Reading files created for reading on the Palm platform

I have a substantial amount of content on a Palm expansion card (Treo 600). I want to be able to read this material on an iPhone. Can this be done and how?

I asked a writer of similar software (http://www.lionscribe.com/default.htm) a question about these Palm files. He said these files are stand-alone Palm applications, and they won't work in any other device.
I don't want to give up this reference material, much of which is in Hebrew (see http://www.jewishcontent.org/#palm). And I would like to use it on a new iPhone.

  • Files created in VFS by the user have read only permissions

    Hello,
I am currently packaging an application : let's call it 'myapp'. This application is installed in c:\Program Files\myapp (quite classical).
To run properly, the application needs to have Write Access to c:\Program Files\myapp.
I am packaging the application with the APPV5 Sequencer SP3 and I checked the option "Allow virtual applications full write permissions to the virtual file system".
When running the application with APPV5 Client SP3, I see files been created in "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\AppV\Client\VFS\<packageid>\ProgramFilesX64\myapp" and so everything seems to work correctly. The permissions on those
files are set to Full Control for the user who has launched the application.
What I also did is creating 'RunVirtual' registry key in order to run Microsoft Word in the Virtualized Environment of 'myapp' and this works fine also : when I launch WORD, I can save a document in "C:\Program Files\myapp" and this document appears
    in "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\AppV\Client\VFS\<packageid>\ProgramFilesX64\myapp".
The strange thing is that the permissions on this DOC file are not the same as the ones set on the other files in the same folder : in fact, the DOC file permissions are set to "Everyone, Read - Read and Execute" (with also permissions the Trusted
Installer, Administrators, etc...). So actually, the user who saved the files can never modify it after. This should not be important because it is not a usual location to save Word document but actually, the application itself launches automatically Word
to perform some document automation tasks and save temporary files in this location. So when this file has been created once, it cannot never be reused or deleted. This is causing troubles for the application.
Any idea to force the Full Control permissions on these files ?
    Thanks in advance
    Olivier

Interesting, I can say I've never seen that, likely due to the fact like you say yourself, it would be unusual to save something to that directory, also most applications these days no longer write to directories other than in C:\ProgramData or in the users
    own profile.
I'm honestly not sure of a good way to force that in this situation, unless, perhaps you have a UEM soluion like AppSense. You could have a Powershell script run through the package store and check permissions on the files and then set the persmissions according
to the way you want using something like iCacls, SecEdit, SetACL or maybe using Get-ACL and Set-ACL in Powershell...there's a few different methods for doing this, you could pick the one that suits you best.
If you don't have a UEM solution capable of this, maybe you could use some scripting in your App-V package itself, either on launch or perhaps process exit, you could run a script to do this. It may be better on process exit as it may slow launch times...but
it's also better for a script which may take quite a while to process like this to be run outside of any launch or exit, to be honest

  • Trace file created for the wrong session

    DB version : 10.2.0.3.0
    OS version: Solaris 5.10
    2 node RAC
Using DBMS_MONITOR.SESSION_TRACE_ENABLE, I have been trying to trace an oracle session spawned by a C++ application.
So, i determined which instance this session is connected by querying gv$session. I logged in as SYS in that instance's Node and then issued
execute dbms_monitor.session_trace_enable(4371,98124, true, false); After enabling, i saw new A trace file being generated. But this trace is actually tracing SYS's session which executed dbms_monitor.session_trace_enable and not the session (4371,98124) !!! I tested few basic queries in SYS's session like
select sysdate from dualAnd i can see all these queries appearing in the trace file. What could be the cause of this issue?
    I have noticed that
SHARED_SERVERS = 1 on both nodes. Is this causing this weird issue? For tracing, If i disable SHARED_SERVERS using
    alter system set SHARED_SERVERS = 0
will it cause any connection problems for the client applications because of their tnsnames.ora file setting?

So, how do i enable tracing for sessions spawned by Java or C++ applications.
According to the documentation, i can use DBMS_MONITOR for tracing applications
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/sqltrace.htm
Your 2 node RAC has two instances (e.g. INST1 and INST2). My understanding of that is that with the above command, to be able to trace session 123 connected to INST1, your SYS need to be connected to INST1. To be able to trace session 456 connected to INST2, your SYS need to be connected to INST2.

  • Different EAR file size for 2 exactly the same set of source codes

    Hi All,
I have 2 exactly the same sets of source codes for my application that were compiled in 2 different environment (say SIT and UAT; both using the same jdk versions), is it possible that the EAR files after build will be different in size too?
Can you suggest any online reading materials that I can read regarding this?
    Thank you very much
    Eddie

    Hi Arun,
    Thanks for the answer.
I already did a comparison of the 2 application, they are exactly the same (i only copied the source including the jars from PROD to UAT). I also did a comparison between the 2 EAR files generated (exploded the EAR file and compare each of the files), they are the same. My aim actually is to compile the application in Machine1 and deploy it in Machine2, I am just puzzled why the 2 EAR files generated by the 2 machines are different in size. Does it has something to do with the compression and compiling?
    Thanks,

  • How to load a large image for display on the Palm PDA

    Hello:
I have a large image I would like to display on LV for Palm PDA. The documentation states there should be a 64K chunk limitation for VIs to compile on the Palm. Therefore, I decided to break this image up into 2D arrays of less than 64K per subVI. My 3.2 Meg image therefore has about 224 2D array subVIs. My motivation is to somehow use the build array function (with concatenate inputs) to reconstruct the image at runtime. I can compile each 2D array subVI as a test, but my attempt to reassemble and compile is futile. When I try to use the build array with only 8 of these subVIs in a top level VI the compiler complains its still too big of a VI. Using get info, memory for this top level states total ~2
    3K of memory usage.
So can someone help me with this problem. Is there another way to load this size of an image into memory so I can display it on a picture control?
BTW, this can build on LV for PocketPC.
    Thank you
    Robert

    Hi Robert,
You are correct in that one of the limitations of the Palm OS is that files cannot be larger than 64 KB in size (as stated on page 5-3 of the LabVIEW PDA Module User Manual). The suggested workaround is indeed to have a top-level PDA VI that calls subVIs, and this top-level VI can then have a total file size larger than 64 KB.
My suspicion is that with the picture control on the Palm OS, even if you are breaking up the image into smaller subVIs, the process of building the array to reassemble the picture is still forcing the Palm to allocate memory for each of those 2D array subVIs to place on the top-level VI's picture control
and thus causing the Palm to complain about not having enough memory. The LabVIEW PDA User Manual also states that "There is a total limit of 64 KB on all front panel array data". Thus, when you are trying to use the build array on the top-level VI, the 64 KB limit on front panel array data is still being exceeded -- even with only 8 of these subVIs.
The following KnowledgeBase article KB 38EJRHFQ: How Do I Put a Picture or Image on My LabVIEW PDA for Palm Front Panel? states that as a workaround, you can shrink the size of your image by using 4-bit or 1-bit data instead of the standard 8-bit pixmap representation.
This is really just a limitation of the Palm OS and the fact that there is simply no way of displaying that much front panel information for your picture. Either way, you would need to build up the array of pixels for your bitmap, and for a 3.2 MB image, I don
't believe there is any way for the Palm OS PDA to display the image in its entire at once.
    Sorry about that...

  • Hidden dot files created for each picture

It appears that Photoshop on an osx machine is also creating a ._PicturesName.jpg file for each jpg in the same folder as the jpg.  Is that a photoshop or osx thing?  is there a way to prevent all those extra files from being created?
We put the folders of jpg's on the windows server, then have to go through and manually kill all those ._files before we can use the folder.

It's OSX' icon thumbnails. You can turn this off in your Finder settings (/and also hide those system files).

I have updated Aperture with RAW camera update 4.0.7.

Wow, you got yourself a great camera!
The list of supported raw formats is here:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
I see DSC-RX100***   on that list, but not yet rx100 Mark 2; I am afraid you will have to wait a bit for the raw support.
You may want want to shoot raw+jpeg, while you are waiting, and work with the jpegs for the time being. You can import the raw later, when the raw support will be available, or use the software that came with the camera, while you are waiting.

  • Are there any workarounds for multiple PDF files created for a single Word 2011 document?

    I am running...
    Mac OS X Version 10.6.8
    Word for Mac 2011
    Adobe Acrobat X Version 10.1.0
I am working with 100 plus page Word documents that go back and forth between portrait and landscape layouts. When I attempt to create an Acrobat PDF document (or one using the native Mac PDF function), I end up with 10 to 15 separate PDF documents. One person suggested that I simple stitch them together, which is an inordinate amount of work as compared to how simple it is do on my PC with older versions of Acrobat and Word. However, I have noticed that the margins are way off and the pagination is off sometimes too. So even this workaround is not the answer. I last talked to Microsoft, Apple, and Acrobat tech support about five weeks ago. Each blaming the other two but saying they were working together to solve the problem. My recent searches of forums has not revealed any solutions nor have updates changed anything.
As I am anticipating the day when my old PC stops working, I am searching for a possible workaround or other solution for this problem.

    Thanks for your reply.
The tip-off may be this.  In Word 2007 on my pc when I print the document to a printer, Word generates 1 print file for the entire document. If I print to PDF, one print file is generated by Word and Acrobat creates a PDF from this file.
What I just discovered by accident was that when Word for Mac 2011 prints the same Word document to a printer it creates about 10 different print files.  So instead of a 100 page PDF document I end up with 10 PDF documents of 1 to 30 pages depending where the page orientation shifts in the Word document. If you print to a printer that is not turned on, you can see all of the files stacked up in the printer queue. I suspect that Word for Mac 2011 generates 10 different print files during the PDF creation process and therefore Acrobat logically creates 10 different PDFs.  Unfortunately, there are margin errors and other layout errors in these 10 different PDFs so stitching them together is useless.
I am beginning to think that the way Word for Mac 2011 prints documents is simply incompatabile to Acrobat or the PDF creator that is native to the Mac OS.
I just think that this is a problem that Microsoft is going to have to fix.

The TimesTen daemon message logs are located in the daemon home directory which by default is <tt_install_dir>/info but can be changed to another location at install time.
A datastore's transaction log files are located by default in the same diredctory as the checkpoint files (specified by the DSN attribute Datastore) but can be placed eslewhere using the DSN attribute LogDir.
Again, this is all covered in the documentation. With all due respect, this forum is not intended to be a substitute for reading the comprehensive and well written documentation.

    Hi,
    >>>>We have to send the original xml-payload and the generated (over XSL-FO) pdf-file as attachments in one mail.
Could this be realized with this solution?
then don't set it as constant
use getContextData method to get the xsl filename
    from one of the folders:
    moduleContext.getContextData("dirName");
then you only have to add <b>dirName </b> parameter
in the mail adapter configuration (modules tab)
and specify the path to your xsl over there
this way you're adapter module will be reusable
and you'll have both XML-payload and the XSL
(so you'll be able to generate PDF)
