Reading Illustrator files without Illustrator installed (Mac)

Hey Guys,
    My company has a problem, we recently aquired all of the artwork ever done for us, but many of the files were not saved with "PDF Compatiability" or what not, so they can not be previewed without Illistrator. Is there any software that can be used to view these files for cheaper than $500? We just want to see them to be able to name and archive them. If not, anyone know of a cheap place to pick up an older version? We only have one mac, its a G4 so CS5 wont work (I think, from what I have read it only works on intels). Any help would be greatly apreciated!

That only works if the Illustrator file was saved with PDF content, otherwise you get this message:
This is an Adobe® Illustrator® File that was
saved without PDF Content.
To Place or open this le in other
applications, it should be re-saved from
Adobe Illustrator with the "Create PDF
Compatible File" option turned on. This
option is in the Illustrator Native Format
Options dialog box, which appears when
saving an Adobe Illustrator le using the
Save As command.

  • How to make a image file from Pre installed Mac osx ? "PLEASE HELP :("?

    hey guys ..Thanks u for the time.
    So i have this eMac which has crashed and i have got may hands on another eMac.. and it works
    ... the only problem is.. I can take my eMac to the working eMac to do Target Mode or any thing...
    So Help me..
    My question is .. Is there a way to make a .DMG image file from pre installed mac osx OR
    Is there a way to may a recovery disc??

    You can use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy everything from the working eMac onto the non-working eMac while the working eMac is running. If your eMac will still do target mode into the working one, you can download the above software, select the booted drive as the source drive, and your eMac's drive as the target, however it is possible this will not work.
    When you say your eMac crashed, what exactly happened?  It is possible that the hard drive in your eMac failed or is failing, so in order to get it running again you would need to replace the hard drive.  On the eMac, this repair is somewhat involved, and you have to be very careful because it exposes the CRT, which has several areas which can be extremely dangerous to touch if not properly handled.  CRTs retain a great deal of voltage, even when unplugged, sometimes for weeks, and they can give you a nasty shock if you touch them in the wrong place.
    Also keep in mind that cloning from the working computer to the non-working computer will ERASE any data that you have stored on that eMac, so if you don't have it backed up anywhere, you may want to attempt that with target mode before proceeding.
    Good luck!

  • Unable to read resource files without fully qualified file names

    Hi,
    I have installed 9iAS and trying to read a few resources in the OC4J container. A few points to
    note :
    1. The <library> element in server.xml (global and
    instance specific) as well as in orion-application.xml
    can seem to only scan for jars/zips.
    2. Also we are using the Thread specific classloaders as in doc :
    http://otn.oracle.com/tech/java/oc4j/pdf/ClassLoadingInOC4J_WP.pdf
    The issue is that so long I pass the fully qualified file name for the resource, I can read the resource. However, I am not able to find a way to include the "resource directory" in the classpath of 9iAS (global) or OC4J instance and read the resource file with just the file name. So, the following code works only when the filename has the fully qualified name for the resource file (Like F:\install\some_dir\file.txt).
    ClassLoader cl = Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader();
    inStream = cl.getSystemResourceAsStream(fileName);
    Can someone provide me with some pointers to how I can include resource directories in the classpath ? Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Krishnendu

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response. Presently your solution is what we already have in place. Most of our properties are stored in a .properties file. However for all other application servers (sun one apps server, websphere, weblogic, tomcat), the classloader can read these properties without the fully qualified path but for oc4j; the code breaks.
    So, even if I change my installer to hardcode the specific property to have the fully qualified file name, I would have written some code specific to OC4J that is generic to all other containers.

    Thanks in advance.You cannot open the oracle dumpfile . Though you can see it bu simply using the import utility .(actually data is not imported it show the sql only .)
    In datapump , use parameter sqlfile=abc.sql
    e.g; impdp scott/tiger@orcl directorory=dpump sqlfile-abc.sql dumpfile=xyz.dmp and logfile=xyz_log.log full=y
    in case of original import use the parameter "show"
    e.g; imp scott/tiger@orcl file=abc.dmp show=y log=abc_log.log full=y

  • Cannot read backup file from PC on Mac

    I am trying to move my Photoshop Elements 9 catalog from my PC to my Mac.
    I have backed up the catalog to an external HDD but when I connect it to the Mac I can see the folder but I cannot open it. The backup is big, over 200GB, could this be the problem? I have several other backups on the same HDD but the MAC cannot read any of them.
    I can open the folders without any problem on a PC.
    I took the HDD to a Mac "Genius Bar" and they could not open the folders on their Mac either and had no idea what could be causing the problem.
    I had no problem migrating to the Mac about a year ago when I first got it, but I suppose the backup would have been smaller then.
    Has anybody got any idea what the problem could be

    In the Backup folder, there is a Backup.tly file which needs to be specifically seleted while restoring the backup. So while you go for File >Restore catalog > try to choose All files from the format dropdown to see this tly file.

  • Read a file without loading it into memory

    I have a VERY large file filled with words. I want to determine if a String in my program matches one of them. Loading the entire file into memory would take a long time and would use way too much memory. Is there some way to load just the part I need each time or make the comparison directly from the file on the hard disk?

    The file is static, so your plan seems to have merit.
    I've only used sequential files before, but I'm
    assuming this would require a random access file since
    you have to begin reading at a specified offset. Am I
    correct?Yes.
    In addition, if this file is fixed-length "records" so that you could programmatically determine the word offsets without having to keep a map of indexes in memory, you could just employ a search algorithm (I forget what this one is called) - you could start by defining 2 endpoints, initially at offset 0 and the offset of the last word.
    Iteratively read the word halfway between the 2 endpoints, adjusting the endpoints until a match is found or the endpoints converge.

  • Reading text files without specifying the encoding?

    I have looked everywhere for a solution, but I can't find one. The problem is that I'm using codes that everybody is using, but for some reason, my codes aren't working.
    I want to be able to open up text files in Java without having to specify the encoding for the files that I'm going read, because I have no idea which encoding they will use.
    But even when specifying UTF-8 to be encoding of the file to read, it doesn't work correctly:
    FileInputStream fileIS= new FileInputStream("somefile.txt");
    Reader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(fileIS, Charset.forName("UTF-8")));
    EVERYWHERE I look, ppl are using these codes! But it doesn't work, some characters (such as the Euro sign) are displayed as squares.
    However, I want to be able to read not only UTF-8 files but anything that Java supports. Any ideas?

    This is your problem. If you don't know what encoding the text is stored in, then the chances that the default encoding used to read it will be correct are slim.
    But even when specifying UTF-8 to be encoding of the file to read, it doesn't work correctly:There are many different character encodings, and most of them don't overlap. Anything above 127 usually causes problems.

Assuming that using UTF-8 should work for all encodings is like assuming that someone who can read Chinese should be able to read a book written in Spanish or Greek. It doesn't work that way.
    However, I want to be able to read not only UTF-8 files but anything that Java supports. Any ideas?You need to know what encoding your files are stored in, period. There are a few ways to guess what the encoding is, but they're only reliable for a small set of encodings.

  • Need to read source file without deleting it - Sender SFTP adapter

    Dear friends,
    The data from the source file needs to be read by PI on a daily basis. The file should not be deleted.
    Vendor  updates the file on a daily basis with file name DataFeed.xml
    How to acheive this in Sender SFTP adapter ?
    Kindly guide me
    Renu

    Hi Renu,
    Unfortunately as of latest release of SFTP adapter. Arching is not possible :(. really dont know why :).
    as a work around what you can do is  create a scenario as 1 sender and 2 reicever.
    here: 1 sender: will be the sender fileadapter which will pick the file from souce.
             1st receiver: will be a receiver file channel which will palce back the file in the source Archive folder.
             2ed Receiver: this will be the actual receiver to which the data has to be given.
    Or write a Module in Sender adapter which will archive the files in new location.
    Note: Here i am assuming that each time the source creates a new file with same name which contains new data in it everytime.

  • Need to read source file without deleting it!

    Hi,
    I have a scenario where
         1.  I need to pick the latest file from source folder without deleting it.
         2. I need to post the data in to EP's KM. (how can I communicate with EP)
    So can any put some light as how to achieve this.
    Regards,

    Ideally, Source application should not modify same file. It should create new file so that you can archive old file.
    Are you using FTP/NFS? FCC???
    Have you tried option "Msecs to Wait Before Modification Check"?
    I m not sure if its useful for you, but just check if it works.

  • Read from file without space at the end

    i want to read some data from a simple text file. when there is a space after the number in the, that number is read successfully. but when there is no space after that number, the code fails. it seems that sun fortran compiler can not read the number when there is the new line sign exactly after the number.
    is there any compiler switch of an option in read or open statement to overcome this problem?
    i checed the code with other compilers (gfortran and intel fortran compiler) and they work fine.
    Regards

    I have not been able to reproduce the problem you describe.
    Could you provide a small program and a data file that
    demonstrates the problem? Also, please let me know which
    version of the compiler you are using. You can find which

  • Trouble installing Mac drivers on Windows Vista

    I've just installed Windows Vista on my intel-based IMac. I'm at the final part where I'm supposed to install the Mac drivers on Vista by ejecting the Windows installation disk and inserting the Mac OS X installation disk. According to the Boot Camp Setup Assistant instructions, it should either auto-run on Vista or the 'setup.exe' application should be visible to click on. However, after inserting the Max OS X installation disk on Vista, the computer doesn't detect anything on the disk! It's as if it's empty but the 'properties' option shows that the installation disk is full! How should I resolve this problem? Can Vista actually read the files present in the Mac OS X installation disk in the first place?

  • How to replace or remove last 500 bytes of a file without rewriting all the file?

    Hi everyone,
    Usually I only ask for help when I can't find a solution for several days or weeks... And guess what? That just happen!
    So, this is what i am trying to do:
    I have a program to ZIP folder and protect them with password, then it encrypts the zip file.
    That it's working fine, until the user forgets his password.
    So, what I want to do is give the user a Recovery Password option for each ZIP file created. I can't use the Windows Registry because the idea is to be able to recover the password in any computer.So i came up with an idea...
    In simple terms, this will work like this:
    0 - Choose folder to ZIP
    1 - Ask user for recover details (date of birth, email etc)
    2 - ZIP folder with password
    3 - Encrypt ZIP file
    4 - Encrypt recover details and convert it to HEX
    5 - Add recover details (in HEX) to the end of the ZIP file (last bytes)
    6 - Add "5265636F76657244657461696C73" which is the text "RecoverDetails" in HEX
    7 - Add "504B0506000000000000000000000000000000000000" this is the final bytes of a ZIP file and will make the Operating System think that is a ZIP file (i know that will give an error when we try to open it.. the ideia is to change the
    extension later and use my software to do all the work to access this ZIP/folder again)
    So, explaining what it's here, I want to say that I managed how to do all of this so far. The point number 6 will help us to determine where the recover details are in the file, or if they actually exist because user can choose not to use them.
    In order to unlock this ZIP and extract it's contents, I need to reverse what I've done. That means, that  need to read only the last 500 bytes (or less if the file is smaller) of the ZIP and remove those extra bytes I added so the program can check
    if the user is inputing a correct password, and if so decrypt contents and extract them.
    But, if the user insert a wrong password I need to re-add those bytes with the recover details again to the ZIP file.
    The second thing is, if the user forgets his password and asks to recover it, a form will be shown asking to insert the recover detail (date of birth, email etc), so we need to reed the last 500 bytes of the ZIP, find the bytes in number 6 and remove the
    bytes before number 6, remove bytes in number 6 and number 7, and we will have the recover details to match against the user details input.
    I have all done so far with the locking process. But i need help with the unlocking.
    I am not sure if it's possible, but this what i am looking for:
    Read last 500 bytes of a file, remove the bytes with recover details and save the file. Without reading the whole file, because if we have a 1GB file that will take a very long time. Also, i don't want to "waste" hard drive space creating a new
    clone file with 1GB and then delete the original.
    And then add them back "in case user fails the password" which should be exactly the same.
    This sounds a bit confusing I know, even to me, I am writing and trying to explain this the better I can.. Also my English is not the best..
    Here it goes some code to better understanding:
    'READ LAST 500 BYTES OF ZIP FILE TO CHECK IF IT CONTAINS RECOVER DETAILS
    Dim oFileStream As New FileStream(TextBox_ZIP_to_Protect.Text & ".zip", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)
    Dim oBinaryReader As New BinaryReader(oFileStream)
    Dim lBytes As Long = oFileStream.Length
    oBinaryReader.BaseStream.Position = lBytes - 500
    Dim fileData As Byte() = oBinaryReader.ReadBytes(500)
    oBinaryReader.Close()
    oFileStream.Close()
    Dim txtTemp As New System.Text.StringBuilder()
    For Each myByte As Byte In fileData
    txtTemp.Append(myByte.ToString("X2"))
    Next
    Dim RecoveryDetailsPass_Holder = txtTemp.ToString()
    'Dim Temp_2 = txtTemp.ToString()
    'RichTextBox1.Text = txtTemp.ToString()
    If txtTemp.ToString.Contains("505245434F47414653") Then
    'we have password recovery details(the numbers mean RecoverDetails in HEX)
    'next we will get rid of everything before and after of string "cut_at"
    Dim mystr As String = RecoveryDetailsPass_Holder 'RichTextBox1.Text
    Dim cut_at As String = "505245434F47414653"
    Dim x As Integer = InStr(mystr, cut_at)
    ' Dim string_before As String = mystr.Substring(0, x - 1)
    Dim string_after As String = mystr.Substring(x + cut_at.Length - 1)
    RecoveryDetailsPass_Holder = RecoveryDetailsPass_Holder.Replace(string_after.ToString, "")
    RecoveryDetailsPass_Holder = RecoveryDetailsPass_Holder.Replace("505245434F47414653", "") ' this is RecoverDetails in HEX
    RecoveryDetailsPass_Holder = RecoveryDetailsPass_Holder.Replace("504B0506000000000000000000000000000000000000", "") ' this is the bytes of an empty zip file
    'AT THIS POINT WE HAVE ONLY THE RECOVER PASSWORD DETAILS (date of birth, email etc) IN THE VARIABLE "RecoveryDetailsPass_Holder"
    '////////////////////////////////////////////////////// TO DEBUG
    'MsgBox(string_after.ToString & "505245434F47414653")
    'InputBox("", "", string_after.ToString)
    '\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ TO DEBUG
    'Temp_2 = Temp_2.Replace(RecoveryDetailsPass_Holder.ToString, "")
    Now that we have the recover details, we need to remove them from ZIP in order to the software try to unzip it with the password provided by the user on the GUI.
    If the user needs to recover the password we have the details already in RecoveryDetailsPass_Holder variable and just need to match them against user input details.
    If the user fails, we need to put the RecoveryDetailsPass_Holder back on the file.
    Any question just ask, it's a bit trick to explain i think, but please ask.
    Anyone know how to do this?
    Many thanks in advanced.
    Nothing is impossible!

    @ ALL
    Thank you very much for you help. I know that if I'm "playing" with bytes you should assume that I know a lot of VB.net, but I don't know that much unfortunately. I am not a beginner but I am still very fresh and I probably do stuff that work but
    probably not in the best way...
    Anyway, I will explain the idea of this little software I'm making. Once I wanted to create a program to protect folders with password, and I came up with something to change folder permissions to lock access to them, and that actually worked fine and quickly.
    However, I managed how to "crack" the protection by going to folder properties, security tab and then give permissions back to my username. So that, to me, wasn't a safer system to protect folders, also I want the ability to use passwords. So I search
    and search online for a way to do it, and someone replied (to someone with the same question as me) that the best option would be to create a zip with all contents of the folder, with password and then change the extension from .zip to .whatever and register
    the new extension .whatever on the Windows Registry, so that file will have an icon and open with my software.
    So I did...The program zips everything, change the extension and I added the encryption to avoid people changing the extension to ZIP or trying to open with 7-Zip or similar and be able to see the protected files names in the .zip/.whatever
    Answering to all of you now:
    @Armi
    "System.IO.FileStream.SetLength"
    I know I tried that but I erased the code because it didn't work for some reason, I don't remember why sorry, was long time before I created this post.
    The last code I was trying to use was this:
    ' Set the stream position to the desired location of the stream.
    Dim fileStream As IO.FileStream = _
    New IO.FileStream(TextBox_ZIP_to_Protect.Text & ".zip", IO.FileMode.Append)
    Try
    ' Set the stream (OFFSET) position to the desired location of the stream.
    fileStream.Seek(210, IO.SeekOrigin.Current)
    Dim Bytes_do_ZE As Byte() = HexStringToByteArray(Temp_2.ToString)
    'Write Characters ASCII
    For Each Byte_Do_Zeca As Byte In Bytes_do_ZE
    fileStream.WriteByte(Byte_Do_Zeca)
    Next
    Finally
    fileStream.Close()
    End Try
    and we need this:
    Private Shared Function HexStringToByteArray(ByRef strInput As String) As Byte()
    Dim length As Integer
    Dim bOutput As Byte()
    Dim c(1) As Integer
    length = strInput.Length / 2
    ReDim bOutput(length - 1)
    For i As Integer = 0 To (length - 1)
    For j As Integer = 0 To 1
    c(j) = Asc(strInput.Chars(i * 2 + j))
    If ((c(j) >= Asc("0")) And (c(j) <= Asc("9"))) Then
    c(j) = c(j) - Asc("0")
    ElseIf ((c(j) >= Asc("A")) And (c(j) <= Asc("F"))) Then
    c(j) = c(j) - Asc("A") + &HA
    ElseIf ((c(j) >= Asc("a")) And (c(j) <= Asc("f"))) Then
    c(j) = c(j) - Asc("a") + &HA
    End If
    Next j
    bOutput(i) = (c(0) * &H10 + c(1))
    Next i
    Return (bOutput)
    End Function
    That code, as I understand, is to search for the OFFSET of the bytes in the file and start to write from there... That OFFSET should be the beginning of the 500 bytes read on the code before. I got the OFFSET position "210" reading the file with
    the HEX editor "HxD - Hexeditor v1.7.7.0" but using the OFFSET won't work because every file, password, recover details and so on, are different and so the file size, changing the OFFSET I
    think.
    @Reed Kimble
    Does that sound like something which might work for you?
    Thanks for your help. That might be some solution, however it seams a bit of the same problem where we need to read the bytes again to get the recover details. But, as I said in this post, because this is meant to password protect folders, do you think that
    will apply as well?
    @Crazypennie
    Thanks for your reply.
    All this appears really weak. The user has your application since he need it to open the file .... and the code in the application contain the code to read the file without knowing the password. Therefore anyone can read your code and retrieve the
    data without the password ... if he knows VB.
    The application can only open the file if the user didn't use a password to protect the file. Because the file is encrypted and needs to be unencrypted first.
    When the application tries to open/read the file, will need to decrypt it first and then check for a password and do the validation. Also the application is with the code masked/protected which i think it might not be easy for reverse engineering.
    - You need to use a web server and a symmetric key encryption
    This a good idea, besides I don't know how to implement it. However the idea is to be able to:
    1 - Protect a folder anywhere in any Windows computer (portable app)
    2 - Recover password details (security question) in any computer, online and offline
    And I think we need a computer always connected to the Internet to use that method, right?
    @ Mr. Monkeyboy
    Thank you very much for your effort.
    I just wanted to let you know that the zip method you are using is no longer supported.
    I didn't actually knew that. Thanks for letting me know.
    Do you require the compressed encrypted files to actually be Zip files or could they just be compressed files that have nothing to do with Zip?
    No, it doesn't need to be a .zip extension. I am actually using my own extension. It starts as a Zip but then I changed to my own extension which I have registered on the Windows Registry.
    @ ALL
    Thanks again to all for trying and spending time helping me.
    By the way, I might not be able to answer or try any code during the weekend... It's easter break and family is around. Have a nice easter everyone. :)

    i am facing this problem and try to find the solution from last month please help me
    i want to read a file which in ziped and this zip file is at ftp site. and i want to read this file without downloading this zip file to local machine. i have to read it from ftp location only

    You can open an URLConnection to a file on an FTP server (search this forum to find out how). You can get the InputStream from the URLConnection and feed it to ZipInputStream. That should do the job.
