTunes any better.
As I posted above, the only way I could get it to work was to delete stuff, which seemed to shock iBooks into syncing the books and PDFs.  Maybe, finish the book you are reading, delete all then add new books?  (Sorry,it's all I got)
If you are going to share content, one iTunes Library, but separate Apple IDs would work better.  But that is up to you (I'm also a parent, I get it)  I share with my 2 sons.
You mentioned a Kindle.  I have one.  Never use it, but it is an older one.  The paperwhite seems like a good idea.  It is absolutely impossible to transfer PDFs to the kindle in a print size big enough to read unless it's
24 pt type going in.  Didn't work for me, might work for you.

  • After using Overdrive Media Console for Mac to listen to book on my iPod, my iPod won't work!

The book went on my iPod and played fine. BUT after trying to update my podcasts and put on more books (from Audible.com) I found that NOTHING would go back on my IPod. I reformatted it, and now I have my music, but only some of my books, and NONE of my podcasts. I then deleted the program (and the book) and reformatted AGAIN. Now I have a bit more of my previous stuff, but it still won't let me add all my books (says the iPod is read only, not write, even tho I have changed the settings) and I can't get ANY podcasts back on it. The message says "iPod is already in use."
I have unchecked the manage updates manually, and the box for using it as a storage device. This has been a NIGHTMARE. I have used an iPod for years--and have three different ones, and none of them will play right since the program messed with my iTunes. I have asked the librarians and no one seems to be familiar with the Mac version. They are all looking at me like I have never used an iPod or a computer and just am not understanding how to upload books. I have deleted the program, and the books, as I said, but maybe there is something still remaining? I have used epub books on my touch with no problem, but the audio/MP3 book on my iPod classic is what has created this problem. UGH!! NEVER AGAIN!!
    Any ideas?? PLEASE??

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Can I sync my audio books from my iPod touch onto iTunes on my computer using only my computer?? My iPod is MIA, could have been stolen.

I'm trying to determine whether or not I can import audio books from my iPod to my computer using only my computer. I purchased said audio books through the same iTunes account on my iPod that I have on my computer. I can't sync manually from my iPod because I haven't been able to locate it in weeks!! Is it possible to use only my laptop?

The music sync is one way only - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • No color on my new COLOR ipod

Why is there no color on my new color ipod?? The screen is EXACTLY like the old version.

Both Dave W. and Redmoskito are right. The Best Buy salesman gave me a non-color ipod, but they exchanged it right away (but it was thirty dollars more expensive). Thanks for everyone's feedback!

  • I read stories on my iPod, I can get text on there ok, no quotations? why?

I want to read stories on my iPod, so when I put them on there they take out all the quotations, so sometimes it's difficult to tell when people are speaking or not. Can anybody help me? Sometimes it works when I was using
    http://www.ambience.sk/ipod-ebook-creator/ipod-book-notes-text-conversion.php
that, but then sometimes it wouldn't! Like today I tried clicking 'convert diacritical marks' and there were no quotations, so the next time I didn't click it and there were still no quotations!
    Please help!

Depends on who you ask. This one

says it won't. Decide for yourself.
Basically, you can't read DRM-protected iBooks on the MBP at this point. But you may do something with the free ones. Look to the right of your OP; under "More Like This" there are several threads on the topic, with various possible solutions, eg, Calibre.

Enable disk use for the iPod, and then open the Users folder on your hard disk and drag your home folder to the iPod. You can back up other applications and documents you've placed on the hard disk in the same way; this method cannot be used to back up a Mac OS X installation.

  • Audible Book display on Ipod Touch

Is there any way possible to make audio books from Audible.com display the same as the audio books that I have ripped from CD on my ipod touch?
Under audio books on my ipod, it shows the audible folder, and all of my other books. Each book is listed only once regardless of how many files there are for each book. It tells me how many "episodes" there are for each book.
In the Audible folder, all I have is a list of files.
Is there any way to change the way these books are displayed?
    Thanks in advance.
    Doug

    Hi!
I noticed the same thing on my 2G. I think it may have something to do with the files having a tag of "Audible File" as the type or kind instead of audiobook. The audible files are automatically placed inside the audiobook folder of iTunes. Any audiobooks transfered from CD and imported into iTunes as mp3, for me end up in the music folder and I have to change the type or kind to Audiobook in order to get them in the iTunes Audiobook folder. When I drag and drop them to the Touch, they show in the audible folder with a file for each part. I have not found a way to change this on the Touch, but maybe if the type or kind is changed to audiobook, then they will show up correct.
